Bob is Defending the lead from the FT line, and we have make long and short treys. Bob stealing a page from Bill.

Kansas vs West Virginia • Jan 13, 2016 01:26 AM

Gotta keep going to Perry

Kansas vs West Virginia • Jan 13, 2016 01:24 AM

We are starting to see the old Huggo Muggo at last. Stiff screens. Eye scratching. Look at Perry's forehead. Looks like he is being guarded by barbed wire. Bob's turning the prison bodies loose. He kicks you when you're down, just like Marsha!

Kansas vs West Virginia • Jan 13, 2016 01:20 AM

Frank's cornea attacked the guys finger nails.

Kansas vs West Virginia • Jan 13, 2016 01:19 AM

All short treys now.

Kansas vs West Virginia • Jan 13, 2016 01:06 AM

Self should start Ellis and Diallo on both low blocks and play through them both for ten straight possessions. No treys. No drives. No fast breaks. Just back to basket and stick back. They could foul up WVU, get back in the lead, and then shoot treys to separate.

Kansas vs West Virginia • Jan 13, 2016 01:00 AM

Hugs has a Bob Knight sized presence. Maybe even bigger!

Kansas vs West Virginia • Jan 13, 2016 12:58 AM

Great big giant Trey!!!!!!!

Svi Brickailiuk.

Kansas vs West Virginia • Jan 13, 2016 12:52 AM

KU was not in good enough cardio shape for this.

WVU doesn't even look tired.

Kansas vs West Virginia • Jan 13, 2016 12:50 AM

Perry is playing like a man while everyone else is boying-up.

Kansas vs West Virginia • Jan 13, 2016 12:44 AM

Svi has got to make some shots!

Kansas vs West Virginia • Jan 13, 2016 12:44 AM

Er 6

Kansas vs West Virginia • Jan 13, 2016 12:43 AM

And yet we r only down 4.

Kansas vs West Virginia • Jan 13, 2016 12:42 AM

The guys are better getting the ball up the floor than in half court and they aren't bringing it up court very well.

Kansas vs West Virginia • Jan 13, 2016 12:38 AM

Two guard offense not helping vs. this press

Kansas vs West Virginia • Jan 13, 2016 12:36 AM

Only down 4 playing poorly

@brooksmd

After you've seen Alaska, everything else looks free of Giant mosquito swarms, horse flies and frost bite.

I like the Big Jayhawk as is.

But I would like a paper thin digital screen overlaid on the court between the wood and a shellac surface. The surface would be transparent during the game and become a giant video screen that shows waving wheat, or The campus in autumn or spring, or beautiful scenes of Kansas. KU is so beautiful and much of Kansas is too. It could also flask Rock Chalk!!! It would be good branding.

@jayballer54

Frozen rope outta da park!!

Think of a pianist with great hands and perfect pitch, but who just started playing and can only read some of the notes.

Do you put them in the New York Philharmonic and expect them to carry the orchestra 2/3s of the performance, while learning on the job?

No.

@DoubleDD

Nice serve!

Self teaches thinking next to his players.

He lives his gospel.

Next includes both extending what works from the past with what new can be innovated.

The greatest architects still work with foundations, walls, floors, ceilings, roofs, doors and windows after thousands of years of human building.

There are some basics and fundamentals that cannot be done without and some innovations that can be added, or discarded, or altered.

Some innovations can only occur once, because of rare circumstance.

Others become new normals, because their conditions recur.

And it all happens subject to conditions of a period.

And then times and conditions change periodically.

The universe is a catalogue of what works.

And what once did.

And what could.

If only we pay attention and try to get better.

Looked at a few player's overseas pro careers. They all change teams and countries frequently. What makes stays with foreign teams so short?

I KNOW THIS WON'T HAPPEN BUT... • Jan 12, 2016 09:18 AM

C5 has 20 fouls to give.

Probability of Fred going down?

100%.

• In an homage to "The Good, the Bad and the Ugly, Self and Huggins agree to coach no threes and no transition. @HighEliteMajor scales Campenile and takes life.

• Huggins and Self agree to switch JOBS for one game. Huggs wears the pin stripes and coaches KU. Self wears the leisure suit and coaches WVU. Self wins.

• Olivia Wilde has a sex change and comes to Morgantown as Oliver Wilde. @jaybate 1.0 scales Campenile and takes life.

• Virginia reabsorbs West Virginia, signaling the resumption of the US Civil War. Huggs and Tony Bennett merge rosters for the KU-WVU/VU game. KU and Union lose.

• A better John Steuart Curry mural of John Brown appears on the ceiling of WVU Coliseum. @jaybate 1.0 scales Campenile and takes life.

• Jay Rockefeller Tells Peabody Coal to excavate KU and move it to Morgantown, so the Mountaineers don't have to cross time zones to play away. "I'm a Hill, Hill, Hill, Hillbilly" becomes KU fight song.

• Huggins drives Self to a secret government lab to meet Dana Sculley in a bustier and instead Self is experimented on by aliens in black leisure suits seeking to learn how to win 82% of anything.

• .600 Johnny Jones coaches both KU and WVU, ties, and gets a long stack at LSU.

• Huggins and Self agree not to allow X-Axis Plays. @drgnslayr scales y-axis of Campenile and takes life.

• The KU-WVU game is called on account of war.

(Note: All fiction. No malice.)

@nuleafjhawk

I hope they feel like Ned Beatty in Deliverance.

@BeddieKU23

WVU needs to shut up and make shots.

At least all we have to do is make shots.

Time For Self To Kill C5 • Jan 12, 2016 12:45 AM

@HighEliteMajor said:

History is a good indicator of what it takes to win a national title.

A Few History Defying Rings:

• UCLA winning with no starter over 6-4

• Texas Western winning with all African American starting five.

• UConn winning without a single OAD in the OAD stack era.

• Michigan winning a ring with Fisher after firing Frieder before the start of March Madness.

Self needs to make The Bold Choice

I am always for the right choice, not the bold one. But if you want bold, then staying with C5 is the ONLY bold choice Self can make at the 5. A five man rotation at the five is unprecedented in my recollection. Reducing the rotation, be it right, or wrong, is the safe play flowing from conventional wisdom.

I think until someone finds a way to beat C5, C5 stays.

But Self is once again ahead of most on this issue.

Self has committed to C5 the first half and C2 or C3 the second.

It is maddeningly cunning.

He makes the opposing coach prepare for all five, then after a half Self commits to 2 or 3, and the 2 or 3 they handle least well!

My guess?

Other coaches begin copying him ASAP!

Calipari • Jan 12, 2016 12:01 AM

@JayHawkFanToo

No, it only appears to.

Calipari • Jan 11, 2016 06:22 PM

@JayHawkFanToo

Billionaires never run out of money.

Ever.

Or they weren't billionaires.

The more conflicted and trying the times, the farther their money goes; this is the beauty of real wealth and one of the major drivers for frequent economic contractions and structural poverty. There is always as much, if not more money to be made, by contraction than expansion. Just ask Joseph Kennedy, one of the small timers that figured the game out, once upon a time.

More. Money. In. Depression. Than. In. Good. Times.

Expansion is for suckers. Contraction is for harvesting the wealth of suckers.

Maybe he was a poser?

Devonte Graham's Day Off • Jan 11, 2016 06:13 PM

@JayHawkFanToo

Agreed.

Calipari • Jan 11, 2016 06:12 PM

@JayHawkFanToo

Not until he gets the right channel for giving it away--the channel that actually gets him what he needs.

If I understand the origins of the Ruskie's money correctly, he could spend $2 Billion per year on that franchise for the next century and not sweat it. :-)

Calipari • Jan 11, 2016 05:37 PM

@JayHawkFanToo

Maybe. But...

If you give me WWW, CAA, Cal and Ruskie money, even I could have the dump trucks backing up to an NBA franchise nearly eliminating the distributive effects of the draft..

If you think about it, the draft shapes a very teeny portion of a high end player's career. Its the second and third contracts and the moves to the correct media markets and the pairing with the correct coach and complementary players that matter.

You don't want Lebron and Andrew on the first contract. Get them on the second; that's where the real money is to be made in franchise valuation increase that off sets the salary cost.

The NBA is ripe for this. The Ruskie's mistake was he did not make full use of the legacy agent-shoe complex. He is apparently smart and persistent, as are most men of great wealth that did not inherit it. He is wisely taking the next logical step. WWW and Cal should be looking for the next kill. The only thing they have to be worried about is how dangerous the Ruskie is. WW W and Cal already appear to have FU money in a big way and jumping in a potential slaughter house with the Ruskie may not make the big potential take worth the down side risk.

Oh, but if you offer the big bones, through the right channels, Ray, the players most definitely will come. :-)

Devonte Graham's Day Off • Jan 11, 2016 05:32 PM

I am going to diverge slightly from the choir singing that Frank and Devonte are crucial, and that Devonte especially has to deliver, for KU to get the W in Morgantown.

My lyric demands Wayne get big.

I figure Huggins will over shift onto Frank and Devonte and force the ball into Wayne's mitts. The WVU objective should be to make Wayne handle the ball, not Frank and Devonte. The best way to do this is to press and trap the ball out of Frank and Devonte's hands into Wayne's; then swarm Wayne. Wayne dribbling in transition remains a KU vulnerability.

This same tactic would then be applied with Wayne's backups.

Huggy has to do something like this, or KU will just shoot them out of the gym.

Calipari • Jan 11, 2016 05:17 PM

@JayHawkFanToo

Hypothesis: WWW, CAA, and Cal can concentrate UK free agents and others to an NBA FRANCHISE, especially with deep Ruskie pockets? Cal can hire some NBA ASSISTANT for nuts and bolts.

Slogan: pro basketball is fun again

It appears there was some kind of schism after Danny between Dean and Larry that may have effected Big Shoe Relations. Larry may have lost his inner circle status, if such an inner circle existed. Did Larry and WWW hook up?

Cal preceded Bill on LB's staff without overlap, or was it vice versa?

Cal seems to have stayed with the WWW Nike (CAA?) program through the changes from Sonny to George.

Bill seems to have left the WWW Nike (CAA?) program.

Larry left the college game for a long time, but came back under Bill's sponsorship with Nike SMU.

Calipari's reputed relationship with WWW and WWW's REPUTED one with CAA seem crucial..

Do any of the other coaches have a similar reputed relationship with WWW and CAA, or with another Big Shoe-Agency complex?

Devonte Graham's Day Off • Jan 11, 2016 10:37 AM

Graham's game has been about penetrating and feeding others penetrating.

Against OU he struggled versus Hield.

Against TTECH he struggled against a defense that takes away penetration.

Self asks a ton from him.

D, be our domestique.

D, be our PG.

D, drive it.

D, make shots.

D, rebound.

D, guard.

D, steal.

D, pick up the groceries.

D, sweep the floor.

D, darn the socks.

This season is good training for being married.

Whew!

He will be ok.

But Huggy will lean on him hard.

Unsettle Devonte and the KU machine sputters some.

A resignation at UNLV sounds like a motion play to avoid penalties.

Hard to believe that guy squandered what Kruger built there that fast.

Calipari • Jan 11, 2016 05:46 AM

@jayballer54

Cal is sideways IMHO.

No more long stacks means no more Final Fours or titles.

And the hammer on Larry has to make Cal hear footsteps.

But the show is a draft game plus free agents.

Wes and CAA could help with free agents, and they could round up the UK guys, but...

The show is tough to corner.

And without a corner, cal iseems a .600-.700 coach.

Basketball Food Adventures • Jan 11, 2016 05:30 AM

@Bwag

Once you get the hang of cooking, then it's like surfing the Internet--one thing leads to another.

Every trip I take at home or abroad leads me into a new kind of cooking and then makes me know the food I grew up with much better.

And once I Iearn the nuts and bolts of a cuisine (i.e., how to achieve the basic tastes of that cuisine), then I innovate my favorite dishes with new tastes.

I love writing, history, and hoops, but cooking and painting and thrift store browsing are the most regenerative activities I have found. Work is work. I really get a charge out of finding and making a new dish someone likes. I just like to cook for 2-4 persons. No dinner parties. My favorite person to cook for is me, though, on a Saturday morning, when no one else is awake. Breakfast is my favorite meal!

Skirred eggs and home made crumpets are another fav.

One little 4 inch diameter Griswold cast iron skillet pre 1950.

Melt slice of butter on skillet on low. Crack egg in. Put some diced shallot and diced bacon on top. Pecorino Romano on top. Pour Lillet or moscato in skillet barely covering exposed iron--a spoonful. Then a spoon of heavy cream on top. Then under a broiler for 1-2 minutes till the egg sets up and the cream sizzles and gets just a bit crisp. On to a plate with a crumpet buttered and jammed. Coffee or tea. Easy and awesome.

Men need to cook to make food worth eating again. When we do, it makes women take cooking seriously again!!!! It makes us both better.

@Bwag

The William's years at KU were either Nike or Nike Jordan to the best of my recollection, but I could be wrong, because there were some brands rising and falling during Roy's KU ERA. Roy on Dean's staff actually dates back to the origins of the Dean-Michael-Sonny-Phil days, or what I like to call the early Shoe World Order. 😄
