@Crimsonorblue22 ;) Yah, its out in the snow somewhere. I bet my key will get found in the spring when the snow melts LOL! Stupid me, thought it would be a good idea to keep my key with me. Even funnier, I was sober when I made that awful decision.
@HighEliteMajor Rock Chalk dude! Just to mirror your statement about our stellar offense. We are clearly one of the best in the country on that end right now. The cool thing is, they havent reached their ceiling yet.
@globaljaybird no idea if its a laser cut key. From an 03 Element. hopefully its not a couple hundred or something crazy
@globaljaybird Happy 2016 to you as well and to everyone on here, my favorite KU Bball forum. This place is like a taste of home to me. So far away on the east coast now, so far from Lawrence and AFH. This site is my virtual home away from home. Every time I log on to my computer, this is the website I come to first.
I had a wonderful New years eve. I went to a place called Smugglers Notch ski resort in Vermont, about 30 min from my place, for some fire works and night skiing.
Then as I was about to head home I realized I lost my car keys to my honda element. fabulous right?
Anyone know how much it costs to replace car keys for a honda?
This was the first and last time I ever lose my car keys again.
@jayballer54 Here's a question for you. Whats the process for picking a school? I mean, it sounds pretty easy to me. Pick a wide range of schools you are interested in, narrow it down over x amount of time and then pick by process of elimination which one is best.
I know its completely different but when I went to college I thought about what I wanted to major in, how much I could afford to pay on my own with student loans and which school had the program I wanted for my major, which one ended up being the best is the one I picked. It wasnt that hard of a decision for me. It didnt take me months to decide.
Why is college basketball so different?
@Hawk8086 Good point. Maybe Bolden waits to see what happens with Diallo
@jayballer54 Could get crowded in the front court again next season if we do get him. What if Diallo comes back too? As of right now, I dont think Diallo should go pro. He is clearly not ready and the 5 games he missed out on have affected his progress.
So, hypothetical situation; this season we lose Traylor, Mickelson, Perry and if Wayne keeps it up, he's gone too. Next season we got the new kid, i forget his name, Lucas, Bragg, Diallo and Colby and Bolden! Thats senior, junior, soph, soph, frosh, frosh. Not as experienced, just as deep, a lot more talented.
@drgnslayr Speaking of Perry at the 3. We havent seen that in a couple games at least, right? It seems so. I wonder if that was just an experiment from Coach to see how C5 would pan out and to see if Perry could play down a spot. I wonder if Coach will break that out again in big 12 play?
I was also thinking earlier, comparing KU's backcourt in 09 to this years team. Specifically Sherron to Frank and Selden.
Sherron, that was his team for 2 years after 08. He was the toughest baddest guy on the team, full of swagger and confidence. I see that same mentality in Frank and Selden but Im not certain if either one of them is greater than Sherron in that aspect. I do however, think that both Frank and Wayne together can bring that toughness and lockdown mentality.
@HighEliteMajor It is unheard of. Even Kentucky last year didnt have the post depth we have right now. I just hope Coach can keep it going because its working! Dont fix it if it aint broke.
One more month til the beat down.
@wissoxfan83 baby steps man, baby steps.
@nuleafjhawk Naaaah man, dont quit doing your happy dance. In fact, you should post a video of it so we can see the sour faces of your co workers and get a giggle out of it.
@JRyman Purely from a KU fan resolution making perspective. Thats not as cut and dried as the normal stuff as you mentioned.
I think I would like to be more mindful of how the game is played and try to expand my knowledge of the game in its many facets. I need to watch more than just KU games. I try to but Im not always successful at that, mostly because of time constraints but I do have a dvr so its a lame excuse.
@DoubleDD No I dont think we can win #12 with only Traylor and Lucas. Zero chance that happens. If Coach wants a nightly double double out of his bigs, he absolutely HAS to play Bragg and Diallo too. He HAS to. C5 is here to stay. Its silly of Self to entertain thoughts of benching Diallo and Bragg with zero playing time in many of our big 12 games. Its shooting this team in the foot. Its risking losing the conference and getting bounced waaaaay too early in the NCAAs.
This is a no brainer to me and I am just a fan. Coach Self absolutely has to realize this. I think he is hinting at not playing Diallo and Bragg to keep all the other coaches off guard. At least I hope thats what he is doing.
Thats exactly what we are saying @Texas-Hawk-10 . I guess people from texas can be smart. who knew?
@wrwlumpy said:
Unfortunately, Waco in recent history has not been associated with positive Chamber of Commerce moments. For example...
Ahhhh yah, good times.
@dylans Nice!
@jaybate-1.0 Thats what Im sayin!!! C5 stays until proven otherwise. C5 last night 21 & 10 and 4 steals and a block. That is stud stats right there. That is OU Blake Griffin stuff.
Coach Self, I think, has to at least hint that he will tighten his bench. It'll keep everyone else off guard.
Why on earth would he cut Bragg and Diallo's minutes to almost nothing when he knows both of them can help? It doesnt make any sense and I hope he doesnt to it.
@drgnslayr No they arent the same team. In mind and body, they are different. I seem to recall @jaybate-1.0 mentioning a crucible of some sort and it seems they have come out of it stronger. I really think the team benefited from their over seas trip to Korea last summer. They are fighters and have developed that tougher mentality needed to win games in tough situations. I really think had they played UC Irvine last season that they would have lost the game, or at very least been a much much closer game. Last night, they were clearly bothered by the sheer size of UCI in the first half. Then they got over it and fought hard, took it to them.
Had they shot to their average on 3ptas it would have been a 40 point win.
I think thats a good sign.
I mean if KU can lock down on a much bigger team on a night when their treys arent falling and win the game comfortably, then against the rest of the big 12, they will face similar circumstances and be able to stay focused, not panic and just lock down on defense, grind out a win.
I like this team. They have an orbital ceiling that they havent reached yet.
I hope Coach Self doesnt shorten his rotation, especially the C5. Its working!
Do I think KU will go undefeated in Big 12 play? Not even. But I like our chances very very much to at least share the conference title for our #12th.
@drgnslayr In honor of our game tonight and our start in the Big 12 on Saturday against Baylor, I am going to rewatch Inglourious Basterds. Let the madness begin!!
@jaybate-1.0 Solid stuff again Mr Bate. I cant blame Wigs for avoiding injury. Kid just needs to elevate his game now that he is in the big leagues, raise his PER and become an All Star.
JoJo. Have you seen the most recent picture of him? He is ripped!!! Easily he has 20 more lbs of muscle and that is a conservative estimate. I have hope that he will be back on the court when his foot lets him. Then he will go beast mode and make us all proud. yet another All Star.
PS. if it doesnt happen, I'll gladly help you in hounding said jackholes
@nuleafjhawk AHHH! Yes, that is awesome!!
@Crimsonorblue22 Thats some pretty damm good company there. Way to go Wiggs!!
If I have to pick on something, I would like to see Wiggs raise his PER at least 8 points. He does this and he becomes an All Star.
Anyone remember the original Scooby Doo cartoon? They ( The Globetrotters ) were in it once or twice. All those guys. Good stuff.
@kansas-oats Wait a minute. There was a goat there?? When? Lets see... I lived in Lawrence from 97 til about summer 02 I think, so around 5 years. I visited that Yellow Sub quite often. One of the best sub shops around. I really didnt go into the Crossing too often. Maybe once or twice. I certainly would have remembered a goat! Well, at least I think I would have remembered. Good times. Probly forgot most of them. LOL
@nuleafjhawk It is! You are right. Its all mental. Perry is every bit as good as Niang is, just minus the killer instinct.
@jaybate-1.0 Im off the charts excited for Kaintucky to come get their arses whipped in a month. Im a close second excited about getting to sweep Texas this season and for the foreseeable future. AFH South?
@wrwlumpy Im still pisst at him for what he did to Embiid. Tossing him on the court like that with no foul. I think this is just delayed Karma.
@VailHawk they better bomb away 20 + if they hit at least their average, they keep the lanes open and make it easier for KU to score inside.
I remember Russel Robinson talking just prior to midnight madness in 07. He said, not specifically, that he was ready to get back on the court and win an NC for us, the fans and for KU. That was real talk. He meant that stuff.
Oh Perry, he is a good player but he just doesnt have the swagger that past KU players have had. He is too soft spoken. He doesnt have that killer instinct. This year, our boys with the best Killer Instinct are Frank and Selden. Ice in their veins.
@jayballer54 I like the way you think man. Iowa state isnt as big a threat to us with Naz Long out and with The Mayor gone. Lets face it, Coach Prohm might be good but I really doubt he is equal to or greater than Hoiberg. I have great respect for Hoiberg but I hated facing his teams. The jury is still out on Prohm, on how tough he will coach but Im not as worried about him.
If Iowa state can steal one game against OU then it makes life easier for KU. We will hold sway at home in The Phog and steal some games away from our tougher opponents like OU and ISU and Baylor this year. Not all of them but they should win enough road games to give us a fighting chance at winning the conference out right again.
SIde note, and one I love to mention; We are going to absolutely destroy Kaintucky on 1/30/16. Judgement day will be upon those soft blue kitties in the form of 16,300 wild rabid fans breaking sound noise decibel levels.
@RockChalkinTexas As a kid I remember watching the Globetrotters on tv. Meadowlark was one of my favorite.
@HighEliteMajor Solid post with solid points of perspective. A few questions come to mind. Lets look at the 08 team vs this team. The 08 team had mostly juniors and seniors as does this one. Shady and Collins were the only Sophomores if I am not mistaken. Rush, Chalmers both Juniors. Everyone else Senior. Shady started as a soph, didnt start as a rookie. Collins could have started.
Bragg and Diallo could be comparable to Shady in terms of athletic ability. I honestly dont remember if Shady was strong enough to hold his spot on the block during his freshmen year, or if he was savvy enough to play good help defense, or where his offense was. Im sure a quick check on Kenpom could answer a couple of those questions.
Quick Caveat: I am not saying I think Lucas and Traylor are even close to Kaun and DBlock in this comparison.
From what I have seen now is that Bragg and Diallo have such issues and consequently need time to develop. They wont get starters minutes until Coach is satisfied that they are ready. But I agree that he has to GIVE them that time to develop.
I think Coach Self has to give them this time to get better. He risks too much in the future. Losing credibility with future recruits in terms of being able to see the court and losing face with the Jayhawk nation for not letting his players develop on the court.
Remember Cole on that 08 team? Freshmen, didnt play a lot until the UNC game. All American his Junior year, lottery pick in the draft. He needed time to develop.
Another point Id like to make with this comparison is that KU won it all in 08 and this years team is very comparable to that one. KU will make another deep run in the tournament this season. They have all of the pieces. Its been 4 years since '12 and 8 years since our NC. We are due, its gonna happen. And, I also believe that Coach Self will let Bragg and Diallo play more. The reasons for out number the reasons against. I can see both Diallo and Bragg having games late in the season and possibly into March Madness that could be difference makers for us, comparable to what Cole did to UNC. They are both too good, too talented for things not to click before too long.
One last final question. Could Coach Self be intentionally holding Bragg and Diallo back in the hope that they will come back next season? I mean, it would benefit him and KU if that happened.
@Texas-Hawk-10 Im not certain that anybody on here thinks KU is head and shoulders above OU.
For me personally, I think KU and OU will share the conference title. But, that also depends on which team reaches its ceiling first and which team keeps improving. Which team can gain that higher level of play through non quantifiable factors like focus and sheer will. KU has a higher ceiling imo. KU has already proven they can win tough games against harsh competition just by sheer will as evidenced by this summer. They literally had to grind out wins. It made them tougher. OU didnt have that bonus experience.
OU and KU actually play the same tempo per Kenpom. Its a toss up who will win either game they play each other.
@JRyman I wonder why Kimmel is a KU fan? Did he get that shirt himself? Did his wifey get it for him? Could he have gotten it from one of his actor friends with Kansas ties like Mr Rudd or Ummmm gah! That other guy. The other funny one. Rob Riggle?
@JayHawkFanToo Yep. KU's bench has no equal. I wonder if Coach Self will continue to keep his bench this deep throughout the season. I mean, it has to be a huge advantage having guys like Diallo, Bragg, Greene and Svi and Traylor coming off the bench. It must make life miserable for opposing teams because they have to game plan for sooo many different line ups, it just becomes impossible to cover all the bases. KU can go small, KU can go big, KU can play fast or slow. It doesnt matter.
I like the shark comparison. I also like the wolf pack comparison. These guys are legit this year. They have it all and whats worse for opposing teams is that KU will get even better! They havent reached their ceiling yet.
@drgnslayr Sweet! Im literally salivating in anticipation of this game! UK doesnt stand a chance. All their #1 recruiting class freshmen are about to be scalped by the Basterds!
KU will destroy UK. Im sure Coach Self will talk it up like its not a big thing but we know better. Even though there are only 3 players on that team left from last year, its still a revenge game for us. There will be no prisoners taken. There will be no mercy. Kenpom has us as 8 point favorites. It wont even be that close.
@drgnslayr I know, thats what I thought too when I saw Hawaii hang 80 on them! Even if OU had an off night, they should have kept them under 70 points at least. Still, statistically speaking this far into the season, OU is the biggest threat to KU. But, you're right, I think that Lon is a great coach but Self is better at building defensive greatness. That is going to win us the conference.
@jayballer54 Thanks man! To you as well. Happy holidays.
I do believe there are some fellow KU sisters on here. ;) They might wish to be acknowledged
@DoubleDD No, I totally agree. This year these guys are loaded and there isnt one team amongst the best that stands out as one that can hang with KU. Maybe OU just had an off night, or is it a trend but they are the team that will be in KU's way of winning out in the Big 12. I mean as far as winning the conference and the conf tourney. They can do it this year. But, we most certainly will get OU's top effort and it will be two games, possibly 3 that will be hard fought.
Given a second chance at Michigan St, Im betting they beat them. Im also betting they get a second chance at Michigan St in March. KU, Virginia, Michigan St and Xavier are my one seed guesses this early and if it plays right, KU could match up with Michigan St in the Final Four.
One last thing. OU is most definitely a title contender and will most definitely bring their A game to KU and vice versa. Like @REHawk said up there The difference maker for KU in that is their deep bench. There really isnt much drop off between their starting 5 and their second 5. Plus in the battle between Lon Kruger and Bill Self, Coach Self has the upper hand. He is a better coach.
@jaybate-1.0 I stayed away from Kenpom and the other stat sites last season because I got to focused on the numbers and became distracted by them to the point of it affecting my judgement about picking my brackets. I picked last seasons brackets solely based on how I thought teams were doing. I trusted my gut feeling and it worked. But, I love stats. Its fascinating.
For example, KU has not been this balanced as per Kenpom on offense and defense since the 10-11 season. We know what happened that year. KU got overconfident and lost to VCU. Both games we play against Texas this year will be revenge games for KU fans. The stats say we will sweep UT and we should. But there are so many other factors involved in the game that cant be measured by advanced stats. Players mentality, injuries, ref whistles, sweat on the court.
Kenpom says that right now, OU is going to win the conference based on numbers for this season thus far. I just dont buy that. There is no telling exactly when OU or KU will have an off game an get beat by TX or TCU.
Again though, I really like seeing KU having such a great balance on both offense and defense. Ive been saying that KU is due for a great year. It seems to cycle in 4 year increments in the Self era and this is the fourth year since our last final four appearance.
@jaybate-1.0 Cheick will definitely cash that Cheick in very soon!!
@Jyhwk_InTigrtwn This is off topic but,
Steph Curry man! I thought he was going to be good in the NBA when he came out of Davidson. But, OMG he actually has a legit chance to be the best player in the league this season, again. Then looking out long term, he has a legit chance to be one of the GOATs!
@jaybate-1.0 Compare and contrast that with Frank, Devonte and Selden's rebound numbers. Might be interesting ;)
@jayballer54 I dunno man. I'll take anybody at this point.
@BeddieKU23 I agree that this years team is tough, tough, tough. Even when one guy has an off night, we got someone else to step right up. Thats not very prevalent among the other best of the best. Im going to temper my opinion and say that they fall somewhere in between the 08 and the 12 team. In an alternate universe Im not certain that this KU team could beat either of those teams but it would die trying.
Stats wise, KU has not been this balanced and efficient on both offense and defense in a few years. Since 2011, its been that long.
OU is looking scary good so far and OMG Im not looking forward to playing them twice but I am, and I would not be one bit surprised to see them share the conference with us at the end.
ISU just lost Naz Long but they are still scary.
WVU is going to be tough to beat twice too.
The rest of our conference, there will be no easy games away from AFH. Except maybe Kstate who we are going to do naughty things to both times while making Bramlage into AFH West again.
@drgnslayr Solid. Very well put.
It does seem though, that Bragg and Diallo get the quick hook and they need playing time to be ready for March. We are less than a couple weeks away from the start of conference and they need to be ready for that too. That being said, Perry and Traylor were our best bigs last night. They both played extremely well and deserved a lot of credit for that big win.
2 years ago KU was soft and very young. I do not expect a repeat of that home game against SDSU. I believe KU will win tonight. The final margin of victory is in question though.
I want to add that KU is a very tough team this year. On par with, most recently, the 11-12 team. Totally different team but still, same toughness and most importantly, maturity and experience! KU will not let SDSU win. If they can at least shoot to their averages and keep the floor spaced, pass well out of post traps, which they can, then KU should win by a comfortable margin.
Im not as certain of SDSU's toughness, other than they will get amped just by having KU there and their fans will also be amped. KU needs to take the wind out of their westcoast sails immediately. Couple stops, couple treys, couple lobs to kill their spirits.
@REHawk Im actually surprised that Selden isn't in there at all. IMO, he could be a late lottery pick by seasons end
@HighEliteMajor Yep
@jaybate-1.0 They cant beat them to the trey line all the time. KU has 6 guys that can all knock it down from there. Im certain teams will try to take that away from us. They either will or they wont, there is no try. If they do and opens things up for us inside where our Frankenfive will make them pay.
