Buckets Dream • May 12, 2015 04:02 PM

Okay-not making this up but last night had a vivid dream. I was sitting on a dock at some lake and a 7 foot tall ( best guess he towered over me) kid with a baby face walks up. He is dressed ready to play, is holding a bBall with one hand against his hip. He looks about 16 years old-thin and needs a few years to develop a div 1 body. He is pasty white and needs to get out in the sun.
I ask him where is he looking to play in college. He rattles of a couple of colleges I've never heard of and then says maybe Arkansas or Nebraska-(I am thinking "not one blue blood" ) and I am about to give him a KU pitch but he walks off and says over his shoulder, " certainly not KenSucky"

This board is getting in to my dreams! I can't recall who on this board posts "KenSucky" on a regular basis but it stuck with me.

So you want a KU fix? • May 12, 2015 03:46 PM

@DoubleDD,
Thanks for posting. Seems like I saw a short version of this somewhere but really enjoyed the whole story.

Offseason is too long • May 12, 2015 12:28 AM

@wissoxfan83
Reminds me of summers in my grandparents cabin In Colorado. I was pre-teen and we'd be there a week or two with no TV or Radio.

Now and then I end up off the grid for days at a time-it is very relaxing and I always find I never missed anything significant.

Note to self-unplug more often.

Always loved Paul Pierce. One of the greats.

@drgnslayr
I wasn't saying you were wrong about the draft. I am only saying the war was winding down and the numbers they drafted dropped significantly.
That, and the fact I was in college I think meant they did not send me a notice.

I might add I am very patriotic and thought serving in the military was something I considered. After all my Grandfather. Was a decorated WWII vet (South Pacific Theatre) and pop was a Korean War Vet. He made it very clear he did NOT want me to join-one of his 5 rules.

Truth be told when 9-11 happened I was so fired up I considered it.
But then I was 45 years old and had two kids. I didn't even look into it as I was way past age wise and our minister made a good point most of us needed to continue to continue in our current roles to keep things moving as they had been.

He also said when the planes fly again get on them. And I made it a point to fly and fly often. I made it a point a point to make extra connections and be alert-and it was obvious many around me on the planes were very attentive and focused. I was flying out of LA airports and felt like I was on a program similar to WWII drives for tires, metal, victory gardens, etc.

Buckets Dream • May 09, 2015 03:00 PM

@drgnslayr
4 years older and my draft card was 1-H, but by then troops were leaving Vietnam so they weren't drafting in big numbers.

And happy bday.

Buckets Dream • May 09, 2015 02:57 PM

@VailHawk
I wasnt there. I was confused why my office was gone and all my stuff was tossed into a cubical with two other people.

Hooker hockey?

I'm at the Oil Technology Conference in Houston this week. (100,000 attend)-even with Oil from 45-56 USD in 2015.

My short answers is bBall shoe prices are based on the entertainment market just like tickets to events-even tickets to movie theaters, etc. etc.

this is the USA in 2015. Rock Stars are bigger than Warren Buffet, Steve Jobs, Koch boys, etc. Our culture values celebrity more than the old work ethic and worthy innovation.

@brooksmd
Now that is REAL APPRECIATION of a Jayhawk who did us very proud while he was here. Once the Lakers give him a much deserved contract they/the NBA should pay him handsomely to visit college players as well as AAU players of all ages (say a session at AAU tourneys) to show them the light.

Way to go Tarik and RCJH.

Tarik Black • May 05, 2015 01:31 AM

Very happy for him too. What a strong finish. I hope the Lakers reward him with a nice contract.

Love the song reference- but I am still in old fogey mode with a thumbs down and like I said-they aren't trying to sell these to my demographic.

Now my teenagers are a different story.

Brown KU Bound--batetradamus • May 01, 2015 04:14 AM

PHOF Just because you gave me such a big laugh-on my birthday.

Brown cuts Kansas from his list. :( • May 01, 2015 03:51 AM

Nope-but here is the story (sorry ladies disclaimer)

I noticed a blonde beauty (LA ten) in gold spandex walk into the First Class bathroom, and on the way out she was stopped and kissed by a man. It was Tom Petty.

He had been seated in the last row of first class just before the door shut-this was a plane where the door was in between first and coach.
A few cocktails later we descended and I went back, handed him the back of a card and pen and said. "If you don't mind I am a huge fan." She was grinning ear to ear as is she just won a bet. He hesitated, almost rolled his eyes and signed it.

I ran into a number of celebs in LA and here or there across the US. Never bothered any of them but I am guilty of this occasion and "The Admiral" David Robinson-again on a flight. He wrote his name and "Mathew 6:33".

Flew with Petty in first class once-"We don't have to live like a Refugee."

Andrew Wiggins New ROY Adidas shoes... • May 01, 2015 02:01 AM

Sorry. As much as I love AW these are far too loud and colorful for this old fogey...but then again I am not the demographic they are going after.

Do you remember Christmas? • Apr 30, 2015 02:56 PM

@JayHawkFanToo
Someone (maybe you) noted that once before. Sure made me a Hightower fan.

Good Kentucky stuff! • Apr 30, 2015 02:04 PM

@Crimsonorblue22
Good read.

Do you remember Christmas? • Apr 29, 2015 08:33 PM

Yes KD, I remember Christmas as a child and they were the best. Especially the year of the electric train.

I got to relive some of it when my kids were little.

And you are right on-signing these top kids has been a bit like that. I sure appreciate folks like you that keep us informed in the off-season. KU Buckets has really helped me on several levels.

ESPN picks KU to win 12 straight • Apr 28, 2015 07:47 PM

I don't think this is "cover worthy" so maybe we're okay.

Also, another ESPN reporter picked Iowa State.

I should clarify an ESPN reporter picked KU. Another picked ISU.

Mouth guards • Apr 27, 2015 04:18 PM

@Crimsonorblue22

Sounds like a good thing.

Although, they could put padding like some material like foam on the outside of the helmet right now and most likely reduce this problem at least 50%. I actually had a leather strip about 4" wide on my helmet in jr high. It kind of looked like a mohawk.

KC & Chitown Fight Nite • Apr 26, 2015 04:35 AM

@wissoxfan83
Some buddies and I started 'collecting stadiums" after college. Sometimes togetther -sometimes during biz trips alone. I will never forget going to see the White Sox playing in their new stadium and being so turned off by the concrete and blue paint of the metal rails.

The only other place I would rate uglier (That I saw first hand - 1980 -to 2000 visits) would be the Vet in Philly.

Sorry voyager. I meant the old vet was ugly-never saw the new vet- and the new white sox effort missed the mark.

PHOF

Cannibus, Minimus,,, or was that Maximus? I forget.

Okay, I will fess up. I don't smoke and was against it even as a pup simply because it was against the law.

I drink, but don't drink and drive-and don't drive and text which is becoming a huge problem. I see it every day on the roads in Houston.

I did drink and drive in my 20's and though I never had a wreck or get pulled over I was an idiot for doing it and yes, it was against the law as well. Back in the 80's our culture was pretty relaxed about that-much too relaxed

As Jerry would say, "NEWMAN"

That is awesome.

Why do I feel like that guy? • Apr 23, 2015 08:09 PM

Okay, I have to qualify my previous rant. This guy is actually making an effort to entertain.
It is anyone's option to put a value on it and put some $ in the bucket-or not. I have nothing against street performers unless they get in your face.

Mason • Apr 23, 2015 07:02 PM

@drgnslayr
That's quite a routine.

Mason • Apr 23, 2015 06:45 PM

@drgnslayr
KU med center tested us. Get in the pool, rub the air bubbles off your body and sit on the disk under water and empty your lungs. I was 6% and they said that's low as you can get for your events or you will lose performance (just as you said) actually I had to watch the weight all the time at KU. I much preferred carrying another 20 pounds and did from post college to 40 ish.

So beast- inquiring minds want to know?

Mason • Apr 23, 2015 01:09 AM

@drgnslayr
Okay Hulkster. I would like to hear your prime weight and height.

Put in in chat if you must , but your experiences peak my interest.

Mason • Apr 23, 2015 01:02 AM

@drgnslayr
I have a big nose and could pick up scents everywhere I trained, including the AFH dirt track. I can't find fault with your theory about the Pavlovian response however I just appreciated those days we had some of the nicer things.

@drgnslayr
That is pathetic. Some taxpayer should have punctured his tires on a regular basis. I am so fed up with free loaders who won't pull their own weight and then work the system -I found a year ago I have a relative doing this. I had a number of talks with them about it and finally lost it. I told them if you keep being part of the problem and instead of the solution we won't have contact anymore.

Mason • Apr 22, 2015 10:05 PM

At least we got to use the nice digs for the indoor season. A few months in warm AFH (dirt track back then) and the locker room at AFH was nicer too.

Mason • Apr 22, 2015 09:37 PM

Brings back memories of two weight rooms. The nice one at AFH annex (which is now upgraded to state of the art) and the grungy one under the steps at Memorial Stadium.

@RockChalkinTexas
GREAT PULL!

@JayHawkFanToo

Too bad I can't hook them up with Mr. Peabody and his Wayback Machine.

@JayHawkFanToo
I remember an episode of All in the Family where Meathead wanted to move to California and Archie said a similar line about fruits and nuts. He also said it was just a matter of time before they got too many of them and California would fall into the ocean. He was afraid if Meathead moved there with his daughter they would tip the scales to disaster.

@Crimsonorblue22
I was on sixth street after the KU bBall game and saw a kid with a sign that said "25 cents for a joke." My buddie was inside a bar using the bathroom and by the time he came out the kid was gone. I thought heck, I would have bought four for a dollar.

@JayHawkFanToo
In LA they did a bit on panhandlers-same thing, they had cars a few blocks away. One guy said, "I'm an out of work musician."
Right, and I'm an out of work comedian.

@tis4tim
I've done the very same thing at McDonalds I saw a guy digging in the trash and told him I'd buy him a meal-he said no thanks and kept digging.

Saw a guy digging at the same spot a few months later. I wonder if that's a drug stash?

@Crimsonorblue22
Sometimes you see a pay phone at a gas station on a busy corner here in Houston. A call is 50cents.

Not good news! • Apr 22, 2015 04:10 PM

As I understand it this family friend insults the boys mother and they get pissed. If they just go at him one at a time I would be fine with it. One on one fights happened now and then in our crowd to our mid 20's.
The problem is a patten of problems. And this time they ganged up on one guy-and to his credit he was trying to get away from them. . Add celebrity and money. Here comes the cops and robbers, er lawyers. (Ps-if someone here is a lawyer no malice-just humor.)

Which Jayhawk Will Improve the Least? • Apr 21, 2015 08:30 PM

@Crimsonorblue22
Yes she had them both done at once. I was thinking I could only handle one at a time.
I knew a guy with one bad knee and the other was okay. He told me the stress on the other knee during recovery was so bad he had to get the other done-kind of made be wonder if the first one wasn't done very well.

Not that it means anything.... • Apr 21, 2015 08:26 PM

@JayHawkFanToo
My best guess is something gross.

Which Jayhawk Will Improve the Least? • Apr 21, 2015 07:43 PM

@Crimsonorblue22
Right now I have two kids in high school and the activity level is off the charts.
He will be off to college in the fall and I was thinking maybe things would be easier to handle then or next year when the other one is gone to college. I will admit I am a bit nervous. My sister had both knees replaced last year and it was a LONG recovery.
