@KansasComet No worries there...the little bowling ball isn't going anywhere but in the lane.

Recruiting β€’ Feb 05, 2015 05:49 AM

@BeddieKU23 I've heard the UNLV rumors too. But most of the experts have him leaning UK. I think he's waiting for the UK bigs to shake out.

@JayhawkRock78 I just see Self show casing Oubre a lot more lately. He's responding too.

Then you will be ready for the pros. I agree if they are smart, they should all stay together and have something special.

Recruiting β€’ Feb 05, 2015 05:45 AM

@icthawkfan316 All the recruiting 'experts' have Diallo leaning strongly to of all programs...ISU.

Zimmerman was my pick for a long time. He slips from KU with each passing day. I hope to be wrong.
I love Newman. Most have him going to UK.
Rabb is a UK lean according to the experts.

UK is going to be interesting. Calipari couldn't pay to get rid of the twins and he could be stuck with them another year. UK will be guard heavy. Even with them leaving he's got another slew of guards. They already have 4 commitments. It doesn't matter to me, but I would think Cauley-Stine, Towns, and possibly Johnson are likely to exit.

I'm trying to be somewhat practical and fill based on need and strategy, not simply to fill a slot. I love Calipari's comment to one recruit, "Don't come to UK unless you want to go to the NBA." I guess Calipari's program is the only program that sends players to the NBA...lol

I would be fine with keeping what we have and gaining Bragg and 1-2 more. Either way is great. I don't see Mason or Graham going anywhere. We are fortunate to have both pgs. I remember reading many comments about Self's pg situation. Now he's got two of the best pgs in the nation.

Wheels coming off in Austin?? β€’ Feb 05, 2015 05:21 AM

Consistent coaching under Barnes, once again. He under achieves with some good talent. He's doing a 'great' job with Turner. Turner would be budding into a promising big at KU right now. He would thrive under Self's hi-lo offense, but he seems to thrive under Barnes' system at this point. Turner would also be able to pick and pop under Self. We had room too.

We've seen this before from Barnes. I even gave him the benefit of the doubt in years past. I thought UT would come back at some point. He tends to lose the handle each time they play and lose to KU. There's a lot of bball left, but Barnes never seems to get back on track and deliver.
!Barnes1.jpg β†— I just don't get it...
!Barnes9.jpg β†— Hook 'em Horns and do I have a job after this game?

!Barnes5.jpg β†— How in the hell does Bill Self beat me?

!Barnes4.jpg β†— Where is Kevin Durant?

!Barnes i'm done.jpg β†— I'm done

!Barnes on the recruiting trail.jpg β†— Forget Calipari...I'll show him. Jay Z has nuttin on the Beav...And I might recruit this one for locker room entertainment

!Barnes and redhead.jpg β†— Where is that redhead?

Recruiting β€’ Feb 04, 2015 04:44 AM

I've been reading about the recruiting since Bragg signed. He claims to be recruiting Brown and Ingram. I think it's nice to talk 'package' deal, but not too sure how that will work. I tried to make sense of how each would fill a role.

Bragg can fill Alexander's slot.
Newman can fill Selden's slot. KU is gaining ground and if Selden leaves, he would fill that 2 guard nicely.
Brown could fill Oubre's slot. Brown seems Wiggins-esque, but plays more like Oubre.
Ingram? He'll have to be patient and wait on Ellis.

Folks...don't look now, but if I can count correctly and according to the roster, we have 11 schollies. We have two extra now.

If you factor in the exit of Selden, Oubre and Alexander...we could bring in 5 recruits, or 4 with Bragg. I'd like to see the above with Zimmerman below as our 4 schollies. I don't know if we get both Brown and Ingram. I think Newman is highly possible and Bragg increased KU's chances with Ingram's recruiting. Correct me if I'm wrong, but there's no other recruit on the board past Bragg or really Zimmerman. The rest are likely going elswhere.

I'd like to get Zimmerman, but my gut tells me he's either UK, Zona, or UCLA bound. I haven't heard much about him. I think KU is off his radar. The funny fact about his recruiting is that he would fill an immediate spot. He just needs to look at Withey and Embiid. He would play and fit Self's high/lo offense.

Here's my 'crystal ball' prediction for KU's chances:
Newman- very likely, 50-50 between KU and UK
Ingram- likely
Brown- somewhat likely
Zimmerman- unlikely

It's early and breaks the anticipation between games. They may all stay and we get Bragg and one more, Newman or Ingram?

Don't forget the end of year transfers or Self may have another Svi or Black up his sleeve.

Wiggins and James, 01/31/2015 β€’ Feb 02, 2015 05:15 AM

I think it's huckin fliarious that Wiggins is putting up the numbers, the defense, and the skills as a TEENAGER. What was Love doing his first year in the league? Not this at all. James was great, but how great was he his first year in the league? Of course James skipped college too.

My point: I'm going to say that Wiggins is better than Love at this point than when Love was a rookie. I'd say that he's as good as James at this point as a rookie, if not better. I know the argument is moot, we all agree, but it's funny they are forgetting Wiggins' age and comparing him to James and Love. This is pretty amazing. He's being compared to two very long time veterans in the league.

I have a real wild plan. Let's get back on defense and NOT let them run us out of our own house. They killed us in transition. They ran us into the ground in Ames.

My plan...GET BACK ON DEFENSE and move the feet.

Little Help ! β€’ Feb 01, 2015 05:53 AM

I think splitting mins would be fine between Greene and Selden. All i know is Selden hit a few 3s in this game. But he also clanked a few too. Greene is our dead eye sniper and seems to gain confidence with each game. He does me proud when he steps up and nails those 3s.

I say, let it fly BG. You don't limit a hot shooter and Self knows it too or you'll stifle him.

Sleeping Giant?? β€’ Feb 01, 2015 05:39 AM

Ok beat KSU at home...check

Now bring on ISU...it's payback and the guys need to blow them out of the Phog simply to make a statement. They're pretty dominate at home, but seem to struggle on the road. This does not bode well for them come March. By the same token, a win, on the road, in the Phog, and a sweep against KU would pretty much punch their ticket this year. Hoiberg will be elevated to god-like status. He'll go from Mayor to the god of D1 coaching.

Let's hope Self and the ISU game film have a renewed love affair and a big win is their love child. I am personally sick of ISU and the hype. I hope your right about Selden too, hope he stays awake. RCJHKU and beat ISU

Sleeping Giant?? β€’ Feb 01, 2015 05:31 AM

@wrwlumpy There's no excuse, but we don't know what Foster was mouthing either and to whom he may have been mouthing. The refs only see what they want. I think Graham got enough that late in the game and decided to let it out. I think Foster is a balling punk on the court. I think he's obviously talented, but a cocky punk.

Cliff Alexander Height Alert? β€’ Jan 31, 2015 04:42 AM

This is the most bizarre picture I've seen in college bball. They don't look quite right. They seem to be imposed on a black and white...where's the color version?

Also, I do believe Mason has on a pair of Army ABUs. He did after all attend a military academy? Look very closely and you can see the pattern. It looks cool all the same.

What's up with Greene on the end? It's just down right strange.

It looks better upon each review. The heights look about right...Perry may have been asked to tip toe just a bit over the front row. They look fairly symmetrical. I guess it's not too strange.

Thanks for posting.

The Selden Factor β€’ Jan 22, 2015 04:32 AM

@icthawkfan316 The proverbial Bill Self dog house? You're joking, right? Let's see how many I can remember have been in and out of the Bill Self dog house. 1)Sherron Collins was in and out, mostly out, but Self made sure he was aware of the dog house, 2) Tyshawn Taylor was in it a good portion of the time, 3) Xavier was in the dog house from time to time, 4) The most notorious was EJ. I think Marcus Morris visited it from time to time. I also believe Selby may have entered it a time or two during his short, meaningless experience at KU. Traylor has been in and out for different reasons. Right now, I'd say Landen Lucas is locked up in Self's dog house. I really hope Lucas comes up big soon.

I didn't mean to imply this "dog house" translated into earned pt. I just think Self allows players to choose or decide what they want to do from game to game. IF they decide to play and earn the pt, they get pt. Self's dog house is simply his way of showing them that he's the coach and it's his way or the highway. I'm not taking anything from the 'guy' whose been doing 'it' from the beginning. But if Greene can continue to develop, he's going to be special. I love his length, shot, and his talent. He's good and he knows it too. His ego needs checked, but I love a KU player to get a bit cocky and back it on the court. I think he's got a good attitude and wants to play Bill Self ball and do what is best for the team. Remember, they're all young and eager. They all make mistakes.

I think BG may be clutch. The guy thrives on being in a position to make shots. He talked trash to OU? I love it. It doesn't hurt to get into the head of your opponent. It didn't work all that well. But if that pushes his competitive trigger and he does it tastefully, let's see what he can do. I would rather have him in the game than Graham. Graham is good, but Greene is a sophomore. I'll take his experience over Graham.

The Remaining Big 12 Schedule And Strategy β€’ Jan 21, 2015 04:37 AM

@KUSTEVE Good point and the best take away from that game? We lost by 5 playing "our worst game of the year' against a very good ISU team, in an extremely hostile environment. I have hope for this team.

This KU team can beat any team in the B12. If the KU team that played ISU shows up again on the road, they're toast. I actually believe that ISU game prepared them for these future road games.

The other B12 teams smell blood. The media is feeding it too. OU comes into the Phog and almost beats KU at home is a little bit to ponder. KU losing a 19 pt half lead and allow a team to take the lead, in the Phog, is unsettling. This team has to play every game like Oubre played against OU. Greene is showing up and he's got to combine with Oubre's defense to make an impact. Mason needs to remain consistent. We've yet to see Alex have a real breakout game...when? Ellis has got to show up every game and play aggressive like he did in the first half of the OU game. He played like a true McDs AA and leader on the court. He took the team and put them on his back for a moment.

They need to push the throttle down and not let up until the final buzzer.

The Selden Factor β€’ Jan 21, 2015 04:21 AM

@icthawkfan316 I think Greene has earned it. He like Oubre, has been in the Self dog house. He's coming out. Many like Mason and Graham in at the same time. Many also believe that combo could be crucial in a deep run. I think with the UTs, we'll need length. Self has no choice but to match UTs length. He's done it before and wins. I'd like to see Greene match up to UT's length.

The Selden Factor β€’ Jan 21, 2015 04:07 AM

@HighEliteMajor I couldn't agree more. I kept faith in Greene and knew that it was a matter of Self giving him earned pt. Greene is pure as the driven snow. If Greene and Oubre get together, it's going to be interesting.

Just something I noticed β€’ Jan 21, 2015 03:30 AM

KU players, especially the guards MUST learn to create contact. They can't try to look pretty and avoid contact by trying to jump away from defenders, expecting to make shots and/or go to the stripe.
Mason does it more than any guard on the team. But he has his moments where he's trying to avoid contact. He's got to jump right into the defenders. They are jumping out of their shoes to block Mason. They will foul him every time. I see it every single game. Last night it was Graham. Oubre gets it. He's learned to drive and create contact. They can't drive right into the center of the defenders either. They have to get an angle and make the defenders move or lean.

They've got to learn that teams, especially ISU (ala, Niang) will set up a charge every single time. They've got to learn how to go around Niang. They need to crossover and leave him standing like a fool. Niang sets up for a charge and KU like a moth to a flame charges right into the big lug. He gets that charge called almost 100% of the time.

Don't get me started on this airborne passing habit. They are getting caught in the air during a pass. The guilty ones are Mason, Selden, and Graham. They've got to stop that crap.

Enough of ISU for now...RCJH beat UT.

KU 2014 summer camp videos β€’ Jul 14, 2014 08:11 PM

@Crimsonorblue22 LOL...don't take my word for it. I even think with some time, Big Cliff will even protect the rim. But his motor is so much like TRob's. I see Alex going through some of the same learning as TRob. I think Alex may be a 3 yr project, like TRob.

PS. I hope you get that explanation too. I'm as curious too.

KU 2014 summer camp videos β€’ Jul 14, 2014 08:05 PM

@Crimsonorblue22 It will be fine. I'm really confident in our 5s. We're so spoiled with the Aldrich's, Withey's, and the Embiids. But, we've got some rim presence with Lucas and likely Hunter.

KU 2014 summer camp videos β€’ Jul 14, 2014 08:01 PM

@JayHawkFanToo I would contend that Tyrel is 'better' than CF. I think they are both above average shooters. In fact, I'd give Tyrel the edge at this point. However, we enjoyed Tyrel for 3 yrs? He didn't even sniff the court his freshman year. Not sure if he sniffed the court much his soph season. I really didn't see much of him until his junior and senior years.

My point between the two is a solemn fact of D1 bball. If Tyrel is taller, better, and down right more athletic than CF, and he's simply relegated to the Euro-league; what's that say for CF? Tyrel is 6-3, 6-4 in shoes? CF is a good 5'11 or maybe 6-0 in shoes? Tyrel is far more athletic than CF and was CLUTCH in some big games. I'd take Tyrel any day of the week. But to CF's defense, I'll give him the 'benefit of the doubt.'

I'm really beginning to interpret some things here from HCBS about CF. I think like many of us, he's perhaps forcing a square peg, round hole scenario with CF. We all want CF to perform at D1 close to the peformance of his high school games. I just don't see it happening. Self will have to create some special plays for CF. The Stanford game was CF's defining moment, but just don't think it will be duplicated much in coming games. If you noticed CF needed some really strong and aggressive screens to create his shots. He'll have to get more consistent with open shots, or knock them down. I was impressed with his shooting, but if you noticed, he didn't have much of a defensive challenge. I'd like to see someone get in his jockstrap and lock him down. I want to see what CF can do if a taller 6-3 or 6-4, quick defender can give his shot a challenge.

Has anyone seen the movie, Trouble with the Curve? Remember the great homerun hitter? Remember what happened when he was confronted with the curve? Remember what he did even when he was told the curve was coming? I kinda see CF's shot like that hitter's. I just wonder what he can do when he's really challenged, with a longer, quick, athletic defender. You might think most players would struggle. Maybe, but I think CF will struggle even more under the above circumstances.

KU 2014 summer camp videos β€’ Jul 14, 2014 01:58 PM

I'm very late on this thread, but after reading through some of the comments, was able to muster some thoughts. It was difficult to really observe in these videos who's who or who did what. But I had a few general comments that are either slightly different or along the same thought processes as others.

I'm still concerned at the pg. I think Mason is your starting pg based on these vids because he will be full throttle come game time, but too early.

CF is the same. I just don't see any zip or crispness to his feet and this alarms me. He's going to be what many of us have pretty much agreed upon and that is strictly an assassin when needed. His foot work is still slow and just don't see him doing much on D. He got lost many times which could be good and bad. I agreed last year and I'll agree again, CF is looking even more like a transfer. I really hate to say that too. I hope to be wrong.

I couldn't see Graham at all this vid. I couldn't make out many of the alum either.

I think all the sophs looked comfortable, but as one pointed out, a casual game of pick up in front of a camp crowd is different than the big stage. Green is the total package and always has been in my book. I could see him playing some pg at times if he catches the pace. Oubre looked like a typical frosh at times.

I really wish Svee was here. I just don't see him getting many minutes under his current circumstances and if Self is smart, he'll be real strategic with that kid. Something tells me he's going to be special over the next 2-3 years at KU. I've read too he's in no hurry to even look at the NBA. So Self may have a rough diamond waiting to be polished and displayed.

I think Cliff has a high ceiling, but again, if Self can temper and strategically develop him, he's going to be huge at KU.

Now the bigs...Ellis is the highlight of this team. His camp directors are glowing about his play. I think Ellis' development is phenomenal and a testament to young student-athletes that if they stay, they can actually get better, but they have to work in the classroom too. This is why Ellis didn't go to UK.

Lucas is and has always been my big sleeper. I'm anxious to see if he can develop into that "protector" we need. I'm a bit bigger on him than Hunter. I thought Hunter looked fluid and moves well for a big. He showed some moves in the lane too. I would like to see him showcase his rim protection, which is what he's known for coming from Ark. My money is on Lucas because of experience and better rim presence than Hunter.

Selden will be fine. But if I had to provide an 'early' starting lineup that will obviously change over time, it would be as follows:

Mason

Selden

Green - It will depend on Oubre's development.

Ellis

Lucas

Overall, they looked good and have a lot of promise. I also loved Buddy Hield's comments of OU winning the B12 in basketball. I think he was referring to the gridiron, perhaps? I hope KU takes this comment seriously.

New teammate for Wiggy β€’ Jul 13, 2014 04:40 AM

Cavs are not trading Wigs. He is the future franchise player. LBJ is 30? He's not going to last too much longer. You'd be silly to act hastily by trading Wigs just to get Love. You can afford to go without Love for another season or two. Love will gain free-agency. LBJ will re-establish himself as the leader of a leaderless team. Wigs will emerge with LBJ as the up and coming leader of this team. Kyrie Irving will lead this team as do many other pgs in the NBA. There's is another rumor that Ray Allen may follow LBJ to the Cavs. There again, Allen is nearing a retirement point. I doubt that would do much for the Cavs. Regardless who they get, it will take time for them to become a team.

Irving

Wigs

LBJ

and eventually Love will gain free-agency to join them in a year or two. He will be the much needed threat they will need.

Those of you that are advocating a Wigs for Love trade, are silly. If you trade Wigs for Love, it will work for a time. But if LBJ can hold out if and when Love arrives, the Cavs will be huge favs to win some World Championships. I don't think Kyrie Irving figures into your "big three." I think your big three will likely become Wigs, LBJ, and possibly Love. Irving will be much like Rajon Rondo. He will be a big key, but don't think he's bigger than Wigs, LBJ or Love.

Lastly, the hype behind LBJ's comments during the announcement is hillarious. Many are saying that he didn't mention Wigs and therefore, Wigs is being traded. I love the drama that ESPN creates. He never mentioned Kevin Love either. The announcement was about LBJ returing home and what he wants to do upon his return. Even he's not sure what will happen, but my guess is he'll welcome Wiggins to help his home team and likely help develop him to become the future for a team LBJ loves. LBJ knows his time is drawing near and that he has a few more championships available, he'll want the most talented cast around him to achieve those championships. Who better then the #1 draft pick and the most freakish athletic player in the draft? LBJ knows talent and he'll likely get the team going with what they have, then hopefully see a Love or similar player come to the Cavs to support his goals of more championships.

3 min 29 sec of Alexander-iciousness β€’ Jul 10, 2014 06:33 PM

@nuleafjhawk I thought he did a fair job keeping most of those balls in play. It's little things like that he could learn from Withey or Embiid. Withey was the master at keeping the ball in play after a blocked shot. He was the reason KU got so many chances on the offensive end. It was the volleyball IQ that created Withey's ability to change a game of baskeball. Embiid's feet and soccer were his greatest assets.

@HighEliteMajor Yea...another injured big, crap. That's all we need starting the season.

3 min 29 sec of Alexander-iciousness β€’ Jul 10, 2014 03:54 PM

I hope we can all contain our expectations for Alex. He is a big player that dominates. But let's remember, he's played against high school average to below average talent comparatively. I'm not disqualifying his abilities. He played in the McDs AA and has played against Okafor, which is a great indicator of his abilities. I just don't want people to get inundated with high expectations and be disappointed. If he stays two years, Alex will be a huge force.

I compare him to TRob in terms of physicality. He's more polished than TRob at this point. He has the potential to dominate, but has work to do on both ends at the D1 level. He will be playing against guys older, more disciplined, and as talented. I can't wait to see him against UK's bigs. I think Alex is at least a two year project at KU. He would benefit from a strong junior year, if at all possible. But, we all know how that goes. In fact, I think he compares really well to Julius Randle.

Baseless Basketball Rumors β€’ Jun 26, 2014 12:51 PM

I thought KU offered the Selfie major and Tharpe graduated early for his year long project last year. In fact, his Selfie was the model for the entire program or drama dept.

Bill Self is especially interested in the Jeff Graves, Melo, or early Sherron Collins rows. I also heard that Iverson's rows were also in the mix for consideration. The rumor has it they will be called the Selfish-corn-rows and will debut in Stillwater, OK in a marathon of cowpokes lining up to honor their native son in hopes of swaying him back to OK.

The real rumor is that Cindy is positioning herself to takeover for Bonnie and they will win a NC. Tyler Self will be her assistant and the two will make mother/son D1 girls basketball history to win a NC.

Connor Frankamp is learning what a SS card actually is and if corn rows will give him extra powers on the court, ala, early Sherron Collins. The rumor is that CF will have something that resembles hair by first day of class.

Norm Roberts will jack the Florida vacancy after Donovan makes a sudden jump to the NBA. At this time, Roberts will unveil his secret weapon which is rumored to be the Cameroonian Mafia. Mr Embiid will be the god-father of the program at which time Norm Roberts will surpass all the great coaches to be the most improved D1 coach to ever reach the HOF.

Great stuff jaybate :)

Seven Footer visits KU β€’ Jun 25, 2014 05:07 PM

@icthawkfan316 It's really hard to characterize Ellis' play, which may be a good thing. He's a little mysterious. Opposing coaches may not quite know how to scout him at times, much like an enigma. Funny, the scouting reports are based more on Self's game history than a player's play.

On the other hand, to your point, this enigamtic play, may cause NBA scouts to pause on him. This may cost him in the draft. He's a special player and he is a true definition of student-athlete. I want him to succeed so much because he's a great kid, from Wichita, and chose KU. He's smart and should figure out what to do in the coming days. Unfortuantely, to your point, Self's system is quite defining. We've all established Self's bigs as true bigs that he will develop into what he needs. I doubt too that Self will let Ellis play much 3 if at all. I do recall McMorris playing some 3 at times. Their style of play are extremely similar. I just wish Ellis was as strong and aggressive as McMorris. I'd give Perry a knod at the 3 before Morris, because overall Perry is more talented. Also, Ellis comes from Wichita, and I know that league is really open ended when it comes to bigs. They don't really define their bigs. Ellis was allowed to play freely and if you watch tape, he played outside the 4 box often. Lastly, he plays pickup games and he is used to going 1x1 with smaller players. Perry was the biggest man in the city league. His AAU was the only other opp he had to play bigger players.

So I say this in hopes that Self will turn Ellis loose in games to see what he can do at times, at least take calculated risks. Self does not encourage them to step outside to take the 3 and they joke, but for Ellis to pull his man out could pay dividends. Especially with Alex inside to cleanup.

@icthawkfan316 Wow, you just compared a group of current players to the 2008 NC team. I don't know if Self planned what he did with the players above, but he has actually solved any OAD problem. Traylor, Lucas, and Mickelson are solid. I'm not sure what they'll do over the next few years, but they have a great chance. You would be silly to underestimate what they bring to this team. If they keep their head and ego in check, which they seem to have, they will prove to be major contributors for Self down the stretch.

I've become a bit concerned about Ellis. Is it me? Or is he digressing just a bit? My perception of Ellis is that he isn't where he should be at this point. Maybe it's my silly expectations. He's had some great games, is talented, and is capable, but misses that certain something I like to call aggression. We've touched on it before, but it was understandable as a frosh and spooh.

WIll this be Perry's year to break out in "style"? He's got to have a monster year where he dominates and becomes the player that we believe him to be or has he simply reached his ceiling at this level?

What say you all? Perry fashionably done or still walking the runway with his duds? Maybe he's not a sprinter...maybe he's an endurance player or like a fine wine who ages with time?

@HighEliteMajor haha good one HEM...No way in hot hell will Self ever pull a footer out on the perimeter. He may be quick, agile, and shoot lights out. But, Self will force him into the post and get him on a weight program, turning him into an instant light weight lane machine. He's too old school and too much Eddie Sutton drilled into him.

Self can't stand to have a super athletic footer on the perimeter. He would've turned KD (if attended KU) and posted him. It's a Self-ish rule of thumb, if you're over 6-8 or bigger, and have a good butt, you're posting. It's a given. :)

Report: Embiid Broken Foot? β€’ Jun 23, 2014 04:40 PM

I've read the surgeon's report on Embiid. I've evaluated Embiid's attitude with this surgery and there's no reason why Embiid can't go #1 and no lower than #3. The idea he goes no lower than Orlando is about right. Tellum is pushing for Embiid toward Orlando as a high pick and Boston as a solid safety net. I think Embiid will likely be much like Pierce only under different circumstances.

Pierce's story proves GMs and critics wrong because GMs were burning Williams' phone off the hook to learn of any injury to Pierce, only to learn there were no injuries. Pitino got the pick of a lifetime that just kept giving and giving to the Celtics. Pierce was clearly a top 3 pick and arguably #1 pick in his draft, but what do the "experts" know.

I see Embiid with Philly, Orlando, or Boston at this point. Tellum is playing this situation really well. The surgeon's report is huge and should help GMs make a decision with Embiid. It's a huge game of draft poker. Tellum is experienced and knows how to play the game. He will work wonders for Embiid and save his career. I see some teams pissing their pants when Embiid lands and recovers from this situation. Many are overreacting. Heck even Sasha Kaun says he's still playing with the same stress fracture. It's not the injury that is the problem at this point, it's simple perceptions and "risks." It's a risk worth taking on a highly talented player.

Bill Self Says No To Point Guards? β€’ Jun 13, 2014 01:32 AM

Ok Here we go again discussing what most of us believe about Selfs pg situation. I've said it's recruiting failure that is the problem. Self has a bad pg rep.
We'll never get the "08 guard combos. I'm not even getting into Chalmers' pg woes with Miami. Coincidence or an indication of Self not making Chalmers the PG.
Lastly, we all know that a successful team has a true pg. Do I have to review the last few teams with pgs and their success in the tourney?

I read the thread on vaca and thought it interesting
that we are discussing this during Chalmers' pg woes with Miami.

Blue Blood Arms Race To The Top β€’ Jun 02, 2014 01:47 AM

Born, reared, and educated Jayhawks would include John Riggins? He was a stud. How about Gayle Sayers? The Kansas Comet was a total stud. I can't believe you missed those guys. But, maybe I missed the point of your discussion. Barry Sanders fell short. I'll always hold him leaving for OSU. Funny how he went to OSU because at the time many schools passed on Sanders. Then he had individual success in the NFL. He never thrived with a team to a Superbowl.
