@justanotherfan KU has 2 great ones. Svi is being molded for spot PG duty also. I truly feel this will be a great season for this team.
@HighEliteMajor Bout darn time!
I asked @Jesse-Newell this very same question on twitter not long ago. He says Diallo is gone after this year. Even though I still think Cheick should stay and develop more at KU, I tend to trust Jesse's opinions. He knows his stuff.
@KUSTEVE UNI is gonna be good this year. A scary team to meet in the NCAA's. I hope they arent in KU's bracket.
@approxinfinity One thing to add. I absolutely cannot wait until January 30th when KU and 16,300 rabid KU fans absolutely blows the blue hair off the UK Wild kitties. Its a revenge game. Its a game that will involve taking no prisoners. Its a game where KU is the hunter and Kentucky is the hunted.
World Wide Wes cannot save slimy Cal within the legendary Phog Allen Fieldhouse. Noise decibel barriers will be broken. It is also possible that we could break the 150 point margin against Kentucky! No prisoners will be taken.
@wrwlumpy OU should have beaten Creighton better than that. Seems they have holes to fill. ISU should have beaten UNI. Cant say Im sorry bout that.
KSU a tourney team?? Seriously?? This year I predict a KU sweep of KSU kitties. Doormat.
Okie State always seems to have our # at their place. Wont happen this year.
Baylor got schooled by T A&M?? whoa. Ehh, early in the season. Baylor is one of the teams that may challenge KU for tops in the Big 12 this season. Didnt say they were gonna beat us.
@jayballer54 Lots of losses for the top teams this weekend.
Ive said it before. I'll say it again. The revenge game, January 30th, KU vs UK at AFH. We are going to beat them. Did I say revenge game? I used to think it would be Skal vs Diallo. But it appears neither player is ready for the big time. Diallo may be closer despite playing in less games so far. Either way, KU is going to make UK look silly in front of a national audience and dozens of NBA scouts. Pay back is a B*&^%!!! UK has 4 weeks to prep for us. KU is already waiting.
I agree with your parity statement. Not one team appears to be gaining any separation at all.
If I had to pick a final four today, it would be KU, Virginia, Michigan State and OU.
@wrwlumpy " Where all da white women at?"
@wrwlumpy This will be a big boy game for us. SD is a perennial NCAA team, for the most part, and it will be a true away game for us. We can beat them. Our boys just have to lock down and be tough like they were in the WUGs. They can win this game. I think it will be close but they can win it. It should be a good test.
@drgnslayr Yah, see I havent been paying attention to the recruiting stuff. I dont know. I guess I just have faith in Coach Self to pull some late game heroics on that front. Next season, barring any unforeseen circumstances we will have every one of our back court players back, minus Wayne if he keeps it up. We will have Bragg and Coleby ( who I keep forgetting about) and Lucas and the new kid. I hope we can get another top tier Big Man cuz thats the missing piece for us next season to continue on what we have this season, which is another national title contender with great balance and experience.
@jaybate-1.0 I agree they got schooled in the first half but there were absolutely more than a few superior plays on both ends during the first half by KU. Heck, their first two defensive possessions resulted in a shot clock violation and a late clock rushed shot for a miss. Selden kept us in it with his WUG like play. But then yah, half time came, Coach Self took out his frustrations and amped the team up for a huge second half. This team aint got no shortness of tough in them. No shortage of toughness. Whatever. lol
Second half was a thing of beauty but I still maintain KU didnt play that badly in the first half, they just got out played by OSU and had a few no calls by the refs.
Oh yah, and I am loving how Bragg is coming along. Skilled at passing and getting better. Can block out for boards on both ends. Can score and block shots. Kinda reminds me of Shady, minus a few lbs
@kansas-oats Thats very interesting indeed. Makes you go Hmmmm.
@KUSTEVE Nope. we most definitely havent reached our peak yet. That peak is at about K2 level. Thats insane.
I am sooooo unbelievably psyched for Kentucky to come to AFH on the 30th of Jan! Ohh boy are we going to get some pay back!
I loved that Bragg was our 6th man also for the Oregon st game. He showed up big time. All we need is Diallo to start catching up and Svi / Greene to get consistent.
@HighEliteMajor Solid! I am currently re watching the game and Im at the 1454 mark, just after the transition trey by Selden assisted by DG. I think you have something here. ALL of KU's points in the second half have been ball movement and pace and shooting. All of it linked to KU's solid defense on the other end. NO feed the post grind it out slow pace. I like it.
I didnt think they played terrible in the first half but they had some defensive lapses and missed shots and no calls from the refs that played into KU going into the half down by 11.
It was funny when Coach Self was so mad he punched his hand and broke his watch all the while cursing at the refs for a no call. I believe his words were "Hey so&so, blow your effing whistle!"
@drgnslayr Maybe he just has realized Hunter is our best starter. But I understand your concern. I gotta go watch that game again!
@brooksmd WTG KU. Rock Chalk!
@drgnslayr Are there really KU fans that think the sky is falling? KU is just fine. Even in the highly unlikely event that Coach Self leaves the program ( only to go to the Spurs to replace Pop ) KU is a destination job. A solid argument can be made that KU is the best program to be at. A bullet proof argument can be made that KU is top 3 all time. Who ever replaces coach will likely be on par with what we have at KU since the Larry Brown era. I refuse to speculate on names bcuz I dont believe we have to worry about who is coming next anytime soon.
If this is about KU having less than desirable success in the NCAA's. We currently have the longest streak in div 1 for consecutive appearances in the tournament. I dont care what anybody says, we have 5 National Championships. A 6th will come before Coach Self hangs it up at KU.
44-42 at the half to UNC.
Solid game so far. Lots of fouls, couple of questionable ones. I really want UNC to win this game. Eff Shaka. I hope we can roll them both times but admittedly it will be hard to beat them in their own gym.
@KUSTEVE Solid post. Well done!
@DoubleDD :Yah, pretty stark article with stats to show that Coach Self needs to swing for the fences this season. I cannot help but notice the pattern forming though. 04, 08, 12 were all big years for him. It stands to reason that '16 could be just as good. I think the pattern above is no fluke. I think that Coach's best teams are full of experienced upperclassmen with talent that know how to excel in his system. This year is no different and next season will be as well.
@wrwlumpy Ah, well lets hope it heals, gets better. KU needs Perry and Perry needs to start playing in top form ASAP!
@DoubleDD I think Coach Self should start running sets to get our sharp shooters open looks from trey land.
Elevator doors for example. Golden state runs it for Curry and its money every time, almost.
BG does not miss. We have 5 other guys that can shoot it real good too and we have 6 bigs that can set up on the high post on either end, when a shooter cuts between them, bam doors closed and BG drops a trey.
@wissoxfan83 Yep, saw that pic of him. Beast!!
Im with you. I really also hope JoJo turns into the next Hakeem. He is my favorite OAD and Wigs is my 2nd.
But JoJo looks like he gained major muscle mass. He looks bigger than Dwight Howard! That absolutely has to help him moving forward. I hope that foot of his heals up and stays healed. Then the 76ers will have one generational talent at the 5. and two other pretty darn good ones to back him up and/or shop to other teams.
I believe @jaybate-1.0 put it best. Nerlens and Okafor can't hold JoJo's jock when he has one good foot and an operable one. When JoJo gets both feet back!? Like, Whoa.
@jaybate-1.0 fascinating stuff. Great basketball history lesson. Love it.
@HighEliteMajor Nice post!
I know. Imma couple days behind. Gotta thing during the day that keeps me busy and out of trouble, when I wish i could be at home watching and rewatching college ball all day.
@jaybate-1.0 What happened to Perry? How did he get injured? In practice maybe?
@KUSTEVE KU is due for a bad game at the Sprint Center... its been a while.
I hope it doesnt happen though!!
@jaybate-1.0 technology would absolutely support putting a chip into basketballs and some sort of fiber connection into trey and quad strip lines. It'd be easy.
@jaybate-1.0 I really wish we had Nic Moore at KU this season, especially considering how SMU wont be able to play in the post season and its his senior year.
@jaybate-1.0 What what? W was at the SMU game!?
I wonder if LB met him after the game...
@jaybate-1.0 Think I could convince Mr Raveling to let a few more Nike recruits come to KU if I did that? ;)
@Crimsonorblue22 I wish Nic could have transferred to KU considering SMU's negatory post season tournaments.
@Crimsonorblue22 Gathers is a beast! He is even a bigger beast than TRob was. If he has a 30 - 20 game against KU, then we better hold the rest of the team to half that.
@jaybate-1.0 I have a dream! I have a dream in the legendary court we call Phog Allen Field House on the 30th of January, where our future hall of fame coach starts our senior post guys, Mickelson and Lucas over a nearly by then, game ready Bragg and Diallo against the slimiest coach in Div 1 and his cadre of future NBA talent freshmen. This dream envisions AFH being so rowdy and so loud as to break ear drums with its decibel levels reaching greater than fighter jet intensity. Once KU's senior laden hurt locker knocks down the blue kitties, Self plays a little trick on slimy Cal and platoons HIS team. "So, you beat us by 35 last year?" We'll match that and add the 10+ points our best in div 1 home court advantage gives us!" We arent going to send you home with your tails between your legs. We are going to cut those things the EFF freeking off!! Lucas and Mickelson each pull down near double figure reebs. Mickelson and Diallo each block 5 shots. Diallo and Bragg combine for a 20/20 game. Selden and Co make UK's guards look silly out on the perimeter.
There will be no prisoners taken in this dream. This is pay back and it is hell.
I have a dream that Coach Self is leading this team to this moment, to this game and everyone who can contribute will contribute.
@jaybate-1.0 Regarding second point, That makes sense! I am glad we can win with our composite 5. Im thinking that Diallo needs more than 7 minutes a game though, to get game ready by conference. Bragg too.
What I still am having a hard time wrapping my head around is that Bragg and Mickelson were our best bigs this summer in July. How come Coach Self wont play them and give them an equal chance to prove it non conference? Cuz imo they could.
I feel absolutely horrible for Diallo and Bragg right now, being freshmen and having higher ceilings than any KU post player we have now, and not being able to get the reps to solidify that! Self needs to give those guys an opportunity to play 10-15 min a game, get reps and work through mistakes, get better!
I feel even worse for poor Hunter. I mean, that guy has done his time at the end of the bench, worked on his game to get better, this summer he absolutely kills it in the WUGs and this is how Coach Self repays him? Its shameful. Its cruel and unusual punishment!
You both pose basically two sides of the coin in terms of rational for the game. I can understand both. They make sense to me.
What I dont understand is why Coach Self said, ( maybe Im imagining this ) but he said he would have chances to let Bragg and Diallo play through their mistakes. Thats not possible to do in 7 minutes!!
We are 6-1 on the season so far, which is better than last season if I recall correctly. Why not let Carlton and Cheick play more minutes in the conference games that dont matter? Let them get their feet wet, let them get burned on defense, let them get acclimated to the speed and new rules so we can win the conference and make a solid run in the post season? Practice makes perfect and all that.
Im not saying we should drop a bunch of games that we dont have to just to get those two up to speed. But they need more time than 7 minutes.
@benshawks08 Out of the top 10-12 teams, there really isnt a whole lot of separation. I agree. I mean the 5-7 range for KU seems about right still. #1 is all MSU's until they cant anymore. Everyone else has lots of bugs to work on. Which should make the season more interesting as things progress.
I mean, last year we had Duke and UK at the top with Wisconsin right up there as far as domination in prospective conferences. Then everybody else.
This year, anyone can beat anyone. There is no clear title favorite yet.
I kinda like it!
@drgnslayr Our guards are full of it. Frank, Devonte' , Wayne. Those guys have IT. Bragg and Diallo have IT. They just havent been given a chance to prove it yet.
I like Perry, I really do. He is a good player and he will leave KU as statistically one of the best. But holy cow!! I mean come on! Come on!
@HighEliteMajor Seriously, you need to copy/paste this and send it to Coach Self, pronto!
@HighEliteMajor I know. Its completely maddening! Coach Self is gonna mess around and have Bragg and Diallo NOT ready for post season play and our best recruiting options are going to pass up KU because they'll know they wont see the court for more than 7 minutes a game. WTF, Coach!? WTF?
@Crimsonorblue22 NO. I would rather Perry show some emotion, crank up his game a couple notches and quit being soft!
And guess what?
Perry is soft. There I said it. Not like it hasnt been said before.
Oh, and one more thing, ok two.
Jamari can't rebound to save his life.
Im glad we won a hard fought game against Harvard.
Rock Chalk!
@DoubleDD Whats not going to happen exactly?
I think the point here is quite simple. Self's comments about how MSU should be ranked 1st automatically give MSU a nice shiny target on their backs. That absolutely did happen.
@jaybate-1.0 Coach Self is like Achilles and Calipari is Hector. Calipari has to stack the deck in his favor to even come close to equaling Coach Self.
I dislike Calipari sooo much, its more of a genuine abhorrence of the guy. I am almost ashamed to admit he came from the Larry Brown coaching tree.
One last thing. I cannot wait for January 30th.
@jaybate-1.0 I think that most of the aliases have migrated to here from the ''other site''. Hardly anyone posts there any more. maybe a good article will get 20 posts tops.
@HighEliteMajor Yep, thats a good old horsey, now out to pasture you go. Thats what Coach's comments on Traylor mean to me. Youve done your time, done your hard work, now its time for new legs to come in and rock the chalk.
@Makeshift correct me if I am wrong but coaching implies teaching and development yah? Since when did Calipari develop his players? HIs OAD players? Calipari isnt an excellent coach, he is a hack that gets major bizz from the Petroshoe Co Nike dumptrucks unloading top shoe talent by the dozen onto his court.
They just lost, no, they just got their inbred arses handed to them by UCLA!! A team KU just beat by high double figures.
No. Calipari is not a good coach. He is just good at faking it.
@mihawk Christian Moody MD. He is really cool. I met him at KUMC, when i still worked there, a few years ago.
@BeddieKU23 Gathers might be the best post guy in the big 12 this year.
@HighEliteMajor Amen to that brother. Start Diallo now while we have a few practice games in front of us. Or at the very least, the very absolute least, give him starters minutes. 20+
