Self Knows -- And That Is A Relief • Jul 06, 2014 05:24 PM

@drgnslayr how's your garden? My yard is my island, but it's fun to hear about your travels.

The Future • Jul 04, 2014 04:25 PM

@DoubleDD awesome! Thanks for sharing. Happy 4th to all KU fans!

@ralster you are right! I watched the KU-osu game tonight on cox22, in AFH. A healthy Embiid was pretty awesome! He was not the same after being hurt. Made me sick to think we won't get to watch him grow up in AFH!

@JayHawkFanToo I think selden's knee probably had something to do w/him staying too.

@globaljaybird great advice! You can certainly tell which way some of our posters lean!

@ralster he's one of the first guys I thought of when Self said we could take some ex-players w/us next summer. Something like a guy that needs to have another chance to be seen.

Andrew White to visit Notre Dame • Jul 01, 2014 04:33 PM

@JayhawkRock78 good to hear! Anyone heard anything about Naadir? Basketball wise!

Self Knows -- And That Is A Relief • Jun 30, 2014 04:24 PM

@HighEliteMajor Naadir was a jr.

@JayhawkRock78 I hated to see it go off campus, it's so much harder for the athletes to get there. Thanks for sharing!

So you got the summer blues? • Jun 26, 2014 06:07 AM

@ralster well that was depressing!

@nuleafjhawk are you referring to Embiid and wiggins? Not sure I'm getting you!

@JayHawkFanToo me! I love the KU relays. It's not the same sooooo far away. I like fb too, but I've seen better athletes on the track than on the field.

Baseless Basketball Rumors • Jun 25, 2014 09:57 PM

@drgnslayr let's hope the draft tomorrow makes us smile!

Sad news about Isaiah Austin • Jun 24, 2014 03:19 AM

Former Baylor Bears center Isaiah Austin, who saw his dreams of playing in the NBA abruptly come to a halt this week, has an insurance policy worth at least $1 million, his agent, Dwon Clifton, confirmed to ESPN.com.

"We will get through this week, and then we'll file the claim and get the ball rolling," Clifton said.

The 7-foot-1 Austin took out the insurance policy through the NCAA's elite athlete insurance program. A college basketball player typically pays about $5,000 per million, an insurance industry source said, and an athlete can collect the amount he is insured for only if he has a total disability that ends his career.

A pre-draft physical found that Austin has Marfan syndrome, a genetic disorder in which those who have it are discouraged from taking part in strenuous exercise to avoid overtaxing the heart.

Insurance policies that cover career-ending situations usually include a 12-month wait period as the insurer sees whether the athlete can make an attempt to recover. But Austin's case should be resolved sooner, since there's little debate over his diagnosis and doctors' recommendations.

Clifton said the policy would not have paid out if Austin's career ended due to his eyesight or his shoulder.

Austin has a prosthetic right eye and had surgery on his shoulder heading into his sophomore season this past fall.

Assuming Austin qualifies, and it is expected he should, he will not have to pay taxes on his insurance payout.

Austin was projected to be a mid- to late second-round pick in Thursday's draft.

Sad news about Isaiah Austin • Jun 24, 2014 03:15 AM

@DanR can't believe he knew, not only a deal breaker, but a life-breaker! You are right, it does suck!

Sad news about Isaiah Austin • Jun 24, 2014 01:31 AM

@ralster I'm thinking he could sure work for fox sports or espn, after he gets a degree. He's certainly deserving of some bountiful blessings! I would love to hear him do some big 12 games.

Report: Embiid Broken Foot? • Jun 21, 2014 05:43 PM

Another question, will there be cameras w/Embiid? Or, do you think someone will go up for him? Maybe Self?

Report: Embiid Broken Foot? • Jun 21, 2014 04:31 PM

Does anybody think Smart's decision to stay another year hurt his draft status? I was so sick of hearing that it did hurt it during the season! Appears they were wrong, looks like he's going a lot higher than they thought. You think?

It just feels Good. • Jun 21, 2014 03:46 PM

@DoubleDD I'm thinking in 10 years one of those kids could be playing here.

Report: Embiid Broken Foot? • Jun 19, 2014 04:15 PM

@Kip_McSmithers I'm sick for him!

@HighEliteMajor you are right, role player, certainly not a role model!

@DoubleDD That was awesome!!!!! Better have a few more!!!!

@ralster huge recruiting tool too! What as awesome opportunity for the kids. Does anyone think he'll suit up the "sons"? He sure wants to competitive ! I think he said 2 non playing players would be able to go.

@Crimsonorblue22 Tarik?

@Crimsonorblue22 I know it depends on who leaves, recruits, but it sounded like if we had less than 12 schollie kids Self would be excited to get some older jhawk players. I'm guessing coaches kids wouldn't be on bench? Who would you like to see go w/us?

@icthawkfan316 I just watched the announcement and I'm confused!!! Sounds like NBA guys could play if they enrolled, and if their agent/team ok'd it. Self said 25 yr old guys too. Anybody else see it?

@icthawkfan316 sooooo, hypothetically, if Selby enrolled at KU and took 3 hrs, would he be eligible? Not sure of his age, just wondered. I was also thinking if he could play he could get some exposure and help us at the same time. Crazy thoughts!

This is outstanding news!!!

@HighEliteMajor sounds like they had to be enrolled in the past year too, besides incoming athletes. Have no idea which one is right on the age! Looks like it will be a team that will be on our 2015 roster.

Re: KU to participate in 2015 World University Games
Here are the Eligibility Rules directly from the games website:

2015 Games Requirements

The Universiades and Championships are open to all student athletes that have not been out of university or its equivalent for more than a year and that are between 17 and 28 years old. Any association or national federation which is recognized by the US-IUSF (and in turn, FISU) is eligible to nominate a team or individual competitor in a sport represented in the current World University Games competition.

Each athlete must meet the following specific criteria in order to be eligible.

United States Citizen and able to obtain a US Passport.
Born between January 1, 1987 and December 31, 1997. For basketball, the athlete must be born after January 1, 1990 and before December 31, 1997.
Have taken at least one 3-credit course towards a degree or diploma within the last year before the GAMES. Incoming freshman and transfers are usually eligible.
Sign the Comprehensive Acceptance of Team USA Agreements form.
Sign the Team USA Honor Code and Code of Conduct form.
Sign the Team USA Authorizations, Waiver and Release Form.

Also, from the USA Basketball Website:
Once the rules were changed, however, the NBA was invited to become a part of USA Basketball, and it was determined that NBA players would play in the Olympics and World Championships with college and other young players continuing to represent the U.S. in all other international competition.

So it looks like it's a USA basketball rule and only members of the team next year that haven't declared for the NBA can play.

Embiid Red Flags • Jun 16, 2014 11:27 PM

@jaybate 1.0 I guess Hippa laws don't apply to the NBA? I, as you can tell, don't know much about trading in the NBA.
