I was in shock when people were hoping Self would be fired. That was unbelievable.
@HighEliteMajor If we're having this same conversation in March, then there will be 10 threads just like yours. I get the frustration over the sop to Jamari, but I think Jaybate hit the nail on the head with the ego massaging. Last year, when he quit starting Jamari, Jamari pouted for weeks. Diallo, imo, will be the locked in starter by conference play.

@betterfireE UCLA handled them from tip off to final horn. We handled UCLA from tipoff to horn.
So, if we beat UCLA by 19, and they beat Kentucky by 10, then we would beat Kentucky by ...
What I've learned is that Vegas is much smarter than the average person. They had Kentucky favored by only 5.5 points, which I thought was ridiculously low.

@wissoxfan83 I'm seeing signs of an elite team being born. It's all there ...just some fine tuning, and repetitions. I think we have a great chance at having dominant teams the next two years with this crew.

Real good stuff. I caught a blurb from the announcers at one point in the Vandy/KU game where our 3 point % was twice as high as our 2 point %. I don't recall exactly where that was at game wise, but alarm bells went off a bit ...so the same thought has been rolling around my noggin, too. Diallo, come quickly.

I am practically giddy over Diallo playing tonight. it somewhat makes up for the $400 car repair bill i got stuck with this morning. It's after 2PM Eastern and it's still not ready, so I guess work is out today, and Diallo watching is in for Jethro today.
@Crimsonorblue22 On my mom's side of my family, they did everything possible to help blacks - my dad's side was quite the opposite. One of my father's ancestors was Nathan Bedford Forrest.
@JayHawkFanToo I never have problems with it. Don't give up on it. It took me a few times to get it right. If another game comes up, then you'd go back and try another link. I say try link 2 because link 1 normally is not the game, but an advertisement ..but link 1 works from time to time.

That story reminds me of my great grandfather Albert, who coached a semi-pro baseball team back in the 20s ? With Jim Crow fully in effect, it was one heck of an effort to get food at restaurants, or get a hotel room for his black players. My grandpa would come in with the white players to the hotel, get the room, and then sneak in the black players after dark...and then get them up and out of sight before sunlight. Mom told me that their whole team would go in the back of restaurants and eat together, since the blacks weren't welcome up front.

Baloney. To suggest that Self shows any less passion and desire in the NCAA Tournament than he does during conference is truly "Fools Gold". If you wanted to rephrase your statement to : "We win conference every year, we should win the national championship every year", then I could accept it as a KU fan with unrealistic expectations. If you want to blame Coach for his tactics, rotations, etc..I'm fine with that. But to say he doesn't have the same passion and desire in the tourney is ludicrous.
Great post. I have the same level of excitement as you do about this team this year. One major advantage is the vast amount of experience we'll bring to the table this year. These past two years, we've had to rely on too many freshmen to try and carry us - which won't be the case with 4 starters with multiple years experience this year. Excited to see more dribble/drive, and less hi-lo, and our shooting beyond the perimeter shows we truly have the makings of something very special.
@KansasComet You know, that might be one of the reasons that Coach Self emphasizes conference so much - back in the day, they didn't have post season conference tournaments. There were much fewer slots to the tournament, and if you didn't win your conference, there was a chance you wouldn't be invited.
This is not directed at you, but I can't get my head around equating conference titles to not winning national titles. What does one have to do with the other? So, if we win conference, and lose in the NCAA, suddenly winning conference is bad? Let's say we lost conference...would that increase our chances in the tourney? If given the choice, wouldn't you rather win both? Why all the caterwauling on the boards right after we beat a top 15 team with huge freaking size ( the kind of team that would've beat us last year) ? Are we at KU becoming the basketball version of LSU, which nearly fired a national championship coach with a 78% win percentage????

They lost today in OT to Siena. I think we'll be slight favorites..lol.
@HighEliteMajor I noticed that Davis was starting over a guy that averaged 17 ppg last year for the Aggies. Perhaps the guarantee of minutes is what swayed him.
@AsadZ Perhaps that's why he hasn't signed anyone at those spots yet. They'd have a year as a back up behind Frank, Devonte, and the trio at the 3: Svi, Greene, and Vick.
