Well, back to yuletide madness...
Till next Saturday...RCJH !
Well, back to yuletide madness...
Till next Saturday...RCJH !
Seemed like a "meh" second half. Okay D with occasional bright spots on offense. Nobody really outstanding except maybe Selden from 3. Did like Mason's game underneath. Diallo showing the usual growing pains. Hope to see some improvement against Gary Payton and OSU.
Guys look loose too...then again, maybe it's just the zone D.
Showtime !
@benshawks08 "English is a stretch language; one size fits all. That does not mean anything goes; in most instances, anything does not go. But the language, as it changes, conforms itself to special groups and occasions."
@JayHawkFanToo Yeah, I wasn't hip enough for disco and not angry enough for punk. (Though I did see a GREAT Ramones show at the old One Block West club near KU Med Center.)
@Crimsonorblue22 I have mericfully few from that era. I can tell you that within a couple of years I went from medium-bushy hair with beard, to a man-perm with porn star moustache !
@RockChalkinTexas And for the rest of us, the fashion choices were disco or punk...
Speaking of uni numbers, it was Clint's teammate John Douglas who wore #13. That was the first time I realized that KU hadn't retired Wilt's number.
@Crimsonorblue22 Not so bad...Darnell Valentine, Paul Mokeski & Ken Koenigs were also on those teams.
@RockChalkinTexas Didn't Clint wear Wilt's old number (13) at KU ? Or am I thinking of someone else from that era ?
A question to any of you about ex-Royal Nori Aoki, who just signed a one-year deal (plus 2017 option) with the Seattle Mariners....
The new GM here isn't wasting any time rebuilding the outfield, which has been godawful both offensively and defensively in recent years. Aoki's stats (even the esoteric ones) look like a big improvement.
All I've really seen of him was during the 2014 playoffs, where he was okay if occasionally scary with the glove.
Any takes on this ?? Is $4 million worth it for a 34-year-old ?
@benshawks08 Poetic justice that they both lost tonite !
Channel-surfing tonight, I see Jim Boeheim on the sidelines for Syracuse. The same Jim Boeheim that the NCAA suspended a bunch of games.
So let me get this right....according to the NCAA he's innocent until proven guilty, so he gets to coach while his case is "pending."
Meanwhile, according to the same NCAA, Diallo was guilty till proven innocent. (Or at least until HCBS and Zenger raised holy hell in the media.)
Where's the consistency in all this ?
.
Let the Cheick headline puns begin...
Time for me to Cheick out. RCJH !
Nice second half. Need to pick it up earlier next time.
NICE JOB BIG FELLA !
Guess I spoke too soon about a good ESPN3 feed...just lost the audio.
Mason on ESPN NOT Top Ten.
@Crimsonorblue22 Seems like there have been other 13s since Wilt.
Just took a look at the NBA scores. Sixers may actually win a game, against Kobe & the Lakers no less. The NBA equivalent of KU-K-State foolball.
@wissoxfan83 Ditto. Seems to be working okay tonight.
Yeeeeesh........ another damn Patriot league upset if we're not careful.
More like it.
Perimeter D, anyone ?
@Crimsonorblue22 I'm thinking more along the lines of a late-season injury that might give him second thoughts about going to the draft.
I could definitely see Diallo breaking the school blocks record, but he'd have to stay three years. No way that happens unless he gets injured.
@brooksmd Not sure but TV said they didn't practice until yesterday.
CHEICK TIME !!!!!!!!!!!!!!
@wissoxfan83 You're never alone when you talk to yourself !
Hawks, 93-72. Diallo with 11 points, 7 boards. 2 blocks.
RE: the Jesuits:
Lots of Jesuit-run schools, since they're located mostly in big cities, concentrate on hoops and have pretty good basketball traditions (Gonzaga, Georgetown, Marquette, etc.). Fortunately these guys aren't anywhere in that ballpark.
@drgnslayr I understand the generational split. The way the question is phrased, though, we're just taking about a NC this season only. We've already got three NCAA titles, and it's not like this generation doesn't know that KU is one of the nation's top programs, even if they don't know the details about our long and storied tradition from Naismith on down.
Like Tiger, Ali and Jordan, Wilt is a legend whose fame goes well beyond the sports world. And no, he didn't win us a title. But I'll still take Wilt by association.
Another Jayhawk success story...
Happy Thanksgiving from sunny (for a change) Seattle !
I'm thankful for my health, freedom from want, and family...and that includes my extended Jayhawk family !
Rock Chalk Gobble Gobble !
Everybody have a great Turkey Day,,,see you in the Diallo Era !
WAVE THE WHEAT HULA STYLE !!!!!!!
'96-'97 team that won in Maui last time...best KU team to never win a title?
Wayne running out of gas.
RUN THE COURT BIG FELLA !
Makeup call?
If you can't go over 'em, go under 'em...
Ugly half. Lucky to only be down by 4.
How about a little D somebody !
Missed that...I've got one eye on KU-KSU volleyball. Hawks leading 2 sets to 1, and about to close it out in the 4th.
Maybe someone who's been inside that gym call tell me...have they solved the problem they had a few years ago with the slippery floor?
Hmmm, as I type this, the ref just had them wipe up a wet spot on the court. Guess not.
This was a big issue in that game Gonzaga played on the Marine base a couple of weeks ago.
At least HCBS seems to be making sure that the players get plenty hydrated.
@AsadZ I had a couple of friends who lived there. One summer I worked in the cafeteria kitchen when they were feeding the high school kids who were on campus for summer camps.
F0rtunately they saved my old dorm, J.R. Pearson Hall, and turned it into the Education department building. When I visited there last spring I stopped by my old top-floor room at JRP; it's now a supply room. Still has a great view of Potter Lake, the stadium, the "golden valley," and all points north and east.

Got up early to watch it live this morning. As a former dorm resident (not McCollum), it's a bit sad to to see these older buildings go down...
@Crimsonorblue22 Wow! What a great tree. I still have my World Series ornament from 1985. Gotta get one for this year too. (And of course, KU National Championship ones too.)
Personally, I'd add a few other KC-related things to the tree, like, say, an ornament with a picture of the Plaza lights, or maybe some mini-bottles of local barbecue sauce...
What I saw against N. Colorado bodes well for us, even when you figure in the step up in class. Even if the outside shots don't fall as often, our inside depth should give us the edge. I see a back and forth game, with KU pulling away late.
I'll be enjoying the game from our usual alumni hangout right across the street from the Space Needle. (Decked out over the weekend with the French flag, in tribute.)
Ditto ! And thanks for editing out the commercials...it made the seemingly endless second half a little less wearing. (Though I guess nothing could be done about ESPN's out of sync audio.)
Yeah, shouldn't look ahead, but I'm more optimistic about the opener after tonight.
See you guys Friday! Happy Veterans Day, and thanks to all who served.
