In 25 hours we play the OKLAHOMA SOONERS • Jan 19, 2015 01:25 PM

Top twenty players ranked in the Big 12.

From Matt Scot on Twitter -Don't know what the B is in BPM stands for but the OU starting five is tough.

Why we lost in Ames and how bad it hurt us • Jan 19, 2015 12:05 PM

The local sports stations hate it when the Jayhawks lose because no one wants to listen in or call. I'm a lot like that with this site. I didn't want to read what I knew was going to be written. There almost seems to be hatred towards the team because they and the Coach let YOU down and ruined the morning breakfast.
Are we looking forward to playing Oklahoma tonight on Big Monday with a National audience like ISU received Saturday?
Kentucky and Temple hurt, this was a close game on the road where we fought back against a team which for the last four years has been the superior trey team in the Big 12.
When we were 3-0 every pundit in America acted like they didn't pick Texas or OU to win the League. I'll take a one point victory in overtime tonight which has happened many times in the last ten years.

What was really scary is that ISU fans did not storm the court, as if they now expect to win every game in Hilton. That is our mind set. I remember the game where Collision had the greatest game as a Jayhawk and we beat Texas. Fans began to storm the court and Kirk kept yelling, "This is Kansas, we don't storm the court!"

I'm glad Larry Brown got to keep his job playing with Danny and the supposed "Rag Tag" rest. I remember how surprised I was when we were invited to the NCAA tournament instead of the NIT. Everyone I knew said KU sucked after losing 5 conference games in the Big 8, and getting blown out by K-State in the Conference Tourney. Oklahoma is another ranked team with the supposed best Starting 5 in all of basketball. They do not have any depth and we are playing in the Phogg. ROCKCHALK DAMN IT.

This seems out of place while so many on the site think that Coach is stupid for wanting people to play defense and having standards. I among many others had marked this game down as a loss at the beginning of the season. Add in Game day and a one day turn around to play Oklahoma and it is obvious that ESPN and the rest of College Basketball wants KU not to continue the streak. WHB spent the day talking about how boring the Big 12 is and that Kansas is boring because they always win. What plays out, no matter what, I support Bill Self over any coach in America. I'm not blind to our shortcomings but neither is Coach. I wish Greene could handle the ball and play defense rather than watch, I wish Alexander could go out and guard his man on the parameter. To Quote Dr. Martin Luther King in honor of his day, "We will get to the promise land!"

ISU and the Risk of More Inside Out • Jan 16, 2015 09:45 PM

I can't watch and chat. Quick thoughts that are written down always get me into trouble. I've read some of the dialogue and the anger towards my team, and the increase of people on the chat distract me from biting my lip and throwing things while the game is on. Sometimes, I can't watch when the team goes south and I switch to the Velocity channel before going back to the DVR and catching up. I have learned over the years when watching Self what he wants the team to do and cringe when it doesn't happen, knowing the red face that is going to call a time out and chew and chew until we get it right and a smile returns to the master's face. We each have our own game plan.

Big 12 action on Saturday. • Jan 16, 2015 07:37 PM

I think we beat WV because we have Devonte back. WV plays the 40 minutes of Hell defense with a full court press on every play. We will practice 7 on 5 for the full court stuff. I didn't realize how long Devonte's arms are. He can throw over the top during a full court press. There should be plenty of dunks during that game. Tomorrow, we just have to follow the scouting reports on defense and play Niang straight up. He is having a year like Perry is. Both have been broken down minutely and both have scouting reports that take away their signature moves. Perry's spin move and Niang's up and under move. Defense will win on the road.

TGIF: Ames, Here Comes the Jayhawks! • Jan 16, 2015 06:23 PM

When defenses go all out to stop a bread and butter type of offense, such as screening for Forte for the entire possession time, it wears out the person guarding that man. How Mason gets the points he does on offense after how well he plays defense is amazing. Selden plays incredible defense, but his offense suffers a bit because of it. The comment about Cliff's minutes comes down to Lucas knowing the system on defense better, right now, than Cliff does. Many of the Dunk fans just want Cliff in for offense, but as of right now, Lucas still has a greater Red Shirt knowledge. Mistakes outweigh any pluses on offense in the Self Book of Playing Time.

@jaybate-1.0 Every so often when I read your post I forget that you're talking about basketball. I'm sure, at one time in your life you were some kind of teacher similar to the Priest that taught at Rockhurst college where I picked up some credits so that I could be a teacher. He taught macro-economics but always explained his theories using the Chicago Cubs to deliniate his positions. You have become my "Father Dudenhoffer" of basketball. The Lincoln paragraph was a direct reference to Self using Lucas in the second half instead of Cliff. It was obvious.

Nick and Kirk stayed for a fourth and went on to have long careers in the NBA. Both could retire soon and It would sure be nice to have a big man Like Nick come back and coach our Big Men. Nick was the modern day Kevin McHale and could make a big difference in coaching and in recruiting. Kirk will probably be a coach in the NBA where he mentored so many Newbies. The Wizards brought him in to DC just to show John Wall how things are done.

Time For Toughening... • Jan 14, 2015 06:21 PM

I thought last night was a war. Two teams who waited until Ford called a time out because Forte was exhausted. This, because Coach had Selden, Devonte and Mason all take turns fighting through the multiple screens all night long. We took away Forte and they took away Ellis.
Coach did not have the luxury to keep Greene in the game any longer than he was in there. He came into the game on a defensive possession, promptly got beat embarrassingly then jacked up a guarded three. This game came down to Self knowing that we weren't going to get a lot of open looks and that the way to victory was defense. It will always be defense. Get used to it folks. We don't see practices as to who we can trust. Self wants to win every game. Svi and apparently Greene are not there yet. Svi will probably get it and Greene will continue to play against slower, taller teams, but this is conference and we must win with our best 5 on the court at all times. On offense, we needed every bit of Devonte and Frank's ball handling skill's just to get it across half court.

A New Nickname?? • Jan 14, 2015 04:16 PM

@JayHawkFanToo Love it.

Two different KU technicals. Two men from Chicago. I think a lot of us would like to see some of this attitude in the Validictorian from Witchita. Jamari is very high strung and filled with explosiveness. Self's job is to constantly calm him down., something he doesn't have to do with Perry.

ok guys , lets try and keep it real • Jan 13, 2015 09:59 PM

Since the Kentucky and Temple game, no one on this site has any perceived notion that anything or anyone will be a Cake walk. We are still very young and have to trust in this coach of ours that has come up with a solution, ENERGY - ENERGY and MORE ENERGY. We have recruited the best that we can and as long as they play smart and with ENERGY, no matter the outcome, we are proud of everyone on this team. They each have their own identity, talents and failings. I trust coach Self more than any other coach in the NCAA. He says what he means and yes, I could also have used Vodka after the Kentucky game. ROCKCHALK #11.

OKLAHOMA STATE COWBOYS • Jan 13, 2015 07:15 PM

Sometimes, the man guarding Forte will have to fight through 5 or 6 different screens.

It seems like he's been there for ever. Coach will have something special to stop him. He won't make every one and we have to be ready for the long rebounds.

Speaking of the "Itch", while researching the Alumni of OSU, I remembered the stories during the 2008 National Championship where Cal and Bill took out the two girls they had just met, to find out who was from which college and then, through the LJW I found out that Cal's wife was married to Nolan Crowmwell, the All-American Quarterback at KU. Then, looking further, I found that Cal had been at KU previously coaching the JV for Ted Owens. Nolan was playing for the Rams and had an apartment in LA while Ellen stayed in Lawrence and worked in the Ticket office. Then, I ended up on a Louisville sports blog where Kentucky trolls were pimping the Cardinals about the Pitino sex scandal, and the Cardinals were arguing back about Cal, Ellen and her break up with Nolan as being just as scandalous. I found no proof of this and other articles mention that she was divorced from Nolan before she met Cal.

Self's daughter came into her father's room while he was taking a nap and woke him to tell him that it would be OK if he were to decide to take the OSU job, but she wanted him to know that she was staying at Kansas. This happened because of stories like this:

My favorite OSU game was the "Pants on Backwards" Doug Gottlieb edition.
Drunk KU fan walks on the court to shake the hands of the Seniors on Senior night and gets a technical on KU that causes Roy to scream "Dad Gum!"
