ISU getting whipped at home • Dec 11, 2015 09:37 PM

BS from Big XII:

December 11, 2015

The Conference has reviewed the Iowa - Iowa State men's basketball game and determined the host school handled its postgame celebration protocol consistent with Big 12 Conference Rules related to sportsmanship and ethical conduct. Game management staff appropriately handled their primary responsibility of ensuring the safety of the teams, coaches, officials and administrative staffs. We were sorry to hear about the unfortunate accident with Des Moines Register reporter Randy Peterson and wish him a speedy recovery.

The Conference considers this matter resolved and will have no further comment.

@brooksmd I know, I caught that. She said she played at UConn when Andrea was there. You would think she would have gotten Kansas University right.

@JRyman I know. But why would he defend/deflect the issue? Must be on pain medication to not realize how stupid that sounded. DOH.

ISU getting whipped at home • Dec 11, 2015 03:57 PM

We will see if the Big XII takes the same action they did when ksucks fans stormed and that farm boy clipped JamTray. How long do you think it will take?

I read a tweet from the reporter whose leg got broke saying it wasn't the fans who stormed the court, he just hooked legs with someone...................................................

Yeah right.

Travis Ford escorted out of his son's game:

Sporting News

By Ron Clements  @Ron_Clements

Updated at 12:32 a.m. ET

Travis Ford was just another parent Thursday night watching his son, Brooks, play a high school basketball game.

Unfortunately for Ford, he's recognizable in Stillwater, Okla., as the Oklahoma State basketball coach.

Ford said something during Stillwater High School's 63-51 loss to Bartlesville that got the attention of one of the officials. Stillwater radio's Bill Van Ness said the game was stopped and Ford was escorted from the gym. Van Ness said "a regular parent" probably would have been ignored.

Brooks Ford scored 12 points off the bench in the loss in Bixby.

Oklahoma State is 5-3 after consecutive losses to Tulsa and Missouri State. The Cowboys will face Minnesota (5-4) on Saturday at the Sanford Pentagon in Sioux Falls, S.D.

Looking for lots of energy and up-tempo tonight. Glad it is 7 PM. I think the team has gotten the message about not playing down to the opponent and needing to go out and play their game.

Anyone get and read Rock Chalk Weekly? This week's "Once a Jayhawk, Always a Jayhawk" feature is about a player (Clinton Johnson) from 1975-1978 who I dated when I was a senior in high school when he was a junior at Leavenworth High School. (No jokes allowed!) When he was a freshman at KU, that was the year that I went to every home game. It was a real flashback to read this morning.

That we allow Vandy to extend this streak tonight:bangbang:

936

Vanderbilt has made a 3-pointer in 936 consecutive games, a streak which began at the inception of the 3-point line in 1986-87. The Commodores rank second only to UNLV for the longest streak in Division I basketball. Vanderbilt, UNLV and Princeton are the only three schools in college basketball to have made at least one 3-pointer in every game played since the 3-point line was implemented.

Cheick • Nov 20, 2015 11:42 AM

I think it is really important that he has officially been cleared by the NCAA to travel with the team to Maui and not leaving him in Lawrence by himself especially since the hostage situation is taking place in Mali as I write. Imagine him being all by himself while that is going on in his homeland. He'll most certainly be worried about what is happening there but it will be good to be surrounded by his second family. Hope that all ends well there in Mali with no more blood shed.

Bracketology: Kansas' loss not as costly as some might think

November 18, 2015 3:04 am ET

Jerry Palm
CBS Sports

Last week, we unveiled my preseason bracket projection. The preseason bracket is unique in one important way. It is the only bracket I will do this season that tries to predict what the final bracket in March will look like.

Doing something like that before a single game has been played requires using a LOT of assumptions. If you follow college basketball regularly, you will not be surprised to learn that one of those assumptions is that nobody is going undefeated in the regular season. Oh, sure, it happened last year with Kentucky and the year before with Wichita State, but those are the only two teams in a quarter of a century to finish the regular season without a loss. So, I like my chances with that assumption.

That brings us to Tuesday night. Kansas, one of my projected No. 1 seeds, lost to Michigan State in the Champions Classic in Chicago. Two good teams went at it and one of them had to lose.

However, that loss does not preclude Kansas from becoming a top seed this March. In fact, with the relative expected strength of the Jayhawks' schedule, they could probably lose another handful of games before you start wondering if they can still be a No. 1 seed.

So, it's not time to hit the panic button yet. This isn't football. One loss isn't going to keep you out of the playoff, and it may not even keep you out of the top four.

A Pure Embarrassment • Nov 18, 2015 07:22 PM

@ralster I have the same issues with the progress (or lack thereof) of Lucas as everyone else. I didn't select him or anyone else individually to lay blame or focus on. I was putting my disappointment out there on the whole team. I sense people venting but honestly it is only the SECOND game of a very long season.

A Pure Embarrassment • Nov 18, 2015 12:04 PM

Yes it was disappointing but my gosh people, there are more important things going on in life than trashing kids, coaches and every other imaginable reason for this loss other than the fact that we just did not execute when the times were there. Knew this site and the other one would be OMG THE SKY IS FALLING. I'm more embarrassed that true "fans" are cutting and running. Perhaps each and every one on this team was given a real gut check and know that they ALL must get better going forward.

Think the Duke fans are saying it is the end of the road after their poor showing? Without Plumlee they would have had a score like our UK game last year.

The Champions Classic • Nov 16, 2015 02:57 PM

No. 13 Michigan State will be without junior Gavin Schilling when the Spartans face No. 4 Kansas in Tuesday's Champions Classic, coach Tom Izzo told ESPN on Monday.

Schilling continues to battle a case of turf toe, which he suffered last week during an exhibition game against Ferris State.

Without Schilling, the Spartans will have to rely more heavily on freshman Deyonta Davis against the Jayhawks' experienced frontcourt.

Davis became just the third Spartans player in program history to start his career with a double double after getting 21 points and 11 rebounds against Florida Atlantic.

WTF Is the New KU Mantra • Nov 05, 2015 04:15 PM

ESPN Power Rankings:

No. 4: KANSAS JAYHAWKS

Last Season: 27-9, 13-5 Big 12

It's hard to classify a season that ended in yet another Big 12 title (the 11th in a row for the Jayhawks) and NCAA tournament berth as a disappointment, but somehow, 2014-15 left folks wanting more out of KU -- mostly because there was so much to offer.

Yet from the beatdown handed out by Kentucky in the second game through the end-of-the-season loss to Wichita State, it never quite felt like the Jayhawks got it together. Injuries certainly had something to do with that, as did Cliff Alexander's fizzle due to NCAA issues. Still, there could have been more.

Which makes this season all the more interesting. There isn't that much chatter about Kansas, despite a roster that returns Perry Ellis, Frank Mason III, Wayne Selden Jr., Jamari Traylor and Devonte' Graham and adds three ESPN 100 recruits.

Maybe that's a good thing. Kansas won't sneak up on anybody, but after sliding down the expectation ladder a year ago, the Jayhawks could very well make amends this season. -- Dana O'Neil

!espn.jpg ↗

Best Case: Kansas is legit, and this year's Jayhawks will win the Big 12 and have a great chance to reach the Final Four again under Bill Self. Like North Carolina, the Jayhawks have depth, size and experience coming back, and some new blood that will fit in nicely and even lead the way. The Jayhawks return their top three scorers from last season, including Ellis, a senior who is the leading candidate for Big 12 Player of the Year. He had the top usage percentage on the team, Mason had the most win shares, and Selden made the most 3-pointers. Sviatoslav Mykhailiuk and Carlton Bragg are future pros, but Selden could be the key performer. If he takes over a consistent, primary scoring role, Kansas can cut the nets down.

!franki.jpg ↗
Frank Mason III Jamie Squire/Getty Images

Worst Case: Kansas wins the Big 12 again. What? Are you kidding? Kansas has won 11 straight Big 12 titles. Which team is knocking the Jayhawks off of the top spot? The answer is . . . nobody in the Big 12. Kansas may not cut the nets down for a national title, but there will be another Big 12 banner in Allen Fieldhouse. Ask yourself, what makes this the year that the Big 12 will fight back?

!1.jpg ↗
"They have talented perimeter guys and a lot of depth in the frontcourt. They are the one team in the Big 12 that can bring waves of big guys. They can overwhelm you athletically in the paint and on the glass. With their personnel and track record, they are definitely the front-runner to win their 12th straight league title."

@nuleafjhawk I casually followed throughout the season and then the last month or so when I could catch an article/able to watch. I immediately thought that it was more or less the barrage of hits/runs that they had been putting up to get to the ALCS and the fact that they were behind in something like 7 games and coming back to win through the ALCS and the World Series.

@Crimsonorblue22 or @brooksmd should be consulted for their expertise!

PITTSBURG STATE GORILLAS • Oct 30, 2015 06:32 PM

My husband graduated from PSU.

We are again "flooding down in Texas." Same places that flooded this Memorial Day (Wimberly / Blanco River) are getting up to 18 inches of rain and there are emergency evacuations going on. I had 9 inches last weekend and today we've had another 5! I was off today to go to doctor at 8 am and on the way a fence had washed out and somebody's cow herd were walking down and in the highway. Glad to be home even though it took me 4 hours.

@wissoxfan83 The best team won!

Formula One race was here last weekend. On Monday during my noon walk I had on my Jayhawk earrings and necklace. Some tourists asked me if I was from here and asked for directions to the river and after the directions, the guy's wife said I saw your earrings. They were from Wisconsin and said they were huge Bo fans and were wondering what lies ahead for their team after he retires. They complimented our program and wished us luck! Good people. They had a friend with them from England who had come to see Sir Elton John perform after the race.
