KJ needs to have a big game defensively against Hawkins. Feels like the key to the game really. We got by in Allen but it was a major problem when subbing to Storr at the 4.
Self wanted Hunt to stay after last year. They were aggressive with NIL as well, to land and keep him here.
I do agree his weaknesses are an issue on both ends.
I will be very disappointed if we lose today. Tired of losing in Manhattan to Tang and listening to their fan base. It's a cesspool. Can't afford a loss to this crap team
It sucked to lose both at the time and Zuby certainly had the long term potential that he's obviously now hit. I think he just ended up where he was valued and given the opportunity. Even now he would have been behind Hunt and KJ so in the end it was the best move for him. I don't see any scenario where Self moved on from Hunt.

Will be interesting to see how we attack the portal. Should be more concerned about fit than the sexiest name. Hope Bill has learned something after Storr.

Self chose hunt though. You are not going to recruit over kids today and have that be okay with them. Udeh was the same situation. Zuby is definitely one that got away

Yeah Peterson is dynamic with the ball. We definitely need another steady option there so I think it's something you get from the portal to pair with Elmarko and Peterson.

Here's what Bill said recently.
“Well, he’s not practicing by any stretch but he’s doing individuals and one-on-zero,” Bill Self said. “So, he’s not going to be in contact until the season’s over. But he’s making really good progress. He’ll be 100% unless he has a setback you would think by March or so.”
I'm cautiously optimistic. He had a serious knee injury so you wonder about full recovery, and then the mental side of it. He's missed a year of skill development. I did see something published that he's bulked up a bit and has taken to watching and learning from the coaches from their POV on the sidelines.
He's an on-ball guy I think. I think he can exist with another ball handler if his outside shot/playmaking improves. He had shown good touch at the FT line so it's a developing skill you hope for consistency. His midrange jumper was probably his best impact on offense. He showed glimpses of driving and finishing/ or creating opportunities for teammates but it was flashes. The size and athleticism are there to be good. Defensively, he probably has more room to grow there than anywhere else, not uncommon when playing here. The good thing is Peterson is coming and he's the most dynamic combo guard we've signed. He's going to make others look really good.
Agree but that's on coaching. They run that 2 man game with the ball screen so much that Hunt gets more of those midrange looks off the pass which he's quick to shoot if open most of the time. He's not someone who really backs down a guy and ISO scores like a Dave was. It's more finesse unless he's right near the basket and can use his size. Guy should he living at the line and fouling out bigs. In his Jr year at Michigan he shot 161 FT's, he has barely passed that mark in 1 1/2 years here.
And when KJ is not impacting the game he still plays. Baylor game being a great example. Iowa St he was very valuable due to matchup and switching. Saturday will be the same with us needing someone to cover Hawkins so I expect minimal minutes from Flory. There's got to be a happy medium somewhere. 15 mins isn't enough for Flory
