Really big downside of having games in swing states. Campaign ads during games 🤢

Everything we want this year is still out there for us. LFG

Special teams!

Nice stop!

Nice long drives too. The runs will be there later when we wear them down in the heat

JD looks much sharper. Really like the gameplan so far.

@benshawks08 said in Basketball Season:

I'm going to go out on a limb and state my concern that Hunter just isn't the kind of player a winning team can be built around. I know that sounds crazy, but based off of what I saw last year, that's my biggest concern. He takes up a lot of space on the offensive end, and while he scores fairly regularly, there was maybe 1 or 2 games he really took over and dominated and I feel like they were all early on. He puts up numbers, but is he actually making winning plays? Is he a leader that makes a team better than the sum of its parts?

Say what you want about big Dave. He was a clearly flawed player his entire time at Kansas, but his energy and leadership did contribute to a culture of a team that overachieved. I'm not sure Hunter has that. Hope I'm wrong. Culture and interpersonal dynamics of a team really matter and I worry about this years team being.... Soft. And a lot of that starts with your "best player." So either someone else steps up as a leader or we may struggle to win the conference again this year despite the influx of "talent."

I think Hunter can be an elite #2 option on offense, and my sense is things will trend that direction as we go. At bare minimum he'll have 2-3 guys around him who can fill it up (Storr, Griffen, Zeke). So we won't need him to play the almost career high and minutes and take a career high in shots this year.

@nuleafjhawk yeah it's sure a good thing Wilt never got paid otherwise what a disaster that would've been https://www.latimes.com/archives/la-xpm-1985-10-18-sp-13550-story.html#:~:text=Sports-,Wilt%20Chamberlain%20Says%20Boosters%20Paid%20Him%20to,for%20Kansas%20in%20the%201950s&text=Wilt%20Chamberlain%20says%20he%20was,payments%20to%20today's%20college%20athletes. ↗

Pretty spiffy, KU back over 30,000 students with another record freshman class. Everyone else seems to have stopped the bleeding for the most part but KU and WSU are really the only universities growing. https://www.kansasregents.org/resources/PDF/Press/Fall_2024_Preliminary_Census_Day_Tables.pdf ↗

I’m all for turning down the temperature. At one point I had to have a silent alarm installed on my desk because of death threats to our staff. Venting is fine, whatever, but don’t say anything your momma would scold you for

The JD Redemption Story • Sep 30, 2024 01:11 AM

@Kcmatt7 I agree with pretty much all that. I did think the playcalling was much better this week. Grimes leaned into the RPO game and stuck with the run for the most part. Best of all I don’t think he called a single bubble screen lol.

The Big 12 isn’t any good at this football thing

The JD Redemption Story • Sep 29, 2024 03:41 AM

@Kcmatt7 man it’s gonna be you and me out there lol

Andy K • Sep 29, 2024 03:19 AM

@dylans yeah but that’s not what you said at all. The receivers had literally nothing to do with Andy leaving. He left because Penn State OC is his best path to becoming a head coach. Then you said I thought the WRs had a hand in running him off. Which is entirely false.

The JD Redemption Story • Sep 29, 2024 03:01 AM

@Kcmatt7 we are a fickle people, us KU football fans. It’s funny, who do they think we can get after paying $40m or whatever in buyouts?

Andy K • Sep 29, 2024 02:12 AM

@kuballin10 I’m sorry but what you heard was wrong. The receivers were livid about their usage last year. Sure you can retcon and say how dumb they look now but that was 100% the case last December. Don’t just take my word for it, Swain and Jon Kirby reported the same. It was a horribly kept secret

Andy K • Sep 29, 2024 01:33 AM

@dylans no, I didn’t say that at all. I know reading is difficult for you so I’ll put it in mostly one syllable words.

All of Grimm, Arnold, and Q had offers to make more dough and catch more balls from schools and they would have left had K not left for Penn State

The JD Redemption Story • Sep 29, 2024 01:14 AM

@kjayhawks and that is to say I believe Jeff Grimes has called his last play at Kansas

The JD Redemption Story • Sep 29, 2024 12:36 AM

@kjayhawks your signature is prescient

Not a lot of good to take away from this one. Onto Tempe

Defense looks gassed

Another brutal no call too

Skinner still should've caught that one.

Yes, hence the “too”

Another brutal no call too

I’ve never seen Lance this pissed

Lmao at the block in the back literally right in front of the ref

Way to step up D

After last night and this I continue to have zero idea what a catch is. Do you have to take the ball home with you? Raise it as your own child? Send it to college?

That helps

Nice drive

DL has gotten a lot better in Q2

That’s very helpful

The give it to 4/9 offense is good

Holy no call

Had a feeling all week this was a get right game. This is a good matchup for us

Andy K • Sep 28, 2024 06:41 PM

@dylans yeah not like they all had bigger roles and NIL offered elsewhere because that would counter the narrative
