What was the technical foul for?
@approxinfinity Our garden smells like coyote urine. That's what my wife sprays to keep the deer away. Your odors sound much nicer!
@Crimsonorblue22 Our semester ends a month before KU's, so I just had a few lectures to give. Sure have become a fan of Zoom! My research program is what's in jeopardy. I have several grad students who had planned to spend the summer in the Arctic.
@Crimsonorblue22 Only 7 deaths in Manitoba so far. People here are behaving, for the most part.
Our university announced classes will be taught online next fall. No travel currently allowed north of 53 degrees latitude, protecting remote northern communities. I may not get up to the tundra this year.

My dad had prostate cancer at about the same age. He turns 85 this week, still going strong. Was also a teacher. Never ran a half marathon, though.

@approxinfinity And yet bad ideas can become more common also. Good/bad, of course, is a value judgement. I'm really not sure what currency is used to evaluate the genetic fitness of ideas.
Richard Dawkins introduced the idea of memes in his 1976 book The Selfish Gene, to illustrate how ideas can spread similar to genetic variants - way before the term was appropriated by the internet. Internet memes might be a great illustration of how we can't rely on natural selection to solve our problems! I was never a big fan of grumpy cat. But I remember being fascinated by the idea of memes back in my grad school days, and am a bit chagrined that my own grad students in evolutionary ecology have no idea what the source of that term is.
@bskeet Natural selection won't work on this one because the people at greatest risk are post-reproductive. This outbreak won't change gene frequencies. Stupid behavior, the people who transmit the virus, won't be selected against.

@DanR Oh sure, they won't keep it up. I'm looking forward to Dok laying another 18 on them in second half, when their shots stop falling and their offense fails. That's why I can enjoy their first half so much. Pretty amazing. And won't last. We're good.
Bane and Dennis are combined 9-11 from three. Have we ever had 2 guys hit 82% from 3 in a half? Svi and Devonte? That's percentage plus volume. Two guys simultaneously. Pretty remarkable.

I've enjoyed watching Jayhawk Gameday Live on ESPN+ before and after every game, regardless of where the game itself is aired.
@approxinfinity Both ESPN and KUsports.com reported on the light-hearted exchange between Diarra and Dotson near center court near the end of the game.
ESPN: "That's my guy," Dotson said. "He was just cracking jokes."
KUsports: “That’s my boy,” Dotson said of Diarra. “We talk pretty often. We worked some camps in the summer. And he was just cracking jokes. He was killing me. He’s funny."
I watched Dotson's interview, and KUsports' wording was more accurate. I found it odd that ESPN edited boy to guy. Is that a political correctness thing? Am I just out of touch to question a decision not to report what he actually said?
I enjoyed that series of articles. Tait had the hardest case to make, although Garrett certainly deserves to be in the discussion. Dok has been on a tear lately, but Dotson has been most consistently excellent. I really think we'll have to see how the postseason plays out.
