@mayjay as @cragarhawk stated, if you keep your man in front of you and donât have to swat him from behind like Mitch did, it much easier to turn and box him. Mitch had a great game no doubt but he also was beat several times that lead to easy buckets or shot blocks.
@mayjay Lol are you serious? When you play good defense itâs easier to box out.
@mayjay yes, but he leads our team in rebounding and only played 13 minutes. Hard to get a rebound when you are called that often for fouls that usually resulted in Fts which they didnât miss but one.
@BShark that and fts was why it was even a contested game. We suck on the glass and it gets really bad when Doke on the bench. Mitch is like Mari was as a high percentage offense rebounder but donât box out.
Graham has done well in big 12 play averaging 25.5 and 6. Hard to ask much more outta him at least offensively, had that big steal late tonight as well. He has added getting to the hoop to his game, just worried heâs gonna get banged up and he did tonight.
And that Doke would be in foul trouble.
I said Mitch would be huge days ago folks
@dylans Alex isnât the problem, had numerous drops today, missed FG and piss poor defense that has zero pass rush.
@dylans pretty epic collapse here, didnât realize it was OU Georgia 2.0
@KUSTEVE They really would be stupid to at this point, keep him on another year and let him be a FA. If he plays bad then you have Mahomes, be crazy to trade the only QB that will probably have 2 playoff wins after today for a franchise with 10 total playoff wins.
@cragarhawk Thatâs a bold prediction đ
@BeddieKU23 very true, I was hoping the
NCAA would clear a couple of guys today....lol. The trouble is if we put a guard on them, they'll go inside, if Doke is on them, they'll go outside. We may end up going with 5 guards like at the end of the tech game.
I feel like the next two road games for us, TCU and WVU are must wins to make up for dropping one at home. This will be a tough gmae no question, Mitch Lightfoot maybe the key because the Vlad can stretch defense, that is a tough guard for Doke. Svi or Vick may get him at times too.
@DoubleDD exactly, even the guys they get that rumored to have baggage or itâs even been pointed out they have baggage, no matter youâre cleared east of the Mississippi.
@Gunman I wish he would do that, send these guys a message. I always told my team that effort was a must, all the time and if they didnât bring that everyday theyâd never play a minute for me. âIâd rather lose by 30 playing our tails off, than lose by 5 because we didnât want it enoughâ - kjayhawks.
Did you see Tech fired their coach on New Yearâs Day? Odd, usually donât see that much in CBB
@Crimsonorblue22 Yes I sure did.... scoreless in 27 minutes. Poetic justice IMO, addition bye subtraction. I canât remember is this her 3rd or 4th school? Iâm shocked anyone took her.
I honestly think the NCAA caters to the east coast like the media does because thatâs where the big money is. You never hear of UK, Duke or UNC having the troubles that we do and they have had several recruits with transcript issues among other things. They are cleared in a heart beat no matter what the case is.
The Kansas womenâs team was able to defeat Texas Tech (6-8) on the road last night to improve to 11-3 (2-1) on the year. They dropped two games in overtime, once at St Johnâs and at Iowa State to open up big 12 play. I was able to watch a little bit and these girls are really playing hard and well together. Winning just 8 games overall and 2 in the conference a year ago, Coach Schneider deserves a ton of credit. I honestly think this team can finish above .500 for the first time since 2013 where they went to the sweet 16.
North Carolina Amnesty Association
Haha just stirring the pot to see reactions đ
@JayHawkFanToo if this team stays as it currently is I will grow udders and get milked before they go .500 in this league. Maybe if Billy and Silvio are cleared maybe we compete with a decent team.
This team is far and away the worst team Self has ever had interms of athletes and toughness. The 2012 team would stomp the daylights outta this bunch, Tyshawn played at an all American level the last half of the year, Trob was an all American, EJ was great as a shooting guard, releford has better defense than any on this team, Withey actually protected the rim, Kevin Young was light years ahead of where Mitch currently is and Teahan averaged more points that Garrett, Mitch and Sam currently do.
1983-84 season was the last time Kansas lost 2 home games by double digits, Tech was Selfs largest margin of defeat in AFH. Roy Williams was 201-17 in the fieldhouse, does Self get to 17 losses this year (currently 12)? I think it easily could happen, I could see us not winning more than 3 more games and going to the NIT. Every other B12 team has guards that are more athletic than ours. I will continue to support this team but I donât expect much of anything out of them.
@DoubleDD I donât think you and I watched the same game. Graham did a great job of being aggressive and getting to the line like Frank would have. I think he was one of a few players that actually tried last night.
@dylans Jump ship...... No way, I'm a KU football fan, this team is bad maybe that means they need our support more. I'm tired of the fans bashing our guys on twitter, its one thing to do it here but good golly, we are better fans than this.
Come on guys, we need to give billy some support, I'm sure he wishes the car didnt exist at this point. His mom seems a little psycho but hey we need all the help we can get here.
@nuleafjhawk 100% true, the softies won't like it but I bet Self said far worse in the locker room.
Tech had 18 offense rebounds, we 21.... total. Rebounding is a hustle stat tho several disagree but HOF coach Self days "the rebounds tell you who played harder" no heart on this club.
Anyone else laugh at how quiet it is in the octagon when we arenât playing there? Thank goodness our fans bring it every night in the fieldhouse. Everytime I hope KSU wins they lose.....
KSU lived at the 3 point line against ISU, West Virginia is has played in your face defense that prevented them from getting decent shots, Wade hasnt even had the chance to shoot from deep. 4 point game for WVU with 4 minutes left can they close out another tight road win?
This afternoon West Virginia travels to the Octogon of dumb to face KSU. West Virginia has ratttled off 12 straight wins since being spanked by Texas A &M to open the season. KSU has played a sub par schedule that includes losing a nail biter to ASU and a loss to Tulsa in Wichita. Both started off the conference season with road wins. Is KSU gonna contend in the big 12? Or are they a pretender?
@wissox I donât have a problem with what Smart said, I was just pointing out what some of the other schools fans in our state were saying. I donât really care what Smart does especially if we beat him.
@HighEliteMajor opinions very buddy and I agree letâs keep going forward.
@HighEliteMajor they shot 49% from 3 while hitting 12 of them Burgess hit 2 after not hitting any all season. We shot less than 36% from the floor. Some credit of coarse goes to their defense but rewatch that game and tell me we didnât miss several wide open looks from distance.
I enjoy beating anyone on any night but winning against Texas is always a good win, in anything. We all know the Shorthorn Network is why there is no B12 Network and they are the ones everyone claims runs the league even tho they have sucked up the place in everything but volleyball for the past like 8 years. Then thereâs the Texas fans along with the KSU and WSU fans that claimed since Smart luckily beat Self once in the NCAAs that he would put a stop to the streak and kick our butts. Letâs all take a minute to laugh at that, Iâm actually surprised how good he hasnât done in Texas with big recruits he as gotten like Bamba and Allen last year. @HighEliteMajor I strongly disagree that he âoutcoachedâ Self is that elite 8. VCU couldnât miss for 5 straight games and shot well above their average. When they stopped hitting everything they threw up the next game they got smoked. We also had nothing from our guards, shot 2-21 from 3. I donât care who youâre playing itâs hard to win shooting like that and I also remember Keef had 8 turnovers, most of them unforced errors (I believe 3 he just step outta bounds). Iâve been involved with basketball wether in coaching, playing or officiating for over 20 years, sometimes the ball just donât go in the hole and coach canât go out there to shoot for them. Thatâs why march madness is the hardest tournament to win IMO.
@Texas-Hawk-10 if you donât think Bill tired to stop guys youâre crazy (just finished reading beyond the streak, they thru everything they could at KD sometimes triple teams). I donât quite think Young is near as good as Beasley or Durant, not even close IMO. It also was huge how good of a job DTG did on Hield in their place the next game, held him to 6 points in the first with all the, coming at the FT line. Held him to below his average so Iâd recommend you check the history. I donât think anyone thatâs covered Self would disagree that he would rather play defense, in fact in that book he says that.
@Texas-Hawk-10 Bill Self wonât like that idea and it didnât work well trying to out score ASU. I think you could beat them ether way but Iâd rather slow him down. When Arkansas beat them he had 28 points, which oddly enough is his lowest point total vs a decent team. You probably wonât shut him down but I bet they lose every game going forward where he doesnât have 20 heck maybe even 25.
TT is rated 7th in Kenpom some how, even with an SOS average of the mid 200s. They are #4 in adjusted defense and 31st in adjusted offensive. They have a veteran group of guys, it will be interesting being their first road game of the season but they have the leadership to give us a battle.
The key to beating OU maybe holding Young to less than 20 and make someone else beat you. Dude is averaging 30 points which is pretty much 1/3 of their total. @Fightsongwriter iI think heâs getting a little love from the zebras, thatâs how a guy plays 39 minutes without a single foul, he had at least 2 that couldâve been called in the parts of the game I watched.
@Gunman idk Iowa State got beat like they stole something by KSU at home. Iâm sure they will play us tough but that was one of the most winnable games from them looking at the numbers early in this conference season.
@BShark figured he would, coach Self said Doke and Newman both wouldnât practice today. If Garrett gets his shot figured out he would probably always start but shoot 41% from the floor, 19% from 3 and 58% from the line are whatâs hurting his minutes. He can guard and pass good but the defense doesnât have to respect his shot at all.
@BShark @dylans Malik hasnât been great but he hasnât been that bad, averages 10.4 ppg (5th on team) and 4.8 rpg (4th on team) all while shooting a sub par 44% from the field and 36% from 3. But he his shooting 94% from the line, he needs to work on his shot and knowing when to pass for a better (averaging just .5 assists per game) shot. Most of his issues are correctable, heâs probably not ever gonna be the top 5 recruit he was rated but he is a very important player for this team going forward. I think youâll see him start to play better here as the season keeps going. Having an ankle issue and a concussion definitely hasnât helped, his worse game was after his concussion vs Nebraska but we donât beat UK without him and Texas wouldâve been tougher without him.
Ayton is very good, this maybe the best draft class for bigs in recent memory. ASU had their chances to win, if they wouldâve hit 14 3s at a 50% clip like they did here, they wouldâve beat Arizona by double digits too. Some of that can be credited to Arizonaâs defense but ASU missed some open ones as well, was a fun game to watch.
Arizona State and Arizona will be a battle tonight, Dook got all they wanted from Florida State and Wake Forest was tied with UNC with a half minute to go in a loss. No great team this season, thats why I disagreed with those that said a #1 seed was already gone. Washington got a big win at USC last night, improving to 11-3 on the season. That may not end up as a horrid loss if they continue to play well.
@JayHawkFanToo Well just say I have no update, telling everyone real soon sucks because most folks "real soon" isn't 3 weeks lol.
Surprised by how well TCU played, boy how does a team stop Young?
OU travels to TCU this afternoon in a interesting match as TCU comes in winners of 17 straight but have not played the greatest SOS. OU comes in with Trae Young who everyone has compared to Steph Curry. I personally think OU stomps the day lights outta them, it will be interesting to see if TCU can have a decent crowd in that fancy new gym. Game time is 1 on ESPN 2.
@KUSTEVE I agree, I think sometimes that being the most competitive league, which the B12 has been IMO for the last 5 years gets mixed up for the toughest.
@HighEliteMajor I agree, I donât think we ever switched from the 2-3it just takes a different look when guys are in different spots. The key to a zone is rotation and communication, Texas didnât move the ball side to side or get it to the third size as coaches would say.
