score?

@drgnslayr The trick is to not make it a distraction. Too much and they don't know what's been going on on the court directly in front of them. I like the potential though.

The worst trade ever? • Jun 26, 2015 06:07 PM

No wonder the U.S. is full of loosers. No work ethic anymore and it's widely accepted.

Well that doesn't cut it for me, my family, or employees. I especially appreciate a player like Travis Releford or Tyrell Reed both of whom worked their tails off. Ben McLemore showed up at least 80% of the time. Not all OADs are lazy, but give me 3-4 year guys all day long.

Cliff • Jun 26, 2015 04:38 PM

Cliff screwed up when he tried to throw Bill under the bus. I seriously doubt NBA execs all the sudden would believe a 19 yo kid over a man who's turned out quiet a few NBA bigs. If Cliff had just played along he may have gotten in the second round.

U r cracking me up with Phil NOT being a genius. HOWLING!

I said he was a genius. He knows talent and how to coach it to championships.

Of course the OADS dog it in D1! U r cracking me up again. OAD stands for "over all dogging"!

I said I doubted LeBron would dog it much. He's too much of a competitor. Michael didn't take many days off. I would expect the next MJ or LBJ to not take days off either. I'm well aware of lazy athletes coasting on talent and reputaion.

Lebron would have taken a Siesta in D1 under current circumstances. U never would have drafted him! Howling!

Doubt it.

Omg!

are you at 16 year old girl? I thought you were an ancient male.

Wigs could easily turn out better than MIJOR!!!

He could, but it would be with a great deal of effort and luck. It won't be easy. No one else has been as good as MJ since MJ.

Wigs is soooooo young and has played semi hard only one season.

I don't think you are giving his effort enough credit. He will get better and he will learn how to give more, but I doubt he's half assing it.

He is clearly still avoiding injury and not going 100% until the first free agent contract! He will super nova after his next contract.

After he is finally physically mature and understands the game. He will like most players peak in years 4-10. Ages 22 (freak athletes) to 24 normal NBA calibre athletes is usually the beginning of the peak years.

Everyone in the NBA gets the game. The Cavs traded him because they knew he wouldn't light the candle till the second contract and because of the Adidas/Nike clash. Father Wigs has this opera doped out. Andrew plays for money only. Andrew plays big for big money only!

I go to my job for money too. I get satisfaction out of it, but I wouldn't show up if I wasn't paid.

Elementary, baby!!!!

Lebron just wants to be liked? HOWLING! U r like the next Chris Rock!!! U r crAcking me up.

It's an over-simplification that I thought you could follow given your deep introspect into various other topics. Thanks, but why in the world would he want to go back to Cleveland if it's not to be liked again? being liked makes him millions. Pages could be written, but I don't have the time.

Imagine what a genius Phil will become when he picks up Lebron!

His coach will look better too.

Unless Cavs ownership threatens to give Lebron's extended family zinc acid bathes over the casino bidness, LBJ ----> NYC ASAP!

Umm, ok.

Everything has changed but the way we think.--paraphrasing AE.

I'm not sure how I got sucked into this production, but all I really wanted to throw out there is: A year ago at this time Cleveland just got LeBron back and was in win today mode. They had just whiffed on their previous #1 overall pick and we're seemingly gunshy. So trade a realitively unknown (will be starter level, but will he be an all-star?) for an all-star. If you have one year to get it done it's easy to freak out. They panicked. I don't support the move and wish Andrew was playing with LeBron. But I understand why they did it.

I am not as eloquent nor willing to invest as much time as you're able to be. Sorry if this too misses the mark. I must now go and begin to remove my shingles. :(

He wasn't a disappointment at all, if you hypothesize that his management made sure he coasted to minimize injury risk and simply disappeared that last game when it was perhaps clear that Embiid was not returning and so there was no realistic chance of winning a ring. At that point, hypothetically speaking, the key thing was to end the season and injury risk as soon as possible; then come out and take the NBA by storm, right?

Not a winners attitude.
Wigs is a great player.

Wiggins is a great athlete and elite defender. He did little other than draw attention to make the team better on offense.

IMHO he just saved it for when the pay checks started.

Loser attitude. I wouldn't draft a kid that I honestly thought did that.

If we could imagine Lebron coming along today and having to play a season in D1, I have a hunch Lebron would have had almost an identical showing as Wigs had. Two show case scoring games, and a lot of coasting and working on some defensive fundamentals. Don't you?

No. I watched LeBron compete hard against H.S. competion. And then compete hard the next year against NBA competition. I just watched him play his heart out with little chance of winning in the finals. I doubt he would slack off his one season of college, it's not in his character.

Wouldn't it be stupid for Lebron to turn it on and risk a draft and career threatening injury in an OAD season, when he was likely to make the kind of money he now makes?

Once again competitors have the heart of a lion and don't quit. Maybe coast a few games or parts of games, but not during crunch time. Not ever when it counts.
I am guessing we will see Wig's career track somewhere between Lebron's and Michael's in terms of career accomplishments.

Wow. That's pre-mature, but would be awesome. I hope he has as much sucess as Paul Pierce.

Or maybe just a little less. Its hard to say. It depends on whether Wigs can get out of Minnesota and get to a major market and a great coach, or a great owner. Jordan had Jackson. Lebron had Riley. If Lebron were smart, he would be playing for Phil very shortly in the Big Apple. He could win five or six rings there and become rich enough to write a check for an NBA franchise when he's done. New York is the promised land for endorsering superstars.

Phil = genius

New York of late = putrid mess

Lebron's domination of the NBA years left +/_ 3.5 doubt he wants to waste it in that mess. It would take a heck of a package deal. PG and big to complement LBJ.

Money to be made in NY huge

LeBron just desires to be liked. I doubt he spurns Cleveland again, unless there is no hope of a championship. Last I heard he wanted Mario back, but Cle drafted a pg.

Get Wiggins to a good team with a good coach and we'll see how he flourishes. I hope he does us all proud.

Andrew's WAR stat is the lowest among ROYs in recent memory. Please don't compare Wigs to Jordan. It was unfair to compare Wigs to LeBron. It was unfair to compare LeBron to Jordan. Just let him be the best Andrew Wiggins he can be.

The worst trade ever? • Jun 26, 2015 03:20 AM

@jaybate-1.0 If that was true he truly was a huge disapointment. Glad I didn't lump him into the best since LeBron hype.

I'm just saying there is an element of risk and he doesn't wow you with confidence. Nice kid, glad he was a band-aid on what should've been a terrible year for KU.

Too bad you're not an NBA exec. You obviously have a supreme eye for talent.

I wouldn't have traded Wiggins for no defense Love myself.

The worst trade ever? • Jun 26, 2015 02:13 AM

@jaybate-1.0 In all fairness Wiggins was an unknown commodity at the time that had a habit of disappearing in college games. The Cavs were freaked out LeBron would opt out and leave again so win now trumped any thoughts of long term sustainable success. Stupid, but common.

@globaljaybird What's a DD? I keep picturing him with a top heavy gal... Good reward, but I doubt it's what you meant.

Aaron Miles, next KU Assistant Coach... • Jun 24, 2015 01:14 PM

Mason is the point guard and may be the best player on the team. He looked to distribute far more last season than his frosh year. As a freshman surrounded by freshman he struggled. As a sophomore surrounded by sophomores and freshman he looked better. As a Junior with an experienced team core he should flourish.

@konkeyDong In reference to a possible list of gun legal owners. The government is supposed to fear the people not the other way around. Our government is already too powerful. I'd hate to give them more information to supress the people with. This is far and away the best country on the planet, but there's always room for improvement.

One reason we've slowly been losing rights for decades now is the burgening population and lack of good parenting teaching proper morals and values.

Happiness is a Warm Gun (Yes it is) • Jun 20, 2015 03:28 PM

I've found that about 10% of people are venamently against hunting; 10% are hugely in favor of hunting; 80% just don't care. (I'm in the 80%) The problem is the 20% of highly opionized folks are doing all the talking because they are the passionate ones.

Carrying guns is more devicive, but without doing more involved surveys I would guess that it's 20-30% of the poeple who strongly care and are making noise. You start threatening to take away guns and the percentage of people who care would go up. Just as after every gun tragedy the anti-gun voices get louder.

I wish there was a way to better control who can fire a gun. Finger print locks are not very great yet. Bio-metric locks will get better. The real solution is for society to have better morals, better values, and to love one another. Then guns can be the tools/entertainment they can be on their best day!

Dream Class 2016 • Jun 19, 2015 08:13 PM

@nuleafjhawk I own two guns one for pheasant hunting/skeet shooting and one for target shooting. I've been hunting a handful of times and if it weren't business or family related that number would be zero. Target shooting is a blast I recomend it to any stable individual. Competitive shooting is fun I've been to one match as a youth (15) and would've won the thing had I been registered. First time shooting a rifle too!

I don't feel like I need a firearm for self defense. I don't even lock the door most of the time. Unfortunately not everyone is blessed with such a nice neighborhood to live in.

I wish there was more hoop shooting to talk about. I can't wait for Tuesday to have a bettter topic of discussion!!! @MoonwalkMafia is going to be PO'ed this thread is way off topic. :)

Dream Class 2016 • Jun 19, 2015 07:57 PM

I don't carry a gun, but I probably should. I've hit a deer or two that could've used a bullet to end their misery.

Guns cause less harm than pens in the hands of our leaders. Not every one should have the right to carry a firearm though they do have a place. It would be terrible if only our wonderful government had all the guns. Well the government and criminals...

(Unless what I read was wrong) Last year the citizens of the US bought more guns than the 21 largest armies combined.

Little update on 2016 recruit Jackson • Jun 18, 2015 12:49 PM

According to ESPN these teams have offered him a scholarship:

Arizona
Duke
Kansas
Kentucky
Louisville
Maryland
Michigan State
North Carolina
North Carolina State
UCLA
UNLV

That's a pretty good list of suitors.

It sure would be nice to see off season explosion in the post season along with honed execution. Healthy, in shape, rested, and practiced up to polished, here's hoping that's a description of this upcoming March!

@Statmachine Bragg moves like a guard! I had no idea he was so smooth. I thought the stretch four label meant he'd shoot threes, not be able to drive as well as he can.

SASHA RETIRES • Jun 10, 2015 03:35 AM

@wrwlumpy I thought that was a joke. No way Bill Self has such an impractical home. Then I fact checked, holy crap that monstrosity is right by free state! I hope he uses it as a recruiting tool, because it is a ridiculously large house for 4. I'm glad to see Bill is enjoying his money or at least letting Cindy enjoy it, as he's rarely home (I was led to believe).

Recruiting targets • Jun 04, 2015 05:00 AM

ESPN ↗

Throughout June and heading into the all-important July recruiting period, Jeff Goodman and Jeff Borzello will take a look at the summer checklists for the top 50 programs in college basketball, as revealed in Goodman's preseason ballot published in late May. Goodman and Borzello will show you each roster the way the coaches are looking at it, projecting graduation/NBA casualties and areas of need ahead of 2016-17. Below is the summer guide for the Kansas Jayhawks.

Scholarship chart

Seniors (3): F Perry Ellis, PF Hunter Mickelson, PF Jamari Traylor

Juniors (5): PG Frank Mason, SG Wayne Selden, SG Brannen Greene, PF Landen Lucas, Dwight Coleby (redshirting)

Sophomores (2): PG Devonte Graham, SG Sviatoslav Mykhailiuk

Freshmen (3): PF Carlton Bragg, C Cheick Diallo, SG Lagerald Vick

Possible early entry losses after next season: Cheick Diallo, Wayne Selden

Available scholarships for 2016: four (possibly as many as six)

Committed prospects for 2016 and beyond: None

Biggest needs for 2016-17: big men, scoring on the perimeter

Must-haves: SF Josh Jackson (No. 3 in ESPN 100, 1Nation)

Targets: SF Josh Jackson (No. 3 in ESPN 100, 1Nation), SG Malik Monk (No. 6, Wings Elite), PF Edrice "Bam" Adebayo (No. 8, Team Loaded), SG Terrance Ferguson (No. 9, Mo Williams), C Uda Azubuike (No. 10, Georgia Stars), PG De'Aaron Fox (No. 12, Houston Hoops), SG Josh Langford (No. 13, Atlanta Celtics), C Tony Bradley (No. 21, E1T1), SG Mustapha Heron (No. 22, New Heights), SF Rawle Alkins (No. 27, NY Rens), SF Braxton Blackwell (No. 33, Atlanta Celtics), SG Seventh Woods (No. 39, Carolina Wolves), SG Markelle Fultz (No. 55, DC Blue Devils)

Summer scenario

The Jayhawks will focus on big men in the 2016 class, and that's one of the reasons why they recently added Ole Miss transfer Dwight Coleby. He'll sit out in 2015-16 and have two years left. KU loses front-line guys Ellis, Mickelson and Traylor, and coach Bill Self and his staff are preparing to lose Diallo after just one season in Lawrence. Josh Jackson is the priority, but Adebayo may be even more important because he'll give Kansas a big body. The Jayhawks will also prepare for the departure of Selden, but KU can absorb that one far easier with the presence of guys like Greene and Mykhailiuk on the roster.

I do not farm. I am a crop consultant. I help the farmers to make decisions. I give advice on seed selection, fertilizer, insecticides (to use or not as well as what to use), insecticides, fungicides, as well as water scheduling. Every week myself and my crew walk across each field we check from corner to corner and scout for problems and I tell the farmer what we found and how to fix it. It's fun and challenging. Bulls searching for new coach • Jun 02, 2015 05:55 PM

@justanotherfan ok we disagree. My stress scale PoUS with finger on button to nuke foreign nation stress level 10; crossing the street stress level 1; CBB coach 4; NBA coach 4.5.

Entertainers talking about the stress there under is utterly laughable. College students complaining about the stress there under his early laughable. It was both right between a three and five on my stress scale. Real stress that occurs in the real world rinks far higher. That's all I'm saying. I know we disagree because you think that coaching in the nba is stressful. I think it's an honor and a privilege.

Put another way I have rich friends who will become physically ill due to stress of planing a vacation. I have poor friends who handle the stress of not knowing how to pay the bills. The wealthy guy has more stress in his eyes. Who really is at a disadvantage? Coaching is not real stress. My brother in-law getting shot at in Afghanistan is!

Bulls searching for new coach • Jun 02, 2015 12:33 PM

@JayHawkFanToo I agree NBA coaching is marginally more stressful than coaching college. I'm aware that they play more games in the NBA, but only the playoffs matter. There is little to no stress to win any regular season game as long as you are playoff bound.

Luckily, he doesn't have a job with real stress involved, like his heart doctors. Or perhaps a farmer (or Jamari's family) struggling to feed his family. Pay me a few million a year and the stress becomes superficial, I would no longer need to work after one year, it's all ego and stress you put on yourself at that point. Sorry, that's not a fair comparison we are just taling about b-ball stress.

Personally I wish Fred would've stuck around the Big12. I don't imagine Fred thought it would be too stressfull or maybe he can't stand that cry baby kid and beautiful wife and just wants to blow a gasket on the sideline...

Bulls searching for new coach • May 31, 2015 03:51 PM

@JayHawkFanToo I thought it was his NBA playing career that was cut short by his heart condition. The NBA office job should be less stress than CBB head coach. Coaching in the NBA is only marginally more stressfull that CBB, but that stress is all to succeed. I say this because Thibbs was fired after making the playoffs 5 years running with his star player injured half of the time. Fred never won a regular season conference title and was god-like in ISU.

I wish him success, but also wish he'd stay. He's a worthy advisary for Bill.

Bulls confident Fred Hoiberg will accept coaching offer, sources say ↗

CHICAGO -- The Bulls are quietly confident that Iowa State coach Fred Hoiberg will accept an offer to become their next head coach, according to multiple league sources.

Fred Hoiberg played four seasons for the Bulls and has ties to Chicago's front office. Matthew Holst/Getty Images
News of mutual interest between Hoiberg, who played for the Bulls for four of his 10 NBA seasons and is a close friend of general manager Gar Forman, and Chicago isn't a surprise. He has close relationships with several people in the Bulls' front office and is well regarded for his success in Ames.

The Bulls fired Tom Thibodeau on Thursday after five years as their coach. Thibodeau had two years and almost $9 million left on his contract.

The timetable on exactly when Hoiberg, 42, might formally sign a contract is still being hammered out. While the feeling within the organization continues to be that a contract and introductory news conference could come as early as next week, the Bulls, according to sources, are giving extra consideration to the time frame because Hoiberg underwent open-heart surgery to replace his aortic valve last month.

Bleacher Report and the Chicago Tribune also reported that a deal between Hoiberg and the Bulls is expected. The Orlando Sentinel reported Friday that Hoiberg also interviewed with the Magic for their head-coaching vacancy, but Orlando has named Scott Skiles its coach.

Earlier this week, the Ames Tribune, citing sources with knowledge of the situation, reported that Hoiberg has told at least one recruit that his future at Iowa State is uncertain. (that would be Diallo)

All I've got to say is darn...

@Crimsonorblue22 Thanks. Same boat here. We're not quite as wet, but I had .60" Friday .80" Saturday, 2" Sunday 3/4" today and 3" last weekend also. I hope it continues at a slightly reduced rate. If only I could bottle it up and save it for later. It was beginning to look very bleak here before the rains started. The dryland wheat was brown in large areas and is still poor, but the irrigated looks fantastic. We don't need any more of the tornadic crap though. There was a mile wide wedge tornado 20 miles south of here a couple of nights ago also. That was scary! Luckily it was weak (F1).
