@jaybate-1.0 specifically NOT adidas

Wasnt it Harvard that came to AFH and almost beat KU? Snowy crappy day and the place was packed. Close game and KU just barely beat them. I think it was 2011.

I answered my own question. I think it was the Cornell game.

@wrwlumpy Omg, Bush W was at Harvard? Thats a laugh. What did he take, coloring books 101? No wait, his daddy paid his tuition and his teachers to pass him. Yah, that sounds about right.

@jaybate-1.0 IF. Boy oh boy do I hope its IF. But, I have to say that I would not hold any grudge against him if he did bail. Personally I think Cheick is very smart and if he thinks he needs to develop more to get a higher pick then he does that at KU.

Diallo- First Impression • Dec 02, 2015 11:42 PM

@BeddieKU23 Oh yah, I jumped out of my seat when Diallo had that tomahawk jam...with the other hand on his head. Play of the game right there. I agree. With him out there, KU is a different team from a speed and energy standpoint. He is a little raw offensively still but I believe he will be ready for the big prime time match up with Kensucky at AFH on Jan 30th!

Anyone know if there will be celebrities at that game? Seems like we havent seen my most favorite Ms Wilde for some time and Ashley Judd likes to travel with her blue kitties.

@jaybate-1.0 Didnt Kevin Young play for one of the Loyolas? I forget which. He is definitely one of my favorite Jayhawks of all time. And, his hair is still Epic!

Seven Low Spiritual Signs Diallo Will Dunk • Dec 01, 2015 10:46 PM

@jaybate-1.0 Ummm i'll take # 13?

@jaybate-1.0 Solid! See, I was wondering about that in the sense that our offensive production is at a 5 year high. Twice this year we have eclipsed the century mark and I suspect that will happen another one or two times before conference play begins. Honestly, I hope KU can keep its trey shooting % up at those Curryesque numbers but, I know that is not likely to happen.. They will have to come back down to earth one of these days. I just hope its not against Kensucky. I fully expect Diallo to help our rebounding and rim protection in a major way. I wouldnt be surprised if Bragg and Mick get chances to help out more in that aspect either.

New thinking on the O side of the ball • Dec 01, 2015 12:12 AM

@jaybate-1.0 Here's another geek, Kenpom, has KU ranked 10 on Offense. KU hasnt been ranked in the top 10 on offense since '11. 5 years!! Now, if they can maintain that or improve on it by adding Diallo to the mix, finally, then by March we should be title contenders. I hope sleeper contenders. I dont want KU to have a huge target on their chest. Id rather Duke and UK be the outright favorites to begin with then KU comes in a surprises everyone like they did in 08 by beating both UNC and Memphis 1 seeds.

This Or That? • Nov 30, 2015 07:47 PM

@drgnslayr Just on reflex, I automatically pick having Wilt as a Jayhawk and a sweet 16 exit. I am proud to see his name associated with KU as one of the all time greats to step on the court, and what he did to change the sport and to change society... it wouldn't feel right to lose that.

But, I can see the arguments made for both choices have merit. Both of them I can identify with and say with absolute certainty that they are correct. There is no wrong answer here. We are all right in our opinions. Having another NCAA banner hang is absolutely ideal also.

In the metaphysical world where Wilt never played here, then we would have never known the difference. Then, we get the celebratory euphoria of getting to hang another banner.

Back to the real world. I truly believe that KU will at the very least, share the conference title and make a deep run in the NCAAs this season.

New thinking on the O side of the ball • Nov 30, 2015 07:39 PM

@jaybate-1.0 I like having so many cards in our deck as to not be so predictable what we can put down. Not just Hi-lo, not just Bad Ball or South Korea ball. All three and probly tweaks of all three in random order, circumstances, etc. Maximizing KU's odds of maximizing their offensive production.

The National Championship Cheick is in the mail already.

OAKLAND, Calif. -- The Golden State Warriors are now 18-0, after a gleeful 120-101 evisceration of the DeMarcus Cousins-less Kings.

This game had the usual staples. Stephen Curry made physics-taunting shots, scoring 17 on a mere six attempts in the first quarter. Emerging All-Star candidate Draymond Green did everything, everywhere, again. This time that ubiquity led to his becoming the first Warrior since Wilt Chamberlain to claim consecutive triple-doubles. Andre Iguodala was great yet again, and Festus Ezeli delivered productive energy, yet again.

The Kings started off feisty, till the fight was futile. For the Warriors, it was another blowout win, to extend a streak that's stretching far as light.

Ho hum, same old Warriors, a team that now has outscored teams by 288 points through 18 games. For comparison, Houston, Golden State's 2015 Western Conference finals foe, had outscored teams by 282 points after their entire 2014-2015 season.

So, how does a team that averages a blowout top itself? On Saturday night, joyous surprise came in the form of a quick strike Brandon Rush throwback game. He was called upon to replace Harrison Barnes (sprained ankle) in the starting lineup, to some surprise. He didn't deliver much in the beginning but owned the third quarter like Klay Thompson in disguise. Rush scored 14 points in a 3-minute, 49-second stretch that was shocking, fun, and possibly cathartic.

Rush has a history here, having done nice work for a very different Golden State team, not entirely long ago. On the 2011-2012 Warriors, he was the rare good role player, a glue guy in a situation too shattered to matter. On Nov. 3, 2012, against the Grizzlies, a Zach Randolph shove sent Rush's career into dormancy. He'd scored 2,639 points in his four-plus seasons before his ACL injury. In the two seasons that followed, he scored 109.

In the background, he has been a vocal part of the locker room, originator of the, "Get what you neeeeed!" catchphrase, meant to inspire work between practices. He's a popular teammate, someone people here have been pulling for to finally reclaim what he lost. That was palpable in the frenzy of his 14-point explosion. Teammates were clearly looking for Rush, hoping to extend his moment.

Brandon Rush scored 16 points, including 14 in a brief stretch during the third quarter. Cary Edmondson/USA TODAY Sports
After a dunk over contact, Rush was found for three consecutive 3-pointers. Then, during a timeout, interim coach Luke Walton and assistant coach Jarron Collins decided to carry the fun further, calling up "Elevator Doors" for the suddenly hot Rush.

"Elevator Doors" is a play that looks like its namesake. An offensive player runs off the ball between two screening teammates, who converge together to block his defender -- the closing doors. It's a play normally called up for the best of shooters, as it creates a 3-pointer on the move. You'll see Curry get this play call. You'll see Thompson get this play call. Something crazy has to happen for almost anyone else to ditch the stairs and take the lift. Since three straight 3s qualifies, Rush got the call, got the ball and ... splash. The crowd went nuts, only outdone by a Golden State bench that might have accidentally created dance moves never before invented.

Walton explained the moment, saying, "When Brandon got hot and they called a timeout and we were walking out there to discuss [Jarron Collins] and I looked at each other at the same time. We both had it in our mind. That's one of our go-to plays when somebody gets hot. It's normally ran for Klay or Steph, so it was nice to be able to call for it for Brandon. They executed it perfectly and he knocked down the shot."

Of the call, Rush said, "It was a big surprise. Luke said let's stick with the hot hand." Of the moment, Rush admitted, "It was the best I've felt in awhile. A couple years."

The streak continues, bigger and better than ever. The Warriors continue to demur when asked about it, continue to focus on the present. In the meantime, their recent play has proved powerful enough to reclaim a man from the past.

@KUSTEVE Yep, I want it all. I said earlier that I think Bill should swing for the fences this year, still mean it too. But I want both. I really do. Can't argue with the fact that a conference champion gets an automatic 1 or 2 seed and thus a supposed easier path to the FF.

You are also right about Vandy. They would have beat us last season, the one before that too. I hope we arent getting close to asking for Coach's ouster for whatever happens. Not like it would happen anyways. His seat is pretty much heat proof. I mean, he would have to really Eff things up in a Calipari vacate season and wins type of way for him to get booted from KU.

Why Loyola,MD, or Getting to know GG • Nov 29, 2015 02:42 PM

@jaybate-1.0 It seems, with the new rules, that a physical Big10 type of game is not as easy to make happen. Cant push off a defensive player with your forearm, cant defend the rim with your arms held out even a bit less than 180*. I suppose hard fouls can still be given. But, I hope things like we saw happen last season are becoming fewer and far between. Cant bash a guys nose into his skull with your forearm, on either side of the ball, without getting called for it...I hope.

New thinking on the O side of the ball • Nov 28, 2015 08:04 PM

@jayhawk-007 Solid post! We are already an elite offensive and defensive team, without Diallo. Kenpom has us ranked 8 and 5 respectively. We havent had that much balance on both ends since 08 to be quite honest.

Passing hasnt been this good since a few years either.

Picking the mind of KU fans • Nov 28, 2015 07:56 PM

@DoubleDD

I guess what I'm asking is, "The longer the streak goes does the streak it's self take away some of the luster of the great accomplishment"?

Hell to the No! As I mentioned earlier, only John Wooden has done what Bill Self is doing and that was nearly 40 years ago. It'll be another 40 years before we see anyone even come close to matching with KU on that front.

Picking the mind of KU fans • Nov 28, 2015 07:53 PM

@jaybate-1.0 Ahhhh leave it to Jaybate to put an existential spin on winning the conference vs a national title.

Picking the mind of KU fans • Nov 28, 2015 07:47 PM

@MoonwalkMafia I understand your point and I agree to an extent. But think about the coaches in the 5 power conferences during the past 40 years. Which ones have won their conference 11 times in a row? The Major conferences, Big 12, Big 10, ACC, Big East, SEC, Pac 12. There are only 2 coaches in that list. Coach Wooden and Coach Self. That is legendary. No other high elite level coach in the history of the game has done what Wooden and Self have done. Is that not admirable? Is that not legendary?

reminder to look at my response above. I did say that CS needs to swing for the fences this season and get this team back into the FF regardless of the conference title streak. But with this team the way it is, having soooo many similarities to the '08 team, they will do both. But, they may have to share it with OU or ISU this season. Neither will just let us have it.

Fool's gold comment by...an NBA player? • Nov 28, 2015 07:38 PM

@jaybate-1.0 They have that in spades. I love that team. They have to be my favorite to win it all again this year. No disrespect to any current KU players in the NBA right now but Steph Curry is my favorite player. He wasnt until he started taking off on this interstellar elevation of his game. I mean I just shake my head in amazement at some of the stuff he does! Its Jordanesque. Even better in some ways. Curry seems pretty grounded and from what I remember of Jordan, not so much.

The Golden State Warriors had a record breaking 22 3PTA's in their absolute stomping of the Phoenix Suns last night and Draymond Green made reference to "fools gold"
I think its interesting and funny considering what we as KU fans have heard from our own Bill Self.

Here it is:

PHOENIX -- How do you stop a team that stomps opponents on off nights?

Here's an illustration of what's terrifying about the 17-0 Warriors, aside from the fact they're 17-0. On Friday night, Golden State was torched on defense, ceding 116 points on 92 shots to the host Phoenix Suns. The Warriors were sloppy on offense, lousy with unforced errors, coughing it up 23 times. A bad game for them, in a few respects.

Still, they won by 19, 135-116. Also, they didn't even need to play Stephen Curry in the fourth quarter. As in, the game ceased being competitive after three stanzas. The Suns were done. An unholy torrent of 3-point shooting had snuffed them. In his three quarters, Curry delivered 41 points and nine 3-pointers. The team set a record, splashing 22 from deep.

The Suns went small, attempting to best Golden State at its preferred style. What resulted was an aesthetically pleasing, fast-forwarded look at basketball. Phoenix already had dug a hole by then and couldn't keep pace with Golden State in rhythm, hitting so many 3s. The Suns had a great night beyond the arc, draining 10 3-pointers on 26 attempts. Other teams just aren't supposed to top that figure by 12.

Golden State, despite all the "streak" questions, continues to focus on process. Interim coach Luke Walton said, "We turned the ball over too much, we still have to get better at that." Breakout All-Star candidate Draymond Green, who claimed a triple-double Friday, said, "I don't think our performance was great tonight. You can't let fool's gold fool you." It makes sense. The Warriors hit some 3s they won't usually hit. They need to tighten up, fix certain things that might hurt them later.

Tyler Davis vs. Cheick Diallo • Nov 28, 2015 12:57 PM

@HighEliteMajor I really dont know much about recruiting but Im not sold that Diallo was a fall back guy. He's too good. Here is a scouting report I found for last year. Cheick Diallo ↗

I think CS made this kid a target, a must get target. Sure, he had to have other must get targets as well. Looks like Davis might have been one. With recruiting dont coaches kind of have to use the wide angle approach? Can't just go all in on one kid and then if you whiff on him, you lose out on a bunch of other players too.

Picking the mind of KU fans • Nov 28, 2015 12:43 PM

@DoubleDD Good post. I would love to have the links for the other sites that you visited. Specifically UK, Duke, UNC. Id be grateful if you could post those for me ;)

Basketball culture amongst KU fans is very deeply ingrained into our subculture of society. We truly do bleed crimson and blue.

On to your question...As much as I think the conference streak is important for the legacy of CS, I think he needs to swing for the fences this season. I mean, the conference streak is at legendary status right now. Its at the level of Coach Wooden's own streak way back. Some could argue its even harder to maintain today. But, KU needs to be in the Final Four this season more than it needs to continue its reign of dominance over the conference. CS really needs to take this team and make a big run in the post season. We might not be able to do that next year depending on who we have returning and who we get coming in.

I also agree with you that if Coach keeps doing what he is doing, winning the conference and making a big run in the NCAAs will likely go hand in hand.

@wrwlumpy Coach says Diallo is raw. Ok, sure. He is a freshmen. JoJo was raw too. I know Diallo can score though, I mean didnt he average a high double double while getting the MVP in those games, what were they? The Jordan game and the McD's game? My point is, dude can score right now. Dude can defend even better, right now. I dont think it will take much time for him to get acclimated to the pace and maybe even learn or improve on some B2B moves he may have picked up in practices already.

#DialloFreed • Nov 27, 2015 01:09 AM

@JRyman The NCAA has lost major credibility nation wide. All that remains of their face is a skeletal visage. A major weak link in their armor has been exposed and its only a matter of time before there is a major regime change in the NCAA like there was recently at FIBA, FIFA?

GREAT Win!! Wayne Selden says HELLO • Nov 26, 2015 03:55 PM

@HighEliteMajor No, I didnt see that at all. I didnt watch the video. Man, I hope you are wrong. I mean Coach can't treat Cheick like he did Cliff. It'll be bad for the team, bad for him, bad for Cheick and bad for future recruiting.

Although, I do think Traylor or Lucas will rotate starting games or halves until Cheick gets up to speed. I also think that Cheick will play at the very least, 10- 15 minutes a game until that time.

GREAT Win!! Wayne Selden says HELLO • Nov 26, 2015 03:47 PM

Diallo getting boards and able to run with the guards will solidify, in my opinion, that Frank, Devonte and Wayne are the best back court KU has had since Chalmers, Russ Rob and Collins.

Ok Jayhawk fans. I just read this on ESPN and since there are some of you that dont have Espn insider access, I thought I would post this load of BS, just in case. It reads thusly;

The playing status of Cheick Diallo has been resolved, with the NCAA ruling Wednesday that the prized freshman can suit up for Kansas starting next week.

The NCAA's decision ends a lengthy back-and-forth between the organization and the Jayhawks. Coach Bill Self held a conference call Saturday night to detail the steps the university had taken to work with the NCAA regarding Diallo's eligibility. Kansas athletic director Sheahon Zenger also sent a letter to the NCAA detailing the Jayhawks' view that the organization had mishandled the player's case.

EDITOR'S PICKS

Jayhawks fans rejoice as #FreeDiallo campaign has a successful ending
Kansas received some welcome, if belated, news on Wednesday, as the NCAA finally cleared prized recruit Cheick Diallo. Jayhawks fans were overjoyed.
"I really want to thank the NCAA staff for guiding this process to a fair conclusion in what was a very complicated situation," Zenger said.

Diallo, a 6-foot-9, 220-pound forward, will be eligible to play Tuesday, when the fifth-ranked Jayhawks host Loyola. Kansas currently is in Hawaii for the Maui Invitational, where it takes on No. 19 Vanderbilt on Wednesday night in the championship game. Diallo was allowed to travel with the team to the event.

Prior to Wednesday's game, a thankful Diallo took to Twitter.

Diallo arrived in the United States from Mali midway through his freshman season in 2012, and spent the past 3½ years at Our Savior New American, a private high school in Centereach, New York.

In 2012, the NCAA placed Our Savior under review, which could have nullified Diallo's core coursework.

The NCAA, though, confirmed that Kansas provided new information earlier this month, including an independent review of that coursework. Based on the information provided, the NCAA concluded that Diallo received a limited amount of extra benefits and thus would have to miss only Kansas' first five games.

"Our goal is to have eligibility decisions made prior to the start of a student-athlete's season," said Oliver Luck, the NCAA executive vice president of regulatory affairs. "However, this was a complicated case involving international transcripts and a high school that remains under review. Additionally, staff considered a complex set of circumstances regarding amateurism."

Diallo previously told ESPN that he received an A and a B in two summer courses he took at Kansas. He is enrolled in 15 units in the fall semester.

"The decision today was nothing more than a pretextual justification for a flawed investigation," Diallo's attorney Don Maurice Jackson said in a statement. "There were no legitimate academic issue relative to Cheick's secondary school education and no legitimate amateurism issues. ... Conveniently, the fifth game of Cheick's five-game suspension is [Wednesday's] game."

Diallo is considered the prize of Kansas' recruiting class, a relentless rebounder ranked No. 7 in the ESPN 100. He has drawn comparisons to Denver Nuggets power forward Kenneth Faried.

Information from ESPN.com's Jeff Goodman and Andy Katz was used in this report.

** My quick takes on this are as follows**

Our lovable AD Zenger's quote is very duplicitous. He is thanking the NCAA for doing the right thing, Finally! And, at the same time he is saying Hey NCAA you guys are a bunch of losers who have to be threatened with triple lawsuits AND have KU do your work for you just so you can save a little bit of the face you have left by saying it was complicated and the work we did and had done only took one week to finish, you inept idiots.

Im rolling my head back like I just had a stroke because the NCAA had the gaul to say they allegedly found that Cheick had improper benefits that were responsible for them holding Cheick out for 5 games, which they were totally going to do in the first place but didnt even know they were going to do that until yesterday???

I mean SERIOUSLY!? Who hired these jokers? Why do they continue to work while exhibiting the signs of patients needing frontal lobotomies?? This is such a joke!!

Poor Cheick. Im just glad the kid can play now. Its been a total sham, an absurd sham.

@DoubleDD @jaybate1.0 Correct me if I am wrong because the true definition of Bad Ball escapes me, but basically it entails driving in into the paint, collapsing the D for "short treys" or kicking it out to open 3 ball shooters.

I have to ask this question. WHY for the love of Phog Allen did Coach decide it was best to put in our two statistically worst players in crunch time, in the last 2.30 in a 3 possession game??

Ellis and Traylor combined for 2-11 FG and 12 boards.

Mickelson, Lucas and Bragg combined for 4-6 FGs and 8 boards in much less time.

Heck Traylor got his ass handed to him by 5-10 Frank Mason for a rebound!!
Frank out rebounded Traylor by himself with 5 Devonte had 6 boards and Wayne had a beastly 7 boards!!! How on earth is it a good idea to put in our two worst rebounding and scoring "bigs" in crunch time?

I mean, yeah they won and I thought it was a good win. They fought hard and made shots and out rebounded the much bigger team. They also basically broke even with TO's. They won the Fouls stat by a mile and beat Vande in FG%.

PS. Im fraking psyched that Diallo is cleared!!
