If Agbaji averages 18+ppg this season that's huge for KU and for his pro chances.

Takeaways from Game #1 • Nov 11, 2021 04:25 PM

Agbaji trending as a 1st round pick after his career high 29 pts on Tuesday. Hopefully he continues to play like that and gets PAID

Takeaways from Game #1 • Nov 10, 2021 05:25 PM

New wrinkle from Self- Posting up Agbaji. Happened a few times last night with no success but that was new. I liked it and hope we go back to that again.

@BShark

Definitely his shot looks real nice but gave him a mulligan knowing he's hobbled.

@DCHawker

Game 1 on a neutral floor with a lot of eyes watching, I think it was a solid shooting performance this early. The 3 point % brought it down a bit overall but that will happen.

Lots of lineup possibilities with this team. Going small will likely be situationally the way to go at times. However I think we'll still see our best 5 includes 4 around Dave

@Marco

The KU 247 reporter left for another job and it hasn't been filled yet.

Couple of moves in the last day. Rylan Griffen committed to Alabama. Mark Mitchell removed KU from his list. Two things we knew but needed the final decision on.

Takeaways from Game #1 • Nov 10, 2021 10:48 AM

Once the team warmed up, got over some nerves, I thought this was a very good performance on opening night. We usually see a Self team improve as the season goes on but last night I'd say the bar is already pretty high. This was without Jalen Wilson who brings yet another dimension to this team. The firepower is there and the bench proved its going to be an asset all year.

I thought Michigan St looked like a real average team on paper and it played out that way. Hoggard was much improved getting to the lane and attacking the rim. It would be nice if this win was a boost to KU's resume later on in the season so hopefully Izzo finds a way to develop that team.

Ochai Agbaji was a man among boys last night. What impressed me the most about his game was his confidence. He plays with that kind of confidence on a nightly basis and he's an All American and getting paid in the League next season. His handles are improved, his FT preparation and shot are much cleaner, he attacked the rim a lot off the bounce (seemed like a point of emphasis for the offense), his conditioning and speed are much improved. Talk about a guy that took the offseason in a serious way. I don't think that was just a one off to impress the scouts in the stands either. That was the best opening night performance I've seen since Frank beat Duke years back.

Saw some decent defense from this group at times. Icing screens, active hands. Rebounding was so-so but we expected a drop off without Jalen Wilson. Big Dave besides one big block was pretty bad defensively overall. He looked eerily similar to last years start. Hopefully he'll pick it up as we get going. Harris was a major force on defense for much of the game. Liked how he moved the ball on offense. He had some aggressive drives that ended up in bad shots but your seeing the signs of a more confident player out there. Braun picked up his play considerably in the 2nd half after a mostly awful first half. Definitely rebounded in the trenches with some authority.

Remy Martin is a player. This offense thrives when it has a quick guard capable of beating his man off the dribble. Didn't attempt a shot in the first half but was a major factor in the 2nd. I was impressed with him when he played at ASU and I'm impressed seeing him in KU colors. What a difference maker.

Loved all 3 freshman's play. Stage wasn't too bright for any of them. KJ comes in for 4 seconds to end the first half and gets a block. Within the first 10 seconds of him playing in the 2nd half he saved a ball going out of bounds for a layup. That's how you get PT under Self. Clemence has a long ways to go on post defense (not fouling) but showed his skill level on both ends. Besides D Lawson I don't think we've had a big that can stretch the floor like he can. Two words to sum up Bobby Pettiford = Fan Favorite. Talk about a kid that looks like he's been groomed in a factory run by Frank Mason & Devonte Graham because it sure felt like I was watching a young Frank/Devonte out there.

Overall I was very impressed. Lots of firepower, lots of experience, quality depth. This is a team to reckon with. Can't wait for Friday

Michigan State Game Thread • Nov 10, 2021 02:26 AM

Loved the poise of the freshman right off the bat. Clemence had some freshman moments trying to defend but a couple of steals and that big made 3 is why it's important to get him some minutes

Bobby played with a confidence to him. Very impressed with him so far.

KJ seems like a high effort athlete that Self will have the luxury of using
