The sky is falling
Whats wrong with the whole enchilada? This program is like an aging sports car that WAS the fastest most expensive most awesome car on the road. It can still hang around in a race but it needs some work to get it back to its glory days! I mean what is happening here? We cant win against top programs and our tournament record as of late is embarrassing compared to other top programs. Recruiting has gone in the toilette! Coach Self needs to rejuvenate this program before it becomes irrelevant. Who is to blame for the lack of development on the front court? Who is to blame for recruiting? Who is to blame for the Whole Enchilada? The answer is Coach Self is ultimately responsible for his teams development, recruiting, success, and who gets minutes. The whole dang program is headed for a nose dive next year if things continue down this path. What will happen if we whiff on recruiting and Bragg , Diallo, Ellis, Traylor, and Mickelson leave? Lucas and Lightfoot lead our frontcourt next year? Could Selden and Svi be done after this year? There are quite a few things that need addressed before this spirals out of control.

This was me last night!
Was this Coach Self letting our veterans play to show them that they are not all that and a bag of chips? Was this his way of letting our veterans know that Vick and Bragg are hungry and ready to take their spots? What adjustments does Self make over the coarse of the next month to keep this from happening again? Will the starting roles and minutes be distributed to others due to this poor outing? Was letting our guys nose dive a wake up call? I am still scratching my head wondering WHY? Why didn't Bragg and Mickelson play? Why didn't Svi and Greene put on a 3pt clinic last night? What was the purpose of last night?
FYI I am still crying.
I just want to stay in bed and CRY this morning.

to when this current cycle of players filters through. Some of what I am about to say is going to be unpopular with people and will even get me a few "you are a moron" responses but here it is... I think the current roster, at least the foundational pieces is dysfunctional both on a collective and on an individual basis. I am referring specifically to Mason, Selden, Ellis and Traylor.
I think Frank is a hard nosed player who wants to win in the worst way and I dig that but as a point guard (or a guard facilitating the offense) he falls short, he does not make the players around him better. On a fast break he will go up against a big man and try to score rather than dump it off to a trailing Jayhawk. Perry Ellis is a great, local student/athlete who can really score in many different ways but he is almost an example of the rare college "tweener" and without a dominant big man presence on the floor with him we get owned on the boards against teams with comparable size/talent. Wayne is Wayne, overall an extremely disappointing recruit who really hasn't improved like a guy with his talent should over the course of a few years. He is another player who sort of lacks a true position on the floor and his inability to create scoring opportunities for himself is bewildering at times. And Jamari is undersized and under-talented... great story and I'm so happy for him in life but there is no reason he should be starting and logging major minutes for a top college program.
In my opinion we need a fresh start, a reboot for lack of a better term. We need pieces that fit.
On a positive note UK looks like a title contender again! Maybe its because he lets his talent on the floor? MAYBE?
After this summer of waiting for the season to start it almost feels over for me! Same early exit team we had last year! BUMMER
On a Positive Note maybe this will spark a Free Cheick Diallo campaign, Oh wait that's already happening.

I guess its going to take Cheick getting cleared to keep Traylor off the court so we can win against top tier teams? KU can not win with Traylor on the roster. Coach Self and Traylor might as well move to Florida and apply for a merrage license! What a let down! Didnt even give Mickelson a chace to defend after MSU got back in the game.
This isis thing is making me crazy! When I wake up all I can think about is isis, isis, isis! This discussion is going to give me PTSD and who the heck is going to pay for my treatment? @BeddieKU23 MSU can not match our bench or our starters. Any time we sub we take an advantage. After the first 10 minutes it will be close but as soon as we rest our starters our bench is going to wear them out! We have this by 10 or more all day long! We beat them last year and we will beat them this year. They lost 2 of their top 3 scorers from last year. I don't think they are going to be as good as advertised?
@HighEliteMajor You are correct. The problem is Coach Self doesn't have to ask you or anyone else on this board if its ok to play Traylor lol. I really wish Mickelson or Bragg would play next to Ellis period end of story and Traylor should be in only to rest Ellis and only if Bragg is sitting on 2 fouls before the half or 4 in the first of the 2nd half. He should be the 4th big period.

I also don't understand why the winners and losers of both games in the Champions Classic don't play each other for bragging rights?
For the first time since we started playing in the Champions Classic I feel confident that we will come out ahead tonight! I thought we had a chance most years but never have I felt like "We got this" before. This year is going to be great! I don't believe our season rides on weather Diallo gets the green light either! It surely cant hurt our situation but I honestly hope he will stay for 2 years. If he doesn't get cleared by the NCAA I think the chances are good he stays for year 2 and dominates college basketball! It would be great to see him and Bragg with our returning cast next year!

I didn't get to watch the game last week but the highlights were all transition lobs/dunks. How many points did we score in transition? I had mentioned that our guys were working on moving the ball up the court and posted a video of it and from what I saw on the highlight reel we certainly had some really good moments passing the ball forward. I LOVE seeing some experience on the floor! I think there were more assists in the last game than in the entire non conference schedule last year!

@BeddieKU23 The 2010-2011 team Self had enough talent to give 10 guys 10 minutes or more and KU was picked to win it all that year too. We should have too BUT we all know how that went... Self COULD give 10+ minutes to 9-10 guys this year depending on Cheick getting cleared or not?
@BeddieKU23 If he cuts the bench in half you cut Manning, Self, Vick, Young, and Lucas or Mickelson? If you are playing your starters for example and you sub in Greene/Svi the opposing team has to put their best defender on them. They can sub when we sub BUT their best guy will have to pick up Greene/Svi which leaves a gap in the defense if you ask me? A tired defender match up with Greene/Svi and a lesser opponent on one of our starters. Its going to be fantastic and we have 2 superb bench players in our back court to do it with. Then you have Ellis, Bragg, Trailor, and Mickelson in the front court. 3 seniors (two 5th year seniors) and a freshman McDonalds all American. Who has that? Who has a 4th big that is a 5th year Senior OR a McDonalds all American? This team is LOADED. Our Bench is why we are who we are this year and that's whats going to take us all the way until April. When Cheick Gets cleared its going to be even more problematic for opposing teams to keep up!

I come across a lot of information in my free time and SOME of it has me scratching my head like earlier this year when I said this Diallo thing COULD last until December? When I initially typed that up I deleted it and typed it again and finally decided to post it thinking WOW people are not going to trust anything that comes from me if this gets resolved before the season starts. The more things play out the more I think dang I am fishing in the right spots. I sure hope it doesn't drag out until December BUT this thing could go the distance?
What I don't get is how this decision favors the NCAA side?
On Monday, Self reiterated that statement, adding that, according to its bylaws, the NCAA is working in a partnership with the University to find the "right answer" to the situation, rather than the one that favors either side — Kansas or the NCAA.

Don't get too excited about 44 3pt attempts. Not saying it will never happen again BUT Coach Self hasn't changed his mindset since last year.

@Statmachine Coach Self said last week that the issue stemmed from his time at Our Savior New America. If the problem is with the curriculum then how did everyone else slide by the NCAA's fingers? We once speculated that it had to be his course work from Mali but that doesn't seem to be the case either? Coach Self has said this investigation was not normal and I can not imagine what the problem is or what is going on?
@wrwlumpy He knows what we all know. All the others from Diallos high school have been cleared BUT Diallo. If the problem stems from his old High School (Which we have been lead to believe) then WHF? Everyone else passed the eye test for the NCAA.
