@mayjay They've mentioned that!
@mayjay yes I agree but not with my heart!
He threw 80 pitches through 7 innings and Roberts pulled him. Unbelievable. This is yet another thing driving fans away from baseball.
@tis4tim Funny thing is I looked at the picture @bskeet placed in this post of the block and just assumed it was Dave blocking someone early in the game. Then I looked again and thought wow, that's Remy. I think the refs did a good job showing restraint and not whistling it there. Not saying at all that he fouled him but I'm sure Michigan fans still have nightmares of Burke blocking a fast break for Louisville in the waning minutes and getting whistled for it. That's when I turned that game off as I figured Michigan had no chance if they were going to favor sleazy Rick Patino over classy John Beilein.
@Gorilla72 That'd drive me nuts if I was in the ACC and had to watch him foul all the time and get away with it.
@BeddieKU23 LaGerald Vick was one of my favorite dunkers from that era. Really amazing high flyer.
@BeddieKU23 Wow!
Kansas finished this season with 124 dunks. Here is the breakdown by player:
Ochai, 37
David, 32 # of missed dunks ????
Christian, 27
Mitch, 15
KJ, 7
Juan, 3
Jalen, 1
Remy, 1
Joe, 1
@bskeet With apologies to the opinion that the alley oop was the play of the game, I thought this one was to be honest.
Seeing the Jalen Wilson pic reminds me of a chart I saw on twitter of KU dunks this season. JWill had 1 dunk all season. Strange. Apparently our dunks were much higher in number than in past years.
Nice job!!
@DanR I hope I’m not being doom and gloom but realistic. It sounds like we’re going to get in some trouble, I’m just trying to figure out what it might be, even if it’s wrong.
I will say Bill has definitely crossed some lines and we deserve some consequences. It's embarrassing as an alum to be honest. I had a dude a few years back, total stranger tell me basically out of the blue "your coach is the dirtiest coach in America". I think maybe the dirtiest just retired, not sure if anyone heard, but the old man at Dewk hung it up. I see chatter on my other teams site and people with the blue blood FF saying I can't cheer for any team because I don't like Villanova and the other 3 are the dirtiest teams in America.
I want to keep basking in the glow of this championship. But I also want the NCAA to end this and give us what's coming, right or wrong. I hate the NCAA for their mismanaged organization. I want to see the future for our team with the cloud removed.
Thanks @Kcmatt7 @BeddieKU23 for your response.
@Kcmatt7 Can you explain "Show-Cause"? I've never heard that term.
@Crimsonorblue22 Not sure calling us the KC Jayhawks is anything to get uptight about. I stood in front of church yesterday to lead the congregational prayer and said "please pray FOR me", instead of saying please pray WITH me! Guys our age make mistakes, a slip of the tongue.
Thanks all I’ve been super busy and haven’t had a chance to read thru everything. Two soccer matches after school so I won’t be home til seven. Then I’ll read everything!
I guess no one wants to talk about this reality
As the afterglow of victory slowly fades to things of the future I begin to wonder what is going to happen to KU Basketball. My mind waffles between these results.
1 Nothing happens. If they can't render a decision with a penalty after this long they're not going to do anything.
2 We get a slap on the wrist. Loss of a scholarship, coach gets a minor 1-10 game suspension.
3 We get more serious consequences but not a program altering one. This is what I've heard from people guessing just like we are. Half a year suspension for the coach, postseason ban of one year, multiple scholarship losses.
4 Most serious. Year long suspension for Bill Self. Postseason ban. Multiple year scholarship losses, and...???
None of these 4 scenarios are anything I've heard is definite in that persons mind, just their own speculation of what is going to happen. Some of you follow this more closely than I do, and while I like to think 1 is going to be our consequence, I just don't know.
I hate the thought of being a fan of a dirty program. I've read tweets/FB comments of former fans who walked away in disgust.
What I don't want in this discussion is what aboutism. I know there's other dirty programs but if we committed infractions then it doesn't matter what AZ or Duke did.
So thanks for your opinions.
@Crimsonorblue22 It reminds me of a Seinfeld episode where Elaine is a guest of George Steinbrenner's in the box seats. She likes the Orioles and wears their hat and is told she has to remove which of course she refuses and well, comedy happens!
@Crimsonorblue22 That's a great look for him!!!
Actually listened to Self's speech today from the Memorial Stadium celebration. I'm paraphrasing, but he said something to this effect, "these guys played a great game yesterday, well not the first 20 minutes, but..."
@mayjay But I watched a great MASH episode during halftime which eased my suffering.
@bskeet Great writeup! The way things kept working out kind of reminded me of 1988. Upsets took care of Purdue and Pitt, and a date with KState in the Elite 8. The media didn't quite hype things the way they do now, but what an epic matchup!
I actually thought the refereeing was decent in the tournament. Besides the unfortunate treatment of Holmgren of Gonzaga, there really didn't seem to be too much controversy. I guess the hanging on the rim T on Illinois was a bit of a fiasco, but when we play a game like we did against Villanova and get whistled for 8 fouls the entire game then the refs are trying hard not to make themselves a part of the story. The NC game had some bad moments I guess, but generally I didn't believe it cost either team the game.
Remy's season was like a baseball team picking up someone at the trade deadline who immediately is one of their best players.
Finally, I've been thinking a lot about the reasons why they might have awarded Ochai with the MOP? Certainly his first half against Villanova was astoundlingly good, but the rest was just meh to good. Dave had a rough first half against UNC like everyone else but his work against 'Nova was really big. Anyone else wonder about Och getting the award?
@Kcmatt7 A couple of plays before that the elbow in the back of Remy Martin underneath their basket.
@drgnslayr Forgive me father for I have sinned. I forgot to hit record at the beginning of the game. I switched channel at halftime, and finally hit record near the end, which I figured would record all the way back to when I started watching. Well, it was after the timeslot allotted for the game, and so it just recorded what was called "postgame" or something like that. So my recording is just of the last 2 minutes or so.
To be honest I would have not bothered to watch the first half again anyways, but seeing the breathtaking run to open the half would have been fun to see. There's a 12 minute every play of the game package on Youtube now which I watched.
In 2008 we were winning 40-12. Monday, we went ahead 7-0, and then UNC went on a 40-18 run, but of course then we went on a 31-10 run. We won both games of course, and when you look at surviving a 40-18 run, that is really impressive. That 7-0 start won us the game really. UNC reverted to 8 seed form just in time.
A lot has been written here about media bias and I'm an expert on it. But wins like this just force them to pay attention to our team. It's been fun reading all of the articles.
I complained about moving picks by Bacot to my wife who didn't care because the refs couldn't hear me through the TV, but a search on twitter shows a lot of tweets about the same thing. I don't understand refereeing that allows that. The fabulous Illinois team that lost to UNC in 2005 was victimized I believe by the lack of the same call on UNC over and over and over. That teams version of Bacot was Scottie May who ran over many guys on his way to the MOP trophy. UNC apparently has these things in their playbook.
To be fair the same tweeters mentioned more than a few times DeJuan palming the ball which I honestly have never noticed. What an indictment on human nature because I notice it frequently with modern players.
After we won in 1988 I stepped outside my apartment and if you didn't know what happened you'd swear the biggest riot of the year was taking place.
I know some like Braun's chirping at the crowd. I may be the only one, but I just don't get someone who makes a shot having to go down the court yelling the B word at crowds of fans. Although I like his game, I'm not seeing a big pro career for him, at least in the NBA. I do hope I'm wrong. Not sure any of these guys really succeed at the next level.
Major championships in my own life were the 85 Bears, the 88 Jayhawks, the 90's Bulls which honestly became ho hum after a few, the 05 White Sox, 08 Jayhawks and this years version. So this 14 year personal drought is over. I don't want to wait 14 years for another, but I've been fortunate to be witness to very satisfying champions over the years.

@Crimsonorblue22 said in THANK YOU, JAYHAWKS:
@wissox it's a pretty normal channel here.
If they didn't show some NCAA each March and an occasional baseball game in the summer, I'd never watch TBS/TNT. And poor people besides those who choose not to pay a ton of money to watch TV didn't have that opportunity. It's really dumb to put it on a relatively obscure channel like TBS.
Why get mad at us who choose not to watch a game like that? It's no fun to sit there all pissed off.
8?
@Gorilla72 Such a stupid thing to set a record for because these games should be on free TV. Mark "Kansas City Jayhawks" Emmerich of the NCAA I guess is responsible for this fiasco which cuts out the poor and many elderly like my parents. But screw all those people, highest bidder gets to put it on their relatively obscure channel.
I turn games off like last night. I was so disgusted at halftime I watched MASH on my DVR. At the end of the episode I checked the score and we were down by 13 early in the 2nd, I thought well that's doable and I got back into it. Glad I did. But I seriously wonder why I get so worked up? My heart is strong, so not too worried about that. I've got to chill more. I do find not live chatting helps me to relax more because some people help my nerves to get more frayed!
@nuleafjhawk I don't care when they play the Super Bowl, my team ever gonna play in it again, but you know, we still have 1985.
@FarSideHawk Welcome back!
I am. I'm sleepy too, doesn't help. Bed at 12:30, sawing logs around 2, up at 7, kids in room at 8:45, about to teach my last class, then coach soccer practice, then home.
But my mind just keeps going back to it, over and over again. That 31-10 explosion. Magnificent. Legendary. Biggest comeback ever in a championship. 2013 bad memory somewhat erased. 2018 embarrassment. Erased. 2020 what if, vindicated. DeJuan stepping out after we'd all begun our celebration? Gut wrenching for a few, breath held, barely draws iron, haven't felt this happy about a missed shot since the Davidson game. Mind keeps spinning and spinning. First half woes erased. Yes, for a 2nd day work is difficult. Why can't they play these things on a Friday night?
Ochai agrees with you Approx. 🐦 View Tweet?s=20&t=htvGBlXUMoJkxtBCi81sBQ
Aren't they all one for the ages? :)
When the Marlins won their first world series, the owner was being interviewed in the postgame and first question out of the interviewers mouth is "are you breaking down the team?" When the 50 greatest living baseball players were assembled pregame for an MLB all star game Pete Gray asks Pete Rose, while lined up on the field "did you gamble on baseball?" When Roy Williams was interviewed post game in 2003 first question was "are you going to Carolina?" His answer is famous in KU folklore of course. Reporters and media are notorious for this, and to be perfectly honest there's a lot of Americans who liked the CBS article because they want to see us get it.
When they mentioned graduating in 3 years last night I was floored. That is a great accomplishment. When you combine a rigorous practice schedule and academic schedule so you can graduate early, I'm, like wow, amazing.
@BShark What do you mean?
The toughness to comeback and then not be spent and let the other team rebuild the lead was remarkable. Happens a lot. But we just kept our focus when we got back into the game and maintained it. Had they called some moving screens on Bacot it would have been an easy coast to victory.
Big 12 back to back
How do you like our chances next year? :)
I'm a daily reader of God's word and tonight I was in a section of Ezekiel where he prophecies bones coming to life. It's a picture of the future. Dem Bones, Dem Bones, Dem Dry Bones song is based on it.
Well at the half, and I verify this is true, that I texted my KU roomate that I believe it is a vision of the Jayhawk bones coming to life.
I've got to ask you brothers and sisters ARE YOU A BELIEVER??
I was jumping like a fool around the living room. I hope I get to again
Foul first?
Wow that was a missed opportunity
Why do refs do this?
Horrible call
@Kcmatt7 did you want guys running through vomit?
Anyone notice the moving screens on bacot every time at top of key? They’ve scored at least 6 points off them this half
@StLJhawk national anthem was great! Preservation Hall is a national treasure.
