Sounds like a thriller
Driving someone tell me the score please
@mayjay Sorry to foment confusion! I was asked whom do I think wins the Central so the we kicked in.
@Kcmatt7 My favorite in town was on Mass. It was a chain, I want to say Godfathers, but not positive that's the one. As a Chicagoan however, none of it tasted very good by comparison.
@DanR There was a small home on the east side of town that we delivered to every day, a mom and her becoming obese pre-teen son. I was always sad to go there.
One drunk frat brat passed out while writing his check for a pizza. I grabbed the checkbook, finished writing the check and left. I was too principled to give myself a generous tip, but I should have!
@AsadZ Minnesota and Cleveland still have 8 games together. We have 4 against those teams combined I believe. While they're beating up on each other this weekend, we have four at AL worst Oakland, then lousy Colorado comes to town. We've got two series with Detroit still. The schedule makers have favored us with a soft finish. Tim Anderson comes back soon, we'll be the healthiest we've been all year when he returns.
Tony LaRussa isn't managing right now, but if he returns well, I'm not wild with the thought of us in the playoffs, but if he doesn't I like our chances better.
Thanks Royals! 2 in the bottom of the 9th off of Clevelands great reliever. We pull within two of Cleveland.
@Gorilla72 Yes, I can still picture where it is. Kind of a Krispy Kreme before there was Krispy Kreme. What about Pizza Shuttle? Is that still there? I delivered pizzas for them one year. Actually a pretty fun job and the car I beat up wasn't even mine, it was my dads!
Best arena atmosphere I'm reading now.

Best collection of coaches ever in mid 80's when Brown, Calipari, Self, and Popovich took turns coaching (but not all at the same time)
Best chant
Best historically tied mascot
Best rivalry (it's a shame it's nonexistent now)
Best worst football team
Best late night donut shop (is that place still open?)
Best fall weather for college football
Best 3 years of my life.
@AsadZ Well he gets the struggling Sox tonight as my underachieving team tries to hang in there. We need a new manager in the worst kind of way.
@jayballer67 I like Aaron Judge, and even most of the Yankees for that matter. DJ is a friends cousin actually so I cheer for him. Nestor's a great rags to riches story as well. Stanton rubs me wrong, reminds me a bit of Dave Kingman who liked to hit tape measure shot homers but missed the ball a lot. It'd be cool to see Aaron make to 60 this year.
@FarmerJayhawk My daughter was in Wrigley last night and saw him homer.
Yankees 11-22 since July 9, 3rd worst in baseball in that time.
@nwhawkfan AL Central could be a 3 way tie after tonight. Guardians losing again to Detroit. Sox losing, but just by 1 after 4.
Be nice if the Royals could beat the Twins right now!
@nwhawkfan I think that was Bill Carmody? He later went to Northwestern.
@Crimsonorblue22 White Sox are toast. Losing 3 of 4 without Tim Anderson playing proves it.
@rockchalkjayhawk For sure. I coached a kid, just up from Honduras (probably undocumented) who could knock a coke can off the top of my head with a soccer ball from 40 yards away and not hurt me! He also was the biggest flopper we've ever had! Total language barrier between us, and we'd be yelling at him to get up and, well, it was just a funny scene! He made freshman all state and it was only after the season was over that we learned he was 19 years old!
This aint generic
@Crimsonorblue22 Basically.
@mayjay I saw him play in Baton Rouge a few times!
@Crimsonorblue22 Yes definitely vaxxed, I didn't raise no dopes! The pregnant one is in Minnesota and she had it kind of bad. The other was mildly sick. Thanks!
Yankees 4 games below .500 since the beginning of July.
Both adult daughters recovered this week. But the younger is pregnant and the doctor wants to induce her because there's apparently a risk of early labor because of it. Due Date is just before Christmas, but inducing 12/11.
This discussion is not about birth control. Abortion is not birth control. The science is clear, it's a human life.
The Rabbi's twitter uses an inaccurate translation calling it a miscarriage. Many other translations only state that "if there is no injury" from the fight that causes her to give birth there is no penalty, but the next verse is very clear, "if there is injury...". Many scriptures state Good forming human life in the womb. I really think you'd have a hard time arguing with people from the viewpoint of scripture that abortion is ok.
I know as you say that life isn't always ideal. I wish at least this was a discussion about the difficult cases, rape/incest or medical difficulty, but the facts bear this out pretty clearly that the large majority of abortions are only about the convenience of the parents. It's this that caused Mother Teresa to state "And if we accept that a mother can kill her own child how can we tell other people not to kill one another?
@BShark You say "please do not say "just don't have sex"". You know how easy it is to retort if you were in control of your body you wouldn't be pregnant? Basic human rights is not a factual statement at all. Not sure where you get that from. Because it denies the right to be human to the person being killed while in the womb.
I just saw the first ultrasound picture of my first grandchild yesterday. He was sucking his thumb. Incredible technology and there's no further proof of humanness of that 20 week old life than seeing him sucking his thumb. His brain told him to do so, moved his hand towards his mouth etc. How people can say that is a mass of tissue worthy of death is beyond just an opinion, it's evil.
Not great for the unborn.
@Crimsonorblue22 Hadn't heard, saw him play last night, wondered why he wasn't playing tonight.
Did anyone see Salvy's homer last night? As Hawk would say, "Mercy".
Royals ruined my evening tonight in Chicago but it was a great game nonetheless.
@Crimsonorblue22 HaHa! I just saw why you wrote Salvy! Awesome hit.
@jayballer67 no one says you can’t post. Next time maybe ask if anyones seen the Yankees. Ask what people think about them. Might get some discussion going. I've done the same with Wisconsin. A few times I’ve made it known I enjoy them as well. Most people ignore me because they could care less. Some discuss them a bit, quite a few jumped on the bandwagon and cheered mightily that we’d knock off Duke in 2015. A couple of people have made remarks and I back off knowing this is a KU hoops site. There’s ways to discuss these topics without them becoming a controversy.
Logic, If someone came on here thumping their chest about Duke or Kentucky, well that'd be worse than this. This is a Jayhawks site mainly. Of course we like to brag about the Hawks and all that, but I don't go to Kentuckybuckets or Pukebuckets (wow, Pukebuckets!! That's a great one!!!) and brag about KU. That'd be an affront to the one or two decent people that follow those teams.
https://www.pinstripealley.com/ ↗ That's a great one for all things Yankees. Go there. Continue on here if you want but continue to hear us be annoyed by it too.
@jayballer67 No Envy. It's just when one team is clearly the best in the league and their one fan in the particular community we're all in together keeps going on and on about it, it's really kind of tiring. And when it's the most privileged team in the league we all see through it.
@jayballer67 You're making me hate the Yankees more with these posts!
I'm going to a couple Sox/Royals games this next week and we could use some wins so maybe the Royals can trade some guys before that series? :)
So the Yankees get the Royals Benitendi. Hatred of the Yankees just increased.
@Kcmatt7 Unless I read it wrong I read Self saying we're behind because our kids don't have agents and brand new cars which sounds like cheating. Has the landscape of college athletics changed so much that athletes are allowed to have agents and brand new cars? The way I read it is Self saying we've got to catch up in cheating since everyone is.
@BeddieKU23 That doesn't make Self look very good.
I made some brownies, the illustration goes, which were made with the traditional ingredients but a bird flew through the house and pooped in the mix and so we just baked it right into the brownies. Who'd like some brownies? I mean it's just a little bit of poop, probably won't even taste it.
If Bill Self pooped on the recruiting trail even a little bit (sorry this is getting weird) then it's hard for me to stomach. However, someone's gonna have to show evidence that he's guilty indeed, and after 5 years the brownies have gotten stale and I don't want to eat them anyway. The tainted brownies should have been served up last decade if that's what was in the oven. Now, beyond ridiculous, particularly when you look at when the alleged infractions took place.
@mayjay Too late unfortunately, deleted! Maybe on line I can find it somewhere.
Not positive Minnie deserved it, but Buck O'Neil, goodness yes, what took them so long?
@drgnslayr I've wondered why you don't participate in the chats! Sometimes the chat distracts me from what's happening on the court.
Yes, watching on tape is difficult. Just the other day, came home from church, had taped the British Open, recorded the Sox game and decided to watch the BO first and was working through it when I was on facebook and I see something about Cameron Smith winning. Blessing in disguise was I didn't waste any more time watching, got right to the Sox game which was only an hour old, caught up with real time and then was able to chat with friends at the Sox page I go to.
It's interesting how sports have become a social event for many of us. I really have no one to watch KU games with so the chats help me to figure out who my virtual friends are and who my virtual enemies are as well! So if you commented during games, by your own admittance, I'd probably hate you! So don't comment during games!!
@nwhawkfan You guys haven't lost since you wrote that!
@Kubie Hope you're well. Doctor ordered watch the four games?
@Fightsongwriter 2020 Humiliated by no one except Covid. 2021, Humiliated USC. 2022 Humiliated for 1 half.
@Eric-san Yes indeed! Pretty cool season I'd say!
@RockChalkinTexas @approxinfinity Thanks, he was easy to appreciate!
Dementia overtook my father in law in the last 4 years and he finally, thankfully succumbed to it a month ago. We were able to take our time to plan his service and finally had the memorial yesterday. He was 87 years old.
He was a remarkable man and a remarkable sports fan. He loved the Brooklyn Dodgers as he was Long Island kid. Heady days to be a Dodger fan in the mid 40s to mid 50's and he loves to talk about his father who wasn't a sports fan in the least. He would come home from work and say "everyone's radio is on all over Manhattan, is something going one?" My Father In Law would tell his dad, "the Dodgers are playing the Yankees in the World Series"! I must have heard that story 50 times as his mind began to fail him.
He was also a huge college basketball fan. Never had a real favorite but liked Indiana in the Bobby Knight years. He attended a NC game in St. Louis in 1978 sitting directly behind John Wooden as Kentucky beat up Duke. (imagine how much we would've hated watching that game!) He told me frequently of a guy from his HS who was a 6th man at KU, although I can't come up with his name right now. He would go down to the Chicago Stadium for HS tripleheaders when his busy schedule allowed it.
His boys were very athletic and my bro in law set an NCAA record catching a pass in every game all four years he played in D3 that of course will never be broken. He loved telling of his son in Jr. High football who was back to field a punt and the kick was way short and rolling on the ground. Every coach on the sideline and in the stands (dads) were yelling to let it go. David picked it up and ran it all the way to the house for a TD. My Father in Law was livid after the game. David said, "but Dad, when everyone yelled let it go, I noticed the defense started walking off the field. There was no way they could catch me"!
He was a masonry contractor and won, if you will, an oscar for masonry construction. He was named the industry leader of the year. He cared deeply for all people, and to see union leaders come and honor him this week was remarkable. He thought all workers should be treated fairly. Not many union people go and honor the man who headed up the other side. You probably have been in masonry buildings that he influenced how they were constructed more safely, with better mortar, etc.
He did get quite wealthy, but while he did live very comfortably, he invested in the inner city of Chicago through a faith based organization that provides very low cost health care, legal care, food, housing, etc. Millions of his dollars went to this neighborhood and who knows how much to other community development projects around the country.
He let me marry his daughter, an amazing thing indeed! We now have 4 kids and will become grandparents around Christmas, and he was an inspiration to them as well.
We believe that his life was lived to honor God, and his life was laying up treasures in heaven. Don't mean to get too preachy but just want you to know about this great sports fan and father in law.
@dylans Yeah, watch you live 30 more years (I don't know how old you are so maybe you're hoping for 50 or 60 more!) and i don't make it til tomorrow!
