I mentioned before that Tech. might be the sleeper team in the conference. Hopefully KU does not get too confident or cocky. Hit them early, hit them hard and don’t take the foot off the gas pedal.

Their schedule was not exactly taxing.

TT is rated 7th in Kenpom some how, even with an SOS average of the mid 200s. They are #4 in adjusted defense and 31st in adjusted offensive. They have a veteran group of guys, it will be interesting being their first road game of the season but they have the leadership to give us a battle.

This is a pretty big game. Since #5 and #10 lost I expect KU (and OU) to jump into the top 10. And I expect Tech to be in the teens after blowing out Baylor.

Overall I expect the Big12 to have 3 teams in the top 10 and 5 teams in the top 25 tomorrow. Pretty far from a down conference I'd say.

Veteran squad that passes and shoots well.

Tech has a few freshman playing really well. Besides the guys we already know they have great depth and can bring in a ton of fresh bodies. We will have to play our best at home to win, I see a high scoring game and one we must control Keenan Evans from scoring

Ku will win at home Tuesday night

Will be interesting to see how fouls affect this game. Tech goes 10 deep.. They have made more free throws then we've attempted (which isn't anything new) but they have been more aggressive. So we'll see how the whistle plays into this game. Their top 4 scorers are guards, 2 are freshman and they shoot a very respectable 38% from 3 as a team.

Doke is a major mismatch for them inside. They have bigs but nothing to really challenge him if he's aggressive and we look to get him the ball consistently. 3 of their bench guys are primarily 3 point shooters accounting for 35% of their made 3's. So we have to be mindful of when they go to that 2nd unit.

It's Tech's first road game, this could be ugly for them or this could be a typical game where the opponent comes in fired up. We dominated them in Allen last year and many of those guys are back again. We'll see if the Baylor blowout was more of a product of Baylor being shorthanded or a sign that Tech is for real. I believe the key to victory is limiting Keenan Evans from having a big game, he's been their go-to guy when they've played better teams (29 vs BC, 25 vs Northwestern, 32 vs Nevada, 21 vs Seton Hall.

Quick - Don't look it up, who is the coach at Texas Tech? Did you really answer that question quickly? Why did the last one leave? What was his name? Why did this coach get hired?

This is a must win game for KU. I have a Tech. as my Conference sleeper team and they have good stats and a deeper rotation, the big advantage for KU is Doke for whom they have no match.

Well something has to give I heard, Ku best in the big 12 in offensive fields - -TT best defensively, TT best in defending the 3 in the Big 12, - -TT plus 9 in rebounding - - -Really defend the 3.

A/the big picture - -how they going to defend our big Boy Doke-they have nobody to match up with him. - Could bring their 6'11 boy just not sure how he competes against Doke . - Another big question - -how is Doke's back- how is he going to hold up? - Sounds like he might still be sore - -that's NOT GOOD.

Yet still nothing on Billy , I think he is a lost cause guys - -hopefully De Sosua get's cleared soon - -we are going to have to have him for sure down the road.

I know crazy but IF in the end run Billy doesn't get ever cleared. - -Would it be feasible to at least try and work our walk a little bit more for you know just some spot minutes for Doke- - along with Mitch? - -Give us yet that other body if nothing else to relieve Doke for even 2-3-4 minutes in case of foul trouble - I dunno - -just grasping.

One thing again KU has made 146 three ball's - -TT ha only given up 86 all year. - -Coach Self says this will be the best defensive team we will play all year period.

One kind of a funny note - - Doke finally has found someone that shoots worse Ft % then him - Zach Smith -well wait let me re-phrase -right there with Doke anyways - -Zach shoots 42.9 - -gonna be a very hard game - -buckle up, strap it on - - -ROCK CHALK ALL DAY LONG BABY

Texas Tech actually gives up less then Texas only allowing an average of 58 points a game. Coach says best rebounding team we have faced to date. - -Gonna be a war. - -ROCK CHALK AL L DAY LONG BABY

Gray averages 5.6 ppg and shoots 12.5% from 3. He already has two 3's and 8 points.

Figures. KU has this bad habit of giving one visiting player a career day.

Tech has gotten away with 2 obvious moving screens already. I thought that was a point of emphasis this season.

KU's got to be tougher fighting through screens and on the boards.

Just not a defensive minded group. Three straight times Tech got to the rim for a layup. This is why offense doesn'tget you to the final four folks.

Just no toughness or poise. Doke is the shortest footer I've seen in a while, or TT has folks with reach who can disrupt. Vick doesn't have enough strength with the ball.

just getting beat every phase -getting beat by 10 on the boards -- Ku 10 turnover at the half - -TT 49% - KU 46% - - points off to's 17-4 TT -- pretty well sums it up

Tech is +10 in rebounds and getting almost 50% of their misses with 9 offensive rebounds in 19 chances (KU has 10 defensive boards). This is an effort issue more than anything else on defense. Somebody has to want to play defense and motivate the rest of the team because whatever Self and staff have told them repeatedly clearly isn't working

Give TT credit. They came ready to play and hit KU right in the mouth. So will every other B12 team that comes into the Phog. This is going to be a long year folks.

39 rebounding opportunities on Tech's end. KU got 21 and Tech got 18 of them. That really is just an effort issue beyond anything else. Not going to win with effort like that.

This season just got very scary.

We don't have a player that can attack the rim like Frank. Graham is the closest thing we have to Frank. Graham does not lead attacks. He leads guys to do the wrong thing on certain plays.

Graham was the only one who drove to the basket. And Cunliffe a bit at the end. Graham shot 13 free throws. Doke shot 7. The rest of the team shot 3. Vick and Svi have to be willing to put the ball on the floor and try to get to the line every once in a while.

Eh, I don't have too many complaints about how Graham played tonight. He went to the line 13 times and had 6 assists. If I were to make a criticism it's that he got a little too cute sometimes and turned the ball over. He had 5 turnovers. I think getting beat by 15 on the glass was the biggest thing. Tech just look like they wanted it more than KU did tonight.

Tech had 18 offense rebounds, we 21.... total. Rebounding is a hustle stat tho several disagree but HOF coach Self days "the rebounds tell you who played harder" no heart on this club.

So you are wondering if there is an excuse? There isn’t. The team just isn’t that good this year. On top of average talent, it’s extremely thin and too dependent on the 3. That makes our margin of error razor thin.

@Blown I would just about guarantee Self absolutely went off on the team in the locker room at some point tonight. He looked pretty pissed off most of the game tonight and I'm assuming their lack of effort was why.

Tonight wasn't KU getting beat by a better team, this was straight up a lack of effort which is absolutely within the player's control and something Self will peel the paint off the walls about with his team.

Self apparently won't publicly throw this team under the bus, but after tonight, they need to be thrown under the bus. The lack of effort was the biggest culprit tonight which is inexcusable at any point in time because it's the one thing that is always within a player's control.

Guys & Gals - here's the deal:

98% of the time that KU loses, it's on Bill Self. The reason we lost this game - and the reason we lose games in late March and early April - Bill Self decides the KU team that has brought him all the glory is suddenly a different team. He plays to the strengths of the opposition. You've heard it said that coaches tell players to just play and never look at the scoreboard? This year, Self needs to play the team that is in the elite in the country in 3 pt shooting and not look at the schedule. They should practice with KANSAS in mind - not any other team. We play our game, we win every time regardless of the opponent.

I don’t think we can complain about the complete lack of talent on the team. Cunliffe was the highest rated recuit to sign with ASU in nearly a decade and he sits on our bench. There is no post depth and no size beyond Dok. You add 2 post players who are ready and able to play and it completely changes the complexion of the team. All the sudden a guard messes up and he can be yanked to learn. If Graham could sit for 5 minutes a game he’d be a lot fresher and if you are only playing 3 guards instead of 4 you have that many more guard minutes to go around. KU could pound it inside and foul up the other team on a poor shooting night. Also with 3 guards you could hide the defensive shortcomings of Svi better by not leaving him out there all night. Svi is pretty much of a jump shooter, not a driver, not a defender. Malik needs motivated, I was hoping coming off the bench would do it, maybe he needs his minutes cut back until he’s healed up.

So I do think the team can get better by playing the guards less, but only if Billy Preston can play and is as good as I think he appeared in the pre-season. Dude knows how to get baskets. Silvio will help, but I expect less production from him than we could get from Billy.
