@Crimsonorblue22 Wayne and Perry can guard Valentine. cuz Valentine is gonna have to check both of them with they are playing SF. Btw, do we think that Perry will see time at the 3 against MSU? Imagine Frank Devonte Perry Bragg Mickelson. I bet that happens again.
@drgnslayr. Solid!
Attrition is definitely going to be a key on tuesday. I also think we have more depth which favors KU. If one thing is certain is that Coach Self is a master at strategy and at hybridizing offenses. It'll be harder to pick up 12- 18 ppg off run outs against MSU but its definitely feasible. MSU can run with us, its just can we beat them down the court after a steal or missed bucket?
Its gonna be a HUGE game so early in the season. Great litmus test to see what KU is really made of.
@drgnslayr Steve Jobs has a play book? ;)
Anyways, I just watched the MSU game from last night. They seem pretty big and tall down low. They go after every rebound and a couple can stretch the floor. Their outside shooting wasnt great and they turned the ball over a lot against an inferior team. They seem to make more outside shots from the left wing. They sucked at free throws.
I think KU can beat MSU on tuesday but the keys to winning might be rebounding and defense and free throws.
@JayHawkFanToo Dude, they dont even follow their own rules!
I get what you are saying here but seriously this is arbitrary rule following by the NCAA. Clearing some guys and not others, letting kids play that dont care about school or education (UNC and UK) and for all intents suspending other kids for actually wanting to get an education and be a student athlete. Its totally bogus.
If the NCAA were following its own rules to the absolute T, then why OH why are lawyers getting involved? Why have two kids' legal guardians had to lawyer up if the NCAA was keeping everything on the up and up?? Why? You seem like such a smart guy. Answer that question. And this one as well; why is it that you seem to NOT want Diallo cleared? Are you really a Jayhawk fan or some troll imposter of one?
My original point that you seemed to miss is the NCAA is losing a ton of face and credibility here by their actions and alleged rule following.
@HighEliteMajor Good for him. The Big10 will be tough this year. He'll get some good exposure.
@HighEliteMajor I still dont understand why Traylor is starting and not Mickelson. We are going to need his length and rebounding and shot blocking against MSU.
@jaybate-1.0 Yeah, I agree with our front court lacking in the talent department and the need to protect Bragg. But, would playing him against MSU be any different than the punishment he took in Korea against older and bigger players and him with an operable nose? Bragg is tough. I think Coach Self plays him but limits his minutes like you say to around 15ish.
We have Izzos ## too. So far in the Champions classic I believe we are 3-0 against them or maybe 2-1.
@JayHawkFanToo Im guessing that we will see Cheick cleared before the month ends. Purely speculative of course. But, there are lawyers involved now, a lot of high profile names are pushing for Cheick to be cleared ( Dickie V and J Bilas) #FreeDiallo is trending on twitter. All that attention is a negative thing for the NCAA. They are really losing face over this in a major way. If they want to come out of this with even a little bit of subcutaneous tissue left then they better do the right thing here
@jaybate-1.0 Makes me thing we have an advantage over MSU this early in the season. KU is so so deep and talented this season. KU should win on tuesday but they wont drop a century on MSU. It'll be a test of each teams' meddle and a game of attrition. Close game of attrition if KU can't can the trey at their normal stellar levels or rebound against a bigger team.
@globaljaybird Great article and great story on a great young man. Wish he could have been a Jayhawk, would have made us all proud. But, it seems like he has put himself in a position to do even greater things where he is at right now. Rock Chalk Braeden!
@drgnslayr And Traylor actually rebounded last night!! It was amazing!!
@jaybate-1.0 What if they call the game as tight as they did last night? All of Izzo's thugs will foul out before the first half and we'll win it going away anyways. Even with back to average trey shooting and even with Designer Efficiency albeit low scoring.
The rule changes they are implementing full force now really dont support Izzo's way of thug ball. I just dont see how, if MSU continues to play that way, they can keep from foul trouble every single game.
59 fouls last night?? If MSU sends Frank and Devonte and Perry and Lucas and Mick and Svi and Bragg to the line 4 times each, thats a huge cushion!!
@konkeyDong I understand the sentiments here because I feel the same way. BUT, this is a basketball forum, specifically KU basketball. Can we keep the posts separated?
@Eric 53 - 31 KU
@Crimsonorblue22 Im really liking KU's tenacity over all so far tonight.
@jaybate-1.0 Another post Im going to have to digest over a period of time after I finish watching the KU game going on right now! ;) Rock CHalk!
Big game tonight. Its our first game of the season and last opportunity to "tune up" before Michigan St on Tuesday.
What do I expect from our boys tonight?
Above all else, I expect toughness on both ends of the court. I expect them to not take any plays off. They must show that tough mentality they proved they had in Korea this summer. They have it in them already, they must bring it every single game if they want to reach their lofty goals this season. It all starts tonight!
RCJH!
@Jesse-Newell That was a great great article!! Thank you very much!
@drgnslayr Totally agree but right now we have One guy. One. Will we get even one more? Im a little worried. But, Im more focused on what we are doing right now.
@BeddieKU23 I stand corrected
@BeddieKU23 Tacko Fall, 7'6" going to FSU. Its doubtful that he is as highly regarded as Diallo but the kid is near genius level IQ.
The NCAA is absolutely doing this to these kids based on a bias towards Nike based schools.
@DoubleDD Im not commenting any further on racial tensions. This is a KU basketball forum and hence forth I will only be commenting on basketball related topics.
@DoubleDD You know, I have to respectfully disagree about one thing here. I think Coach Self is the perfect coach for this team right now, B2B scoring threats or no. What he learned in the WUGs this year has proven he can adapt and win in many different scenarios with different rules. FIBA vs NCAA.
Add to that the fact that we got the 08 National Title, the '12 National runner up and are perfectly poised to make a great run at the '16 title. We all know his best teams are his most experienced teams that have loads of talent, like this team has. 08 and 12 are no fluke teams. KU has never, in the Bill Self era, been bounced early from the tournament 3 times in a row which means we are due for a big run again in '16.
Rock Chalk!

@DannyParkins: "I think Cheick's chances of playing for Kansas this year are excellent... almost a certainty." Diallo's attorney on The Drive @610SportsKC
THAT is excellent news! Even if it is an opinion.

What happened in the civil rights movement. Wasn't about special rights. It was about equal rights. I have no problem fighting for equal rights. Never had. Yet when you give special rights to a race of people you're are creating racism. You're are saying because of the color of your skin you get special treatment. You're saying you can hold positions and work certain jobs because of the color of your skin. It doesn't matter whether you're qualified or not. That my friend is racism.
MLK never wanted special rights he wanted equal rights. I bet he's turning over in his grave right now seeing what in is playing out. Hell we are giving so many special rights to the minorities the cops aren't even allowed to arrest them for wrong doing anymore.
NO but they are apparently allowed to shoot first and ask questions later. Well, atleast they used to be up until recently.
@DoubleDD "almost makes me think if Diallo were attending UK, Duke, or UNC he would already be cleared."
Effing hell yes he would be cleared!!! Nike schools vs Adidas school. Again I call to attention the very same discrepancy and seemingly arbitrary guidelines that border on overt favoritism with the 7'6" kid at UCF. He should absolutely be cleared as well but alas he isnt at a big time Nike school like UK, Duke, UNC.
@ralster Wayne certainly did play with a fire lit under his ass. That hustle and running jump into the scorers table to save the out of bounds for KU? Classic Wayne move. He didnt light up the box score but I thought he did rather well.
@jaybate-1.0 Emphatically C!!! i mean look what is happening to the 7'6" kid over at FSU!! And, a&b too because the NCAA is proving to be nugatory and ephemeral.
@BeddieKU23 My video feed on espn was spotty at best so i couldnt fully see every play. Was our perimeter defense that bad, again? I thought we improved from last game.
@wissoxfan83 SO, anyone know why BG didnt play tonight? I thought we played much better than last week. Svi has found his shot. Lights out!
@ParisHawk The NCAA is absolutely NOT on KU's side.
Why would they drag this out for half a year and let Skal get cleared and Calipari get off with a free pass to cheat all the way to the Final Four again?
This same thing is happening to another kid 7'6", highly intelligent, taking calculus and high level science classes at his school but no clearance for him either. Of course that other school isnt a Nike school either.
@ParisHawk Thats just insane! 6th grade, are you freeking kidding me!?
The Nike BigShoe ties to the NCAA are painfully evident since they had no problem clearing Skal and dont even smell a whiff of wrong doing towards Calipari.
@konkeyDong Ohhhh yeah! When the goal was a literal peach bucket. not a hoop with a net.
@approxinfinity I think it worked though, just saw on ESPN that the Mizzou prez is leaving.
@BeddieKU23 I think Bragg and Mickelson can be better than Traylor and Tarik.
Provided Wayne's ankle is almost healed, he needs to wrap that up tight and come out to play tomorrow. BUT, Coach Self needs to run offense for him specifically so he doesnt come out flat and look bored.
@nuleafjhawk Are you talking about some hybrid of soccer and basketball?
@drgnslayr I dont see the one about TV time outs. Nobody gives a flip about friggin commercials. Limit those damm things to one break per half. and then what ever at half time.
@drgnslayr I see a Marcus Smart rule has been enacted. Bout friggin time.
@BeddieKU23 I hadnt seen any of his games this season yet. I didnt even know he was dealing with a back injury! I hope he is ok now.
@jayballer54 we gotta get Bolden. I really am not on par with all the recruiting stuff. Im too focused on the season right now. But, yah, we have to get Bolden. Beyond that, Idk.
@Crimsonorblue22 Nice!! I didnt see the game but was keeping track of the box score. Wiggs is becoming unguardable. I think he has been studying Kobe's game. Most definitely he has been working on his ball handling skills! Going right, then to his left with a spin move, something he couldnt pull off as easily at KU. He looks amazing. If he doesnt make a push for the all star roster this season, it will be next season for sure.
That dunk over Pau was sweet! Those couple drive and kicks for assists were sweet. That 3 in Joakims face was sweet. He is becoming a sweet player!
@JayHawkFanToo agreed fully. He's not going to show all his cards to opposing teams this early.
@HighEliteMajor On #9. Bragg and Mickelson are absolutely our best post players. Totally agree, we need both of them to have stellar seasons for us to be a top 4 team all season. With Diallo in there too? Forgettaboutit. Done deal. I think another question could be posed to the coach about the reasoning behind giving Traylor the start or giving him starters minutes when clearly he is a major liability on defense and defensive rebounds. Why? It doesnt make any sense to me. Sure he is a 5th year senior. I get that. But, he does not give us the best chance to win games.
@HighEliteMajor On #7, do you think Self will scheme for games in a similar way to what he did this summer? Or, do you think he will revert back to last years bad habits? Maybe that is a good question for you to ask him directly on Rock Chalk Talk some day soon. I mean, he absolutely has to be swinging towards the fences this season after getting bounced two times in a row during the NCAAs. Historically, since Bill Self has been our coach, KU hasnt gotten bounced early more than twice so i really dont expect it to happen this year. But, he didnt exactly show us he was willing to let our guys play during Pitt State. I mean, they could have hung a century or better on those guys, for real. AND Wayne did not play with as much nastiness as we saw him do this summer either. I just hope he is still recovering from his ankle sprain and not being resistant to whatever.
@Crimsonorblue22 I was just thinking that I wanted Steph Curry on our team. Not a knock to what we have at all. I just think it would be cool.
@drgnslayr if Diallo ends up not playing at all this season, do you think he declares for the NBA next year anyway?
@jaybate-1.0 I think we can say with absolute certainty that Traylor will be a net negative on the boards again this season. But, everything else? I just chalking it up to its a pre season game, lets just wait and see how they progress through this month before too many WTFs. I think Selden still might be favoring that ankle. Although he did have a pretty sick looking one handed jam through traffic earlier...
BG and Svi and Selden all got burned on defense. Svi should be quick enough to slide, BG just isnt. Selden has to be favoring that ankle still...right?
Alright, Second half, about midway through it. I saw SVI stay in front of his man, who happened to be a smaller guard. So, he can do it. Svi is quick enough to fight over a screen and stay in front of his man. But, then on the next defensive possession by KU, BG and Selden get burned and well, pretty much the whole team gets out hustled by Pitt state. That warrants a big WTF!
@jaybate-1.0 Alright ;) in all seriousness here. Finished the first half of last nights game again. I retract what I said earlier about our guard play. It wasnt horrible. Pitt State is just better than an average DivII team. I mean, Selden, despite his ankle, got to paint whenever he wanted, had a couple nice assists, threw down a sick one handed jam off a drive. So, yah Selden is good. Mason and Devonte' were as good as I remember them being. Svi looks better to me also, even though he didnt get many minutes. Brannen is the same to me also. Im not sure if he is 100% yet or not.
Our bigs, again I really really like the duo of Mickelson and Bragg!! Those guys just kill it on the court together! Both crash the glass hard and get to 50/50 balls, can knock down mid range shots and set eachother up for hi/lo stuff. Perry is smooth as the silk he designs with but he has more pop, more I dont know what. Traylor seems better suited to play the 3. I may have seen him get one rebound, he had a good drive baseline from the left side and made a bucket off a putback tip in. Seems to have energy on the defensive end too but still is a liability on defense?
@jaybate-1.0 HA! Nice alliteration. Is that even a real word? whatever it is, its long...is that the reference there? Coach Self has a long johnson?
@jaybate-1.0 Yay! We got to see our first game of the season for KU! I know its a pre season warm up but it still counts to me. Im psyched for this season big time.
Aside from Ellis, I thought Bragg and Hunter were our best players. I loved it when they were both out there together. Great tandem!
Our guard play sucked i thought. But, Im going to rewatch the game right now on espn replay just for fun and see what I missed before.
That Pitt State team is gonna be good this year. They really gave KU all it could handle for the first 15 min or so.
