A new attorney started in our firm Wednesday and his bio said he was a grad of MU. Upon being introduced to him in the kitchen, I shook hands, said my name and promptly belted out Rock Chalk Jayhawk. He just looked at me! Later in the day as he was being given a tour of the library by me by the librarian, she stopped at my desk and asked if I had met him yet. He said yes and then saw all my KU paraphenalia and remarked "I can't even begin to talk about basketball now since our team is soooo bad." I pointed to my signed pic of Kelly and he proclaimed that they would have been better off staying in the Big 12. I can foresee lots of razing in the future by me! :-)

It's %&$#+?@ raining again this morning and had torrential rains overnight.

!!!SURVIVOR!!! • May 28, 2015 06:15 PM

Never watched the show but couldn't resist posting:

KU alum, ex-NBA big man Scot Pollard to join 'Survivor' cast

!PI-CBK-KU-Scot-Pollard-02-052615_vadapt_955_high_0.png ↗

Scot Pollard scored 1,209 points and blocked 218 shots with the Jayhawks from 1993-97.

KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- Scot Pollard on a desert island. Because why the hell not?

According to the blog "Inside Survivor," the former Kansas men's basketball star is slated to appear as a cast member on the 32nd season of the hit television show. The Survivor episodes in question are scheduled to air in February 2016.

The 6-foot-11 center scored 1,209 points and blocked 218 shots with the Jayhawks from 1993-97. Pollard played 11 seasons in the NBA from 1997-2008, mostly as a reserve, averaging 4.4 points and 4.6 rebounds per pro contest.

But during his time in the Association, the 40-year-old baller was known more for his individual style -- bleached hair one year, shaved the next, painted fingernails -- than his game, per se. A free thinker, the former California prep was one of the game's most, um, colorful players, in more ways than one:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=B8nBE8WNFxw ↗

Since leaving basketball, Pollard has dipped several toes in the entertainment industry and is currently an analyst for Indiana Pacers games on FOX Sports Indiana. The former KU big man served as a producer on the Wilt Chamberlain biopic Jayhawkers, released in 2014, in which he also had a small role, playing ex-Kansas great B.H. Born.

Since getting bit by the acting bug, Pollard has usually found himself cast as basketball players, bad guys or psycho killers. He played the title role in the small 2013 horror film Axeman at Cutter's Creek:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=6rJj41gj0C0 ↗

And who wouldn't want to be stranded, miles from civilization, with a guy who can swing an axe like that?

Warriors or Cavaliers? • May 28, 2015 05:55 PM

Warriors for sure, especially after the way the Cavs traded Wiggins. Who woulda thunk it that the Hawks and Rockets (who had the best records in the league at one point) would go 0 and 1 in the playoffs. Would be nice to have some new faces in the final. PLUS we get to root for BRush, right? :100:

MEMORIAL DAY FLOODING • May 27, 2015 03:50 PM

@nuleafjhawk That's going to require that some "hard rain gonna fall" upstream. Horseshoe Bay along with Marble Falls (and me) were under tornado warning Monday afternoon. It luckily lifted before getting into Marble Falls proper. We lost trees/limbs with the "tornadic winds."

MEMORIAL DAY FLOODING • May 27, 2015 12:35 PM

@approxinfinity WAY low. It is deemed full at 681' MSL. No boat ramps have been open on the lake for almost 3 years due to the severe drought. So this is wonderful that the lake is coming up but it came at quite a cost for some who live along it. The Blanco River in Wimberley rose 26' in just a little over an hour and that is where that one house with 12 people in it was completely swept away. They found the dog IN A TREE and the husband but not the other 11 yet. Just tragic. Back in 2007 the lake rose 50' in just 2 days after 19" of rain fell just to the west of us.

What one portion of the Blanco River looked like after:

A co-worker's dad shot this first video of the Pedernales River on Sunday. This was bone dry for the past 3+ years. All this flowed into my Lake Travis.

MEMORIAL DAY FLOODING • May 27, 2015 11:44 AM

Just a couple of photos to show the difference of 5 days on my Lake Travis after close to 12" rain over the last 4 days. The lake was at 629' MSL and is now at 657' MSL. Nothing like what south of us (Wimberley) have encountered nor in Houston but just amazing that our cove that was bone dry is now completely full! Hope @Jayhawrock78 is safe in Houston.

This is not my cove but one just up the lake from me.

FWIW: Garry Parish has this on Kelly:

  1. Indiana Pacers
Kelly Oubre Jr., SF, Kansas: If the Pacers genuinely want to play faster in the future than Oubre is a perfect roster addition. He's an athletic wing who developed well from November to March at Kansas. And the fact that he handled his early adversity well speaks to a maturity level that isn't always evident in one-and-done prospects.

@joeloveshawks @drgnslayr You would think that all those prognosticators that thought they were somebody would have learned their lesson after getting on the Rick Barnes ship and loudly proclaiming that UT would beat us last year. Sorry I missed you guys. They don't broadcast Rangers' games on radio here in Austin - it's the Astros - and I don't have cable to watch either. Not a fan of Rangers. Joe Ross 2 days 1 hour ago

To the extent that Jaybate made comments that were timely and relevant, his participation was welcomed by many. But many began to feel that his commentary became increasingly more about vainglorious attention-seeking and building a personal reputation than anything substantive. For their part, kusports never banished him. He has exiled himself to the netherworld outside of this forum, which he would not have done were he completely happy here. He has chosen his own participation level.

..

RJ King 2 days ago

Yeah, I know Joe. But many of his comments were interesting and thought-provoking, and we could just scroll past the ego-centrical ramblings. I would happily trade crashing into the super annoying mano y mano dialogue that populates this site now, for the good old days of eccentric Jaybate essays.

..
Joe Ross 1 day, 22 hours ago

Ill say this and Ill sit quietly, leaving you the last word. If Jaybate were here he himself would admit to being involved in many of those trash talking exchanges. This is not a judgment, but rather an objective statement of fact. He would, of course, propose justification for those statements and at the same time characterize his opponents in some negative light. I know this to be true as I was engaged with him in many of those sparring sessions and we used a similar tactic. Having said that, when his focus was on sports he had the potential to be very insightful. Its just that if we're going to be fair to the body of his contributions, we have to include the fact that he was certainly not a stranger to trash talking.

RJ King 17 hours, 14 minutes ago

I have no last word, except to say that you are absolutely right. I suppose absence does make the heart grow fonder.

Naz long update • May 07, 2015 08:29 PM

@Crimsonorblue22 Yeah about how they tried to spin the fact that Cheick Diallo signed with us and "would be playing in Ames" in a Kansas uniform. When I posted on their sight I was called "scumbag" and that poster said they OWNED the Big 12. After the loss in the tourney, you wouldn't believe what the fans wrote on that blog about what losers the team and Hoiberg were. Can you say WHINY A$$ BABIES?

@JayHawkFanToo I realized that after posting at work, didn't get to go back (work to do) and have now fixed. Thanks.

Consequently, it's time to reassess the Top 25 (and one).

Here's an updated version:

  1. NORTH CAROLINA

•Notable players definitely gone: J.P. Tokoto

•Others expected to leave: None

•Notable players expected to return: Marcus Paige, Brice Johnson, Kennedy Meeks, Isaiah Hicks, Justin Jackson, Joel Berry, Joel James, Natre Britt, Theo Pinson

•Others expected to join the roster: Kenny Williams, Luke Maye

Why the Tar Heels are ranked here: The top four scorers -- and every rotation player except J.P. Tokoto -- are returning from a team that finished 11th in KenPom's final ratings and made the Sweet 16. The late addition of Kenny Williams adds a shooter to the roster. So the Tar Heels are talented, experienced and deep, which is a nice combination.

  1. MARYLAND

•Notable players definitely gone: Dez Wells, Evan Smotrycz, Richaud Pack, Jon Graham

•Others expected to leave: None

•Notable players expected to return: Melo Trimble, Jake Layman, Dion Wiley, Jared Nickens, Damonte Dodd, Michal Cekovsky

•Others expected to join the roster: Diamond Stone, Robert Carter, Jaylen Brantley

Why the Terrapins are ranked here: Maryland is among the big winners this offseason because two potential pros (Melo Trimble and Jake Layman) both passed on the NBA Draft while a five-star recruit (Diamond Stone) committed. Add Georgia Tech transfer Robert Carter to the roster, and there's no ceiling on what's possible for Mark Turgeon's Terrapins.

3. KANSAS

•Notable players definitely gone: Kelly Oubre, Cliff Alexander

•Others expected to leave: None

•Notable players expected to return: Perry Ellis, Frank Mason, Wayne Selden, Jamari Traylor, Brannen Greene, Devonte' Graham, Sviatoslav Mykhailiuk, Landen Lucas

•Others expected to join the roster: Cheick Diallo, Carlton Bragg

Why the Jayhawks are ranked here:

So many quality pieces from a Big 12 championship team are returning that it would be silly to have Kansas any lower than this -- especially after the addition of five-star forward Cheick Diallo. In other words, yes, the Jayhawks should win a 12th straight league title under Bill Self.

  1. KENTUCKY

•Notable players definitely gone: Karl-Anthony Towns, Aaron Harrison, Andrew Harrison, Trey Lyles, Devin Booker, Dakari Johnson, Willie Cauley-Stein

•Others expected to leave: None

•Notable players expected to return: Tyler Ulis, Marcus Lee, Alex Poythress, Derek Willis, Dominique Hawkins

•Others expected to join the roster: Skal Labissiere, Isaiah Briscoe, Charles Matthews, Mychal Mulder

Why the Wildcats are ranked here: It's amazing that John Calipari missed on basically every high-level prospect he targeted over the past month. What's also amazing is that he'll still have a roster talented enough to make a fifth Final Four in six seasons.

  1. IOWA STATE

•Notable players definitely gone: Bryce Dejean-Jones, Dustin Hogue, Daniel Edozie

•Others expected to leave: None

•Notable players expected to return: Georges Niang, Abdel Nader, Monte Morris, Naz Long, Jameel McKay, Matt Thomas

•Others expected to join the roster: Deonte Burton, Hallice Cooke, Nick Noskowiak

Why the Cyclones are ranked here: Fred Hoiberg has turned Iowa State into a consistent winner, and there's no reason to think that'll change next season given that the Cyclones' top three scorers are returning. Consequently, they'll have a shot at the Big 12 title, assuming their homecourt advantage remains one of the nation's best.

  1. DUKE

•Notable players definitely gone: Quinn Cook, Jahlil Okafor, Justise Winslow, Tyus Jones

•Others expected to leave: None

•Notable players expected to return: Grayson Allen, Amile Jefferson, Matt Jones, Marshall Plumlee

•Others expected to join the roster: Derryck Thornton, Brandon Ingram, Chase Jeter, Luke Kennard, Sean Obi, Antonio Vrankovic

Why the Blue Devils are ranked here: Derryck Thornton's reclassification and commitment to Duke was big and crucial to replacing Tyus Jones, and the Blue Devils backed that by landing in-state star Brandon Ingram. Is this recruting class as talented as last year's recruiting class? No. But it'll allow Duke to endure the loss of its top four scorers as well as anybody could've reasonably expected.

  1. VIRGINIA

•Notable players definitely gone: Darion Atkins, Justin Anderson

•Others expected to leave: None

•Notable players expected to return: Malcolm Brogdon, Anthony Gill, Mike Tobey, London Perrantes, Marial Shayok, Evan Nolte, Devon Hall

•Others expected to join the roster: Darius Thompson, Jack Salt, Jarred Reuter

Why the Cavaliers are ranked here: Justin Anderson entering the NBA Draft dropped Virginia from the top spot. The Cavaliers will still be good. But they'll now be without two of the top four scorers from a team that won the ACC this past season.

  1. MICHIGAN STATE

•Notable players definitely gone: Travis Trice, Branden Dawson

•Others expected to leave: None

•Notable players expected to return: Denzel Valentine, Marvin Clark, Matt Costello, Gavin Schilling, Alvin Ellis, Bryn Forbes, Lourawls Nairn

•Others expected to join the roster: Caleb Swanigan, Eron Harris, Deyonta Davis, Matthew McQuaid, Kyle Ahrens

Why the Spartans are ranked here: The loss of Travis Trice and Branden Dawson will hurt. But the addition of Eron Harris, a West Virginia transfer, should be a big boost, and a late -- not to mention surprising -- commitment from five-star prospect Caleb Swannigan gives Michigan State a possible star in the frontcourt who should contribute immediately.

  1. OKLAHOMA

•Notable players definitely gone: TaShawn Thomas, Frank Booker

•Others expected to leave: None

•Notable players expected to return: Buddy Hield, Isaiah Cousins, Jordan Woodard, Ryan Spangler, Khadeem Lattin, Dinjiyl Walker

•Others expected to join the roster: Akolda Manyang, Christian James, Rashard Odomes

Why the Sooners are ranked here: Buddy Hield's decision to return for his senior season means he could be a First Team All-American. It also means Kansas and Iowa State will have a third legitimate challenger for the Big 12 crown.

  1. GONZAGA

•Notable players definitely gone: Kevin Pangos, Gary Bell, Angel Nunez, Byron Wesley

•Others expected to leave: None

•Notable players expected to return: Kyle Wiltjer, Przemek Karnowski, Domantas Sabonis, Silas Melson, Kyle Dranginis, Eric McClellan, Josh Perkins

•Others expected to join the roster: None

Why the Zags are ranked here: Gonzaga is returning six of the top nine players from a team that won 35 games and made the Elite Eight of the NCAA Tournament. Kyle Wiltjer will have a strong case to be a preseason First Team All-American.

Cheick Diallo will play in Hilton Coliseum next year after all.

In a Kansas uniform.

The blue-chip big man verbally committed to the Jayhawks on Tuesday afternoon. He primarily chose Kansas over Kentucky and St. John's, who finished in a distant third.

What does this mean for the Cyclones?

Not much.

If you've been paying attention at all over the last few week, Iowa State hasn't been a serious contender for some time.

The Cyclones still have two scholarships to give this offseason before the 2015-16 campaign begins.
