@BeddieKU23 I figure I have 30 years left on this earth and my goal is to never see the decision handed down.
@stoptheflop That's a great insight that I really hadn't picked up on. The refs stayed out of the limelight for the most part. There was some griping on the game thread as pointed out above, but nothing egregious.
@nuleafjhawk Good night.
I did a study on T-Shirts when I was at the NC game in NOLA in 2012. We walked around the French Quarter and convention center most of the day and of course saw lots of KU and UK tee shirts. I noticed that there were some pretty trashy T's with obscenities on them. None were worn by Jayhawk fans. The one I remember said "This bitch bleeds Kentucky blue". It was worn by a woman with obviously very little self worth, and I was actually a little sad that a person would demean herself like that. I did meet some nice Kentucky fans, nice and obnoxious that is.
The only expansion I'm concerned about is my waistline.
@nuleafjhawk Great post. Yes pray, but answered prayer may mean common sense legislation that doesn't impinge on our friends right to shoot their shotguns yet limits these weapons of war that nut jobs are legally getting their hands on.
I'm not an expert at all (but I'll still comment :)) but other countries don't have a problem with this because they limit firearms. Pretty sure UK makes it really tough to own a gun, and lo and behold the country has far less in a year than Chicago has accumulated in this year already.
"The Fat Lady Sings as the Hawks Spread their Wings". That's the quote on my 88 championship t-shirt. I'm a notorious cheapskate so I'm guessing that was the cheapest option at the time!
Good response. I'm a lifelong republican conservative, who through life circumstances has become very less conservative in some areas like guns, immigration, civil rights, etc. I feel I have no one to vote for anymore because the senators in my state are trumpers, democrats control congress in my district. The trumpers will never nominate a presidential candidate that I would see eye to eye with. Yet I am a life long conservative on pro life issues, gay marriage, and some other issues.
But the guns are just the biggest to me. It's a little more personal for reasons explained above. But we drive through a neighborhood frequently to get to church that has much gun violence in it. So it's a threat even. We can at least try to do something to prevent yesterdays tragedy. Tammy Duckworth who is Illinois' senator, and was permanently disabled in Iraq while serving in the military said the sound she heard at the shooting yesterday reminded her of Iraq. The gunfire was so rapid it sounded like machine guns. This is insanity that we allow this to continue.
Tired of headlines involving guns.
Tired of people dying from guns shot by someone who thought they didn't deserve to live.
Tired of people dying from guns shot by someone who had no idea where the deadly bullet was going.
Tired of suicide by gun, which is HALF of all gun deaths but never talked about.
Tired of TV shows providing us entertainment with guns.
Tired of gun debates.
Tired of gun apologists arguments.
Tired of reading news from where I've taught hoping that one of my former students isn't the latest victim or shooter. (Lester Earls nephew whom I taught was the latest such shooter)
Tired of politicians pressured by NRA money to do nothing.
Tired of zero NRA compromising.
Tired of excuses for why AR-15's are so important.
Tired of being tired.
@Jethro Yeah it was kind of a cool exercise to partake in and kudos to your spot on prediction! And your pasty gansta line was classic Jethro!
@Crimsonorblue22 Shoot, I knew this was going to happen. If I left anyone out it was purely unintentional!
Had a little fun today reading the game thread from the NC Game.
2 people declared the game over in the first half, another was not exactly saying it's over, but basically regretted blowing our chance to win a NC against an 8 seed.
Several people, were encouraging us to believe a comeback was possible.
@DanR: "This is still winnable",
@BCT, "Yes, this is winnable. We did it against Miami. We can do it in the 2nd half. Be steady. One basket, one stop, and one rebound at a time. Make yourself proud guys. Let’s go!"
@Jethro, "game isn’t over. we just have to run our offense, make some shots, and make our layups. We can get back into this- we need to get under 10 by 10 minutes. UNC is going to fade…"
@approxinfinity, "Big Dave coming. breathe"
Someone jokingly blamed some Paul Pierce speech as dooming us.
@Kcmatt7 had this gem! "Jalen Wilson had his abilities stolen by the space jam aliens". I think that's actually plausible!
@BeddieKU23 at halftime with the winner of the understatement of the year, "Need an answer in the 2nd half"
@tis4tim found something positive to say at halftime. "Couldn’t play any worse so it has to get better. Other than that I can’t find any positives."
Someone said we don't even have a chance to comeback.
@justanotherfan had the gameplan for the 2nd half. "KU needs to make layups. Simple as that."
@StLJhawk Dissed our favorite band The Preservation Hall Jazz band and said we were playing worse than them which if true would have meant success!
Another person predicted a falling just short comeback, so they were mostly dour, but not entirely.
@approxinfinity panned my review of the preservation hall saying it reminded him of bland gumbo! And so did @rockchalkjayhawk !!
@Eric-san Said 15 points aint nothing.
@FarmerJayhawk said we're a 2nd half team and 9-11 style said lets roll!
@Jethro Tried to keep us hopeful at the half with this stellar prediction: "they blew a 26 point lead against baylor- we’re coming back, and we’re going to win…"
And then the mood changed. "and 1", "keep it rolling", "Defense", "Killer" (not sure who @FarmerJayhawk was referring to but that's pretty serious stuff there!), "HUGE" "GTFO MANEK", "getting that feeling again", "This is good, see ball through hole", "Whose butts are tightening up now? (I wasn't looking at anyones buts, but maybe someone was?),
and the one comment I'm going to miss a lot, "OCH"
One many of us never thought we'd commit to cyberspace, "Wow, Dave so good"
As the run intensified the Fbombs started to fly in utter disregard for the official buckets 1o commandments!
@Jethro, "Braun the Pasty Gansta" We'll leave that one right there.
@tulsajhwk "We're back"
@Kcmatt7 "Took 9 minutes"
@approxinfinity Hell yeah Remy!
After we got the lead, the foul situation got serious, @Jethro "Bacot’s 10th foul…"
@nwhawkfan had this gem, "Avenge Wilt"
Refs enter conversation "Horrible call", "5 vs. 8", FU Ref,
But to the rescue "Remy"
@BeddieKU23 with some good advice, "HAVE TO SCORE"
@approxinfinity "Dave Mccormack LEGEND"
It's over went to it's not over after Harris' brain fart, but it was short lived. I pointed out "I was jumping like a fool around the living room. I hope I get to again"
@DCHawker was the first to declare "Whew....National Champions!!!"
This has been fun. Post game comments are basically all saying the same thing.
Everyone of you deserves a PHOF for this one. Even you @jaybate-1-0
@dylans I think that game would have been a very close game had 'Nova not lost one of their starters the week before.
@Jethro Come on man, Wright coached up a bunch of talented guys but nowhere near the talent of a 2012 Kentucky for example and were a generational team. That's coaching! Brunson and Bridges are the only two decent NBA players from that group. I really don't agree any coach could have done that. 2012 Kentucky, yes indeed, Cal had a talented group and I think a lot of coaches could have won with them. Not very many coaches are taking 2018 Nova roster and dominating.
@Texas-Hawk-10 I'm not sure how you could argue Self wasn't outcoached. Jay Wright put on a coaching clinic that entire season. It's a silly argument and I don't mind losing it which means Self is the best!
@Jethro I still think Jay is slightly better than Bill.
@approxinfinity Mad respect for Jay Wright after he outcoached Bill Self twice in the the dance. I never would have believed it because Nova had a rep for choking in the tournament until they got over the hump in that elite 8 game in 2016. Of course in 18 it was no contest.
I'll never say in June, can't wait to get to November, but that otherwise dismal prospect is softened by the startup of hoops. Hoping of course to finally see a game with Wisconsin. Payback for Kentucky is necessary after their last seasons wipeout, but we got the last laugh in the most hilarious kind of way.
@Texas-Hawk-10 Lots of people go to summer camp in Minnesota!
Yankees get no hit which is always fun to see.
@rushrc I don’t blame any person for doing whatever they could to avoid Vietnam, even slimy Coach K.
Been out for a 1 mile swim in the lake already. Gonna be a good day!
@bskeet One person likes the Yankees and decides to come in and rub it in our faces when they're having a historically good season.
@jayballer67 It's annoying as h e double hockey sticks to come on a site you know are almost all Royal fans who have gone off the deep end since their way more recent WS victory and tell everyone how great your team is.
Didn't watch nor really cared to be honest, but my friend who's a Duke fan posted on FB "We own the draft". I responded, "We own the trophy".
He was known as biggie because he weighed 350 pounds in Jr. High. Someone saw his potential and obviously he put in the work. He was basically a homeless kid who had a really really tough upbringing. After leaving Purdue and a cup of coffee in the league, he, and this is conjecture, but no team to play for, COVID hit, and he let himself go. Word was he had gained a lot of weight so the natural cause was probably related to that.
As a BIG fan I loved watching him compete. Really amazing college player.
Not sure if you can see this picture, but he obviously had gained a lot. https://www.instagram.com/p/CfFS2i4vpsC/ ↗
@Crimsonorblue22 They have a sort of ESPN+ thing for the less popular games. I've never had to miss a Badger game because of the + thing. They want their popular teams on live TV. Their Sunday games have become later in the day with some Sunday evening games.
@mayjay Way to rain on the parade Mr. Sunshine!
You'll get to see every basketball game on the BIGNetwork if they go to the league. I've never forked over any extra ESPN+ money to watch the Badgers, and while the network doesn't televise every league game on their main channel, they do feature the prominent teams.
Man if Gable Stevenson doesn't win male athlete of the year the whole thing is suspect right from the start.
You've heard it before, but I for one would love to see KU in the BIG! Seeing KU at Northwestern (easy ticket), Purdue and of course in Madison would be amazing. You all would have new reasons to join me in hate of Iowa to boot. It's win win!
Except, the basketball of Baylor and Tech is so good that I'd not like to see those go.
@mayjay I mean I am on summer vacation now...
@mayjay Are you telling me I should have read the article before commenting?
I'm sorry, but I find this inappropriate for kubuckets.
@nuleafjhawk And MLB kisses their behinds too. I've just gotten into twitter the last few months and MLB twitter account is all Yankees. It's like they are MLB's only child.
@DanR I like Aaron Judge but not their domestic terrorist closer.
BTW in 2005 the Sox had four straight complete games in the ALCS. That’s rare dominance.
Every team would have 79 homers if they played in a park with a 295 foot wall in right field.
I'll say this, go back to 2001 and the Yankees and White Sox, or Cubs, or Royals, or Angels, Dodgers or Astros, or Braves, or Phillies or Nationals all have 1 world series title to their name. Yet talent wise, because the inept leadership of baseball is powerless to stop it, the Yankees stockpile more talent than any team each and every season. And they are tied with all of those other teams in world series titles. Must suck to have all that talent and only win 1 world series in the last 21 seasons!
The White Sox suck this year and we beat the Yankees 3 of the last 4 times we played them.
@nuleafjhawk If you like to listen to Podcasts, I found "the Jayhawker podcast" with Wayne Simien and Brian Haney does some of the interviews. There's a great one on there with Roy Williams. I enjoyed Sherron Collins' interview as well my Jayhawk hero and fellow classmate Danny Manning.
Grimes first game as a Jayhawk, 21 points in the bright lights of the Champions Classic against MSU. 6 of 10 3 pointers. He never again scored even 20 in a game the rest of the year. That amazed me. Still not sure how someone does that and then goes for double figures only 9 more times. I can still picture his first shot he made, a beautifully formed 3 from the wing.
A team that needs the contributions of someone like Connor Teahan would never be good enough to play in the national championship game.
These two announcements on a day I received my championship tshirt, and book, and last day of school made for a very very very happy birthday!!!! I’ve got one minute left.
Latest results looks like no more trophies for the trophy case this year.
Team took a big turn for the worst, especially Hiller who went +11.
@kuballin10 After I posted I looked at the team page at KU Athletics and realized this 1st day result is a bit of an outlier. Some team wins, but lots of 4ths and 5ths in there as well.
Harry Hiller in 1st after 1 day of the NCAA mens championship. Team is in 4th, 4 strokes behind. Looks like day 1 of a 4 day tournament. Not sure the format, but promising start.
Not sure if this is on another thread but Hunter goes to Texas
@Kcmatt7 I could probably look it up, but who is Dayton and why should he be fired?
@Jethro I'm just drooling about the NIL possibilities. The McCullar burger at McDonalds.
In a sub category Mark Emmerich "Kansas City Jayhawks"
@Texas-Hawk-10 Didn't know that story, sounds interesting. Always been a bit of a mystery that Wilt didn't win titles at KU as dominant as he was.
