ISt has -12 yds rushing. So far so good defense
Offense showed it can move the ball. Defense must hold
While waiting endlessly for our game to start, I find myself rooting for Ole Miss against Kentucky. Ole Miss 22,#7 Kentucky 19, 3 minutes to go and Ole Miss has the ball.
@jayballer67 TCU with 27 first Q points, but still 3 Qs to play.
Yes, JBaller, ISt stats show QB Dekkers #12 is not likely to run for any yds, and is mostly a drop-back passer: 101/141 72%, 1,029 yds. ISt only has 534 total yds. rushing of which #21, Jirehl Brock has 64 rushes for 353 yds. The primary passing target is #8 Xavier Hutchinson 36 catches, 403 yds. So, a pass first offense will test our secondary. The biggest question will be can our Dline pressure Dekkers and get him to throw INTs or incompletions?
Correction: ISt play breakdown is 147 passes to 136 rushes. But, yds gained heavily favors their passing game. KU has rushed 148 plays to 94 passes. Yds gained for KU are about even with 981 yds rushing and 906 yds passing.
I'm surprised that there is so much less chatter about today's game. It's Homecoming on the Hill and KU is 4 and 0. I've watched a bit of ISt this year and after enduring Brock Purdy for 4 long years, I'm not impressed with ISt's offense this year. Clearly they are a huge step behind the Purdy/Breece offense and before that Montgomery. KU's offense is stronger, so this game will be determined by the defenses. ISt's stats are not helpful because half come from playing cupcakes SE Mo St and Ohio. How is it that KU plays such a tougher non-conference schedule than the recently more successful program that ISt has been?
I sure would like to see Neal, Hishaw, Morrison, et al. handle the bulk of the rushing offense. I'm still waiting for our running backs to dominate several series, especially late in the game where they failed against Duke. I'm constantly impressed with Daniels' passing accuracy and hope he really challenges the ISt secondary. Anyway, game time is close enough that I wonder what everyone else is thinking. Maybe, all our posters are traveling to the game. RC
The line of 5.5 in favor of the Chiefs seems too low. The Colts lost 24-0 to the Jags last week. Matt Ryan is 48/80, 547 yds, but just 1 TD, 4 INTs and 7 sacks. Mahomes is 54/74, 595 yds, 7 TDs, 0 INTs, 1 sack against much better teams. My only concern is that the Chiefs decide to take the week off and let Indy hang in the game too long.
Will KU be ranked or not? CBS Sports speculates that KU will be 25, partially based on emotional response by voters. The AP Poll announces at 3PM Central time. Rock Chalk Baby!
Besides KU QB A+, what grades are we giving the rest of the positions for today's game?
Maybe KU will take Texas' place in the top 25 now that TxTech beat Tx.
Duke was much better than I thought they would be. KU definitely had to play its best game to win this. Jalon was great; next level passing and in the first half his rushes gave us a great start to the game. Duke's defense was there on all our big passing plays and mostly stopped the run in the second half. Glad to get this win and move on to Iowa St.

Ate late lunch but was watching...... So happy for the team and for the fans. Fans need to show up next week vs. the Clones!!
RockChalkJayhawk
Go KU
4-0
Winners
Homecoming next week, so I think the crowd will be bigger than today. Plus, Iowa St will bring some fans to the game.
Our defense is going to keep all our opponents in the game.
KU should probably pass more: Daniels, 12/14 236 yds and 4 TDs
Nice TD pass
The stadium looks great, full. Hopefully KU keeps this up. A lot to look forward to.
Why are our defenders all tackling high? Lots of extra yds for Duke
@DanR said in Just Beat Duke, OK!:
All right, our warm up quarter is over. Let's get rolling!
And we aren't down 2 TDs
No pressure on Leonard
The offense didn’t even get a chance to catch their breath
Time for the defense to step up and get us a quick stop.
That punt was about 70 yds in the air.
Why run it up the middle? Run daniels outside with option to throw or run. Jeez
@jayballer67 I just listen to the Jayhawk network on my computer. You can listen to KKSW out of Lawrence on the internet. That's how Mark Cuban got so rich, putting radio stations on the internet.
I heard on the pregame radio that KU will be dressed in crimson pants and jerseys.
This game appears to be KU's biggest game since the 2008 Orange Bowl. Beat Duke and KU's national spotlight continues. A win today means all the 47,000 fans at the game will be back next week for a win against Iowa St.
@FarmerJayhawk Thanks for posting the depth chart. I'm not good at noticing when a backup has entered on the offensive line and most announcers don't notice it either. In years past, our coaches had the same player listed as backup in more than one position, so the depth chart listing LT Satterwhite, RS-F; LG Reed-Adams,RS-So; C Doiron,RS-So; RG Gorczyca, RS-F; and RT, Livingston, F as our 2 deeps is a welcome change. Gotta Beat Duke Today.

@stoptheflop KU's defense currently ranks 84th in total defense and 83rd in scoring defense and Houston did outgain KU on offense last week. They're improved from last year, but improved from the worst still only gets them to a bad defense. West Virginia is a good team with a good offense and they had no issues moving the ball and scoring on KU's defense.
Is Duke better than West Virginia? No, but they've looked better than Houston has so far on offense so they'll be able to score on KU's defense. Duke's defense has average against bad teams so I expect KU's offense to carve up Duke's defense and put up a lot of points today.
I look for KU to win today with a score of 49-35
I'm hoping KU's defense shows improvement and greatly slows down Riley Leonard. Leonard has been OK against weak opponents. I hope KU's defense shows improvement, so we don't have to win by outscoring Duke in a track meet.

Just heard that Duke has played the 2nd easiest schedule this year , only Minnesota is worse. - - -The over /under is 63 1/2 - - that 63 1/2 is gonna fall - there will be more then that
Jballer, are you reading the Duke hack, Del Barris? Oh boy, it's on like donkey kong. Barris says KU will face "the best and most physical defense they've seen yet..." Then, Barris writes that KU's defense is giving up 35+ pts per game against "FBS competition" this year. What a hack. Whew boy, this is going to be a fun game at 11:00. Our guys better step up and put a thumping on the Devils.
So much of this year's success is directly related to the superior play of our OL that I wanted to name these athletes and start the discussion. I was disappointed that I couldn't find a current depth chart for our Jayhawks. The same players have started all three games and I'll appreciate everyone's contributions to identify and praise the rest of our linemen, who are equally responsible for our 3-0 start.
LT #68 Earl Bostwick, Jr. Super Senior, 6'6", 310, Barnwell SC;
LG #67 Dominick Puni, RS-Senior, 6'5, 315, St Charles MO;
C #50 Mike Novitsky, RS-Senior, 6'5", 300, Victor NY;
RG #54 Michael Ford,Jr RS-So, 6'3", 300, Homewood IL;
RT #77 Bryce Cabeldue RS-So, 6'6", 305, Clovis NM
No sacks through 3 games. We have to acknowledge Coach Scott Fuchs for putting this great offensive line on the field. Goodness, how many years have KU fans suffered through poor offensive line play. Now, I can't wait for our players to manhandle and dominate the Blue Devil defense. It's almost October and for the first time in many years I can't wait for Saturday game time.
So glad to see the fan support for our football team. Two things I hope to see Saturday: first, that the defense plays from the openning snap and doesn't spot the Devils 2 TDs; and second that our running backs see more success and end up with most of the rushing yards rather than our invaluable QB. Game time is only about 40 hours away my friends.
CBS Sports has KU ranked 30, so with a win over Duke now ranked 38, KU should be ranked in the Top 25. KU was last ranked in the Top 25 the week of October 18, 2009 at 24, which was down from 17 the previous week. Wow. Amazing.
@KirkIsMyHinrich said in Just Beat Duke, OK!:
Duke received two votes too. Really looking forward to the game on Saturday. Hopefully Booth is packed
I'm hearing people say it's hard to get tickets.
What a change from last year to see our leading tacklers being linebackers and defensive ends, not dbacks. Total tackles: Rich Miller, 9; Craig Young, 7; Lonnie Phelps, 5; Lorenzo McCaskill, 4; and Hayden Hatcher, 4. No longer does Kenny Logan have to do it all by himself. Yesterday he had 5 tackles. I thought the defense took a big step forward yesterday.
The home game against Duke presents a great opportunity for KU football to fully establish itself as a legitimate football program. Duke looks a lot like KU with a dual threat QB. Here are the QB stats:
Our guy, the Best QB around, passing 47/70 67%, 566yds, 7 TDs, 1 INT; rushing 27/237yds, 3TDs;
Riley Leonard, #13, So, 6'4" 212lbs. passing 48/66 73%, 723 yds, 5TDs, 2 INT; rushing 22/147yds, 2TDs
Like KU, Duke doesn't rely on one main running back. KU definitely appears to have the edge rushing the ball. Neal 28/204 yds. 4TDs and Hishaw 26/170yds, 4TDs. For Duke, Junior RB Coleman #22, 29/177yds, 3TDs and Junior Waters, #7, 25/174yds, 2TDs.
We have a long week ahead of this epic game. I'm confident KU fans will show up to support our 3-0 Hawks.
Next 3 games are home games: Duke, Iowa St and TCU. Could KU be bowl eligible after the TCU game?
Jalon Daniels 3 passing and 2 rushing TDs. Wow
I'm reminded of how easily WV scored 11 to get the game to OT. Come on offense eat clock
KU defense plays pretty soft with the lead. What's up?
Is this a Big 12 officiating crew? I hear lots of complaints about holds not being called.
Daniels has thrown to 11 different receivers.
May we please stop running up the middle. Our outside runs go for mucho yds.
Anyone else besides TexasHawk at the game? Sure wish I was there
Jalon has 115 rushing yds; our next highest rusher is Hishaw with 24
As a 60+ year KU football fan, I request a defensive stop right here.
Jeez our D starts slowly
So far, KU D has taken a big step forward. Yes, the offense is wonderous, but our defense is improving
Duke QB Riley Leonard is lighting up NC A&T. Looks like he will really test our dbacks next week.
Former QB Torry Locklin leads all receivers with 60 yds and a TD. I knew the kid was a player
Now, a big defensive stop would really slow down the Cougs
