Bill Self said KU is going to forget about this one.

"I'm not going to dwell on this one and make it out to be bigger than what it is." #kubball

The one game he should watch the most tape of he’s going to not even make this out to be bigger than it is.

Yeah makes perfect sense when you are absolutely exposed in any sport or business don’t go back to the drawing board and look to improve instead just keep doing what you’re doing. Genius

What exactly did we learn about this team today that wasn't already well known about this group? This is a bad defensive team, that's not new. This team struggles to score against more athletic teams, again, already well established with this group.

This freshmen class, while generally more athletic, is also a pretty low skilled group of players. KJ and Pettiford aren't really threats to score yet. Pettiford also can't handle being pressured on offense yet. KJ had 0 rebounds in 11 minutes today so his minutes weren't exactly positive today. When Clemence has played, he's the worst defender on the team amd that's saying something with this team.
Yesufu, there's a reason he didn't start at a mid major last year and that's because he's a very inconsistent player.

I'm not exactly sure what you're expecting Self to learn about this team that he's not already very aware of.

KU women won by 14 in Stillwater today to move to 13-5 overall and 4-4 in league play.

Zuby Ejiofor • Jan 28, 2022 11:58 PM

Zuby is probably going to be the odd man out in the big man rotation next season, especially if Jalen Wilson is back. That'd likely have Zuby 5th on the big man depth chart behind Wilson, Adams, Clemence, and Udeh. It doesn't mean Zuby doesn't have ability, but if he's 5th on the front court depth chart, he's not seeing many minutes when Self tightens his rotation.

@rockchalkjayhawk Still surprised mock drafts don't have him going #1. I know the other guys in the convo are good, but he's a freak of nature.

A lot of it is his lack of muscle. He is a stick and will need some time to bulk up in the NBA before he plays to his potential at that level. Once he adds bulk, does he lose any of what makes him a gifted player?

Those questions are why he's not #1 and Banchero and Smith are more likely to picked ahead of Holmgren.

Some rumors/talk of Bruce Pearl been talking to Louisville about the possibility being Coach. - -Has been looking at property on a lake in vicinity

Because Pearl is the guy you want helming your team when you are trying to fight NCAA allegations.

would be going from a team on probation - - to a team on probation. - -sure not a step up , would be a lateral move. doesn't make a lot of sense

Auburn to Louisville is definitely a step up. Louisville is a place you can win national championships at while Auburn is not. Pearl could have a monster at Louisville once their sanctions are done.

He has a very legit shot at winning the National title this year at Auburn. -- Auburn is no joke - -Louisville though IS a joke. Don't think you will have to worry about them making a title run. - Pearl ha the Auburn program at a level now where they are always going to filed a strong ball team even keel now with Louisville, unless they get a good Coach they are going to continue to waller in ehh ball, for sur not what they use to be

I'm not referring to this year specifically. Louisville has the same number of Final Four appearances as Auburn has NCAA tournament appearances. Louisville has 3 national titles to Auburn's 1 Final Four that came under Pearl. Louisville is also committed long term to basketball whereas basketball is an afterthought at Auburn. Louisville is a top 10 all time program and you're really going to try and argue Auburn that Auburn is an equal overall job? Sorry, but the two programs are not comparable to each other.

How many of those mocks where Braun is ahead of Ochai haven't been updated recently? Some of those sites only update about once a month or so at this time of year. I know ow the ones that update weekly definitely don't have Braun listed anymore.

@benshawks08 said in Post Texas Tech Thoughts.:

CB may have had an off night shooting (and boy were some of those OFF!!!), and he was certainly sped up when pressured out high with the ball leading to a few turnovers. But I think one play that has been overshadowed is the lob he threw to Och. Not sure we have another player on this team who would have had the confidence to put that ball up there for him. Och was fairly well guarded and just jumped over his man. If I remember correctly, that was at one of the many big moments in that game and had the red raiders worried about the back door for the rest of the game possibly freeing up just enough space to get off some of those outside shots late.

Braun didn't have an off shooting night against Tech, he hasn't shot well since conference play started. He's sub 40% from the field overall and only at 30% from 3 in 7 Big 12 games.

Braun has still been a net positive though unlike this year because he's finding other ways to contribute thankfully and helping Ochai get his looks.

I hope we don't let down after that huge amp-up at KSU. I wondered if it also might have had something to do with Bill losing his dad. If we scrap like we did on Saturday tonight... TT is doomed!

It's hard to beat us twice in this league. I would think we come amped and ready to kiss some Red Raider butt tonight!

This is a payback game, if KU isn't motivated by thar alone, there's a big problem.

Non-KU Games • Jan 23, 2022 08:56 PM

In women's basketball KSU's Ayoka Lee broke the single game scoring record today with 61 points in a 94-65 KSU win over 14th ranked OU. She was 23-30 from the field and 15-17 from the FT line.

Octagon of Room Game Thread • Jan 23, 2022 07:22 PM

@BeddieKU23 I generally agree about Braun, but his poor shooting against better teams is a concern going forward. Biggest difference this year is he isn't a black hole when his shot isn't falling. He's still finding other ways to positively impact games which he didn't do last season and has been huge for this team.

I also still believe this team has to find a way to get Remy going on offense if they're going to have any chance of making a run in the NCAA Tournament.

Bill Self Sr. • Jan 23, 2022 06:48 PM

This is probably the best the Big 12 has ever been top to bottom. Every team is currently ranked in the top 56 of Kenpom and top 63 of the NET rankings (9 of 10 in the top 48).

In terms of an NCAA resume, every road win is a quad 1 win, only KSU wouldn't be a quad 1 game on a neutral floor and half the league is quad 1 at home. Depending on the team, 13 or 14 Big 12 games this year will be quad 1 games for teams. There's literally not a bad loss to be had in conference this year from an NCAA resume perspective. This team is struggling right now, but still finding ways to win on the road against quality competition as KU is 3-1 on the road already through 6 games so there should be zero questions about the toughness of this team as a whole.

Lmao I love that people think KSU will be able to find another Huggins. They had Underwood and kept Brucey instead… get what you deserve

They had Frank Martin too that had them in the Elite 8 and regularly ranked.

Non-KU Games • Jan 23, 2022 12:21 AM

KU women beat Tech by 14 at home today. Ladies are now 12-4 on the year and 3-3 in league play. If they finish .500 or better in league play, they might actually have a good shot at making the NCAA tournament this year.

@mayjay said in Octagon of Room Game Thread:

@BeddieKU23 Maybe they thought it wasn't reviewable, so they huddled and "determined" that it was a 2 pt attempt.

In all seriousness, the most reasonable suggestion is that they called the foul prior to the shot as @nwhawkfan wrote.

If the foul was called prior to the shot, Dave would've been shooting those FT's instead of Ochai because Ochai wasn't touched until after he was in the air shooting. Refs just screwed up on that call plain and simple.
