Really bad possession by Harris - first giving it to Dave that high and then getting caught in the front court corner...
That hurts...
Garrett and Braun first in double figures...
And, we are back to TO city...
Culver is even making his FTs...
@BeddieKU23 said in Huggy Bonus Game Thread:
Just excited to be tied
I know, but that is really so sad....
Now, can we sustain it??? We're getting awfully excited about being tied early in the second half of a game...
Starters have 10-9-9-9-8
Where did all of that come from???????
Get some frigging stops...
Only way Dave can make one around the rim if it is actually inside the rim....
That should have been offensive goaltending...
Way, way too much dribbling with no purpose by Marcus...
Well, we have balanced scoring from the starters fwtw...
We have 4 assists and 9 TOs -- WVU has 9 assists and 5 TOs....
@benshawks08 said in Huggy Bonus Game Thread:
@DCHawker not sure we are good enough passers to pull them off.
I am sure.... ;)
@approxinfinity said in Huggy Bonus Game Thread:
Can we please use a skip pass?
Jalen tried one of those which was easily stolen...
Dave is getting abused by Culver...
@DanR said in Huggy Bonus Game Thread:
I think four guys, maybe five, have missed a layup so far.
Garrett, Dave, Juan and Braun have each missed point blank lay-ups...
3-12 from short range and 7 TOs. Lucky we aren't down double digits...
Braun put up no resistance on that drive...
@BShark said in Huggy Bonus Game Thread:
I see dave sucks today
It started when he missed the bucket from a foot away...
Just really stupid TOs....
@benshawks08 said in Huggy Bonus Game Thread:
They are playing hard.
More defensive intensity than in a while...
@Kcmatt7 said in Huggy Bonus Game Thread:
@DCHawker the one make was a layup though...
You are correct, sir....
@Kcmatt7 said in Huggy Bonus Game Thread:
@DCHawker 1-7 if we’re going for accuracy. But your point still stands
1-8 - one shot was from 3.... ;)
@BeddieKU23 said in Huggy Bonus Game Thread:
Guess we skipped shoot around again
The problem so far isn't missed shots - it's missed bunnies - 0-7 from a foot away...
Just sad......
Yet another painful start...
How did Dave completely miss the basket from 6 inches????
Mizzou only up 1 with a minute to go....

I'll continue to take my crow served with dinner regarding Grimes. Just a complete whiff from what I thought he'd be at this level. Seen some of his games this year. I will say this, he's a better college player now then he was when he played for KU. Good fit in the AAC.
I would argue that he is just about the same player he was at KU - just two years older, gets a few more minutes per game, and plays against inferior competition most games. While he is the Cougars leading scorer, he is very inefficient. As @Kcmatt7 noted, he shooting 38% from the field - and, that is actually deceptive. He's only had 6 games all year when he's made above 40%. His scoring average is largely a function of taking lot of shots. He's also gotten a slight bump from improving his FT% (80). He's at best an average rebounder for his position/size. Maybe an above average passer when he doesn't actually shoot. All in all, a decent starter on a decent team in a middling conference, but that's about it. Definitely has not lived up to the hype he had coming out...
@BeddieKU23 said in Rock Chalk game thread:
Marcus just sucks. I'm sorry
Ah, that's not really fair. He was great last year. He just isn't a PG, and it's not his fault that he's been thrust into a role he's not suited for. I think he's a really good complementary role player who can play the 2-4, even 5 positions well depending on matchups - just not the 1....
@Crimsonorblue22 said in Rock Chalk game thread:
Tennessee lost
It's not just that Tenn lost, it's that they scored just 50 points, which is more reflective of their offense for a few games before they played the KU defensive brick wall...
@BeddieKU23 said in Agbaji on ESPN mock draft board:
46. Only Hawk listed, like that's a surprise
Other Big-12..
1 Cade Cunningham
16 Kai Jones
23 Greg Brown
25 Terrance Shannon
29 Davion Mitchell
30 Jared Butler
One other to note..
38 Bones Hyland, KU made a run at him late few years back but he ended up signing with VCU. Now averaging 18 a game and a 2nd round pick. Ugh
Indicative of the fact that is the least talented team under Self, and perhaps one of the least talented in the past few decades - at least in terms of NBA caliber players. I don't really think Agbaji is NBA-ready. He is a poor ball handler, especially for a wing player, can't create his own shot, and doesn't have much lateral quickness. Perhaps he can develop into a 3 and D bench player, but he has to become a much more consistent 3 point shooter.
I simply didn't sufficiently appreciate coming in to the season how little athleticism this team possesses. We're slow at every position and play way below the rim. Not a good combination. We see the result when 3 point shots aren't falling. When Self teams have struggled on offense in the past, which has not been an infrequent occurrence, they could rely on the defense to win ugly, grind it out games. As demonstrated against Tennessee, this team doesn't appear to be capable of imposing its will defensively or making another team at all uncomfortable in running sets and getting the shots they want. Zero rim protection and lack of speed to cut off drives or close out on 3 point shots.
Ha - well, this thread was supposed to be about the three streaks where KU has reigned supreme even after the end of the conference champion streak. Didn't contemplate that it would actually end up about Jeopardy, but that's okay too. Notwithstanding Trebek's passing, more enjoyable to talk about than the 20/21 version of the Jayhawks.
As noted, I watch Jeopardy semi-regularly. Haven't seen The Chase, so will look for that. Definitely enjoyed the All-Time Champions Tournament with Jennings, Rucker and Holtzhauer. Jennings came out on top, but he and Jeopardy James were actually very evenly matched - luck came into as Jennings had more Daily Doubles pop up for him.
Another nation's longest KU streak has survived - at least for one more week - being ranked in the AP poll. Voters who clearly aren't paying attention rewarded us for our one ugly win in the past 5 games by keeping us at #23 in the poll released today. Probably have to not only beat KSU tomorrow, but also win at WVU on Saturday, to stay there.
20 win season streak definitely at risk after the Tenn debacle. NCAA tourney appearance streak increasingly in question, as well...
@DanR said in KU/ Tenn , so what you think ? Game time:
Ah, remember back when we fantasized about the 5 guard lineup. Thos were the days
Turned out we really don't have ANY guards...
@DanR said in KU/ Tenn , so what you think ? Game time:
Well, that was our run, I guess.
Our "runs" are like 3 or 4 buckets over a 5 minute stretch. But, even then, we've given up 6 or 7....
Tenn has scored this many points just twice in their past 8 games...
The effort stat is rebounds -- 32 -15. 8 Tenn players have as many or more rebounds than our big guy...
Tennessee now has as many points as they scored all game against Florida. Scored 56 in their last game against might Miss. St.
@bmensch1 said in KU/ Tenn , so what you think ? Game time:
Ku has had about 8 open 3s and made one. Contested or not contested....5 out of 7 for this UT team is a fluke.
Unfortunately, that seems to be a common theme this year for every ku opponent...some dude or dudes have some crazy career game.
They'll fall back just like Texas tech and west Virginia and well prevail
Maybe some reversion to the mean, but the main problem is that we have no defensive intensity. We're not making them uncomfortable - the exact opposite. No pressure, so they are confident...
We have 10 more points from the FT line - only thing keeping this from being 20+ right now...
TGF and Jalen both drive into triple teams...
Well, we got to 20 for the half...
In another thread, I noted that our consecutive 20 win season streak is at big time risk. Now, also our consecutive weeks ranked streak...
Braun - Ochai - Garrett - Wilson = 0-11
Well, we had 3 ball hit the rim twice - that's progress...
