Job Killer, or Just the right thing to do? β€’ Jul 24, 2017 08:42 PM

@justanotherfan According to this, β†— Popeye's current CEO made $3,889,687 last year.

That's about 129 times what her 15-buck-an-hour employees would make, which these days is probably on the low end of the outrageousness spectrum, although--let's be honest--it's fried chicken, not tech or big pharm. Reportedly, she did a pretty good job, and Popeyes was bought by RESTAURANT BRANDS INTL (Burger King/Tim Hortons)

New owner CEO β†— gets $6,173,993 / year, so he makes in one day what a 15-buck-an-hour employee makes per year.

At the game last night--I didn't realize it was buck night until I paid 8.25 for a jumbo dog and a dollar for my wife's junior dog last night. I 'm pretty sure they didn't advertise buck night on the scoreboard until the 6th inning.
Full house, really nice night and lots of families out there. Good game for a while.

How about DA MOOOSE! Holy crap. I'll be at the K next friday after the break. I hope they're still rolling. These guys are starting to show some of the intangibles (having fun!). I worry about the pitching, but no quitters in the lineup. AL Central sucks, so who knows. Could end up first or last at this point.

Not sure how to do the emojjis, but younger Lightfoot at West Point is thumbs up.:cartwheel_tone5: :+1:

How's Everyone's Summer? β€’ Jul 03, 2017 11:57 PM

A couple days ago we hit the Kansas badlands/castle rock on the way to Keystone, Colorado for a few days in search of cool air.
Our big "summer trip" is a month on Bowen Island near Vancouver, Canada in September.

Udoka, first team All-American β€’ Jun 09, 2017 03:11 AM

What true 7-foot center in college basketball is going to be better than "The Problem" this year?

There isn't one. If he can get the footwork down, he's Ewing/Shaq 2.0.1.1.1.1.1.

Udoka, first team All-American β€’ Jun 09, 2017 02:30 AM

I agree. He dunks easier than I do on my 10-year-old neighbor kid's 8 foot basket.

He's going to be a "problem" β†— according to Darnell Jackson.

Nickname: The Problem

He might foul out for 30 games, but when the refs choke on the whistles in the championship game, he'll destroy people.

VIDEO FROM YESTERDAY"S SCRIMMAGE β€’ Jun 07, 2017 05:49 PM

@wrwlumpy I'm not convinced Mitch won't end up seeing some playing time this year as an energy guy if nothing else. Even last year, it was clear he understood the spots to hit on the floor. He's a surprisingly good shot blocker and rebounder as well.

@dylans 3:20 or 5:00 mark?

Here's how much Kentucky BB thinks of their strength and conditioning coach:
(didn't bother getting photos uploaded, I guess) β†—:

Louisville strength and conditioning coach:

@elpoyo: Hudy has about 40 NBA players (from UConn and KU) heaping praise on her non-stop when they aren't coming back to Lawrence to train with her. She's written a book, done some actual research, published several articles about her training philosophies and nutrition, and is a fantastic promoter for KU basketball (and herself) doing clinics and whatever else she can do to educate people. Are any MAN trainers doing that in BB? Honest question. Lots of legendary football/track coach/trainers. Does being female give her an advantage somehow? LOL. I doubt it, unless players don't like getting their asses kicked by a woman.

Anyone following another (or third) college team closely can easily see the difference in physical development from first year to junior/senior year physically compared to KU's players.

My Mizzou fan inlaws seem to think their Tigers are going to win it all this year.

A modest proposal β€’ May 22, 2017 08:05 PM

justanotherfan said:

That could turn the final few minutes into a slog anyway, just because it would emphasize defense first from the team that's behind.

And yet, no matter how great the defense effort from the team trying to come from behind, the game could never end on a defensive play (block, steal etc.) it would have to end on a made basket.

A modest proposal β€’ May 22, 2017 07:41 PM

@wissox

wonder if we would have won the 2008 championship with this rule

or the final Mizzou game

Maybe we would have won a few others, but it seems like a really terrible idea to me. Coaches are already throwing in the towel earlier than in the past unless it's a do or die game or any game leading into KU's game on Big Monday.

Who are the blue blood teams to you? β€’ May 18, 2017 02:02 AM

@mayjay Groza... not exactly a household name, but a fantastic representative of Kentucky BB tradition. LOL

Who are the blue blood teams to you? β€’ May 18, 2017 02:00 AM

I ALSO think a measure of true blue bloods is that they are the teams opponents circle on their schedule as their biggest game of the year.... year after year after year. Decade after decade. Beyond regional rivals. Opponents don't ask, "are they any good this year?" because they always are good, and even in a down year it just increases the pressure on those opponents to try to steal a rare win.

UK, KU, NC, Duke, UCLA and Indiana

ALSO ALSO... Sad to say, true basketball blue blood schools can't have a consistent powerhouse football program. North Carolina/Duke and Kentucky are far enough north to not have the full-blown "god, guns and football" SEC mentality (I'm getting into @jaybate-1-0 territory!), so those schools were environments to excel in hoops. IU was always in Notre Dame's football shadow. UCLA up and down in USC's football shadow. Kansas was sandwiched between OU and Nebraska football for decades (add to KU the Naismith tradition and it was a prime hoops environment).

Who are the blue blood teams to you? β€’ May 16, 2017 04:20 PM

@Lulufulu

TRUE BLUE:
Kentucky,
North Carolina,
Kansas,
Duke

Faded Denim:
UCLA,
Indiana

Aqua:
UConn,
Louisville,
Michigan State,
Syracuse

Duke is the tough one, IMO. Only one great coach, but the program has 2000+ wins (20 coaches!) and were NCAA runner-up twice ('64 and '78) prior to coach K. They get contact cred from being near UNC and having that rivalry. They also deserve some credit for preserving tradition with Cameron Indoor. Dedicated fans. I'll break my own rule and call them true blue.

I was also thinking that to be a blue blood, the school should have had at least one legendary player. (Wilt, Kareem, Jordan, Magic, etc.) Oddly enough, Kentucky doesn't really have a household name kind of player in their history.

Who are the blue blood teams to you? β€’ May 15, 2017 07:25 PM

To be a blue blood program, the success of the program has to extend beyond the tenure of a single coach.

(in my opinion)
