UC Irvine @ da PHOG • Dec 30, 2015 04:21 AM

This first half of this game seemed reminiscent of the WUG teams we faced and how we got back to basics in the second by not being intimidated by the other players. And of course a good ass chewing by Coach at half. ROCK CHALK!

Lagerald hit a 3. Guess it wasn't mono.

UCONN beat UT.

@wrwlumpy Jealous?

RIDLEY BREAKS HIS FOOT • Dec 28, 2015 09:15 PM

@wrwlumpy You would be surprised as to how much faster Cam got this year. He can run with the best of them. Ibeh won't be able to replace the presence that Cam was. Plus Ibeh fouls like Tarik!!! The only other big they have is Connor Lammert who they want to be an outside shooter.

@jayballer54 It was his left foot. Haven't heard how long. Indefinitely is longer than 4 weeks for sure.

Shaka Smart says timetable for Cam Ridley's return will be known after Tuesday morning surgery.

IT gets real now • Dec 28, 2015 06:19 PM

@BeddieKU23 ......hot off the presses:

Jeff Goodman
ESPN Insider

Texas senior big man Cameron Ridley broke his foot in practice Sunday and will have surgery Tuesday.

The school said Ridley will be out indefinitely.

The 6-foot-9 Ridley, a highly touted recruit coming out of high school, hadn't quite lived up to expectations from when he was brought into the program by former coach Rick Barnes.

However, Ridley is averaging career highs of 12.7 points, 10 rebounds and 3.4 blocks through the first 11 games of the season under new coach Shaka Smart.

Texas is 8-3 and faces UConn in Austin on Tuesday night. The Huskies are missing center Amida Brimah, who broke his finger during practice Dec. 21 and is out six to eight weeks.

IT gets real now • Dec 28, 2015 04:10 PM

@jaybate-1.0 Horns play UConn tomorrow night. They haven't really played anyone besides UNC. Tomorrow will be a harbinger of how that team does against a quality opponent.

Living in Austin, I want nothing more than to shut Shaka up. Listening to him on his weekly program where the host sucks up to him is reminiscent to a brown noser at work. Feeds softball questions to him and they have created this belief that they are going to win the Big 12. Time for a payback of all paybacks.

RIP Meadowlark • Dec 28, 2015 12:45 PM

Very fond memories of watching the Globetrotters.

!meadwolark.jpg ↗
Found this quote from Wilt:

“Meadowlark was the most sensational, awesome, incredible basketball player I’ve ever seen,” Chamberlain said in a television interview not long before he died in 1999. “People would say it would be Dr. J or even Jordan. For me, it would be Meadowlark Lemon.”

A gifted athlete with an entertainer’s hunger for the spotlight, Lemon, who dreamed of playing for the Globetrotters as a boy in North Carolina, joined the team in 1954, not long after leaving the Army. Within a few years, he had assumed the central role of showman, taking over from Reece Tatum, whom everyone called Goose, the Trotters’ long-reigning clown prince. Tatum was a superb ballplayer whose on-court gags — or reams, as the players called them — had established the team’s reputation for laugh-inducing wizardry at a championship level.

By then, Lemon, who was 6 feet 3 inches and slender, was the team’s leading light, such a star that he played center while Chamberlain played guard.

This was a time, however, when the Trotters were known not merely for their comedy routines and basketball legerdemain; they were also a formidable competitive team. Their victory over the Minneapolis Lakers in 1948 was instrumental in integrating the National Basketball Association, and a decade later their owner, Abe Saperstein, signed a 7-footer out of the University of Kansas to a one-year contract before he was eligible for the N.B.A.: Wilt Chamberlain.

This is one I am not going to get to watch as I don't have any freakin' cable or DirectTV and I'm not taking the chance of getting another freakin' virus off of some shady firstrow site. I'll listen to Jayhawk radio and make my own images.

@Crimsonorblue22 Thanks. I got the wrong team. Forgot about that one.

For nuleafjhawk. KANSAS JAYHAWKS • Dec 19, 2015 04:18 PM

Speaking of the Jayhawks, we went to the Austin Spurs D League game to celebrate my husband's birthday and an elderly (90s) gentleman sitting a row behind us at the far end had a Jayhawk hat on. He was with a guy probably in his 50s. A noteable playing for the Spurs team was former foe we faced -- Deshaun Thomas (Ohio St) -- and for the Rio Grande Valley Vipers were BIG Josh Smith (Georgetown) and Aqeel Quinn (San Diego St.). Sherron was not on the Vipers team and was not listed on the roster either even though he was listed there several weeks ago. After the game we headed out and while waiting for my hubby to get out of the restroom, the old man came by so I hollered RockChalk Jayhawk. He was from Prairie Village down visiting his grandson. I showed him my Jayhawk earrings I had on and he said he had never seen the likes of them before. The grandson had travelled to see 2 USC and one UCLA game and to SA for the 08 championship. We talked about going to Houston in April!!!!!!! Always fun to meet a fellow Hawk fan.

Josh Smith had to change his shorts after the start of the game as his shorts kept falling down when he was running down the court! Was too funny. He weighs 350 now.

@jaybate-1.0 Riggins has an outdoor UTube channel. I forget the name though I posted it a while back. Google his name and you'll find it. He hunts, fishes and pontificates. Too good!
