Hey, got a question. Heard guys talking about these two pretty frequently. My question is and this is certainly because I simply don't know. - - I have heard kind seems some are kind of cool of Dotson. - -talking about how they much would rather have Grimes. I understand he is a higher ranked player - -but both are really very good players, maybe I'm not seeing something - -is there something off the court with Dotson? - - is a black sheep? @jaybate-1.0 There is a point you brought up which I agree. I guess the way I come across just hits wrong with people. Guess my way isn't as -can't even think of a phrase that fits But I agree and have brought it up - -only to pretty much get laced by a few.

My point also my question is pretty much like you said WHY are we missing on so many OAD'S - -5 star? - - what's wrong? - -why we not able to close?

I've had my on theories - -what's the word? synopsis I'm sure that's not how it's spelled - -but know the meaning - -
' it's a educated guess" - - Sometimes I think we may get to feeling to good about ourselves on a player and where we stand - -thinking after we have hit him hard and are convinced it's done he is coming - -then we lose contact fail to stay in touch, - -main while back at the Ranch as is the case in any sport until that name is on the line he remains open bait to the other schools still hounding him, throwing any kind of negative garbage about us to him. - -Him hearing from them - NOTHING from us. hmmmm what's going on he thinking - why am I not hearing form these guys any more?

I feel sometimes we have multi scholarships and we end up maybe focusing TO MUCH in one a particular player losing sight of another which posses the same athletic ability , so we zero in on the one and in the main time we lose out on the other because he is receving better info and whatever from others - -then the kicker we lose out on the one we have put ALL our focus on. - -So now were screwed we lost BOTH. - Which in turn puts us in a scramble mode and hence the transfers - -de- commits - -& graduate transfers at the last. seems like the last two - -three years this is starting to become an re- occurring scenario.

I just feel that on ALOT of these guys we are JUST NOT FINISHING - -not closing out, getting them to make that commit - -sign early. You got the door open - -your in the house - -your on the couch, close the deal - -stay on these kids - -keep the pressure on, these days you just have to, as competitive as the College recruiting is these days - you blink - -and BAM. - -Not closing, that's what my gut tell me - -not finishing.

You can come up with all kinds of theories as to why. Shoe companies - - friends - -to stiff of .competition but the bottom line is like you say yes we have missed on quite a few OAD'S. - got a couple but compared with Duke - -UK - - ummm not so much.

I'm sorry but I will go to my death bed and be pushing up lilly's before you convince me that either one of those schools are that much better then KU. - - People can say OH well they want to go there because of tradition National Championships. - Well HOW did they get those championships in the first place? - -well I'll tell you where it started - -by recruiting the 5 star to those programs - -being able to close. - I dunno just frustrates me so with that I for sure agree wonder why. - -ROCK CHALK ALL DAY LONG BABY

Man I tell ya what. You take a look around the Nation some of the things that has taken place on College Campus. I mean not trying to justify one from the other, Our situation that is happening is bad with the alleged rape - still going on BUT.

This crap that's taken place at Penn State I believe right? - -This fat house that hazed the 19 yr old - -having him and the gauntlet. - -I mean this kid fell multiple times -fell down a flight of stairs - -had a Alchol content of 4.0 - - -a fricken 4.0. passed out on the couch and these guys did NOTHING for like 4o minutes. - -then they goggled to see what to do for a unconscious man. - -BEFORE they decided to call for help. - - WTF. Plus this is not the first time this fraternity has had issues - -twice before. Now the university has ban kegs inn dorms/frats umm tell that to this kids parents - -well there will be no more kegs -that's great, does that help bring the kid back? I mean you stand over the guy and just look at him and tell one another not to tell the authorities about him falling down the stairs Are you kidding me? - -JUMPIN - -GEE- - HOSSA - -FATS - -come on. 4.0 content.

They said on the news now 18 people been arrested in connection and hundreds of charges well we know that's not true but ya know, all the way from tampering with evidence to manslaughter.

Again I just read the article but having brain fade - I know it's Penn State -you combine that with what happened with Paterno and that what was his name Jerry Mclusky right?

The we have the whole Waco thing at Baylor - -All the women and rapes - entertaining recruits multiple rape by groups of guys multiple times.

What the hell is happening at these Colleges? have we all lost total control of what take place? as was mentioned as to what they are called what the hell has happened to the RA'S? - where are these college's failing to make the grade?

What has happened to moral and character of these kids? So we by far are not the only one that's having issues - it's happening all over -- -seems to be more and more - then how much/many more episodes are going un reported? It about makes me sick. -

Having the Lawson's has given us a heads up over others on their brothers for sure. Chances of the family moving here sound reasonably good They made mention in the LJW article about how if they moved here how hard it would be and what a ball game it would be a hot bed to see at the local high schools if the .Lawson younger brothers moved here to Lawrence.

You got Chandler who is # 34 right now - -then sounds like the youngest might be a real stud. talk about you might think to early for rankings - -BUT like they say Future 150. com has Jonathan Lawson a 6ft 5 160 lb ranked # 6 right now so we might have some talent for awhile sure can't hurt with the brothers playing here.

On a side note as they were talking about Jonathan - -they mentioned he is two slots above another local in state player to keep our eye on out of Wichita - -He is ranked # 8 in the future 150.com he is a 6'2 Pg named Daylan Jones.

Ya know, I realize still another year off BUT mercy looks like sure seems like 2019 if we play it right could be a monster year for us in recruiting. So many players we are high on or they are high on us.

Hurt - - Jeffries - - Leech - - Lawson - - Robinson Earl - - Harvey & then committed Jacobs.

Everyone of these guys we are leading - -and leading big, Example: Leech 100 % KU and not only that - -KU is the only one he shows interest as in warm - all others cool interest, -Robinson Earl the same - -KU only one of interest KU 100 % and warmer all others cool interest. Harvey the same 100% KU all others cool. - -thing is with Harvey sounds like he is planning on attending KU late night AGAIN this yr, attended last year, went to some games - o me - -that sounds like this kid wants to play here bad all we have to do is show continued interest. DJ Jeffries, list us in his top five -all including us is cool right now but could be he is just focusing in play right now no favorite at this point that I see.

My question becomes if we have a scenario where we have the opportunity for same type of players with not a huge gap in talent or ranking using Harvey who seems like he REALLY wants to come and we got another very talented player that wants to come - - what do we do? - -Do we shun/ignore our local talented kid for the other? - -could that not come back to bit us in the ass later? Say we ignore Robinson Earl - -Harvey - -Berry. - - should we just look the other way from local talent that can be really solid? for another player of equal or maybe some better - that's kind of touchy ground if you ask me - -could get a bad rap out of that, bad reputation locally - -so what do we do? - - -ROCK CHALK ALL DAY LONG BABY

makes this old man's heart all tingly to actually see the responses growing abut KU football. People on this site are not cum by any means. - We can see the job & effort that this Coaching staff is putting in. We can see the light at the end of the tunnel. There is some true interest starting to return in the football program - - -Gotta love it.

I have seen some guesses as to the possibility of 5-6 wins THIS year. - -Myself I'm tempering my expectations a little less then that still for this year, I still think maybe another year yet - -I'm looking at more of 4-5 - -slow - -steady improvement. We getting there, get us some more solid recruiting yrs - - just remember how low, low, low this program was. Unbelievably low, I've NEVER seen it like this, I mean we were not even close to being competitive.

@KirkIsMyHinrich Think it matches reasonably favorable. Not TO MANY little lone Devonte going to put up the type of season like frank did last season. Those just don't come along on an every day bases. I think the back court gonna be pretty solid, I think Newman is going to surprise people -Devonte gonna be playing Pg then you got Vick & Newman then we gonna have Garrett which might be a little better then people think say by come time for Big 12 conference time, I think they gonna be ok.

The front line? - -I think Udoka gonna be a beast, still gonna be interesting as to see how quickly he develops. My prediction even though I have said this multiple times This is my thought - -Udoka going to STILL be here for two years. I just think his injury has sit him back enough developmental wise it's still going to take him these two yrs. I just don't think he will explode that quickly, he gonna be good -- really good as the season goes along but I think in the end run we got him for two years yet.

I think Preston gonna be a typical freshman, he is going to be swamped - - over whelmed at first, gonna take time to settle in but think he will be a good player for us. Another key I think is going to be what kind of play we get out of our grad transfer. Can he contribute enough to lighten the load for the guys up front? - -I think he will be fine - probably back both - -Udoka and Preston.

Think we are still gonna be a team to watch typical Coach Self team. Then I don't even wanna talk about the following year lol. Well just read of LJW. KU is in the recruitment of verbal LSU commit Kelvin Joesph.

Joesph a 4 star corner back out of Baton rouge ranked # 39 by rivals tweeted out that he was going to visit 3 schools. - - Alabama - - Florida State, & KU. - -as we know that's Coach hull territory, so even though he has given verbal to LSU - says he still wants to visit here. Sure this doesn't mean a lot, BUT just to be mentioned in the same breath as one of three schools he is still looking at along with Alabama, & Florida St like the article say - - -speaks volumes as to the progress that KU Beaty and staff are making. right?- - never say never right? We shall see.

Then also another possible recruit we made his top 7 on his list. A 3 star Defensive Tackle out of Bradenton Florida - - Josh walker. His top 7 list is: - - Arizona, Minnesota , Nebraska, North Carolina, Rutgers, Wake Forest & KU.

He has as reported by rivals offers from: - - Michigan State, California, Norte dame, Pitt, & UCLA. - -So if we could work magic with him sounds like a pretty solid player. You can see the quality of players getting better, as we go. - -Which is the result of lots of work from the staff, and your right I'm ready actually a little excited I think we are on the verge of getting this thing turned around - - -long spiral up , we were at ROCK BOTTOM.

Like you say this all kind of goes hand in hand. The coaching staff starting to get better more elite players to check us out, recruiting classes slowly but surely getting better - - -But as you say we now as fans need to do OUR part - -we as fans also play a part in a recruitment process. How many quality/elite players want to come to a program where on game day a player can see ALOT more shiny aluminum - metal whatever in the stands then people? which in turns part of it is no fans - - then that adds to less interest a player likes to play show his game in front of people - -a place where he can feel the energy - -the juice - -so if like you say 1/3 full add these things no fans, so so facilities not up to par with other big 12 schools,- - -less TV exposure - -adds to less talent - - - kind of tick - -for tack - it ALL inner mingles with each other kind of like you rub my back and I rub yours. -It takes one almost to get the other.

Like you say we as fans have got to get behind Coach which I believe we have as least vocally - -NOW we need to do it physically. plant our ass in the stands. - what a way to spend a Saturday afternoon. Agree also was kind of disappointed at the result of the type of plays in the spring game. like you said this is suppose to be an Air raid - -stretch the field surposedly we have the receivers to do that right?

It has kind of surprised me a little bit though that nothing more has been said - so does that mean there has been no progress made -again no arrests? - -Sure haven't seen any KU players names mentioned anymore - -boy hot was that rumor going around, referring back to where they said what 5 KU players were being talked to about being Witness or what the hell ever. How the media and other college idiots were running with that trying to make KU look like dog crap.

I was really kind of down a smidge at first, BUT and as you say true just highlight tape but, he does look pretty mobile, seems to love to finish strong which I've always a little problem with a lot of out bigs - - wanting to finger roll the ball in when in-contested or a little bank shot off the back board. For me? - -I'm more of a chocolate thunder type of guy - -if I bust my butt to work myself free, or make a sweet move to free up - -I wanna take that puppy home and don't get in my way. As Daryl use to say that's MY PLAY TIME my reward, and he looks like he likes to flush - -that's a good thing -seems pretty fluid has some nice moves.

Well here is another gut feeling. just as I've had this feeling for quite awhile that SVI isn't coming back -which I still think he is done, either thru the NBA or he is going back home and play , I just think he is gone.

My gut feeling is Coleby isn't going anywhere , really wouldn't make a whole lot of sense for him to at this point , I think where people are hearing this is probably from some fan or two that just in their minds they WANT someone to transfer out and he seems to them would be a good option, they want him to transfer so we can get a scholarship open because they either still feel we can or hope Trevon will come or Tilmon - -more likely then not they still living the pipe dream of Duval coming. So with that in mind they got this going about Coleby transferring and it took off like wild fire you know how rumors go.

Rumors are kind of like well for the older one's here if you remember the game where you would whisper something in someone's ear and have them whisper to the next, and then the next and by the time it got to the end person was NO WHERE close to what you had whispered to the first. That's how rumors go someone might say something and the next one takes that and tells someone else BUT adds a little something more to spice it up a bit. Then on and on and on. Bottom line I'm not seein it I think he stays right where he is. As we got deep into the season towards the end and started getting a little better physically his game time floor time started going up a little. I think he is smart enough he knows really at this juncture in his career it's not going to get a whole lot better no matter where he goes. - -Just my feeling. - -ROCK CHALK ALL DAY LONG BABY

Well after further review lol. Maybe not quite as bad as my first really bad thought process. Seems pretty fluid, seems like he wants to take the ball to the hole with authority - -ALOT gotta like that - has some bounce, some nice inside moves - maybe not ALL against A-1 talent but still think he will give us some quality play possibly. - -ROCK CHALK ALL DAY LONG BABY

Well off another site poster said and might make some sense if it turned out to be the case. Poster said with him being from William & Mary he says bet his has the grades for an Academic Scholarship. @BShark Well my friend THAT for sure you are 100% correct on with him being a grad transfer so I reckon that's a good thing, I just hope so badly I'm 100% wrong on the guy, I have no real information, maybe he can back Doke in case of foul trouble give us some minutes.

I think believe it or not Udoka plays a huge part for us in this coming season, hopefully he can play without getting into instant foul trouble going to be key. Now I still have to say I really don't think some are giving Mitch the credit he deserves. Sure he will never be a jock basketball stud, BUT I don't think he is as bad as some are trying to make him out either. - -If you give him this year to continue to work with Hudy then I beli3eve he can give us two solid quality years in a back up capacity . Mainly because from what I saw other then major under developed body for major D-1 basketball I saw a lot of scrappiness in the limited time he DID play, big hustle guy full of energy did a lot of things that goes in noticed in the box score, Bottom line I just hope we can put this together for another solid year. - -ROCK CHALK ALL DAY LONG BABY

@Kcmatt7 Well I'm sure not challenging you on what you say as I will more then willing admit there is so much that goes on in these scenario's I'll take your word, I'm in no way in a position to try to talk differently. @BeddieKU23 So guess I have this question. With so many misses in high school recruits this year and so many and then relying on so many transfers this year do you consider this year in recruiting a good year - -a so , so year or a down year?

The Lawson's is solid , This guy I feel not so much , Cunliffe , might be fine , Charlie Moore I'm taking a wait and see with him. I think it is human nature though when SOME take things out of context and say they can't follow it's more like I believe they don't try. I'm not the brightest light in the house but I'm more like an energy saver some here just after reading pick bits and pieces and then take it on themselves to try and get into a verbal war of words even after you tell them your done - most be the competiveness in them just got to get that LAST WORD in not to be outdone.

If you all get the chance and haven't already done so, just saw a pretty sweet piece/article on the " Truth" with a great video clip over off the LJW. - -The clip was other players, Coaches and such talking about Paul in his 19 yrs and high lights pretty cool stuff. You can find it if you like to see it under the heading of former Jayhawks in the NBA. Wish there was a way I could save that, love to have it for a keepsake piece of Paul.

Man I wish there were some way , I have a rookie pic like a 5x7 pic of Paul in his Celtic uniform . Kind of a pic of him laying on his side by a ball in his uniform and then another little rookie card almost like you know a topps baseball card of Paul up in the corner, its framed in a niece wooden frame - -Never been touched /opened up, wish I could somehow get Paul to sign it for me, be a valuable piece - -if he were to ever come back around KU sometime like other former players have, would be awesome. - - ROCK CHALK ALL DAY LONG BABY
