I just read a great article by Scott Braswell that made me proud to be a Jayhawk. Wow, what a year and what a team. I'm so proud of Dok, 2020 B12 POY, Dotson and Dok as unanimous selections to 2020 B12 First Team and Marcus Garrett the 2020 Big12 Defensive Player of the Year. The awards just keep going on and on for our guys. Wow.
My random thought is how much I love the tournament settings and process. When I saw KU plays at 1:30 on Thursday, I began rearranging my schedule and deciding what types of beer I need in the office frig for the people in my building who will certainly drop in to catch a bit of the game. Rock Chalk, baby.
@Texas-Hawk-10 Thanks, Hawk. Who needs Joe Lunardi when we have such committed poster here.
Thanks Crimson. Exactly what I was looking for this morning.
Ramsey had 26 in Lawrence, but just 6 today at home. Freshman.
Is Moss helping enough to continue to start? 1/6 for 3 pts and 2 rbs. ?
Dotson's 5 TO's really stand out in the stat sheet.
I wonder what the dispute was between coach and Dok? It looked like Dok said something that made coach mad.
I'm glad to see that a least one other B12 school has great fan support for bb.
@BeddieKU23 Hell, I'm limping from jumping out of my damn chair and yelling at our guys.
I cancelled ESPN+ after our last game, so I'm following the WV score on the ESSPN website.
TT is missing a lot of the mid-range shots. I sure hope that continues in the 2nd half
WV up 11 with 3 min left. RC
WV up 5 with 4 min left
WV up 3 with 6:30 min to go.
No shots by Moss. KU really needs a few shots attempts by Moss per half. Otherwise, give Braun more minutes.
With 2 min left in the half, WV up by 7 on Baylor. RC
@drgnslayr Regarding Dok's FT shooting, I see now that he is really exagerating the back spin he's putting on the ball with his right hand. So much back spin that he's missing long on his FTs. I never felt like back spin helped. My best success came from shot putting a dead ball with no spin, and just making sure it drops softly down on the rim. I can still hit 7/10 without any practice.
@drgnslayr Speaking of setting good screens, do you see that Dok is still sticking his hip out when the defender goes by to enhance his screen? I love Dok and his competitiveness, but I think he's going to pick up a foul on his illegal screens at a critical time.
@dylans The same switching happened against Baylor and the Baylor guard was smart enough to take the ball back toward half court so Dok was 25 feet from the rim. The problem I've seen is Dok doesn't commit to defending the guard with his height to prevent a 3 and use his reach to make passing difficult; Dok tends to back off giving the ball handler easy options.
Anyone else wondering if our switching defense is supposed to include Dok or if that's a mistake by the guards who switch leaving Dok on a guard at the top of the key? Dok is getting stuck out there several times every game and his reaction seems to indicate its by mistake. He looks over his shoulder and never really commits to fully guarding against the 3. If he switches and is on a perimeter shooter, Dok needs to commit to stopping the 3 ball and let whomever is under the rim do the best they can. Dok finds himself in no man's land and sometimes leaves the ball handler unguarded. I can't remember a single other year where our big is left at the top of the key guarding the ball handling guard on the perimeter. What's up?
Coach needs to send in a play for Dok. Finish up with 30+
Why can't our guards guard all their guys on the arc? We always leave on guy wide open.
Got to get Dok going again.
@BShark But, Dok is only 4/10 at the line. IDK
Dok has really good hands. We're going to miss that next year.
Some how our center keeps switching at the top of the key and ends up on the guard 20 feet from the rim.
Both TCU bigs on the bench, but now KU doesn't look to Dok first. ?????
Slow start for Dotson again.
Bench scoring today: McCormick 9 and Braun 6. That helps.
Baylor going down. KU alone at the top for now. Rock Chalk
No scorers in double figures except Dotson's 25.
The box score is brutal: after Dotson, the next high scorer is Dave with 7
@dylans At this point, I'd vote to share the MVP with Dotson and Dok. Dotson has won a lot of games for us and Dok is the game changer.
5/6, 4/4 fts and 15 pts. Thank goodness Dotson came to play.
Garrett hasn't shot and is 1/4 on FTs. He is working hard on D like always
Why is Dok switching on defense like a guard? That leaves him guarding the arc and even KState is smart enough to make him come all the way out to the 3 point line and get the easy score inside.
Texas up by 6 on TT with 30 seconds to go.
I'm watching the Tx/TTech game. TT is getting a bunch of offensive foul calls in the first half. That's something for KU to watch out for next Sat. I'm also impressed with the TT fans. They are actually part of the game, unlike other Big 12 arenas.
Really hoping our guys play their normal tough defense, attack the rim on offense and find a way to ignore any antics by the KState fans. I hope CBS decides not to emphansize the earlier hostilities by showing the altercation over and over and then showing whatever is going on with the fans. KState is lucky to be playing KU because it gets them on network television. KState as a team needs to find a way to compete so it doesn't waste the benefits of being seen by a larger audience. This will be interesting and I hope our guys get a decent lead early and keep the lead throughout.
How soon will Silvio be available?
Is blocking out no longer a practiced skill. Good grief.
Is the Big 12 Championship going to come down to the last weekend when both KU and Baylor play road games? KU plays OState, @KState, TCU, then @TT. Baylor plays KState, @TCU, TT, then @WV. I like our chances of winning the championship outright. We need some help. I'm hoping WV gets its game together and smothers Baylor in the last game. RC
@wissox I thought coach left Dok in too long during the last minute when KU was having trouble getting the ball in bounds. KU needed another ball handler in the game, not Dok down at the other end of the court. I think Dok was in until the 7 sec mark. No offense to Dok; he won the game for us today. We just needed a fifth, great FT shooting guard in the game when we were desperately trying to in bound the ball. Great win.
I know many posters really support and believe in Ochai. But, 0/5 and he constantly got beat on defense today. Come on, man.
There should be some way for the officials to be in the same position on both ends of the court. Here, the official under the basket on our end is letting them play, but when we are on defense the other official is calling a tight game in the paint. And, no it doesn't even out when we switch at the half because we must play differently with all the extra fouls on us. 10 fouls called against us and 5 against Baylor. BS
Everyone can see that KU is playing with more intensity on both ends of the court the last several games. If we play defense and offense like we did against OU and ISU today, KU has a great chance to get a road victory over the number 1 team and get back to even in the Big 12 race.
Who else remembers the big gorilla that the OU students used a couple of years ago to distract our FT shooters? It was at least 6 ft tall and the head spun in a circle. It was the same year that Arizona State's cheerleaders used the shower curtain on the baseline. I never heard one thing about those distractions, but they've gone away, so I guess the NCAA put an end to them. I never saw any similar distractions used against any other team than KU.
ESPN is only giving Dok credit for 3 rbs. I'm sure he has more than that. Dok is playing a whale of a game
Scrappy offense for the good guys. Playing as hard as I've seen them play this year
