OH man that was fun • Jul 20, 2018 02:09 AM

80 mph wind... not a drop of rain in Lawrence

Wait a minute... there are people who DON'T appreciate Jaybate??? This is the guy who literally invented "PHOF".

Will LeBron and Lakers Sign with Puma? • Jul 05, 2018 04:46 PM

What I want to know is with which team/players will Pony try to make a comeback?

Holy crap, I just looked them up ↗ and they still make the exact same shoes they did in the 70s! LOL.

TOP 10 4 year players under Self • Jun 26, 2018 04:18 PM

Big omission not having Tyler Self on the list. We won nearly every time that kid was on the floor at the end of the game.

If you can't remember Self saying such nice things about incoming players, you guys are forgetting Bill Self's favorite athlete of all time (Not Grimes ↗)

KU MU alumni game • Jun 16, 2018 02:48 AM

Sounds like all the stars are KU guys. Anthony Peeler still alive?

KU MU alumni game • Jun 16, 2018 12:22 AM

Sounds kind of boring, but go for it.

......

A Kansas-Missouri alumni basketball game for charity, entitled “Rivalry Renewed,” will be contested on Saturday, July 28, at Silverstein Eye Centers Arena in Independence, former Missouri Tigers player and game organizer Kareem Rush said Friday.

The game, set for a 7:30 p.m. tipoff, will benefit Rush’s “Rush Forward Foundation” and the Boys and Girls Club.

No More Blocking Transfers • Jun 15, 2018 12:40 AM

@DanR No, actually it is easy to argue about a kid who is told to move on. When Vick came to Kansas, what was the deal? Did he sign a four year guaranteed deal, or did he sign a deal that either party could terminate at will, with the only real condition if terminated that the player had to sit a year? It business, that's a non-compete.

Why is it that if Vick just decided to walk away, no one worries about the position that Vick puts Kansas in? He can leave at any time, and go anywhere he wants. Heck, he can leave midseason and leave the team hanging. Self can't cut his scholarship midseason. The only thing he can't do, in the entire world, is play D-1 basketball for a season.

Yes, those are the current rules, and that's what we're talking about here -- re-writing the rules. I agree that if a kid bails by choice (your second paragraph), he should have to sit a year. I think that's a good and fair rule.

But if a coach decides to force out a player, and the kid wants to stay, I would argue that it doesn't hurt the coach or school one bit if the kid plays for a different D1 school the next year. Discipline problems aside (breach of contract), if the kid is so talented he'll help the competition too much instead of sitting on your bench, maybe he shouldn't have been cut. Frankamp, for example. Did he leave us short handed? No. Obviously that situation wasn't working out. A clean break would be better for the coach and the kid, IMO.

Every kid "cut" by Self... I can't think of one he let go that ever came back to bite us in the ass. Don't want them, just let 'em play somewhere else. I think there should be an option where a coach can say, I've released him from the "non-compete." (That happens in the business world too.)

No More Blocking Transfers • Jun 14, 2018 06:15 PM

Hard to argue about a case where a kid was basically told to move on (like Vick, Bragg, Anrio Adams, etc.). I never understood why those guys should have to sit out a year. I guess coaches probably don't want to fess up that they push kids out, and there's no way to prove whose choice it was.

What's your greatest sports moments? • May 30, 2018 02:00 PM

I saw Barry Bonds strike out with the bases loaded against the cubs in the top of the 9th in Wrigley back in the early 90s when he played for Pittsburg (and before his head and neck became the size of a volkswagen). Tie game at that point. Ryne Sandberg hit a line drive homer in the bottom of the 9th to win it. That was pretty sweet.

Unwritten rules • May 01, 2018 12:46 PM

It's really just two unwritten rules:

  1. Don't be a dick.

  2. Don't be a crybaby.

Applies to players, coaches, fans, sportswriters...well, actually, pretty much everyone in life!

I never found out whether he pronounced his name Ro-MAY-oh or RO-me-oh.

Oh well.

NCAA Commission Findings Release • Apr 27, 2018 03:18 AM

hmmmm, seemed like pretty obvious hyperbole to me

Azubuike Declares (no agent) • Apr 20, 2018 05:46 PM

@wissox Good point (about the point). To be honest, it was a classic NBA defensive play: "oops, got burnt, oh well, save my energy, I'm still a millionaire."

Azubuike Declares (no agent) • Apr 20, 2018 02:13 PM

I figured he was gone when he turned to run back up the court and let a Villanova player shoot an uncontested layup with about 5 minutes left in the F4 game.

Anyone watching NBA Playoffs? • Apr 20, 2018 04:06 AM

Has LeBron dribbled yet during the playoffs?

LOL. I thought yours was a new post, approx.

I'd say Shoe Co.s are squeaky clean compared to Big Pharma and the Medical Industrial Complex.

Add $6.5 billion to the doctor bribes on what drugmakers spend on advertising and it's still pennies compared to the amount of money they pull in.

I checked my doc, and he received $27.79 in the past 4 years. Lunch? I was pretty sure he was a straight shooter, although he sure pushes every possible test that insurance will pay for in his clinic.

Choir Boys No More • Apr 05, 2018 01:46 AM

@drgnslayr waaah? Your real name not Dragon Slayer?

Draft Declarations Thread • Apr 05, 2018 01:40 AM

@nuleafjhawk Pierce, Gooden, Aldrich and a few others at least stayed three years. I can live with that. Slipping in to get some ESPN time for a year. Bleh.

Draft Declarations Thread • Apr 05, 2018 01:36 AM

Figured Newman was a goner, and wish him luck. I enjoyed his month or two as a Jayhawk a lot for sure.

Michigan Actually Plays D • Apr 03, 2018 02:55 AM

except we would have won if Nova had shot this poorly (33% from 3 so far)

Michigan Actually Plays D • Apr 03, 2018 02:53 AM

Pretty sure I saw this game saturday

This was the best chance we had to get it under 10 and make it a ballgame. Down 14 at the 9:23 mark. Then.... missed three threes in a row. (That one by Malik at 9:05, might have been one of his hero attempts.)

!0_1522689819451_KUmisses.jpg ↗

It's worth noting that we should have fouled them a lot more, but that goes along with playing better perimeter D and contesting shots.

OK, I'm ready to move on.

The worse KU's three point shooting is, the more 3pt shots KU should take, when KU is playing another 3 point shooting team.

Nope. Shooting 2s at 51% is slightly better than shooting 3s at 33%.

Unless you have a plan to get more possessions than the other team, there is no advantage in shooting more threes the way KU shot against Nova.

I heard Self say we'd need to play a near perfect game and Nova would have to be about average. I think, in hindsight, his offensive game plan was good.

KU shoots 40% average from three, we'd have two more makes: +6 pts

Doke gets at least 10 touches instead of 6, that's at least three more makes: +6 pts

Guards only get blocked 3 times instead of 5 driving (or have fouls called): +4 pts

So, there's 16 points right there without changing the game plan.

Nova shot 5% better than average from three... thats 2 extra makes: take off that 6 pts and it's a totally different ballgame.

So, yes, KU had a very reasonable chance to win shooting half as many threes as Nova

Game Day Chat room • Apr 01, 2018 02:25 AM

Game Day Chat room • Apr 01, 2018 02:18 AM

We have fing one foul and it was a screen.

Game Day Chat room • Apr 01, 2018 02:17 AM

Only way selfs game plan works is if the refs have a quick whistle and nova shoots 20%

Game Day Chat room • Apr 01, 2018 02:16 AM

Maybe having doke meet his mom at the airport at 12:30 am wasn't such a good idea?

Game Day Chat room • Apr 01, 2018 02:11 AM

Seem to have gotten worser

Game Day Chat room • Apr 01, 2018 01:39 AM

No reason not to be all over these guys on defense. In their jerseys tight

Game Day Chat room • Apr 01, 2018 01:38 AM

Remember when we almost blew a 20 point lead last Friday?

Game Day Chat room • Apr 01, 2018 01:30 AM

if we get it under ten by half I'll be happy. But change the offensive pkan for second half

Game Day Chat room • Apr 01, 2018 01:27 AM

This game plan sucks

Game Day Chat room • Apr 01, 2018 01:16 AM

We're shooting 100 % from three or 0%

Game Day Chat room • Apr 01, 2018 01:13 AM

We'll, Villanova is due to miss some threes

Game Day Chat room • Mar 31, 2018 10:52 PM

I hope we shoot better than Michigan and Loyola (and villanova). This is awful

Duke fans have a new T-Shirt. • Mar 30, 2018 02:22 AM

Hell, I'd buy that shirt because it has Gracie Allen standing there in the background, helpless and unable to trip Malik, after the blow-by.

Man, I love that photo.

How should Jay attack the find a way boys? • Mar 29, 2018 11:34 PM

In '16 we hit 'Nova with one day to prepare. Wright won that battle with a very simple plan to stop Perry to get us out of our comfort zone, and lucked out with cold shooting from Selden, Svi and Mason. I like our chances a lot with 6 days prep and four upper classmen guards.

Self has solved the zone puzzle since the Washington game even if it is maddeningly slow as hell to watch.

Unknown topic • Mar 29, 2018 11:27 PM

@wissox Once the three-headed pitching monster (Herrera, Holland and Davis) became the one-headed monster (Herrera), it was all downhill.

Didn't get a chance to watch the first 7 innings. Were Duffy and Boyer pitching underhanded, or is it windier in KC than it is over here in Lawrence?

Good news perhaps is that ticket prices might drop a bit. Got a little ridiculous last couple years.
