Tonight's game • Feb 19, 2025 01:38 AM

@approxinfinity

It's already heavily rumored he's checked out and will be leaving at seasons end.

Tonight's game • Feb 19, 2025 01:32 AM

Mayo starting. Self starting 3 bigs.

Bidunga starting again @approxinfinity

KJ at the 3 to start.

I got nothing to say anymore

@Crimsonorblue22

So far everyone going through warm ups. No finality to anything yet.

Tonight's game • Feb 18, 2025 09:51 PM

Stay tuned, we may have a starter out.

An already bad outlook for this game looks , well challenging if what's to be announced is true

@approxinfinity

Don't stop with Flory.

Self doesn't disciple poor play from Hunt and that's 2 years running now. Infuriating. Flory is far from perfect, we all see his weaknesses. I definitely have fatigue at this point from this situation and will refrain from saying much else at this point.

2025 Portal Madness Thread • Feb 18, 2025 05:17 PM

KU recently hosted Brown forward Nana Owusu-Anane. KU is not in a rush to try and secure a commitment from him at this time. I would be surprised if they do going forward. Doesn't hurt to get the ball rolling on that front since the 4 spot not only needs a starter but a backup going into next season (unless Tiller is going to be the guy).

Building Culture with Mercenaries • Feb 18, 2025 04:39 PM

@approxinfinity

That's what's happening in College Football currently. No player is safe.

I think its slower to hit Basketball but they should get ahead of it especially with the house settlement for NIL coming at some point. Transfer Scouting certain looks like a weakness currently.

Building Culture with Mercenaries • Feb 18, 2025 02:36 PM

@approxinfinity

Tampering is happening every day and there's no penalties currently.

What would be the plan if he decided to build through the HS ranks in terms of his future here. Next year he has a sure fire OAD and Tiller. Calderon is rumored that he might not make it to campus. You have just Elmarko, Passmore, Flory to build around from the current roster of HS kids. You can add Jamari and Zach if you want but they dont seem like players you build your next phase with. It doesn't seem like there is an emphasis on adding a bunch of HS kids for this cycle but perhaps when the spring rolls around some guys become targets. Everything is so NIL based today recruiting players isn't the same as it was even a few years ago. I do agree that building through HS prospects is probably the way to ensure you can build and sustain the culture within.

Self has clearly gone with staying old through the portal the last few years and it really hasn't worked out that well. Personally I think it's just getting the right fits. Hunter besides being 7'2 is not the kind of big Self builds his program around. Storr is another example of poor fit and those two make the most money on the team. That's where a GM or someone who can effectively manage the NIL portion while also understanding you get the right fit to play under the coach. I wonder who is handling portal scouting and who's doing the leg work to vet these players.

@drgnslayr

I hope your wrong about the end for Bill. Just don't see him walking away from a down year and bringing in Peterson. He will set the program back further if he leaves now and Peterson bolts, which would happen 100%.

I hear the other side of this argument but I can't imagine Bill isn't giving his best efforts and I have no doubts he would hang it up if he didn't have that desire

I'm now at a cross roads guys • Feb 17, 2025 04:09 PM

Been struggling with the same @SlimShaddy54.

I'm certainly an eternal optimist of KU but have been a Negative Nancy a lot this season (and in past seasons at times). Perspective is key. In the heat of the moment (like game chats) hard to not press that send button when things are not going well. I've tried to tone that down but understand I'm not perfect and have room to grow still. The game chats became such a part of the game experience for me with everyone, but I've realized unless the result is going well I'm better off not saying anything at all. Some games I say a lot, some not so much.

I knew Saturday was a likely loss so I stayed out of the chat for just about all of it. Trying to be better. Tomm is another expected L, and could be ugly if they don't bring their A game which on the road hasn't happened against a good team yet. So I can prepare myself to be absent from the chat if its not going well.

I know that the negativity from many including myself at times has led to a downturn in the chat/discussions. We should be free to discuss the good and bad and we are but I do understand that many don't come here to have that experience ruined by "fire Bill Self threads" and constant criticism of players etc. We are all passionate otherwise we wouldn't be here chatting as a community. That balance is always key. I wish the season was going better so that would naturally give us that balance of good and bad. It's difficult to process when there's been a lot more bad then good it seems. College Basketball continues to change and not for the best in many ways. We have great expectations as a fan-base, any team that wins consistently like we have will create the highest of expectations with little room to go but down. Hopefully the end of this year ends better then its looking or next year is a chance to restart something.

The rest of the season • Feb 17, 2025 04:01 PM

A lot can happen in a month. The strong non-conference resume will keep KU off the bubble I would think but it's a fluid situation if it continues to spiral as it is currently. They were just a projected #4 seed which blows my mind but given the chance they could lose 4+ games coming up in regular season & Big-12 tournament means the margin for error is rapidly diminishing. Past blue-blood teams that missed the tournament probably didn't have the resume KU currently has to keep them off the pressure cooker.

We'll see if this team can rise above what's in front of them. Tomorrow's game has blowout potential so it would be nice to see a big effort from this bunch after Saturday's debacle. Historically been great bouncing back after losses but this group is anything but fitting the historic narrative at this point. They desperately need a shot of momentum, or the steady decline is not fixable. Whatever team bonding activity was planned for yesterday needs to have an impact if possible. I can only think of Devonte Graham in this situation and how we desperately need someone like him to step up in the locker room and gets these guys back on the same page, playing together.

Theyre not diamonds but theyre in the rough • Feb 16, 2025 12:39 PM

@approxinfinity

Perhaps Fran the other night had it right. Harris, KJ and to some extent Dickinson are just "role players" being forced to be something they are not. Our player development used to be second to none. Those players owning the step up to leadership and being the standard. The cycle went on for 2 decades. It's fair to question whether that is truly gone now with this group. Bill needs to seriously invest in more help to find the right fits to play under him. The correction from last year to this one has been a failure. Everyone involved needs a reset it looks

I think what @BeddieKU23 said after the Houston loss is proving to be true. Season killer kind of loss.

The Creighton/Missouri week was the first sign this was a broken bunch. The Houston loss just kind of cemented how disconnected this group is together.

If Bill’s roster falls apart… • Feb 15, 2025 07:22 PM

@SlimShaddy54 said in If Bill’s roster falls apart…:

I see that the NCAA still has us aas one of the top 16 seeds in their initial projections

That was hilarious actually. Just let's you know that people really don't pay attention

If Bill’s roster falls apart… • Feb 15, 2025 06:05 PM

@SlimShaddy54

The production will be replaced easily. Hunter gets you 20 but isn't the difference between wins for this team. He gets his usual and never strays too far from it regardless of the opponent. Peterson will offer a completely different dynamic. He's an NBA player and Hunt will never see the league so there's a big difference there in terms of what impact he could give.

Self will have to find scorers in the portal again though. Flory will be another double figure guy but beyond that he's going to need to find 3rd and 4th options. Elmarko and Diggy can give you consistent bench pts probably. This offseason will be the most critical one we've had in perhaps the Self era because there just is so much change coming

If Bill’s roster falls apart… • Feb 15, 2025 05:57 PM

Another season with AJ isn't going to benefit either side here

TV shows • Feb 14, 2025 05:43 PM

Landman was great, BBT was amazing.

Currently watching The Recruit on Netflix which is good so far.

If Bill’s roster falls apart… • Feb 13, 2025 11:02 PM

Diggy said he would be eager to return next year. Does have the extra year. Hopefully he does

Dajuan Harris • Feb 12, 2025 11:34 PM

Now 2nd all time in assists. Won't catch Miles but imagine he will stick in that spot for a while

Wait, KU is playing? • Feb 12, 2025 11:33 PM

One thing from last night that was negative from the game that stuck with me. Passmore getting the quick hook in the first half after a 3 attempt. Just not sure that's a conference builder for a kid who's seen limited time due to depth at his position and being a freshman. You gotta give him a chance to play some possessions and learn.

Wait, KU is playing? • Feb 12, 2025 10:49 PM

I liked Adams effort last night. Looked the most healthy he's been since the injury. He's making some effort plays like tip outs on offensive boards and some defensive plays that nobody else is really doing. Had 5 dimes as well. The energy plays are where he shines most it seems.

Would take last nights game from him and bottle it up every game. That's what he can continue to do for this team

Wait, KU is playing? • Feb 12, 2025 03:34 AM

Just 22 pts this half at the under 4. Not what you want to see at home

Wait, KU is playing? • Feb 12, 2025 03:32 AM

Griffen 2-14 from 3 last 3

Wait, KU is playing? • Feb 12, 2025 03:31 AM

Pretty inept offense. Hopefully they hang on

If Bill’s roster falls apart… • Feb 11, 2025 02:35 PM

I'd be interested to know what our time of possession is on offense currently and where that ranks to past teams/national rank. I'm not sure limiting possessions on that end helps us with a whole bunch of guys who can't shoot well. Your two starting bigs are making only 50% of their attempts. This has been a very limited offensive team outside a handful of games. But I'm sure there's probably something to gain by limiting possessions once you accept you don't have an offensive juggernaut team. Is that even something that can be changed this late?

If Bill’s roster falls apart… • Feb 11, 2025 01:29 AM

@FarmerJayhawk

Great idea

If Bill’s roster falls apart… • Feb 10, 2025 11:22 PM

Maybe all the inconsistent play we have seen in the last couple years is player related only. All his talk of what standard he wants from players after games like Saturday is good insight to the struggles. He doesnt sound surprised his team is still playing this way.

No way I want Bill fired but I'm at a loss of words for some of what we are seeing. I think we can all recognize that Bill is in fact in the last years of his career. It's on the horizon.

I can't imagine he hangs it up without his legacy having one more big time run. He's been the ultimate competitor as a coach and that's been the fuel to much of the success we've been so spoiled with. This year was supposed to be high expectations based on the roster churn and enough of a core returning to compete for all of the season accolades. We've had no major long term injury concerns that usually derail a season like this. We have plenty of depth at most positions. We have plenty of guys that have scored a lot of pts in their career and won a lot of games. A few of them even played on a National Championship winning team.

So what is the problem then?

House of The Stubborn Coach • Feb 09, 2025 07:23 PM

Doesn't sound like the players and coaches on same page. Never a good thing

Elmarko Healthcheck • Feb 09, 2025 12:51 PM

We have a chance to lose Flory as well the way it's being handled.

Hopefully that isn't what happens. This is a mess of a season.
