@DanR If the 4-0 is a reference to National Championships that should be corrected to 4-2 as I pointed out above!
A lot of it comes from plain ole east coasters thinking it's all about them. Sometimes the heat wave that hits there starts in the midwest. Or the blizzard, or the cold snap. Watch the network news, no mention of it until it hits in the east, then you'll see the screaming headline "Millions affected by Eastern Heatwave". Even Les Nessman from WKRP did it famously when he read the news headline "Monster Lizzard Ravages East Coast". Johnny Fever walks in and says "uh Les, that's blizzard"
@tundrahok It really was a strange comment. I couldn't really figure out the context beyond that sound clip. I deal with the same thing with Chicago. I read lots of comments about hell hole, things like that, yet millenials are flocking to the city and it's actually growing. It's got some major problems of course, but ignorance abounds.
Current NY football teams ranked: 0 Current Kansas football teams ranked 1 Current Kansas football teams should be ranked 1.
All four titles from state of Kansas won only by THE University of Kansas.
State of NY NCAA tournament titles: 2 Syracacuse :( and CCNY way way back. Kansas 4
I'm outraged and I'm not even a Kansan!

I suggest Rock Chalk Jayhawk KU is a pretty well known brand.
Lets flood this twitter page with our two cents worth.
@KirkIsMyHinrich What did Pat write now?
Didn't like the conservative play calling on our last drive but Leipold is nearly etched his name on the Mt. Rushmore of KU football coaches already.
Bullcrap call.
Uncalled hold on that TD pass. Oh well, another chance to see Jalon Daniels add to his Heisman credentials
@nwhawkfan Seemed uncatchable too
Just give him the Heisman now.
Horrible defense
Targeting by Duke. Defender clearly lowered his helmet into our guy at the sideline.
It's never targeting when we do it to puke
It seems like all of our best players have a single digit number.
Is this really happening?
Stupid, dumb, assinine, checks thesaurus, preposterous
Jalon Daniels is 11-12 for 200 yards. Is that good?
@rockchalkjayhawk Anyways lets blow the doors off of Duke in the 2nd half!!
@rockchalkjayhawk Really? Didn't realize that. Guess I need to pay attention a little better!
@RockChalkinTexas I haven't paid enough attention to see if this event is being impacted by the LIV. Koepka is 29 world rank and DJ is 23. I wish them nothing but a continued slide down into irrelevance in the golf world.
@RockChalkinTexas That international team is awful. They're missing so many big names it really taints what we're doing to them. I follow golf fairly closely and couldn't tell you who half of those guys are. Jon Rahm? No. Rory? No. Cameron Smith? No? Matthew Fitzpatrick? No. Victor Hovland? No. That's the 5 top ranked International players in the world and none are playing. Meanwhile only one of our guys in the top 10 isn't playing.
What a catch!!!!
@Jethro Our offense has got that new car smell. The defense has that last 15 years of KU football smell.
Jared Casey 6 feet tall 260 pounds. Imagine tackling that.
It seems like our offense is going to have to pick up the defense today.
@DanR Not the first time I've seen an uncalled hold. Also saw one of our guys have to sit out because his helmet came off, except it was torn off by the Duke defender. No call.
I haven't been able to watch, but will tomorrow. Since the name Duke will be on the helmet I'm pumped. First time I've checked game time for a KU football game since the Mangino years.
I watched the Houston game on youtube. I was unprepared for how dynamic a playmaker Daniels is. (too prove how tough it is to get into KU football I had to look his name up to write Daniels there, it's not yet a name I know automatically.) I was simply amazed.
Not sure how much of a comparison this is, but my first year on campus was 85. The team that year started well and had some talent. Willie Pless was on his way to a league tackle record. Mike Norseth was throwing for big yards. They were ranked and went to Auburn and lost narrowly. But the center (I can't remember his name) got hurt and the season caved in drastically. @mayjay pointed out the impact of an injury during his years on campus even longer ago than when I was there!
I have no clue how deep our roster is. The usual way of thinking is there's not a great depth chart. But maybe Lance is changing that?
Anyways, great post, I feel a little guilty for jumping on the bandwagon, even toying with doing a little road trip with my KU roomie to see the team if it stays interesting. Thanks for pumping us up. Lets keep this thing going!
@nwhawkfan LOL, that post highlights the conflicts of fandom! It's hard to not like Judge and Pujols. Just amazing athletes, of course Judges home run numbers might be a bit gaudy if he played in Detroit or other pitchers parks.
@BeddieKU23 I watched most of that 2nd half and I'm forgetting what the officiating problem was.
LJW today tried its best today to reassure us that Lance didn't come to Lawrence to quit but would like to build a legacy there.
@Texas-Hawk-10 I don't know anything about sports gambling but why does KU-8 make us the favorite?
@stoptheflop Stubhub tickets are 24 right now.
@Kcmatt7 said in Drop the Cougs:
The 2-0 Hawks are 8.5 dawgs at Houston this weekend.
This was always one of the games on the schedule that was winnable, but I thought unlikely to be a win at the beginning of the season. A 12-2 Houston team from a year ago returning their starting QB who threw for 30 TDs was always going to be a challenge.
But dare I say this game looks more winnable now than before? They struggled to score against a TTU team that nobody expects to be very good. While Tune has still be okay so far, they haven't ran the ball well enough to help him. And their defense has allowed a ton of yards.
I honestly think that as long as we get a similar performance from Daniels and Co. this week that this game is a win. We may honestly have one of the best OL in the country. And so I expect the offense to keep the wheels turning with some level of consistency. If the defense can get early stops, I really think we can start this season 3-0 coming into a 3-game home stand.
Prediction: KU 42 - HOU 31
Nice prediction!! I've had some super busy weekends and once again wasn't able to watch unfortunately. But I hope to catch some games later which probably means then they'll start losing games again!!
@drgnslayr Billy Packer called that game. Jim Nance responded with some shock and if memory serves correctly UNC did make a game of it. After going up by 19 UNC went on a 17-2 run but a huge offensive rebound by Rush led to a building lead of around 7-10 points the rest of the way until we blasted them at the end.
@nwhawkfan I obviously have given up allegiances to the pinstripes, but I was a boy growing up outside of NYC and became a Mets and Yankees fan. Great memories of that series, but the all time great team 76 Reds absolutely smoked the Yankees in the Series. Somehow that Reds team went from 102 wins to 88 the next season and didn't even have the chance for the 3-peat.
LOL, I did a little digging into the history of that era and the Royals in 1981 made the playoffs with a losing record. They split the season into two halves because of the strike and you had to win the first half and or the 2nd half to make an 8 team tournament. The Royals were really bad in the 1st half and then won their division in the 2nd half but made the playoffs with a 50-53 record. Meanwhile the Reds played great in both halves and had the best record in baseball but didn't make the playoffs because they didn't win their division in either half. Amazing!
@KirkIsMyHinrich It's pretty disgusting to see A-Rod's name up there along with other juicers including all of the current and past New York Yankee players!
Lance Leipold won multiple national championships at a D3 school in Wisconsin. Bo Ryan won multiple national championships at a different D3 school in Wisconsin and nearly won a national championship. A multiple champion at D3 knows how to win and while it's no guarantee for winning a D1 championship, I believe that we have a top notch coach in Lance but others will recognize it as well.
@FarmerJayhawk Never intended for this post to turn into a bar review page!! As a teetotaler growing up (I'm still afraid my parents will see me having a glass of wine!) I didn't do the bars at all, shocking I know, but it's all kind of foreign to me. Congrats on the bullseye and for the prize!
My only experience with KU party life was mostly negative as delivering pizzas to drunken fraternities at 1AM was not always very pleasant, it was actually quite repulsive to me and still tell stories to my friends about the things I saw. Therapy not needed for me and these flashbacks, but it was a real eye opener!
I loved gamedays. We'd arrive hours before to get seats behind the goal on the north end of the court. Those seats were really close and no barriers separated us from the action as it appears it is now. Larry Brown was watching shoot around from a folding chair down by us and I happened to have my camera that day and went and took his picture. Good memories. Go home and local public TV would play a replay of the game we just witnessed! Of course we watched it. Saturdays were also game after game of pickup ball at Robinson gym and watch the Jayhawks either at home or on TV. It's a wonder we learned anything!
I'm hearing rumors
@wissox said in Week 2 games:
When I moved to Lousiana after Katrina our football coach at Desire St. Academy was named Mickey Joseph. He's risen through the ranks and was named interim head coach at Nebraska. I'll be a Nebraska fan now. Some of you might remember when he was Nebraska's starting quarterback. His brother has been an NFL head coach, Vance Joseph.
I just edited this.

@mayjay Oh it's really OK. After all I was a Jayhawk before I became a Badger. And the Sox are a game and a half out of first place and winning a whole bunch of games since TLR went on the 'DL'.
The crazy thing about college football is about 5-6 teams only have a chance every year to play in the playoff and every other team is on the outside looking in. The NCAA has inadvertently set up a haves and haves not in their sport as each season a jumble of AL, GA, OU, OSU, Clemson have a reasonable shot at the playoff. An outlier like Cincy last year exists only to go to the final four and get destroyed. In the BIG OSU recruits more 5 star guys in one year than the rest of the league combined. So we have no hope and no one else does either unless you're 0ne of those teams. A loss to Washington St just hurts a little.
KU is 1-0 during the reign of King Charles.
In the car in OT and the radio feed I had on my phone goes out. It was the play right after the review on whether the QB fumbled or incomplete or was down. Disappointed that I heard the ref say incomplete, 3rd down, and then I hear nothing. Next words I hear are Pick 6 KU wins! I let out a whoop, pulled in the driveway a few minutes later to a house full of my kids who had stopped in to visit. Great evening.
In the car listening go Jayhawks
If someone could help me by putting a link to radio scene so I could listen in the car Iād appreciate it
