That is the type of stupid play im talking about by Billy. Not smart at all
@BShark Mitch is ok playing the four. Cant have him as the only big. Dok and Billy have to play smarter and not foul. Its just that simple.
@BShark they tend to do that when the lead is so big.
@KUSTEVE been pretty stagnant. bad fouls and bad passes really killed momentum. Stop those and put Garrett on Jackson and we will be fine.
I really like Garrett as a defender. Jackson all of a sudden isnt a world beater
@BShark put him on Jackson and they may not even make it to fifty. Dude looks good
@approxinfinity he also missed a lot of time with the injury. Makes a difference
@BShark especially when they play sloppy and silly.
Man some terrible, terrible passes too.
These last three minutes really, really suck
Man some bad calls to go with some stupid fouls.
Another bad call there in the paint
That psu player traveled before he scored.
@BShark I know. just like the energy
Our guards look fast
Billy went one on five and it didnt matter
What a play by Billy. Love it
@BShark we would be a huge matchup problem if we play small. Rebounding may be an issue. Zone may be effective just like last year at rupp.
I heard that baker was going to be out a while. They are still really long though. Had a close game against more head state - apparently more head spread the floor and UK had trouble matching up against their smaller players.
@BShark that I agree with. Tell them either Allen fieldhouse or Sprint center
@HighEliteMajor a lot of folks are scared of losing. WSU is a legit top ten team and has been top twenty five the last several seasons. No good reason not to play them anymore. Do we really gain recruits because we schedule a team in their area? I would like to hear stats and articles about this.
@dylans i think there could be something to that.
Even though those are just scrimmages, it demonstrates where we thought the league would be. Ish lost a bunch and it shows. No excuse for losing at Hilton or Gallagher this year. If we do, it will be more about us being bad than them being good.
@BShark yeah I mean, its UT Arlington. U. T. Arlington. And they lose by double digits. Thats not a good sign for them, IMO.
correction - Wainwright is gone. Lecomte, Acuil, McClure, Omot and Lindsey are still there.
@BShark Acuil is still there and maybe WainWright too. No Motley though which will be much easier for us. I think we sweep Failor again.
@BShark I think OU has a chance to be decent but not good enough to challenge us or anything. TCU will finish second or third, IMO. I thought Baylor would be better but I guess not. Is Lecomte still there?
@Crimsonorblue22 wvu will be but they lost a ton. Ahmad and Carter are still there but thats about it. ISU lost a ton also. Ive seen people predict four losses in conference but I would be very surprised if that happens. The league is weak.
@BShark and thats why you don't talk big before the season starts.
Yep Big 12 will be WAY down this year. We should win by three or four games and lose only once or twice.
@JayHawkFanToo outside of Billy, we did not have any significant foul trouble against players bigger, more athletic and more talented than anyone in Pitt states entire history. I will be surprised if this is under 20.
Staying out of foul trouble is not that tough. My band director in college would always say "play smart not stupid". Move your feet, don't reach, stay vertical and rotate. Do the fundamentals and we'll be fine.
@Crimsonorblue22 or get cox
Thanks
Yeah shooting could be a problem for them. Those numbers are pretty horrific. Who did they lose from last year?
@BShark wow that's bad. Weren't they a pretty good shooting team last year?
Sounds like Ferris state is a decent d2 team, but even then a team with expectations as high as Michigan State should have beat them by 20 or 30. Maybe they completely overlooked the game?
@BeddieKU23 bingo
@BShark yes but from what everyone was saying it sounded like he was Carlton Bragg 2.0. From the game Sunday, that does not appear to be the case, hence my skepticism.
I think its Pittsburgh state.
Yeah it sucks for some, but it won't affect me. That's life I guess.
The season hasn't even started yet. I'll wait to form any conclusions about what I see on the court.
@BShark yeah I know. Have you been able to locate a replay of the Missouri game? I've been checking but nothing so far
@jaybate-1.0 a lot of assumptions and ifs in that post.
I like HEM's solution and I think it is probable. We will see quite a bit of Dok and Billy together. Self is a traditional oriented coach and always wants to do his bread and butter first. If not for Bragg's antics, we would have been much more traditional last year. I personally prefer a traditional and taller lineup with a fast four/stretch four like Carolina had this past year and the year before.
What I am struggling with is why do so many think we need to choose between 3-2 and 4-1? If Dok and Billy are in together, we play traditional. When Dok sits, four out one in. To me, we have several options offensively to be effective so let's not over think this one. I doubt self is thinking "ok in case Dok gets hurt we'll do this" or something along those lines.
Btw, Self said yesterday that he expects more rebounding out of Svi and Vick. As was discussed on another thread, long rebounds necessitate the guards being engaged on rebounding the miss. We cant expect Dok to go all the way out to the free throw line extended and snag a rebound. It must be done by committee.
@jaybate-1.0 of which there are only two or three, and we already beat one and play the other on the 14th. The third is Louisville, but the odds of playing any one team in March is very low. I think they proved last year against Purdue and others that playing against size and winning isn't an issue like it used to be.
The real difficulty lies in defeating teams whose identity is physical defense (Nova, Michigan State, Oregon and WVU). Those are the teams Self has struggled against and those are the primary culprits for his tourney exits. Like I've said before, the game in Morgantown is an indicator of tourney success and that will be true this year too.
@Crimsonorblue22 impossible
Billy needs to start. Our offense is much more dynamic with him because he has a legit post game and outside shot, plus he's 6-10.
I have a feeling Dok is going to have a monster year. The injury really put him under the radar and no one talks about him. We need his second half performance every half.
@Crimsonorblue22 yes but Devonte is the only one who rebounded well (10 rebounds). All five need to be fully engaged for a rebound and not rely on just Dok to get them.
I did like the things Mitch did. He appears to have a knack for blocking shots. Last year when he came in it felt like he was a net negative, capable of making a play or two but gave up three or four baskets. I didn't notice that to the same degree on Sunday.
@chriz yeah, long shots equal long rebounds, which favors the offense. I mean, how many threes did Missouri shoot? 27? 30? It was a lot, for sure, and yet we were only outrebounded by four. Pretty amazing actually. We had the same problem against Oklahoma a couple years at Norman and all they did was shoot perimeter shots. If anything, it's the rebounding of our guards that needs to get better because those shots will land near the free throw line extended. It's tough for bigs to fight for position and rebound that far out.
I'm glad we didn't get Bolden and have Dok and Billy. Nuff said.
@Kcmatt7 he'll get better at not fouling as the season goes on. Can't believe no one else noticed his back to the basket repertoire. That sort of thing was non existent last year and now we have two guys that can do it. Again, I would much rather have this learning experience to point out weaknesses than against Kentucky.
