Getting pretty quiet in there...I can hear our fans now!
@DoubleDD By the way, I just picked up kielbasa for my Chirstmas feast from a place called..Double DD Meats!
They also sell hundreds of brands of Barbecue sauce. Pricey, though...a bottle of Bryant's runs about nine bucks!
Try not to foul, Cheick.
@Crimsonorblue22 Not bad. Energetic without screaming.
DESIGNER !
@brooksmd Go to firstrowi.eu, then call up their basketball menu.
A little poise guys !
Oops, original.
@Bwag Lame, they're using the USA Soccer chant "I believe that we will win." How orignal.
Okay, I got audio and video...at least until the next pop-up ad...
...sadly, no game feed, though...
@approxinfinity Speaking of Huggy, I just tried to bring up the KU game on First Row Sports and got a pop-up ad for Huggies!
@Lulufulu If last Saturday was Upset Saturday, it's looking like tonight is near-upset Tuesday.
Oakland takes Sparty to OT before losing, Cincinnati gets beat by a late Iowa State three.
And even UMKC is looking respectable so far at Louisville.
I like our chances tonight...I'm just sayin'.
@JhawkAlum I used to use First Row Sports, but it's a pain in the butt because you have to get rid of all the pop-up windows to watch a game.
Aaarrgggh!
Iowa State pulls one out against Cincy with (what else?) a late 3. Bearcats missed three game-winning shots at the end.
Oh well, I guess at least it helps our strength of schedule.
@wrwlumpy Other than "Got My Mojo Workin'," I didn't really get into Jimmy until I took Dick Wright's History of Jazz class at KU. Dick was the general Manager at KANU (now KPR) and had a basement library of over 10,000 albums, mostly jazz & classical.
@wrwlumpy Sounds like one amazing night. I was a big Butterfly fan, partly because of the organ licks. My Mom was organist at our church, and these guys made the organ sound cool again after having to listen to years of hymns. (Later I picked up on Jimmy Smith, who knocked it out of the park.)
@wrwlumpy Once again, great job on the photos and info. Didn't know that Ann Wilson of Heart was born in San Diego...the folks around here make a big deal out of her being "Seattle's own." Turns out she was a military brat whose folks moved up here during her HS years. Heart started out a Led Zeppelin cover band and were just breaking out nationally around the time I got out of KU.
Speaking of KU, don't know if it was mentioned on this thread, but SD was Wilt's last career stop, as player/coach of the San Diego Conquistadors of the ABA.
I guess it all comes down to cost vs. value. My cable system also has CBS Sports on its extended sport tier, but I can't justify paying the extra bucks to access the handful of games/programs that I really want to see.
Sucks that I can't watch the KU game Tuesday on cable, but at least I'm fortunate to live outside of the blackout area. Meanwhile, don't be surprised if we see a la carte channel selection soon.
@globaljaybird And in the immortal words of James Naismith's interviewer, Gabriel Heatter:
"There's good news tonight."
Hawks win, Duke, UK & ISU go down.
Time for a nightcap...
GREAT SEASON LADIES ! Get 'em next year...
Proud of the way they came back in the 3rd.
Damn
C'mon...one last push !
Need a big run now.
GO BIG BLUE !
@Crimsonorblue22 Just the fact that they could win a set in that atmosphere impresses me. Not done yet though...
Huskers starting to make the mistakes now
YEAH ! GOT ONE ! Not dead yet !
Almost there
Nice KU banner
They finally got out the light sabers !
Back to the Xmas cards for a bit...
Down 0-2...a big mountain to climb. Need to make adjustments during the break, but I don't think it'll be enough.
If there's any positives, it's that this is a sport of streaks. KU won the last 6 straight points to beat USC...need something like that now.
Wow...pretty ugly
@brooksmd Almost as impressive empty as is is when it's full and rockin'.
@Crimsonorblue22 I felt like that kid in the photo when I visited AFH last spring.
Gotta come back in the 2nd set...don't want to be down by 2 in what's essentially a road match.
@Crimsonorblue22 Early match jitters...we'll see how much the lack of Final Four experience affects them.
@brooksmd Let's get it on Hawks !
@JayHawkFanToo These things run in cycles...Nebraska and Texas have had strong programs for quite a while now, Penn State even longer. But if you look at the tournament history, the Pac=12/10/8 have been the deepest conference over the years.
Good to see KU and some of the other teams make their mark, though...it's better for the sport that way.
@brooksmd Well, a pro-Nebraska crowd anyway.
Watched a replay of the USC match. Great comeback against a team that looked like they had all the momentum going into the final set.
Last night I talked with a friend who used to play volleyball for Stanford. She was stunned to hear that USC got knocked out, given the Pac-12's reputation as the dominant conference in the country. KU almost ended up facing Washington in the Final Four (another former national champ from the Pac=12 who couldn't get past Nebraska).
@wrwlumpy Thanks again for the photos...brings back lots of memories.
When you take the Amtrak train Empire Builder west from Chicago during the summer, it goes through the park right around sunset.
@jaybate-1.0 Wow...Nick Pino....a name I Iiterally haven't heard since his playing days, and for good reason. The first big man I ever saw with a negative vertical...
When I first saw Ostertag play at KU he reminded me a bit of Pino, but at least he could block shots, and managed to parlay that into a pretty good career.
Great find by Dr. Zogry. Sounds like it was a highly scripted interview, but I guess that's how they did everything back then.
By the way, the interviewer, Gabriel Heatter, was known across America for his catchphrase, "There's good news tonight"...sort of the '30s/'40s equivalent of "That's the way it is" for Walter Cronkite.
Saw a bit of their last game vs. Washington on local TV. The young Huskies team doesn't play much defense but didn't have a problem beating the Griz.
Thanks for the photos...Glacier National Park is one of my favorite vacation spots. Also the first time I ever saw a bear in the wild. Last time I was there I hiked a trail across the border into Canada's Waterton Provincial Park. (This was just before 9/11, so I don't know if that trail is still open.) Even for non-hkers, the drive on Going-To-The-Sun Road is spectacular.
A lot of the glaciers there are melting, though...gotta get back soon.
Didn't get a chance to watch the Chiefs game, but I heard the last few minutes online. I've been an Andy Reid fan back to his early Philly days. Happy for him & the team.
Great weekend to be a fan of the two hottest teams in the NFL (Seahawks & Chiefs) ! Both of them were given up for dead six weeks ago..."How Ya Like Me Now?:"
@drgnslayr From what I gather talking to local OSU alums, Ralph Miller is thought of as their Phog Allen (which makes sense since Ralph played for Phog).
@wissoxfan83 Nope. A guy named Wayne Tinkle took over last season. His son starts alongside Gary Payton's kid.
