I'm thinking the Ball family is in for a rude awakening. Not surprised though that the Lakers rolled the dice. That organization is in shambles. However LeBron may be in the mix? Love or Hate LeBron he's a game changer. I guess the question would be who does LeBron get to come with him? It appears the Knicks are tired of Carmello? A maybe? Actually think Carmello would benefit from playing with LeBron. Yet there has to be a third piece? That's how LeBron works.
Um it wasn't several male athletes? Come on man. Don't try to gloss over the facts of the case.
Well in my up bringing I've seen women that would rattle your teeth. Hey I'm not condoning violence against women. Yet trying to paint JJ as a women beater is weak. He kicked a car door. Geez dude.
OK so McDonalds says hey you're prefect for a commercial we want to do. Sign on the dotted line and you get 10 million dollars and $20,000 dollars for every time the commercial is aired. You're going to be like what about the teachers, police officers, and fire fighters?
Really?
No, not all. That's not what I'm saying at all. A crime is a crime, and the punishment should be handed out per the crime.
However perception's are more like opinions. In that you base them off what you know, what you have experienced. For instance you and few others are in the mind set that what JJ did was abnormal for a kid, while I'll contest this behavior isn't that farfetched and in some places upheld.
The prism for which we look through often creates the perception we believe to be the truth. Our surroundings and up bringing have major contributions to how we view and interact with our society.
Understand that JJ's friend was yelled and mocked in a bar. A drink was thrown in his friends face. This same female had caused Vick trouble before. Oh something was going to happen.
Now is the justification? Yes and No. Yes because were JJ comes from he showed Vick that he was his boy. No because it is indeed breaking the law.
Really my point was JJ's actions or reaction isn't that abnormal for a kid/young man. It all just depends on your perception.
Yet Wade and Chalmers great as they may be. Lebron was a proven superstar. He left the team that drafted him and brought Bosh with him.
Is that any different than what Durant did? I mean the warriors were already stacked. Yet Durant made them a super team.
Also lets be fair Wade was drafted by the Heat. And adding Lebron and Bosh wasn't like a building project. This was Lebron making a super team. Wade is good but he's no Lebron. Just like the Boston point you brought up. Yet PP was the super star and the drafted player of Boston. I believe an argument can be made they built around PP.
Well played, Well played. :basketball_player_tone4:
It goes back to the point that had my head spinning. What is a super team? Is a super team one that is built around a super star? Or is a super team when a proven super star leaves to make a super team?
In my thinking Lebron opened this Pandora box of a super team.
Yea but Wasn't PP drafted by Boston? So they actually built around a super star?
Just asking.
My only rebuttal would be is they failed in their attempt. Yet It's a solid point you make that they tried.
This might be a short topic. :bath_tone2:
I'm not an NBA guy, but I do watch here and there, have my whole life. I was listening to a radio show and this subject came up. One of the hosts said define what a super team is. He claimed that super teams have always been around. Mentioning Boston, Lakers, and Bulls.
This got me to thinking. What is a super team by today's standards? True Boston was a super team back in the day. The Bulls won six titles so are they are a super team? The Lakers have to be a super team? Yet we have to define what a super team is?
Here is my thoughts on the subject. A super team is when a proven super star leaves his current team to create a an unbeatable team. I mean think about it? Did Jordan leave the Bulls? Did Majic leave the Lakers? Did Kobe leave the Lakers? Did Bird leave Boston? The answer is no. Those teams were created with a super star in place. Yet the Heat, the Warriors, and the Cavs were put together.
I know the Warriors were damn good before Durant. Yet when they added him a proven super star. It made them a super team, and yes I think Lebron started this.
So what do you think?
I love your posts but with this one. I think you stepped on the out of bounds line. You mention kids doing wrong and what JJ was far beyond what normal kids do.
Hell my friend I'm an adult and I've done things I regret. Believe me they were far worse than what JJ did.
Hell man head up to strawberry hill across from downtown KC and tell me those kids are going to act like those kids from say Shawnee KC. Have the same dreams? Have the same support? Have the same chances to better their lives?
Life isn't fair my man We just play the cards we are dealt. Wrong or Right. Some are born with silver spoons, and some of us born with only the desire to survive.
I would bring up points but what is the point? Keep being you and I will keep shaking my head.
See you at the net cutting of the National Championship. I'll be celebrating how great KU is, and you'll be nowhere to be found.
After this draft and next year of NBA a few people are going to want their money back on the Big Baller Brand shoes?
In my house they won't hear the gun being loaded. Trust me they are already loaded.
In my house I don't have to even have my gun or guns. My wife makes sure hers is locked and ready to rock.
God I love that woman.
I just can't believe Coach and KU got the best of Durant. Man dude can just flat out play.
As for the King LeBron? I can't imagine the pressure that was placed at his feet. When he made his move to the NBA. In all respects he might deserve a lot of love. Yet as a causal fan of the NBA, meaning I really have no team I follow. I just don't like LeBron. Maybe it's his greatness and my love of the so called underdog. I don't know? Crazy as it seems I knew the Warriors were the far better team and the favorites. Yet I took great joy in watching the Cavs and LeBron losing.
I just did.
No worries my friends. Frank is going to make money playing basketball. The kid is a warrior in the paint. In fact he's perfected the art of going into the paint. He'll pay his dues but he'll get paid his dues.
Going on out on a limb? He might be the best in the world at finishing at the rim. He's sic..
I disagree. Sure last years back court will be almost impossible to beat. Yet last years team had no front court. This year team may fall short in the back court but should still be pretty damn good. However this years team has great potential in the front court. In fact it might be great?
I'll share what I'm drinking, but I'm going to charge ya. If you can prove you are indeed a true KU fan, and just have an Eeyore personality. Then I'll let you drink for free. Yet I reserve the right to pin the tail where ever I want.
To tell you the truth not sure why your not more upset with the dismal Yankee baseball of here lately? After all they have more money than anybody else. They have all the chips and yet they can't make the playoffs?
You're kind of like that rich guy coming around flaunting his riches. Letting you know he's better than you. Never heard one Royals fan say, "hey we are the Yankees".
I don't doubt your Yankees fandom. Not sure why you feel the need to attack Royals fans. Nobody attacked your Yankees? Are you that type of fan that feels the need to put other fans in their place?
There is not a Royals fan that doesn't know the Yankees place in MLB. Which is number 1. So what is your point? Yes the Yankees are better than the Royals. Is that what you want to hear? OK. The Yankees are the best ever and will continue to be so. Now go away and leave us lowly Royal fans alone. Let us small market fans and team enjoy what little success when it comes. Geez dude.
There is no rivalry between the Yankees and the Royals. That died with Kauffman. He had the personal money to play with Yankees. Yet at one time the Royals and Yankees games were one of the best. Don't take my word for it. Take your New York love for it.
The Yankees should win and win. Hell they got more money than everybody else. When they need a pitcher they go buy one. If they need a hitter they go buy one.
The Yankees fan bragging about winning is like some guy bragging to his buddies I got a job and take care of my kids. Hello the Guy is supposed to work and the Yankees are supposed to win.
BTW I would go easy on Royals fans if I were you. They are actually some of the best fans in the country. When MLB had the All star game a few years back. Baseball it's self was amazed at the passion Kansas City fans had for MLB. Also try to keep in mind you as a Yankee fan have never had to endure an owner that didn't care about winning. You had to never endure a decade of losing baseball, let alone 30 years of it. You never had to root for a turd year after year.
So go easy on Royals fans.
This might be Coach's best team ever. No really.
First you have Graham that took a back seat last year to Mason and JJ. Well not this year. Um the kid can play.
Vick and Svi battled all last year. Come on, Vick showed flashes of being JJ last year. Svi is so close to greatness, we can all taste it.
Newman was considered a OAD. Things didn't work out. It happens. Yet now he has a year under Coach with the same talent that projected him a OAD.
Dare I mention Coach has some bodies in the paint this year to help Udoka? (not sure he needs any)
If I wasn't a KU fan I would be scared. Udoka is scary good. Kid was catching on quick before he got hurt. Are you kidding me?
I don't always drink but when I do it's a beer in one hand KU basketball on the tube. Stay thirsty my friends, as I think this up coming season is going to quench our thirsts.
Either way no matter it's intentions it does give the American people in less populated areas a chance to hear their voices. Take it a way and Hillary is your president. Even though all she really won was New York and California.
No I hear what your posting. Just don't see how you can make it work. I just don't like a select few deciding who is presidential and who isn't. I mean we have already have been getting that from the two party system we already have.
That's why I like Trump so much. He pisses everybody off. Yet he does make sense. Take the Paris Accord back lash. Any other two bit Dem or Rep would just sign off. Yet the reality any body with a half a brain and cares for the US would wouldn't purge the Americans into such a one sided deal.
See that is the point. Everybody thinks the system is flawed when the election doesn't go their way. That is the nature of it. As for Trump it was no different with Obama. Some actually believed the guy could walk on water while others thought he could do nothing right. It is politics.
For the sake of the conversation and the point you were making. How are you going to change the election process? Who gets to decide if this person or that person is worthy to run for president? To be honest that kind of talk scares me. I have no illusions that our election process has flaws. Yet it does give a voice to the people. Also the electoral college helps those people in fly over country have a voice. Take that away and California and New York get to decide who the president is every election. I'm not interested in that. Been to both places. Nice to visit have no desire to live there.
Hey you can hate Trump as much as you want, just don't be surprised that some think he's exactly what this country needs. You see what you view as presidential another might see just another politician. This is the problem I have with your views on the election process. Our country is $20 trillion dollars in debt, and a big chunk of this was done under Obama. However Obama is considered the most presidential president we've ever had. Just because someone can be presidential doesn't mean they'll be a good president.
Elon Musk? Really. This dude lives off tax payers. OH he's smart he learned how to tap into the tax payer piggy bank. Just like Al Gore he's so far invested in green energy. It's no wander he's the speaking head for Global warming.
Not trying be rude but I bet you're pissed that Trump backed out of the Paris Accord? Yet why not tell the average American how many jobs they are going to lose? Tell them how much their taxes will go up to pay for the Paris Accord? Tell them how China and India can keep polluting under the Paris Accord? Tell them how China and India are going to receive US tax payer money while they continue to pollute? Tell them how if every country abides by the Paris Agreement the world temperature would only go down by 2 tenths of a degree? (so the experts say) Tell them how Obama never took this agreement to the House and Senate? Sorry I'm assuming your position.
It's politics. It only matters what side of the aisle your on.
Sorry if I'm being rude. I don't mean to be. Just I find this talk only comes around when there is a so called Rep president. Nobody was talking like this when Obama was president. Yet he ruined so many American families abilities to make money. Like I said you don't see Obama down in the hood preaching hope. Nah he's demanding $400,000 for each speech.
Why not elect the Rich? They already have all the money they need, and have shown they can rise to the top. They have nothing to gain financially. Yet they might want to take their skills and do something great. To many groomed politicians come into power with little money and leave rich. How does that happen? Their making deals to pad their pockets that's how.
Nah hate Trump if you must and if you want. I'm down with the boy.
If you want change as you speak. Then you have to rock the boat. Like him or not Trump is rocking the boat.
Politics are always a tricky business. However the reality is. The Best people for the job never get elected, and they never will.
Crazy as it seems and flies in the face of democracy. As along as average Americans get to vote the best person will never be elected. Americans want to be inspired by a future president. They want to be connected to that said person. American voters can be very fickle.
Take Bush Jr. for example. After 9/11 happened he had full support to go into Iraq and start a war. That changed when Americans became weary of the war. Democrats sensing blood in the water changed their position over night. All at seizing power in the next election. This is politics and it won't change because of the things I mentioned earlier.
I do like Trump, just like I would like a Bill Gates or Warren Buffet. We have been electing groomed politicians/lawyers for decades. It's not working. If at the bare minimum he shakes things up I'm happy. You might say that Trump isn't fit and I might say he's just what we need? So who is wrong and who is right?
I didn't care much for Obama not because he was black or a Dem. I just felt he lacked real experience and didn't care much for his anti American views. Yet some felt he was exactly what this country needed and even felt he could do no wrong. So who is right or wrong?
And this is kind of my rebuttal which I think you're right. Is that if your not one of the chosen by the party, can't give a great speech, don't have charisma, and the media doesn't like you. That person has no chance of winning even though they maybe perfect for the Job.
Tell you the truth I would vote for Oprah at this point, as long as it's not a chosen, silver tongued, groomed politician. Hate or love Trump he got elected because the American people want change. Bottom line.
LIke I said earlier I agree with your points can't argue them. However to become president you have to be elected, and as long as there are elections. The games will be played.
Not picking on you. Yet a groomed and professional politician versus a multi billionaire? I'm taking the billionaire. Many of groomed and professional politicians have led many of young Americans to war and Death. Don't need to be a groomed and professional politician to do that. Just have to look at the popular polls.
Look I get it everybody loves that person that can give a great speech. Yet what does a good speech do if nothing changes? All I see is the politicians getting richer and the promises they make going unfulfilled. Look at Bernie he promises a fair and socialist type government. Yet the dude owns 3 houses and is a millionaire. Now how is that possible from a person that has never worked a non government job in his life? Where did that money come from? Yet somehow he cares?
Look at the Great Obama? He railed against the rich and wall street. Now look what he's doing. Giving speeches at $400,000 a pop to the same people he railed against. Don't see him down in the inner city giving speeches of hope. Do ya? Yet somehow he cares?
Nah keep those groomed and professional politicians/lawyers. Give me a billionaire that actually knows what a budget is. Hey you don't like Trump then give me those libs Bill Gates or Warren Buffet. Hell I'll vote them. Just don't give me anymore groomed and professional politicians. I've heard enough good speeches. I want some substance.
Screw Nike. Nike is what is wrong with the world. They use child labor to make their shoes and then price gouge it's market buyers.
It's time for Nike to go away. It's killing College basketball all for greed. They have no love for the game, just the bottom line.
To be honest as a KU fan I just never felt that. I always looked at MU as somebody we had to play. Never seen them as a rivalry. I know history says it was so. I just never seen it that way. Just seen MU as another school trying to bank off playing KU.
A good rivalry demands a certain amount of respect between those two schools or teams. I never seen that in the MU and KU so called rivalry. In fact MU comes across as very racist and and and just bad.
That's just me.
I couldn't agree more. What does KU really gain by playing MU? I'm confused why so many think KU is obligated to play MU because of the long history between the two schools. Like somehow KU is acting butt hurt for not playing MU? I kind of feel KU and MU have played so long because they had too. You know being in the same conference. Hell I'm one of those that is glad that MU left.
MU did me a favor by leaving. The way I see it. MU and it's fans lived off the rivalry between KU to stay relevant in the Kansas City market. As usually and par for the course MU thought they were bigger than they really are. They thought they owned the St. louis market and Kansas City market. Their the ones that believed they were the cats meow when the SEC came calling. They believed they were the big dogs of the college world. They just didn't realize they gave up their virginity to the two bit suit SEC. The SEC used MU like a the fat wall flower with a rich daddy.
Here is the reality folks "Don't blame KU for not wanting to play MU" News flash nobody wants to play MU.
There is nothing to be gained. In many ways KU kept MU legit in their own backyard. Why should KU extend that hand again?
Doesn't make sense to me.
Who is MU ???
I don't see a lot of banging anymore. I'm not saying I like it. Just acknowledging what I'm seeing.
A four has to dribble and hit the spot three, and a five has to block everything.
You're right the rules may have changed how the game is being played.
I'm actually sad to see Colby leave. I feel us KU fans are being cheated with what Coach could do with him. However Coaching is a job and Coach has a job. He has to do what he thinks he has to do.
Basketball always has changes. It's the only think we can count on. Just glad Coach is leading KU into the new changes.
Very well said and laid out. Nice post.
I'm not so sure on the grades theory. I really think Coach is changing his approach.
Lets be honest Muscle ball is great in the regular season, not so much in the tournament. When was the last great Muscle Ball champion? It just doesn't play out like that anymore. The game is changing, and Coach is taking notice.
Sometimes the college game effects the NBA and sometimes the NBA effects the college game. At this point in history I think the NBA is effecting the college game.
The Three point shot and guard play are becoming king.
To many bigs coming out today can step out and play in the air force game. You can't bruise a four when they can't beat you off the dribble and pull up for the spot three.
The game is changing.
This may be the death of Muscle ball as we see it? Go back 5 years and I'm not sure Coach lets Colby leave. Was last year the beginning of a new dawn of KU basketball?
@globaljaybird :bowtie:
I think that kind of happened? Glass made his money in Walmart, and he ran the Royals like that forever.
I'm not bashing the Glass family. I just think it's time. K's wishes was that a local KC ownership would happen. Bash The Cerner Corp all you want, but man Sporting KC has become big league. I think they would be great for the Royals. Yes they know how to make money, but they do care about Kansas City.
What if @jaybate-1-0 is right? What if the shoe companies are affecting recruiting? So he made an error in what teams play in what conferences? The point still has value. Something is going on? KU at the very least is #4 in hoops schools, yet we are getting slaughtered in the top talent declaring. Kentucky can not win their Conference and lose in the first round and still have the #1 class the next year. Duke is pulling some serious talent even though they claim as the hardest school to get into. UNC is just picking and choosing, as I think Old Roy does care. So what gives?
I think it's time the Royals are sold to a local group known as the Cerner Corporation. They are interested. After all it was founder K's wishes. To bad he left it to the Glass family to carry out his wishes.
Not bashing on the Glass family just saying it's time.

What do you want me to say?
All I can say when it comes to the Wilt and UNC downer. Is one Wilt took that loss very badly. When his number was retired he really felt he let KU and it's fans down. And two thank God they changed the rules and brought about a shot clock.
I don't know if it makes a difference, buuuuuuuuut. In Wilt's time he had to play the JV team when he first came to KU. Also when Wilt and KU lost that Championship game there was no shot clock. So old Tar Heels dribbled down the ball and held on to it until the game was over. Am I wrong?
He may very well be a punk. In fact he may very well implode as you seem to project. Yet this is why I'm thankful we are a country of laws. So people like you and I don't get to decide if somebody gets a second chance or not. Again I'm not defending Mixon, not even saying he deserves a second a chance. Just saying he has done his time, and the court system arrested both he and the woman he punched. If the Bengals want to take a chance on him, then let the risk be with them.
My biggest concern is us fans and persons in general are/were trying to push the NFL to change it's process and hand out punishment for a crime we deemed as unacceptable. That is dangerous water and worthy of a conversation.
I'm not trying to be rude, yet it's comments like yours that just make me not want to even participate in exchanging views on the subject. I mean, I mention the guy is black and the so called victim is white a fact mind you. Yet somehow I'm making it about race? Did I say he should be excused because he was Black? Did I say he should be excused because she was white? Really?
I know you're intentions mean well. However it's a reality, the world is filled with all different kinds of skin colors and cultures. To try and ignore that, and then paint one board brush stroke for everybody is, well racist. I said, "I might be tempted myself" because I researched the situation and accepted a long time ago I'm not a prefect person. You know when I made that comment, racism never crossed my mind. I was just looking at it from an objected point view, and trying to pound out the facts on my key board.
Yet for your sake lets say the victim/woman never called Mixon a Nigger and I never displayed the derogatory term in my original post? Sorry I would still be tempted if a woman of any color from anywhere in the world spit on me. Plan and simple. Not saying I would, just saying I would be tempted. Maybe you're cool with somebody spitting on you? or maybe if somebody spits on you and you think your superior to them physical you just turn the other cheek?
Sorry I'm not that person. Hell I might even be tempted into getting my belt out of the house and give somebody else's kid an fashioned spanking for spitting on me. I think it's great that you'll never hit a women for anything, That you don't have that "push button to piss off" must of us humans have. You're a lot better person than I.
Yet he goes to UNC and recruits the east coast and wins three championships, and that doesn't faze you?
Think about this? If when Roy was at KU and he only recruited the west coast and Midwest yet came so close to winning the big prize. Yet when he goes to UNC he recruits the east coast and wins that coveted prize.
I'm sorry I feel short changed of what Roy Could have been. I'm not taking away from what he did do at KU. Just saying it appears it could've been a whole lot more.
I'm pretty sure I didn't make this a race thing. I just merely understand if a white woman spit on me called me a nigger and slapped me that I too would be tempted. Not saying I would. Just saying I would be tempted.
I'm sorry we disagree. I just think the kid served his time and deserves a second chance. I get it you want to punish him back into the stone age for one mishap.
I agree he was wrong for what he did? Geez does anybody read one's post before responding? I said like 3 times I don't condone what he did.
You acting like you're on some crusade proves my very point. Don't move the line ??? Yea go back and read.
You may think this kid should pay the ultimate price, however I don't. Are we not a society of second chances? Maybe you're the one making a racist argument ??? Because he was black and she was white. I merely pointed out facts, and how I would feel. If you don't like that then maybe social media isn't the place for you ???
Don't paint me into a corner, especially if your not going to read everything I said.
I'm cool with a good argument or differences of opinion. Just don't label me if you're not going to give me the respect to read what I actually posted.
Yea but the question is did he do everything in his power to make KU great and win a championship?
Sure he did some fine things at KU, yet did he not dare cross that UNC line? Thereby hindering the greatness KU could've had under his leadership.
Roy is a hellva coach. Numbers don't lie. Yet again did he leave something in the tank as to not get sideways with UNC?
As a KU fan and a lover of the Jayhawk I'm starting to feel a little cheated.
Hey I didn't start this topic merely responded to it.
Please try to remember I posted many times I don't condone what this kid did. We can agree on that point. Just saying if I was a young black man I think I would be tempted too. Every person has a limit. I don't care who you are.
I do disagree with you on the thought a woman can't hurt a man. I've seen some women that would rattle your teeth if they decided to strike. However that's not my point.
The point is we are a society of second chances. Whether you like this kid or not it doesn't matter. If someone or team in this case is willing to take a chance on this kid then so be it. However this talk of punishing this kid, when he has already did his time?? Well come on. That's all I'm saying.
Ah man so many ways to go with this one?
First lets remember Kids watch the NFL draft. What ESPN did was uncalled for. I get Violence and Bad news brings in the paying Viewers. Yet is was in bad taste. It was pointless to show the video and merely showed how ESPN has become political correct and trying to make points instead of just reporting.
Second. Look I'm not going to defend this kid in what he did. I'm old school and believes a man should never strike a women. Yet this isn't my world anymore. Plus there is a lot more to this story than is being told. This woman he knocked out and broke four bones in her face. Spit on him, called him a nigger, and slapped him. I once beat a man half to death for spitting on me at a poker game. Being spit on is a sure fire way of pissing someone off. Look I'm not condoning what Joe Mixon did. I'm not a young black man but if I was I think I might be tempted myself. Remember this woman was charged too.
However that isn't the point. So many are calling and saying he should be punished by the NFL, and not even be drafted at all. I'm not on board with that all. Did the kid make a mistake? Sure he did, a big one. Yet we are a society of second chances. If the kid is bad news trust me, we will all known including the Bengals. Yet talking about sending the this kid and society a message for his crimes for something he has already served? Not a good idea. The kid was suspended for year of college ball for those of you that didn't know.
Look I get the media wants to jump on stories, yet trying to hang the atrocities of our society on this kid? No not cool in anyway. This society was here long before this kid was even born.
And even worse you deny this kid who has did his time, only makes things. worse. Sure us old timers will stick to the code, "A man doesn't hit a women" as the worst crime ever. However if you and the NFL set a precedent of punishing these would be Mixon's for their abuse? Then were does the line go to next? Think about it. If you paint this as the worst crime a football player can do and punish him accordingly. What's next. Hey if you move that line trust me it will be moved again. Then what? So if you get arrested for DUI the NFL should punish you? If you get caught stealing something the NFL should punish you? If you get caught cheating on your grades the NFL should punish you? I know you don't believe me, yet trust me if you move that line of what is acceptable for punishment, then that line will be moved again, and again, and again. It all just depends on the flavor of the society. Mob rules.
I'm not defending this kid. I'm defending the process. If a kid does wrong and a team wants to take chance on them then let it be. Just don't move that line, or one day you'll wake up to watch a NFL game full of choir boys. Actually no you won't, but you'll tell stories about how the game of football was once a modern day of gladiators. Then you will complain about having no sports where men can be men.
Well unless you like Hockey?
All I know is Old Roy had no problem recruiting anywhere and everywhere after he left KU and took the UNC job. Hell he even continued to tap into his Iowa Connection after he left KU. The more this topic goes on? The more I'm not so sure Old Roy was a Blessing? You know show a little love to the Master's old school but yet remain loyal to the master and the Tar Heels.
Too many variables at play to guess. Coach is still only 54. If he coached just another 10 years that would make him only 64. A lot can change in a decade or more. I would figure that UNC, Duke, and Kentucky will have their new coaches in place by the time Coach hangs up the clip board. Yet for the sake of the topic I'll throw out Tarik Black, especially after he comes back to Coach and KU to cut his teeth in coaching.
