I'm sure there is a budget for who they can get. I would like to see them land someone like BOB or Flo Rida. I think that's the sweet spot for family friendly and an awesome concert. But might be slightly out of the price range. Even Lil Wayne has some cleanish songs he could come sing, but again he may be out of range.

@Texas-Hawk-10 and Langford isn't a risk?

Whiff City • Sep 30, 2017 02:59 AM

@BShark well it seemed fine to OSU. Things could change. A lot more scholarships to fill.. I think we are due for new names to start popping up.

@JayHawkFanToo he's a very, very bad rapper that has been apart of one huge song.

@justanotherfan I guess we will find out. i just think you might be underestimating what it would take for the NBA to build the fan base and infrastructure to draw top talent. Even if done right, it might only have a 50% chance of success. It would be a logistical nightmare and create an unpredictable market effect. Not sure owners would be willing to gamble that much cash.

@BShark I'm interested to see how much they tone him down. I know it is supposed to be family friendly, but every other word coming out of Yachty's mouth is not appropriate for the audience. Well I say that... But If they just let it be rated R, it'd be sick.

Bilas calls for fixing amateurism in NCAAM • Sep 29, 2017 08:39 PM

@mayjay Do you pay all athletes? Or just the ones who sold jerseys? Or just the basketball/football teams?

And then that begs the question of why? Why would the NCAA or colleges do that? It just makes no sense money-wise. How hard has the NCAA been hit these past 15 years? Time and time again they get crapped on and do the politically incorrect thing. Yet every year, their bottom-line is better than the year before. They don't care because they are holding all face cards while everyone else is holding 3's.

And if the NCAA had a kind enough heart to allow that, how do you regulate it? What if I'm a booster and I want you to come to school at KU. I can promise to pay you $1m for an autograph the moment you sign a letter of intent at KU. I mean that would make things even shadier.

Bilas calls for fixing amateurism in NCAAM • Sep 29, 2017 08:27 PM

@justanotherfan Stormchaser's average 5k per game. And that is tickets sold. Royals average 27k.

Charlotte Hornets average 17k. UNC averages 18k.

A minor league system isn't profitable. In fact, it is a black hole that the NCAA has turned into a billion dollar industry. You can't replace the tradition, nostalgia or camaraderie college sports has. It is watched at an emotional level a minor league system couldn't develop for hundreds of years IF that.

Jaybate This Is Your Day • Sep 29, 2017 06:50 PM

@BShark That would be pretty outrageous.

Bilas calls for fixing amateurism in NCAAM • Sep 29, 2017 04:55 PM

@justanotherfan I guess my point is, KU will still make millions on the next group of kids. The NCAA will still make billions. And, March Madness will still be fun to watch and will continue to be the 2nd most bid on sporting event. So even if the NBA started some sort of league, nothing would change.

Personally, I don't see a school/league like the one you are talking about ever gaining enough traction to become a reality. NBA and NFL have it made. People watch those college sports. So they don't have to fund the "minor leagues" themselves. Why would they take on that risk? It doesn't make any sense whatsoever. It doesn't even benefit the players to become apart of this beginner league. That would essentially end the NBA draft, for which the players make a lot more money than they would being signed to minor-league deals through this several hundred-million dollar system that the NBA will never fund. Especially because it will make them basically no money whatsoever. Who watches the G-League right now? Nobody. And that has had tons of college studs run through it.

If your argument is to still pay players, that is simply illogical. If people want to watch the best 18 year olds play against each other, they can start a league that pays them. Some have already tried, even offering up to $1m and the players still don't go. So why would the NCAA start paying players if they have no competition? The NCAA has a set of rules. The NBA has a set of rules. They happen to overlap. And if players don't want to follow those rules, then they can go somewhere else. But in the end they almost all end up going to college anyways.

It is a free market and the NCAA is dominating.

ROMEO LANGFORD • Sep 29, 2017 04:35 PM

@JayHawkFanToo People saying that remind me of the same people who said they though Bragg would be able to play some at the 3 spot before we ever saw him actually play.

Garrett was the best player on the court 99% of the time. Why not just put the ball in his hands to start? It is similar to a lot of high schools or even colleges just putting their best athlete at QB.

Jaybate This Is Your Day • Sep 29, 2017 04:11 PM

@BShark I did. Changed what I wanted to say. That was really funny.

Also, MSU just started getting involved in tons of top 10 kids lately... Kind of out of the blue... If anything, that seems more shady than someone whose been ivolved with stud recruits for 15 straight years.

Bilas calls for fixing amateurism in NCAAM • Sep 29, 2017 03:53 PM

@justanotherfan Although to assume KU wouldn't have a major advantage is foolish. KU will still get the top players available and it will work its way down from there. KU might even be better off because we would be recruiting players who know they will be playing for 4 years. So we might actually get 3 of the top available 15 ever single season instead of fighting tooth and nail to get those guys to come and play for only one year.

It could be more advantageous to KU to have that happen.

Bilas calls for fixing amateurism in NCAAM • Sep 29, 2017 03:50 PM

@justanotherfan And we would all still watch it.

Bilas calls for fixing amateurism in NCAAM • Sep 29, 2017 03:28 PM

@justanotherfan People still watch CFB even though 95% of the players don't go pro. People will still watch CBB even if the top 50 players of each class don't play.

ROMEO LANGFORD • Sep 29, 2017 01:57 PM

@BShark I personally like Garrett as a utility guy. I haven't seen him handle the ball well enough in a college game to be comfortable with him running point. However, I think he handles the ball extremely well for all other positions on the court and could be a huge mismatch at the 2-4 spots.

ROMEO LANGFORD • Sep 29, 2017 01:55 PM

@BShark They should be backups. No doubt about it. Solid backups, but Cunliffe and KJ are not blue blood starters.

ROMEO LANGFORD • Sep 29, 2017 01:44 PM

@BShark It is like splitting hairs. I think there is room for both. I think it may come down to who commits first (I think Langford's recruitment is about to move pretty quick now, but I have no details to support that. Just seems like it will). I'm afraid that Grimes is scared of Langford and will go elsewhere if we get him. Have to be able to sell both of them on playing together.

I would think it would be an easy pitch to Grimes. Hey, you want to be an NBA PG. Well having this guy on the court with you will make that job easier. Not to mention, you won't even see the PG position if you go to UK. Here, we have one PG and you will be the other main ball handler.

ROMEO LANGFORD • Sep 29, 2017 01:22 PM

I prefer Langford personally. I think he is a better athlete and will be able to score from 3 levels right away. I think Grimes will end up stuck as a wing who only shoots 3s his first season or two and then develop into a guy who can score at all 3 levels.

Bilas calls for fixing amateurism in NCAAM • Sep 29, 2017 01:16 PM

@mayjay I like him usually too. I think he is a pretty smart guy.

Bilas calls for fixing amateurism in NCAAM • Sep 29, 2017 03:53 AM

@drgnslayr the NBA created the OAD rule. If anyone is to blame it is them. just like anyone else, the NBA requires players to go through college. If players don't like the currency they are paid in, there are other options.

The real cause of this is greed by everyone BUT the NCAA. It is the pressure from fans, schools and employers of those brand managers. The NCAA made rules and said if you want to come here, follow these. People did illegal things to break the rules.

Paying players wouldn't solve this problem. People always want more.

Bilas calls for fixing amateurism in NCAAM • Sep 29, 2017 03:05 AM

Bill giving interviews like this also makes me feel better. I'd be more worried if he had a low profile.

Jaybate This Is Your Day • Sep 29, 2017 02:41 AM

@BShark makes more sense. Not zeroing in on kids. Just offering based on basketball skill. If you wanna come here or adidas does their thing in the dark without him knowing he's not in any trouble.

Thing is they are clearly targeting assistant coaches and head coaches are either in the dark or aware and it is an agreement that the assistant coach will just be the fall guy.

@HighEliteMajor they are committing fraud by every definition in order to hide it from the organizations so they can break the rules though. Even if the corruption charges don't stick, they all committed fraud and/or tax evasion.

If UT was smart they would build a smaller, state of the art, intimate venue with amazing acoustics. Put the small crowd right on top of the action and make it a loud/tough place to play. It doesn't need to be some giant arena. An arena that holds about 10k so you know it is always sold out. You can make up for the lost revenue from the 2k in attendance by upping donation minimums for certain football tickets or something like that. Make it a fun environment to come like Sporting KC has done. Once that is accomplished, basketball ticket prices will rise and arguably make the program even more profitable.

@HighEliteMajor It 100% is corruption and fraud.

Taking bribes from people unqualified to do a job so that they convince players who trust them to invest millions of dollars with them is corruption. And is a super shitty thing to do.

To cover the corruption, they have to funnel the money secretly. Which is called fraud.

They didn't even get to the part about income tax evasion. That will fall on the shoulders of parents who surely didn't pay the 25% tax on that $100k. Or the AAU coaches. Or the Assistant Coaches.

It is also disrupting of a major system that more likely than not has tens to hundreds of millions in federal funds running through it. Or at the very least is tax exempt from the billions it generates in revenue on a yearly basis. To allow that system to be corrupt is just as bad as a politician being corrupt. And, all this probably happened with just a few agents gathering evidence. The FBI didn't go after CBB either. This case fell in their lap. They looked into a fraudulent financial advisor, turned him and the rest worked itself out. Tax dollars well spent in my opinion. Why let a crime go and search for a new one you might not find when you can stop crime that you see right now?

Jaybate This Is Your Day • Sep 28, 2017 07:32 PM

@BeddieKU23 more subpoenas will come. Have to sort through all the fraud after that though. And figure out who knew. What invoices were fake. All that forensic accounting takes a lot of time and effort.

Pitino's Backup Plan... • Sep 28, 2017 05:55 PM

With that being said, Kelvin Sampson is still a good coach. Wins everywhere he goes. Even Houston.

ROMEO LANGFORD • Sep 28, 2017 05:35 PM

@JayHawkFanToo He will be in Lawrence tomorrow.

Jaybate This Is Your Day • Sep 28, 2017 02:19 PM

@BShark I am too. I'll continue to do research and try to find weak spots.

At this point, Towns is the guy too look into. Howard scared me because he is young and could be trying to make a name for himself. But I haven't found anything yet from him that scares me.

Jaybate This Is Your Day • Sep 28, 2017 02:17 PM

@BShark If true, makes the Quickley thing seem more legit. Especially combined with the Baltimore area thing. If the name Jide Sodipo gets mixed in with anything, expect a lot of teams to start freaking out.

Jaybate This Is Your Day • Sep 28, 2017 02:10 PM

@BShark But, we lost Ayton. Jackson signed with UA. And Wiggins didn't need money. Selby also probably took money from Adidas and so he picked Tennessee. UT ended up getting investigated for the Aaron Craft debacle and he decomitted and ended up at KU. So far, nothing to worry about other than the coincedence that KU landed 3 guys in late spring that were recruited by Towns who is known as a phenomenal recruiter. We lost out to Ayton early, and we know he was paid.

Jaybate This Is Your Day • Sep 28, 2017 02:08 PM

@BShark Was that from the AAU team?

Jaybate This Is Your Day • Sep 28, 2017 02:01 PM

@BShark I did find that Townsend was lead on Selby. And Wiggins. And Jackson. And Ayton. If we have a coach who is a problem, it is him.

Jaybate This Is Your Day • Sep 28, 2017 01:40 PM

@BShark Any major program that gets through this cleanly will automatically have a leg up in recruiting I think. If we do get through this clean, Bill really will be looked at as a boy scout nationally. And I really do think that will go a long way.

ROMEO LANGFORD • Sep 28, 2017 01:33 PM

@FarmerJayhawk I thing it is a big plus that it is Stumps brother who is trying to get him. Hard to believe Stumps wouldn't be helping him get guys.

Jaybate This Is Your Day • Sep 28, 2017 01:30 PM

@BShark Appears that the SOL is 5 years.

Under federal statute 18 USC 3282, individuals are protected from prosecution for any noncapital offense in which an indictment is not found within five years of the criminal act. In most cases, noncapital federal offenses that do not meet these guidelines cannot be prosecuted. However, the repercussions of federal criminal corruption are so far-reaching that, in practice, a revelation about corruption can result in probable cause for a thorough investigation that may uncover current corruption, whether intentional or not.

Jaybate This Is Your Day • Sep 28, 2017 12:57 PM

@BShark Yep. And it's ironic how it is always guys that the staff recruited their asses off for. We watched Sexton how many times? Visited him over and over. Put in the work. And then it slips away "because Avery Johnson played in the NBA and he knows what he's doing." I always knew that was bullshit. Makes a ton more sense now.

@approxinfinity JB basically just called Rick Pitino Batman lol.

"FBI: Because we have to chase him. Because he's the hero College Basketball deserves, but not the one it needs right now, so we'll hunt him. Because he can take it, because he's not a hero. He's a silent guardian, a watchful protector, a Dark Knight."

Pity on out??? • Sep 28, 2017 01:14 AM

Don't count any coaches out. Money talks. Especially when they will probably not have to pay out Pitinos contract.

Jaybate This Is Your Day • Sep 28, 2017 01:11 AM

@BShark links?

Jaybate This Is Your Day • Sep 28, 2017 12:11 AM

And add Bama to the list of programs that are taking a hit. No surprise. Ferguson and Sexton come to mind. Starting to make more sense.

Pity on out??? • Sep 28, 2017 12:01 AM

@drgnslayr "My head coach was fired because his staff was involved in fraud and corruption" should meet the immediate eligibility transfer guidelines for EVERY player.

Jaybate This Is Your Day • Sep 27, 2017 09:47 PM

@BShark Not even a glance from him. Never understood. Worked out fine in the end. But then there is always the, what if scenario if we got both him and JJ. What a trio we could have had. Or even, imagine the 5 guard lineup with JJ at the 4 and JT at the 5...

I'm hoping this all works in our favor. This bomb being dropped could be just what Bill needed to land those National Championship pieces we keep losing out to schools at the last second for apparently unknown reasons.

Jaybate This Is Your Day • Sep 27, 2017 09:28 PM

Well, I think how KU recruits in the next month or two will tell us how our staff feels about being involved. I'm sure Bill had a heart to heart with each coach to make sure we are or are not involved in anything.

Either we will be aggressive and take advantage of the upcoming chaos with a monster class (and possibly an eligible big man to bolster our front line this year, but that would just be crazy lucky), or we will be in damage control. I think the staff's actions over the next few weeks will speak a lot towards their innocence.

Jaybate This Is Your Day • Sep 27, 2017 08:57 PM

@KUSTEVE Borrow whatever you like. I do expect a cut from any money you make though.

Jaybate This Is Your Day • Sep 27, 2017 08:57 PM

@BShark Yep makes sense

Jaybate This Is Your Day • Sep 27, 2017 08:41 PM

@Lulufulu Nike looks like they are getting smashed too. The entire Nike EYBL league just got subpoenas. Guarantee that there was money illegally funneled through there. Nike is about to be in way more trouble than Adidas I think.

Adidas stock, down .1%

Nike stock, down 2%.

That is a very significant drop for Nike in comparison.

I think everyone is sensing that if Nike is involved at the same level Adidas is, and there are 3 times as many Nike schools, shit is about to go down. Especially with people turning on each other now, expect news to just continually leak over the next several months. All of this should eventually be made public record as well so the NCAA will have all the evidence they need in order to have a field day. The fact that the Nike EYBL just got raided means Nike schools should be freaking out right now.

Jaybate This Is Your Day • Sep 27, 2017 07:56 PM

I'm trying to figure out which players are in the DoJ report.

  • Player 10 - Bowen
  • Player 11 - Afernee Simmons? It is a Louisville recruit. Just can't figure out who.
  • Player 12 - Little
  • Player 9 - ? Currently plays for USC.
