Stands to reason that Vandy will put pressure on our weakness this game which is post presence scoring and rebounding. They'll pack it in and dare us to beat them from 3. Which is why we need Bragg and Mick down low for some length and rebounding.

I mean, there is a slight chance that with Diallo being cleared, he will play Mickelson and Bragg more often. Diallo is allegedly a superior rebounder so he takes minutes away from Lucas. Diallo has a raw offensive game that needs to be developed.

@drgnslayr Rock the frikin Chalk!! I was absolutely apart of the Coach bashing...well maybe bashing on my part isnt quite accurate. But I was definitely upset with him for playing Lucas and Traylor over the better players in Bragg and Mick. I still am a bit perturbed by it but I am letting that go. Bragg and Mickelson themselves seem to be above such behavior...publicly anyhow.
I said earlier, I think we all should give Coach a pass for the present time simply because of the situation with Diallo.
When have we EVER known Coach to be this vocal about any situation involving the NCAA? For him to publicly toss the NCAA under the bus like this, he has to be in a monumental situation with equal amounts of stress. Could this affect him in game situations??
Its not out of the realm of possibility, at all.
I believe this is KU's year for three reasons.
One. In 2003- 04 he came to KU and way way over achieved with Roy's guys, taking them to the sweet 16 if I am not mistaken.
Two. In '07-08, he started the season 20-0 with a roster of NBA talent that he had been able to mold and develop over a few years.
Three. in '11-12 he took a senior laden team that was short benched all the way to the final four against impossible odds. Lets be honest. They were impossible.
Here we are 2015-16 season. Do we detect a pattern emerging here? I sure as hek think so.
Lets see how it unfolds. If Coach lets his team get bounced in the first weekend of the tournament this season, then I think we will have just cause to bash him all we want.

@BeddieKU23 We've all been hard on Coach Self for not giving BG enough freedom to play and help KU win games. We've been hard on him for playing Traylor and Lucas, who are not as good, over Bragg and Mick.
Under the current circumstances maybe we should lighten up towards Coach Self. He has been upset with the Diallo situation and quite possibly that has affected his judgement for making in game adjustments and letting his guys play like they did in July. Maybe all this extra stress with the Diallo situation has made it harder than we realize for Coach Self to be his best also.
I expect Diallo to be cleared any freekin time now. If he isnt cleared monday before the game then I expect KU might play him anyways. They have a S***load of ammo to bring to bear against the NCAA. Major actionable case type stuff.
Maybe once Diallo is cleared. Coach will have the rebounder he needs, therefore opening up the floor for Bragg and Mick to do what they do. There is no evidence to support playing Traylor and Lucas over Mickelson and Bragg except on the rebounding areas. That gets fixed, I think Traylor and Lucas will play less.
@JRyman IMO, the NCAA is protecting students that go to Nike schools from having to meet the normal standards. If they choose to go to Adidas schools when, in their view, they should have gone to a Nike school, then all bets are off. The kid becomes a target for "de facto suspension"

Here's another thought. Self should play Diallo tomorrow. They have lawyered up x3 and proven the NCAA has Zero ground to stand on. If the NCAA has the stones to penalize KU for playing Cheick without their say so, then KU can take them to court and blast away at will.
@Crimsonorblue22 Some people think Im a bit crazy for spewing my conspiracy theories about the NCAA not following their own rules and that they have a personal vendetta against KU and/or Cheick and his legal guardian. But the more info that comes to light on this case, the less crazy I think I seem.

They are biased against KU for some reason and possibly even as far as having some personal vendetta against KU and/or Cheick and his legal guardian. Maybe Cheick didnt pick the right school? He goes against what those in power want, which was him to go to a Nike school? Yah, i know, far fetched right? Im delusional in my conspiracy theories.

Just to realize he has to play our best players more minutes. He has to play Bragg and Svi and Mick more minutes to make sure they are ready for crunch time in the Big 12 and in March.

To answer your questions:
Yes, Cal would still be there bc he's only been there half as long as Self.
Yes, Consonaunts would still be there bc of the two previous titles. But he was in decline for a while w health issues and lack of talent before he got the Team USA gig which has elevated his talent immensely.
That's a toughy. I assume Roy would still be there bc he's one of their own. But I'm sure there would be a small % of people calling for his replacement.
For the record, I don't want hcbs replaced. I love the guy! I just wish he was would free the three and play Mick and Bragg over Lucas & Jam Tray!!!

@Texas-Hawk-10 Yes, it was my opinion that Mick was our best rebounder simply because he is a better all around player than Lucas and Traylor. I still think he should be getting more minutes. He can help us as evidenced by what we saw in July! I dont understand why Coach has put him on the far side of the bench again! I literally cant understand his reasons for that.
@Texas-Hawk-10 Bill Self isnt insane. He is highly intelligent and I am sure we are not privy to a lot of information and a lot of the decisions that are made regarding KU and KU Basketball which leads to us feeling like he is making bad decisions etc..
I'll ask this question instead. Is the NCAA insane? Or, do they have a personal vendetta against KU for some reason or another? In the last 5-6 years how many recruits have we had eligibility issues with and is that number incongruous to the number of recruits at other elite schools who experience similar problems. I am talking about UK, Duke, UNC. The top 4 schools in the nation.

When I woke the next morning and looked at the box score I said' WTF!?" How could we have lost that game? I have a few more questions to add to that one and to yours.
Why did Mickelson only play 3 freekin minutes!? He is our best rebounder and rim protector by far, not even close, aside from Diallo. And, Mick can actually get things to happen on offense, coughlucascough!

@wissoxfan83 Agreed. Our other great, Paul Pierce, is on his last leg of his ball playing career. Can't deny he has been the best NBA Jayhawk in the last 20 years but the changing of the guard has come.

This KU game wont start until nearly 10pm my time. I slept this afternoon and I'll probly take another cat nap before game time cuz aint no way Im not watching this one! Its too huge of a match up so early in the season to put on my DVR and watch after the fact.

@VailHawk I know Vail. I read and saw that on Espn today about Manning. One of the greats to be sure. Breaking records til the very end. It is his end though. He is almost 40. Not many QBs last that long. If he is smart, this should be his last season

@Statmachine Izzo scareeeed! ;) Nah, I mean I watched MSU play their first game. They went up by 20ish on the other team then basically traded baskets til the end. They went for rebounds like mad and played defense well but couldnt convert free throws at a decent rate and if its a foul fest like the first KU game was, that plays into our favor. Both teams have certain MUA's but I think KU is the deeper and more experienced team and will win by attrition or KU will have excellent spacing and shoot lights out again. KU by 5.
