Smith can dunk, athletic 5. Havent seen a highlight that wasn't a dunk though
If the law of averages happens here Dave will probably shoot a higher % as the season goes on. We need him to get above 50%. He is getting good post position but they could definitely work with him on taking the ball strong into defenders instead of the fadeaway and all the weird stuff he does to miss shots. If he is going to continue to have such a high usage we need him to make shots at a higher rate

Thanks @benshawks08 @BeddieKU23
Maybe this will clarify it a bit. Dave is Top 100 of all College Basketball Players on usage (32%). He's taken 29.8% of shots when he's on the floor which puts him around 150 in CBB.
I did some quick research at other players with high usage to see how well those guys are doing. 6 guys with similar usage but look at the difference in scoring and FG%. Self is focusing the offense on the wrong guy at this point..

Interesting. Cali kid automatically makes me think lost cause
Kind of an odd update. Paul put out the list of schools he was in contact with months ago. Would be surprised to make his 5 given we've signed 3 kids
Yeah they pay attention to Analytics. Hopefully they figure something out
Watched til half, looks like Beard only played 6 guys heavy minutes instead of the platoon he was using
As @BShark pointed out I use Sports-reference mainly.
Doke actually had usage in the low 20's last year, 22.9%, Career average 23.5%. Dave as a semi starter/backup last year had higher usage when he was in the game. Dotson led the team in usage but no surprise since he was the main ball handler & leading scorer.
Dotson & Azubuike had excellent PER's (player efficiency) & TSE (true shooting efficiency). Self got elite production from both at their position.
@benshawks08 broke it down well. The combination of high usage, poor FG% from Dave is not good offense and it's not sustainable for success.
It's been only 6 games but Jalen Wilson's analytics say he should be taking more shots and having more possessions funneled to him. Christian Braun as well for that matter.
Watching Texas Tech right now. So far they have pressed and subbed in 3/4 guys after a few minutes.
They have played 12/13 guys rotation minutes so far this season
Bigger Picture thought.
All the talk about McCormack's play so far points out how reliant this offense is on having a quality big in the post.
Until Self shifts away from that philosophy there is no greater potential weakness in the ceiling of a KU team then having below average post play.
Dave's usage rate when on the floor is astronomical (32%) for a player shooting 40% from the field and averaging 10 points a game. The three statistics are not sustainable for success.
He definitely gave us some net positive minutes last night. I liked how he would set the high screen and dash to the lane which would create spacing and reaction from the defense. His PER is still influenced greatly by limited minutes.
And here I thought the anti-Adidas bias was the only thing we had to worry about
Last Night was an off game from him offensively. But he guarded well as always, ball hawking Ballock and others all night.
4 Assists, 5 boards, 2 steals and 3 TO's. Not great but not a "the sky is falling" type game either.
Ochai's problem as Self alluded to in preseason is when he's not aggressive and makes shots he tends to disappear. That's why you tend to see Agbaji score often in the first half because it seems to keep his mind sharp and aggressive. He missed some shots he normally hits and their was a failed lob attempt that probably would have helped him out if they connected.
I do however disagree 100% that his minutes should go elsewhere. Shooting 41% from 3 with improved form. He's at a 2/1 assist/turnover ratio which is a big improvement from his first two seasons. Bet he bounces back big time Friday
KJ Adams moved up to #45 in ESPN latest update. Should see a bump in his composite off that I think
Clemence holding at #31.
Yeah given the timing of the comments (after a 2nd home loss) with no fans its hard to see this as anything but def-tone bull crap.
Yes RJ as well.
Funny how things work out. Hurt isn't anywhere close to the player I thought he would be in College.
Agree that sticking with Bryce was good for him. Despite it being a bad turnover the Creighton player just made a heck of play on the ball to steal it and get the bucket. That was Marcus Garrett territory theft
Of course K-St deserves him.
Thanks John Beilein! Thank you for leaving College Basketball
Yes Thompson has a rep for his mid-range pull up game. Confident shooter, has a bit of a weird motion on his perimeter shots but it works. He showed flashes last night of why he was highly rated coming in. Really think by middle of Conference Play (sort of like how Christian Braun emerged last season) he's going to be an important rotation piece.
Mitch stole some possessions and rebounded in the post. Helps when Creighton doesn't have anyone 6'8 and up. Still don't care for him to try and make plays with the ball though, that's not his game.
Last night was the best Dave's played all year. A few times in the first half he actually moved towards the basket and finished the play. In the 2nd half he was a mess outside of the pass to Wilson for the 3. He gets credit for making the right play but before that had made several bonehead plays. The biggest problem with David on offense is the usage (still above 30%) and that's a coaching issue. On defense I have no solution, I have no idea what he's doing on that end
Stronger competition has brought him back down to life. Just needs time in the lab to get comfortable.
Agree his shot is a concern that needs to be addressed. He's Marcus 2.0 as a shooter.
Having Dajuan, Marcus & Dave on the floor at the same time is poor recognition of strengths and weaknesses. No defense is going to respect that lineup.

@BeddieKU23 whenβs his contract up?
I lost track, it seems they give him an extension every time he has a winning season LOL.
Edit: Google says he was extended through 2022-23 season
Another way of saying the program is a dumpster fire right now?
PER's after the big win
Huge win last night. This group has fight.
Doghoused after that missed layup that he could have passed to Tristan
If K-St cares about basketball you fire Weber today. If they don't that's fine for us and everyone else!
Imagine he's staying east
Yeah its in January
Yeah Ochai had one of those nights. At least he defended and did a few other things
His usage rate is 10% higher then Doke. Self has got to have a funeral on this feed Dave 15-20 possessions a game nonsense
@BShark said in Toronto Blue Jays discussion.:
Won a game against a top 10 opponent where Ochai did nothing offensively. Impressive.
As well as TGF
I'll take the win!!
WOW
U freaking real
Braun you had one f job
I just don't get it
Wtf
Come on CB. WE NEED THIS FREEBIE
Please no dave
Up 5 with a chance to be up 6 and 20 seconds later it's tied. Come on
Wtf bryce wtf
Marcus
So many missed layups. Lots of blocks too
At this rate another year of him starting would be torture
Imagine if Dave could rebound
Yep first half he was good. 2nd half poop on a stick
You can't make that up if you tried
Wheres the foul??
I'm praying he sits the last of this
