Comparing a game between WSU and KU to the game played between Louisville and UK is apple and orange vs. orange and orange. (WSU isn't in the same league as the other three)

The Cardinals have won three NCAA championships (1980, 1986, 2013) and have been to 10 Final Fours (6th all time) in 39 NCAA tournament appearances (5th all time) while compiling 70 tournament wins (6th all time).

Kentucky has both the most all-time wins (2119) and the highest all-time winning percentage in the history of college basketball (.761). Kentucky's all-time record currently stands at 2119–664. Kentucky also leads all schools in total NCAA tournament appearances with 52, is first in NCAA tournament wins with 111, and ranks second to UCLA in NCAA championships with 8.

Kansas has the longest current streak of consecutive NCAA tournament appearances (24), has the 2nd longest current streak of winning seasons (31 with Syracuse having 43), has the most winning seasons in Division I history (95), the most non-losing seasons (.500 or better) in NCAA history (98), the most conference championships in Division I history (56), the most First Team All Americans in Division I history (21), and the most First Team All American Selections in Division I history (29), is third in Division I all-time winning percentage (.721) and is second in Division I all-time wins (2,101).

The Shockers have made ten appearances in the NCAA Tournament, ending in the Final Four twice, the Elite 8 twice, and the Sweet 16 once.

The quick yank β€’ Dec 16, 2013 02:08 PM

Maybe it's because I have my KU glasses on but I don't recall any of our guys crying to refs about calls or no calls like other teams (i.e. UK J. Randle). Traylor's run away is the most reaction I've seen from these guys on a call this year. I have seen the turnovers that turn into stupid fouls on the other end. Some of them resulting in three point plays.

Mason is not Collins. Collins was a 40+ % 3 baller as a freshmen.... Mason is a 23%. Frank needs to improve that part of his game drastically.

Post-game Roundup: KU vs Florida β€’ Dec 11, 2013 01:56 PM

I was late getting out of work so I attempted to set my DVR from my phone. When I got home I found out it didn't work. Blessing! Some what caught the last 5 minutes or so of the actual game. I'm thinking someone was watching over me and didn't want me to see a first half that sounds like the TCU game 2.0. The stat that jumped out to me the most last night was the number of TOs. Does anyone recall the points off of turnovers from the Colorado game? At one point I thought they showed that it was 24-8. I'm sure last night the numbers were close to the same if not worse.

Dec 10 Game Day: KU vs Florida β€’ Dec 10, 2013 04:13 PM

Is Zone Defense The Answer? β€’ Dec 09, 2013 09:17 PM

@truehawk93 : A zone, be it 1-3-1, 2-3, or Tri&2 are the blueprints for stopping KU's athletes. We didn't know how to or couldn't run an effective offense against any of these zones. We should devote some practice time on zone D so maybe we can figure out what to do against that zone on O. And until we can run an O that exposes the zone or we get someone (two, three, all) hitting the 3 we will see a lot more of it.

Is Zone Defense The Answer? β€’ Dec 09, 2013 07:07 PM

Rules aren't going anywhere. Ever.
John Adams ESPN Article β†—

Adams says they changed the rules for consistency and to eliminate the grey area in hand check foul vs hand check non-foul. I guess having a brain and using it while running was too hard.

Is Zone Defense The Answer? β€’ Dec 09, 2013 06:42 PM

I'll be shocked if they revert back. To do so would admit idiocy and the NCAA would never do that.

Is Zone Defense The Answer? β€’ Dec 09, 2013 02:31 PM

I agree that we probably need to play some sort of zone to offset our foul problems. My only concern is our lack of intensity. Self has talked about this already, but we're getting beat on 50/50 (for us it's more like 10/90) balls because our guys are just watching the ball and the other team going after it. This also goes for rebounds. There are times when nobody goes after the ball. We some how beat CU in rebounding by 2 while giving up 13 offensive rebounds. There were too many second chances and even a few third chances granted. Guys need to put an ass on someone and then go after the ball. Too much spectating for the KU guys.

Dec 6 Headlines: Mason to start at PG β€’ Dec 06, 2013 05:34 PM

@Wishawk : USMNT got a tough draw today. Getting picked to be with Deutschland was bad enough, but adding Portugal at the end was cruel.

Dec 6 Headlines: Mason to start at PG β€’ Dec 06, 2013 04:48 PM

@justanotherfan : Agreed, we need to get Wiggins and Selden going rather than a PG that's chucking bricks from 3 and driving to score.

Dec 6 Headlines: Mason to start at PG β€’ Dec 06, 2013 02:57 PM

@jvhawk22 : "Wissoxfan I meant last year he stuck with EJ when it was clear tharpe was the better pg. The Michigan game would have turned out differently if tharpe had been in the game instead"

Please explain this.

Keegan piece on Weis nails it β€’ Dec 05, 2013 07:13 PM

There's a problem with our WRs when their individual total of receptions for the year are less than 10 more receptions than all of our DBs. Shockingly here are the numbers!

R. Coleman 8; A. Turzilli 7; J. Ford 9; J. McCay 9; T. Parmalee 9; C. Matthews 11 <--- led all WR

Safety Isiah Johnson had 5 interceptions....

KSU WR Tyler Lockett had more than all of these guys combined!!!! 71 receptions on the year.... Maybe we could trade all of our WRs from this year for him?? Think the old man would go for it?

Charlie say "Jayhawk football O-tay !" β€’ Dec 04, 2013 06:31 PM

Gill was able to recruit kids that could recall KU actually winning games in their lifetime. Weis didn't and doesn't have that opportunity.

Rankings β€’ Dec 03, 2013 04:41 AM

William Self Jr is number one. T. Boone would be 2nd if he'd give me his couch change (estimated $27.3 million).

Watched the Shockers yesterday against StL, Gottlieb was the announcer and did a great job. He likes the new block/charge call against the secondary defender. And he hates the new hand check rule. He's my 2nd favorite OSU guy.

Self Ignoring An Asset: Three Point Shooting β€’ Dec 02, 2013 07:32 PM

@nuleafjhawk Agree on your takes about Embiid, Mason, and Wiggins.
" I'm very, very impressed with Embiid - when he learns how to play basketball ( you all know what I mean ) he's going to be a real force to be reckoned with. When Mason learns to drive to the hoop and get fouled instead of putting up a 3 point shot that's likely not to go in he will be a big asset for us. IF Wiggins will quit being so humble ( a trait which I normally admire ) and start being aggressive, it could change a lot of things for us. Wiggins reminds me very much of McLemore except that BMAC was a much better outside shooter."

The one thing Embiid needs to learn is that any 3 that he attempts is an attempted turnover.

Far too many of KU's three pointers are coming from the wrong guys. And Mason is on the third tier of my list of guys I want shooting them. (1st: CF, AW3, and BG 2nd: NT, WS, and AW) Doesn't he know there was a reason he wasn't 1 of the 2 being guarded in the triangle and 2. UTEP was ok with him jacking up threes because his 3s < his drives. It's too bad the guys on top of my 3pt tier ride the pine and aren't allowed to get into the flow of the game. Then our 3fiency wouldn't harm us like it has.

Anyone else notice that we had no clue on what to run against the tri-2? Is it really that hard to learn on the fly? Instead we had the one guard that wasn't being face guarded attempting passes to the post and the two being face guarded just standing on the wings. There were times when there was 0 movement from the two guarded.

And how do we not know how to break a press? It seems to be our Achilles heel every year! Wayne would constantly stand at half court right next to a defender. I know that we don't have a lot of time to practice but shouldn't we try it out once a week? Maybe the same day we practice FTs? <--- sarcasm, not sure we practice them either....

I'm just like @Blown, when I play league ball I don't want to play on a team with +7 guys because for me it's harder to get into the flow/get my shot down when my minutes are sporadic. I'm a rhythm shooter. I've watched CF and AW3 warm up before the game and they'll both drain 20 in a row. Then we have team intros, shaking hands, and them riding the pine for until 10-15 minutes before getting into the game and they come out cold.

@Parishawk @approxinfinity : While using an iPhone you have to be signed in to the site to be able to hit the reply button. Not being signed in is the only time I can get the problem to occur.

I'm going to vent too and try to keep it civil.

The announcers in pre game said we were coming out red hot. So for KU red hot is actually winning a game?!? Especially to a struggling WVU. I'm guessing that ISU is now streaking and blazing hot?

Has anyone that is playing QB or WR ever played those positions before? I watch a lot of football every weekend and I've never seen a team consistently fail to execute a simple pass play like KU can and does. ISUs WR looked like AA compared to ours.

Another problem is that the pass plays we do run are screens...

Do we need to simplify that cadence so we stop with the damn fail starts?

Cozart running out at the 12 when the 1st is at the 11 is mind boggling. The last coaching I had was in high school and I didn't need my high school coach to tell me then that running out at the 12 and not the 11 or 10 is a bad. Not really sure that's a coaching miscue since it's a common sense play!

The 30 for 30 was amazing. Loved the line from Allen's wife when she found out the other bidders we Duke fans....

'Clones or Clowns? β€’ Nov 22, 2013 03:00 PM

Ejim's actions come about a minute after one of his teammates is ejected for contact above the shoulders, in this case Kane removes Eric Mika's eye. Video β†— In my opinion Ejim flipping the bird is in the same class as EJ and the ball tap. Just really, really bad decisions made in the heat of the battle. I try to cheer for BigXII teams in the non-conference but Iowa State's fans, the blatantly racist and homicidal ones on EJ's twitter and Melvin, make it difficult for me to do so.

Myles Turner and Funny Odds β€’ Nov 21, 2013 05:54 PM

@truehawk93 : "I'm not real sure about the other OSU and UK at this point."

UK already has a C signed for next year in 6'11" Karl Towns. They also signed a PF that's 6'11" so would Turner want to compete with them??

Is this weird? β€’ Nov 21, 2013 04:09 PM

Don't get me wrong, I too think he should stay, just as I thought Juju Wright, Xavier, and Selby should have stayed. They all needed to improve their games and work on their weaknesses. But to these top tier guys, the NBA is their dream. And their dreams came a knocking. I can't fault them for jumping at the chance to play in the league. *(actually I still think Josh should have thought better of it. Though it's very likely those close to him and a scout or two convinced him that he was a lock for first round.) To the guys that are getting solid info that they're a lock for the first round (Juju, Brandon, Thomas, Xavier, Arthur, Cole, Ben, Mook, and Kief) they should go! And I won't blame Joel when he leaves. I know the 2014 draft is deeper than the next year. But athletic 7 footers aren't falling off of trees. He may not go in the top 5. But I have a very hard time thinking he won't go in the lottery. And doing a fast scan of the mock drafts, most have Embiid in the top 7 (Wayne is in the top 13 on a lot of them...). I know it's early, but like my first post, we all see the potential.

There will be a NBA team next June 26th that will be sitting at the 6, 7, 8 spot. And Wiggins, Parker, Randle, Smart, Gordon, you know the top guys... will all be off the board. If you're the Bucks GM do you draft J. Young or Exum and stick with Zaza Pachulia, Larry Sanders, and Miroslav Raduljica as your C???

Post-Game Round-up -- Kansas 86 Iona 66 β€’ Nov 20, 2013 11:33 PM

@milehighhawk : My wife asked me if I'd read anywhere if Greene was hurt. I didn't know about the rumored hospital visit, slammed doors. The reason she asked was because she thought he was holding his hand funny and was messing with it like it was bothering him. I'm blind as a bat so I couldn't even see where Greene was at.... HA!

Is this weird? β€’ Nov 20, 2013 11:11 PM

Unfortunately I believe he'll leave this year. Like you stated, the NBA is all about potential ,and with Joel, there is a Mt Everest of it. And I can imagine that there have been multiple scouts already this year that have told him that he WILL be a top pick. You hear that enough and you see that kind of pay day.... come on, how can you turn that down?

Post-Game Round-up -- Kansas 86 Iona 66 β€’ Nov 20, 2013 04:33 PM

@Blown : My wife and I were talking about Mason's play after the game last night. We were both glad that he was willing to drive to the basket since Wiggins and Selden (first half > second half) seemed unwilling to but I too thought he should have looked more for the assists than the points.

Don't take this the wrong way and say I'm a troll.... but I do like Marcus Smarts game. But I don't want my point guard to put up 39 points and only have 4 assists. I'd rather my pg put up 19 pts and have 14 assists. I really love the fact that Naa had 10 assists and 5 points last night. One of the best plays last night was his unselfish pass to Wiggins on a fast break that Naadir could have easily scored on but gave up the ball instead. That type of play is the reason I'm a fan of Steve Nash.

Zenger is increasing the number of TV sets for Kansas without actually increasing the number of TV sets in Kansas.

Last week we got to hear about everything except the game thanks to Duke Vitale

Hopefully this does help to increase the KU footprint and manages to keep KU relevant and in a BCS/major conference affiliation when conference realignment comes around. People that are pissed off need to ask themselves would they be ok with KU being in the MVC or MWC next time?

Texas: Hit me with it! Just give it to me straight! I came a long way just to see you, Bill. The least you can do is level with me. What are my chances?
HCBS: Not good.
Texas: You mean, not good like one out of a hundred?
