@Crimsonorblue22 My sweetie is a great cook. That roast looked just like a brisket when it was done. It just tastes amazing.
Did everybody get what they wanted for xmas? I wanted us to beat SDSU, so mission accomplished. I have about 5 lbs of the best pulled pork ever made, so I'll be in hog heaven for the foreseeable future. My team is 10-1, and we should be undefeated. My team is a dynamic scoring juggernaut, with great, amazing guard play. We're ranked 2nd in the nation. Still, we can be better...much much better...especially if we can somehow get our incredibly talented freshmen more into the flow of the game.
Hey, did anybody see "Tucky and Louie? We're going to beat Tucky's ass.
You can't finish a story with 2/3 of the story yet to come. The season is a process- not an event. I think this team transforms into a national contender that will have a very good shot of winning back to back championships the next two years. I say keep an open mind, and this team could end up better than any of us could imagine.
@dylans Lmao.
@JayHawkFanToo I hate Tarantino...but I LOVE that movie.
@jayballer54 I remember the Ted Owens years as well, which is why I keep saying our current team has nothing to worry about...lol.
Merry Xmas, everyone!!!! But, I'm repeating myself...
@jayballer54 BTW, I love your posts...they come straight from the love you have of the Jayhawks...
@Texas-Hawk-10 In a few weeks, we'll see how good OU's defense is, and then it will be settled. And you'll be wrong...lol.
OU caught Nova on a terrible night from 3, where they shot 4 for 32 from 3, which has helped OU's stats. The jury is still out whether they are some defensive juggernaut - I say they aren't.
@Texas-Hawk-10 You won't be saying that after we play them. We will score at will against them.
I've watched 3 or 4 OU games this year, and they look just like last year. They don't have the great defensive core, which always makes them beatable. Great offense....great transition ...beatable.
@joeloveshawks It's too bad we couldn't have him to add to our hybrid 5. He would be our beast....
@brooksmd just watching the game. we look good. our passing looks tremendous.
@MoonwalkMafia January 5th. Close enough for me.
Kentucky isn't the same when Ulis is out. At least, that's what their fans think,
They are going to be LOADED FOR BEAR. We better bring our A game:

@JayHawkFanToo UNI could be quite a challenge. I was very impressed with the Panthers in their game against the Clones.
...is a win over SDSU. Last year during xmas week...Temple 77...KU 52. The year before a few days after xmas....SDSU 61 KU 57. This is the game of the year for SDSU..it will be sold out.
@brooksmd HUBBA HUBBA ...
@KUSTEVE Hey, they played in Des Moines, not Hilton. Make sure you tell Granny, and Ellie-May.
@approxinfinity I'll go one better - I think we're better than what we're showing now.
@drgnslayr We spend 95% of our discussions on who is going to play the 5, when the real story is that adding Devonte to the starting lineup has electrified the team, made it run more efficiently, less turnovers, more steals, etc. The residual effect is that the game has slowed down for Wayne and Frank by leaps and bounds. Fewer and fewer drives to nowhere, less bad passes,etc. Excellent post....hammer, meet nail.
I was highly impressed watching N. Iowa take down the Clones. What a smart bb team on both offense and defense. It's not easy going into Hilton Jr. and the land of the lousy fan to pick up a win, but they handled it like champs. They have now knocked off UNC and the Clones. Geez, keep them out of our bracket...
@jaybate-1.0 We've been begging for 3 years for Perry to play the 3.
Had to work, so watched most of the replay. So, our new number 5 is....Carlton Bragg!!!! He fits in better than peas and carrotts, i tell ya.
@jaybate-1.0 His eyes were just wandering into space at times.
@jaybate-1.0 Trifecta Kama Sutra
LMAO!!!!!
@wrwlumpy I loved that movie as a kid.
@HighEliteMajor Do we need to get Bruce Weber to perform a fake funeral on the hi-lo? I think that he will learn a great lesson from all this, and be a better coach for it. Hopefully, it won't take as long the next time...lol.
@MackJayhawk Holy smokes ! You're an erupting fountain ! Welcome ! Hey, Hem and a few folks go at each other from time to time. Difference of opinion. That's what the board is for. They're all great people, though. I guarantee you this - I was ecstatic over our offense the last game, and I know HEM was, too.
@HighEliteMajor It certainly would answer several questions I've had about Hunter's usage.
@jaybate-1.0 "Withey wasn’t cool enough either for a long time.
Withey wasnt pretty.
Hunter is peculiar, as they used to say.
Therefore Hunter has to be quite a bit better to play."
I think you're on to something with this...makes sense to me.
@HighEliteMajor My conspiracy theory is that he doesn't play the Red Fury more because he is afraid he wouldn't be able to displace him with Diallo. He HAS to play Diallo ...he can't be another Cliff.
@wrwlumpy Kansas City.
@drgnslayr Basketball. Easy one for me.
@jaybate-1.0 Reading between the lines, Bo wanted Barry Alvarez to name Bo's top assistant Greg Gard as his replacement at the end of the year, and it seems he never got a commitment from Alvarez. So it appears that Bo is forcing the issue by retiring immediately, so Gard can be interim coach, and at least have a shot at being retained as HC.
@drgnslayr It was a typical fluff piece w/o in depth analysis. I posted it because this was a big change by Self, who always seems to get blamed for being stubborn and inflexible. I would speculate having such good ball handlers penetrating the lane opens up our 3 point shooting when defenses collapse on our guards.
Great stuff. I wanted to add in that Bo Ryan retired yesterday. What a great coach who ran a truly classy program.
@Second-Prize KU Basketball is a gift that keeps giving every year. This year, I think we go from nearly elite the past two years to elite. I also think this could be a record setting year for the Big 12. Practically the whole league is back, and watching Texas take out number #3 UNC, and OU flat curb stomp Nova, portends big things, imo. Faylor, the WV hillbillies, OU, the Clones, and Texas should all be NCAA bound. The conference will be quite a challenge, imo.
@BeddieKU23 I would add Xavier, Nike -D, and Nike-K to the list.
Recent BIA reports out of Nike World report this:
Nike D and K will both receive favorable treatment from the rules enforcement committee, along with the Nike approved refs, AND the seeding committee in order so the brand receives maximum television exposure. No 2nd round WSU #7 seeds for D or K. If at all possible, ensure Nike D receives at least two "nearly" home games, preferably in the first few rounds, where Coach Rat needs all the help he can get most years. Ensure instant qualification for all Nike-K players, including ones banned from high school bb for taking illegal benefits. The Squid gets the "skal" ( be careful what you wish for, Mildcat fans. Skal CAN'T BALL).
I think Bragg becomes vital to our success. At some point, Diallo makes his presence felt as well. We're on a two year title run at least ... we will win at least one, if not two national championships.
That 2nd half by Devonte. That was what I've been waiting to see. That's the Devonte I know. Just a tremendous competitor. We've seen signs and flashes so far, but that was the real deal in the 2nd half. You stack that Good Frank on top of Good Devonte on top of the good Selden and the good Perry, add some good Hunter, Bragg, and Diallo...you've got a recipe for a national championship.
Great post, Hem. I like the fact you like what you see. I do as well. I have reservations about simply running the Creighton style offense, and what we saw with our guards penetrating, dishing, etc. was a thing of beauty last night. Yes, we still can hit the three, but the whole offense was taking whatever they wanted in the 2nd half. KU fans, meet your core! I was freaking amazed to see Bragg at the 5. Holy Smokes, that kid can flat play.
UCLA beat Gonzaga last night on the Zags home court. This is a week after they curb stomped Kentucky. After we waxed the UCLANS, Alford said this about us:
“That’s a very, very good basketball team, definitely a top-five team in the country,” Alford said. “And if we play poorly in a 20-minute stretch against that, it’s gonna be hard on us. And that happened tonight.”
The star last night for UCLA was bigman Tony Parker, who scored 16 points on 8 of 9 shooting, said this about KU:
“Going in, we knew that they were a really, really good team defensively and that’s what they hang their hat on,” said UCLA big man Tony Parker, who finished 5-of-8 from the floor for 15 points and eight rebounds. “We had to get great shots to beat a team like that and we didn’t take good enough shots. And we didn’t get enough stops on the defensive end, with the way we were shooting, to even contend.”
I don’t think we’re anywhere close to being as good as we could be by the end of the year. Play that 2nd half a full game, stop blowing big leads, and we’re national champions. It’s all right there for us.
@AsadZ Enjoy the season. It will be special - I promise you.
Let me tell you a story of two universities, both with great traditions and history.
Kansas was literally fighting to get NCAA bids. We had .500 seasons. Kansas St was better than us; same with Misery. We had a brief respite where we actually won a rare national championship with Larry Brown ...but then he left. And they hired a rookie head basketball coach named Roy who did a phenomenal job as coach, and except for his chicken salad exit, saved our program. Him and Brown. And then Self comes along, and just starts winning every damn Big 12 conference title, wins a national championship...keeps us relevant on the national stage. So, three coaches ...Brown, Williams, and Self have truly, honestly saved our program from a far worse fate. A fate like this:
IU, on the other hand, lost Bobby Knight, and have been turning over coaches for years. Crean is currently 125-113, and they all hate his guts, and hope he gets fired. It will be a huge accomplishment if IU even makes the tournament, as they have looked plain awful on more than one occasion this year. They're going to have to pull the plug on Crean at some point, and start all over again.
I think it is relevant and important to understand what an amazing ride its been since Larry Brown first accepted the job. At the time, I couldn't believe we could get a coach like Larry Brown. So, maybe I'm saying I remember when we sucked, and we don't suck. I'm saying we're ranked 2nd in the freaking country- it's ok to crack a smile. Its ok to beat a bad team by 6-we still won. Enjoy this ...it is historical....
As an aside, I noticed Francamp was on the bench for WSU to begin their game today. So, he went from the Ku bench to the Wsu bench. At least his parents don't have to drive as far to watch him sit.
Rumors of our demise are greatly exaggerated. We are ranked number 2 in the nation...NUMBER 2 with a bullet!
@DoubleDD Notre Dame couldn't do it. Villanova couldn't either. Dook ran the perimeter offense for 9 consecutive years w/o a Final Four, including two straight first round NCAA losses. Then they got Okafur, changed their offense and won a title. Nova - 4 for 32 against OU from the 3. Blown out Just watch Iowa. they are the poster child for the 3 ball game...huge leads which turn to losses ( sound familiar?). I think there's more to the story than simply launching 3s...
