So far Oklahoma St/Michigan, a snoozer. They are playing defense.

Mar 17, 2017 04:35 PM #2

Or just missing shots perhaps.

Mar 17, 2017 04:43 PM #3

@BShark

a lot of them

Pokes pulling away with made shots/Michigan clanking everything

Mar 17, 2017 04:48 PM #4

Slow start for Baylor.

Mar 17, 2017 04:51 PM #5

@BShark

turnover city!

Mar 17, 2017 04:51 PM #6

@BeddieKU23

What's wrong with Baylor? They fell off a cliff after getting to #1/2 ranking.

Mar 17, 2017 04:51 PM #7

@BShark

They lost to Kansas is what happened.

Mar 17, 2017 04:52 PM #8

@BeddieKU23

I think the KSU loss was mildly worse for them.

Mar 17, 2017 04:53 PM #9

@BShark

Freeman was also suspended and he looks worse since coming back. Lecomte was injured.. They peaked early and didn't have enough guard depth to sustain

Mar 17, 2017 04:53 PM #10

Well Oklahoma St started playing no defense for that stretch

Mar 17, 2017 04:55 PM #11

5 points in 7 minutes for Baylor. BILL SELF TOURNAMENT CHOKE SPECIAL FOR THEM.

Mar 17, 2017 04:56 PM #12

@BeddieKU23 said:

Well Oklahoma St started playing no defense for that stretch

Have they defended anyone all year? Serious question.

Mar 17, 2017 04:56 PM #13

@BShark

Maston just made a 3, I'm laughing

Edit sorry Freeman

Mar 17, 2017 04:57 PM #14

@BShark

No which is surprising given the coach but I guess we could say the same about our team given the coach

Mar 17, 2017 04:58 PM #15

wow the guy with 6 names for Michigan is draining shots

Mar 17, 2017 04:58 PM #16

@BeddieKU23

Yeah I would expect Underwood's OSU teams to defend better in time. Right now he is playing with T Ford's scraps.

Mar 17, 2017 05:06 PM #17

This game is truly awful.

Mar 17, 2017 05:08 PM #18

At least OSU/Michigan is living up to its billing

Mar 17, 2017 05:09 PM #19

Ran to check my bracket, SMU over Baylor in the next round. Thank goodness, don't have to change that.

Mar 17, 2017 05:09 PM #20

I teach in a rough place and I got mixed up in a girl fight today trying to play the peacemaker. A minor shot to the face drew a little blood, enough to take the afternoon off. Basketball all day, here we come!

Mar 17, 2017 05:10 PM #21

@wissox

Maybe some adult beverages will help?

Mar 17, 2017 05:10 PM #22

Truth be told I'd rather still be at school, but all in all it'll work out.

Mar 17, 2017 05:10 PM #23

@wissox

Shot to the face as in a punch? I'd sure hope that over a gunshot! Get better soon.

Mar 17, 2017 05:11 PM #24

@BeddieKU23 I'm pretty much a teetotaller! For me an adult beverage is a pot of coffee, but you go ahead and have one for me!

Mar 17, 2017 05:11 PM #25

way too many fouls on 3's in that first half. Solomon is an idiot. OSU down 1 at half

Mar 17, 2017 05:12 PM #26

@wissox

Wish I could, fighting the stomach bug which I don't wish upon anyone unless your last name is Calvert

Mar 17, 2017 05:12 PM #27

@BShark Thankfully no guns! basically my glasses cut my nose. These kids are vicious

Mar 17, 2017 05:13 PM #28

@wissox

Glad to hear it!

What age?

Mar 17, 2017 05:19 PM #29

@BShark High school, freshman and Junior.

Mar 17, 2017 05:32 PM #30

I was thinking that our streak of every tournament except one since 1986, 30 tournaments entered I suppose, 28 of them have seen us win the opening game, and if I counted in my head correctly, 20 of them have not ended until we've won at least two games. Pretty cool stuff. However you undo a jinx right now, do what ever you do please because I don't want to jinx us today.

Mar 17, 2017 05:32 PM #31

@BShark DANG does Baylor know how to play any defense? - -ROCK CHALK ALL DAY LONG BABY

Mar 17, 2017 05:38 PM #32

Highly entertaining game going on. OSU up 6 under 15 timeout

Mar 17, 2017 05:41 PM #33

@BeddieKU23 Michigan survived the worst plane crash in the history of aviation is the storyline that I heard all weekend during the big10 tournament, therefore they deserve to win.

Mar 17, 2017 05:42 PM #34

@wissox

We all know that word deserving doesn't hold water in the tourney.. But yeah crazy story and events.

Mar 17, 2017 05:45 PM #35

So Vandy is a 9 seed and Minnesota is a 5, but KState barely gets in and OK State is a 10? Give me a break. People whining about WSU being a 10 when OSU beat them by 17 earlier this season. OK State should be a 6 or a 7.

Mar 17, 2017 05:49 PM #36

@KirkIsMyHinrich said:

OSU was garbage the first half of the season. A 6 or 7 seed implies they're viewed as a top 25 team which they are not. Same reason why people bitching about the 5th place team in the ACC getting a 1 seed makes no sense or the 3rd place team in the PAC 12 makes getting a 1 seed makes no sense.

I know people were bitching about UNC getting a 1 seed, but they won their conference outright and that conference happens to be the best league in basketball.

Mar 17, 2017 05:54 PM #37

Juwon Evans came to ball! Got them beating Louisville in my bracket. Hope they can get past Michigan and do it.

Mar 17, 2017 05:54 PM #38

And Oklahoma St., after losing their first 6 in conference, then won 10 of their last 11. In fact the only games they lost after that point were to Iowa State, Baylor, and Kansas, and all of those games were by single digits. It should be apparent to anyone with a pulse that OK State is much better than a 10 seed, and certainly much better than the Vanderbilt/Northwestern teams we saw play yesterday. Easily a 7 seed in my mind the way they are playing right now.

If the ACC is the best conference and the Big12 is 7-1 against them, what does that make the Big12?

Mar 17, 2017 05:56 PM #39

wow Michigan raining 3's...

Mar 17, 2017 05:57 PM #40

@BeddieKU23 Ya 12-23 from 3 for Michigan. They can't miss today.

Mar 17, 2017 05:57 PM #41

7 3's this half already

Mar 17, 2017 05:58 PM #42

Shades of Burke on that Walton three..............

Mar 17, 2017 05:59 PM #43

@Texas-Hawk-10

Basically OSU was good against the bottom half of the big twelve, terrible against the top half.

Mar 17, 2017 06:00 PM #44

@KirkIsMyHinrich They made more than their fair share last week against the Badgers too.

Mar 17, 2017 06:01 PM #45

@BShark They did win in Morgantown, though.

Mar 17, 2017 06:01 PM #46

OSU has to run Michigan off the 3 point line, isn't it obvious? more than half their total field goals are 3's..

Mar 17, 2017 06:01 PM #47

As good as Evans is, 16 points on 19 shots will get you beat every night

Mar 17, 2017 06:03 PM #48

This is insane shooting.. OSU is toasted!

Mar 17, 2017 06:05 PM #49

Baylor making a run.

Mar 17, 2017 06:07 PM #50

Got Ok st in my "emotion" bracket and Michigan on my Ken Pom by Defensive Efficiency bracket. Really would love to see pokes represent the big 12 well here.

Mar 17, 2017 06:07 PM #51

15/27. It's kind of amazing Ok State is only down by 4 points.

Mar 17, 2017 06:07 PM #52

Kevin Harlan is fantastic at his job.

Mar 17, 2017 06:08 PM #53

@KirkIsMyHinrich

Well, they don't defend.

Mar 17, 2017 06:09 PM #54

Underwood must take some of the blame if they lose you can't let a team shoot every shot they want.

Mar 17, 2017 06:09 PM #55

I mean on some of these, they've been open. Some of them have been from near half-court. And one that I just saw was a step-back with a hand in his face.

Mar 17, 2017 06:12 PM #56

Michigan has attempted 7 2 point shots in the 2nd half.

Mar 17, 2017 06:12 PM #57

Most overrated announcer who you got? I think Nantz.

Mar 17, 2017 06:13 PM #58

@BShark

Kellog for me

Mar 17, 2017 06:13 PM #59

@BeddieKU23

Do people think he is good? yeesh

Mar 17, 2017 06:14 PM #60

@BShark

Seems to get a lot of big games, never shuts up kind of like someone else we know on ESPN

Mar 17, 2017 06:14 PM #61

@BShark Nancy boy is a good call.

Mar 17, 2017 06:16 PM #62

Wow Motley

Mar 17, 2017 06:17 PM #63

Baylor will survive, OSU not looking so lucky

Mar 17, 2017 06:17 PM #64

@BeddieKU23

Yep too many treys from Michigan.

Mar 17, 2017 06:23 PM #65

38-20 board advantage for ok st.

Mar 17, 2017 06:24 PM #66

I mean I know OK State isn't a great defensive team but 16/29 and 11/15 from 3 in the 2nd half is just other-worldly. What's gotten into Michigan lately?

Mar 17, 2017 06:24 PM #67

Evans misses a layup that is gonna bite em bad

Mar 17, 2017 06:25 PM #68

@KirkIsMyHinrich they are hot in march. They look like a final four contender

Mar 17, 2017 06:25 PM #69

@HawkChamp

I don't think this level of shooting can be sustained over 6 games.

Mar 17, 2017 06:26 PM #70

@HawkChamp said:

@KirkIsMyHinrich they are hot in march. They look like a final four contender

They got hot at the beginning of February. They've won 10 of 12 entering today.

Mar 17, 2017 06:27 PM #71

Can make 3's for days but can't sink free throws.

Mar 17, 2017 06:29 PM #72

Had to have a 3 there

Mar 17, 2017 06:29 PM #73

Terrible decision

Mar 17, 2017 06:31 PM #74

Omg Evans wtf was he thinking for a drive with 10 seconds left

Mar 17, 2017 06:32 PM #75

@Blown think he was trying for an And one

Mar 17, 2017 06:33 PM #76

Is Phil Forte finally done now...or will the NCAA grant him a 14th year of eligibility?

Mar 17, 2017 06:33 PM #77

Oregon very shaky warrior right now.

Mar 17, 2017 06:34 PM #78

@Blown Its ok though. Baylor is kicking the crap out of New Mexico St. And, I didnt have either Okie State or Michigan getting past Louisville

Mar 17, 2017 06:34 PM #79

What a strange game. OK State +19 on the glass. Shot 54% from the field, shot 43% from 3, shot 88% from the line, and only turned the ball over 10 times. And still lose by a point.

Mar 17, 2017 06:35 PM #80

@Lulufulu I know I'm desperate for a good big 12 showing

Mar 17, 2017 06:36 PM #81

@Blown Ditto, totaly ditto. After last years bed crapping

Mar 17, 2017 06:36 PM #82

@Blown Ive got Kstate beating Cincinatti today

Mar 17, 2017 06:36 PM #83

Brooks back in and Oregon goes on a run.

Mar 17, 2017 06:42 PM #84

@bmensch1

Keiton Page's little brother is finally out of eligibility

Mar 17, 2017 06:54 PM #85

Marcus Marshall, Juwan Evans, Donovan Mitchell, Quentin Snyder, Derrick Walton, Dillon Brooks, Monte Morris, Devonte Graham, Frank Mason.

Midwest is the point guard region.

Mar 17, 2017 07:16 PM #86

Louisville will wake up eventually I'm sure, but right now yikes.

Mar 17, 2017 07:33 PM #87

...

Mar 17, 2017 07:35 PM #88

@wissox

Nothing but respect for teachers that work under those conditions; not many willing to do it. My daughter teaches special needs kids in an inner city school in Kansas City, Mo, and I know how stressful it can be.

Mar 17, 2017 07:36 PM #89

@JayHawkFanToo Thanks. No stress this afternoon though!

Mar 17, 2017 07:37 PM #90

Wow, a flagrant 1 at the end of a game? Way to screw up my bracket even more refs.

Mar 17, 2017 07:37 PM #91

Refs just handed Arkansas the game.

Mar 17, 2017 07:37 PM #92

How do you call a flagrant there? Way to ruin the game.

Mar 17, 2017 07:37 PM #93

@JayHawkFanToo

Well said and that's awesome of your daughter to do that job.

Mar 17, 2017 07:40 PM #94

Louisville starting to gain control now.

Mar 17, 2017 07:41 PM #95

Disagreeing that it's a call that will be discussed forever because these two teams stink and Arkansas will be bounced by 25 points Sunday.

Mar 17, 2017 07:41 PM #96

WHAT A TERRIBLE FLAGRANT CALL.

Mar 17, 2017 07:41 PM #97

@wissox A girl fight is the one thing I refuse to break up at my school. I've dealt with two of them in the hallways this year and my focus was protecting the other students and let the police and administration deal with breaking up the fight. I'm 6-5 about 270 lbs. and I refuse to get in the middle of girl fights because there is no stopping them. When guys fight, there's at least some semblance of strategy, but a girl fight is just grabbing, punching, pulling, or kicking anything within reach. There is no logic involved in a girl fight.

Mar 17, 2017 07:42 PM #98

@wissox

Yeah ultimately it doesn't matter.

Mar 17, 2017 07:56 PM #99

Man sittin there and watching that dam Oklahoma St & Michigan game I was having a flashback - -Michigan hittin every cottin pickin 3 they threw up in the 2nd half - -I thought dam, Iowa State at Allen all over again. - -I thought Oklahoma St actually played pretty well for the most part, if Evans would of hit a few more of his lay ups mercy. - -WELP 1 down. - -Baylor turns it on in the 2nd half, thought they were going to pull thewir annual early exit, but props they came alive. - -ROCK CHALK ALL DAY LONG BABY

Mar 17, 2017 08:04 PM #100

Any chance KState beats Cincy tonight?

Mar 17, 2017 08:26 PM #101

@KirkIsMyHinrich

I predict many exbruces for the loss, players to be thrown under the bus. That said, Cincy isn't good on offense, so there is a chance.

Mar 17, 2017 08:49 PM #102

@Blown

Some of the post game analyst, including a NCAA official, are saying that he pushed him hard and the call was warranted. I disagree. If he pushed hard he would had fallen towards the sideline but the replay clearly shows he tried to hold him and he tripped and fell towards the basket. Sure it was a foul but no way it was flagrant as the game announcers pretty much said at the time.

Mar 17, 2017 08:59 PM #103

@JayHawkFanToo It was a flagrant because there was no play on the ball which is a black and white rule.

Mar 17, 2017 09:02 PM #104

@JayHawkFanToo I agree-- and I also think by the letter of the law that he didn't make "a basketball play on the ball" they were probably right within the rules.

But it was still a terrible call. Players put two hands on each other all of the time and it's not called flagrant. They should have let him shoot the free throws and moved on.

Terrible way to be eliminated from the tournament.

Mar 17, 2017 09:03 PM #105

@KirkIsMyHinrich Yes. Kansas State WildEmaws will win.

Mar 17, 2017 09:09 PM #106

@Texas-Hawk-10

Player commit touch fouls without making a play for the ball all the time at the end of games and it is rarely called a flagrant. No doubt it was a foul but I don't believe it should have been called a flagrant, at least not at that point in the game.

Mar 17, 2017 09:09 PM #107

Come on SMU, close this.

Mar 17, 2017 09:12 PM #108

Holy shit. Speaking of Brannen Greene references, SMU player with his foot on the oob line after catching the ball...

Mar 17, 2017 09:13 PM #109

Shaky ft shooter on the line down 1...

Mar 17, 2017 09:14 PM #110

Wow this game...

Mar 17, 2017 09:16 PM #111

Rhody looks pretty good. I believe I have them winning a couple (but we see how that went for me with SMU).

Mar 17, 2017 09:22 PM #112

I liked the 11 seeds, but not Rhode Island wth creighton?

Mar 17, 2017 09:23 PM #113

Yep I have URI beating Oregon, which is probably a little crazy.

Mar 17, 2017 09:24 PM #114

@BShark Ya slightly crazy. I have URI winning today but losing to Oregon. Have Oregon in the elite 8 actually.

Mar 17, 2017 09:29 PM #115

Didn't watch anything but the last minute of SMU/SC, but why did SMU lose with 3 TO's in their pocket? Coach figured he didn't have anything good to say?

Mar 17, 2017 09:42 PM #116

@wissox

Probably been watching tape of Roy.

Mar 17, 2017 09:48 PM #117

Speaking of Roy, UNC looks reaaaaaaal good.

Mar 17, 2017 09:52 PM #118

@BShark they do but they are also playing Texas southern

Mar 17, 2017 09:53 PM #119

@HawkChamp

Don't see them having a close game until the EE.

Mar 17, 2017 09:56 PM #120

@wissox jankovich mismanaged the last 30 seconds badly. Looks like nothing designed to get a look. Just hero ball

Mar 17, 2017 10:06 PM #121

It's probably no big deal that he didn't call a TO. Here's what they say at TO's anyways:

Make sure you box out.

Make sure you switch on their screens.

Watch out for the back door cuts.

You've got to keep the ball moving.

Check out that dancer out there.

Where you want to eat after the game? Buffalo Wild Wings? They show lots of games and we can check our brackets there.

You guys on the bench, be ready, I may need you.

Mar 17, 2017 10:19 PM #122

Half an hour until the Hoi Hawks tip off.

Mar 18, 2017 02:26 AM #123

Not sure if anyone's still paying attention, but how the heck does a 7 seed like South Carolina get to play a game in their own state? Pretty good treatment for an average team.

Mar 18, 2017 02:36 AM #124

Because they let the boys use the girls bathroom.

Mar 18, 2017 02:40 AM #125

@Hawk69 True

Mar 18, 2017 02:50 AM #126

Retracting all previous negative comments about Michigan State. Typical Izzo...ugh...

Mar 18, 2017 03:04 AM #127

@BShark they are playing as well as they have all year. Our guys will have their hands full.

Mar 18, 2017 03:07 AM #128

@HawkChamp

14 losses says otherwise to playing well all year. I think KU will win by about 8-10 but there are definitely days where it ends up being a loss.

Mar 18, 2017 03:21 AM #129

@Hawk69 I think we in SC just haven't prohibited local school districts or town from deciding for themselves how they want to address the issue. Not yet, at least--some are trying, though.

Meanwhile, in news of much less importance to our legislators, SC schools are now ranked 50th out of 50. Lead editorial cartoon today shows SC taking down the (joking) State Seal that reads "Thank God for Mississippi".

Mar 18, 2017 03:25 AM #130

Looks like it will be a Izzo, Self showdown. Hopefully our guys get to watch the first few minutes of this one. MSU got down 10 or 12 to zip, came back and won. It seems to me like everytime we lose to MSU we blow leads, 2 times in the champions classic and one in the sweet 16 in 09.

Mar 18, 2017 03:53 AM #131

@wissox they SC are taking care of business. How much due to venue do you think?

Mar 18, 2017 03:58 AM #132

SMU was a top pick to advance and didn't.

And upset to boot. Didn't USC have play in game on top of that?!

Mar 18, 2017 04:00 AM #133

@Bwag yes, providence

Mar 18, 2017 04:03 AM #134

Fair to say that 1st round pretty tame this year?

Mar 18, 2017 04:08 AM #135

Pulling for Kent St to hold UCLA under 100

Mar 18, 2017 04:09 AM #136

@Bwag watching kentucky

Mar 18, 2017 04:10 AM #137

@Crimsonorblue22 don't see NKy closing the gap?

Mar 18, 2017 04:11 AM #138

@Bwag no, closer than it should be.

Mar 18, 2017 04:12 AM #139

Liking our margin of victory

Mar 18, 2017 04:12 AM #140

Briscoe needs bigger shorts!

Mar 18, 2017 04:14 AM #141

Where is n Kentucky? Don't say north part!

Mar 18, 2017 04:15 AM #142

@Crimsonorblue22 said:

Briscoe needs bigger shorts!

Can't say I've paid attention. Should I?

Mar 18, 2017 04:15 AM #143

@Bwag looks like he could split em

Mar 18, 2017 04:15 AM #144

Monk played at my kids local HS

Mar 18, 2017 04:16 AM #145

@Bwag oh yeah, Arkansas. Do they still love him or dislike him?

Mar 18, 2017 04:17 AM #146

I tell you if UK plays like the second half here tonight, WSU may give them a run. They shouldn't talent wise. I know it was a tight one a few years ago but WSU had 3 of their all time best on that club. I think WSU is average this year maybe slightly above. The biggest surprise to me was Okie state getting beat but man did Michigan flat out shot the lights out of the building, 11 second half threes.

Mar 18, 2017 04:17 AM #147

@kjayhawks no d at all in that osu game!

Mar 18, 2017 04:21 AM #148

@Bwag To be honest I saw Marquette once this year and SC never so i have no clue. I'm sure the venue helped, and may provide a little boost against Duke.

Mar 18, 2017 04:23 AM #149

@Crimsonorblue22 so we are Jayhawks. My daughter that graduated in his class wasn't a fan.

Many of the Arkansas folks initially panned him for spurning UA. They are kinda like Kstate fans. Their semi-success has left them with an illusion of being royalty.

But now they follow him on the sly or openly. as one of their own.

Mar 18, 2017 04:24 AM #150

Anybody see Baylor play?

Mar 18, 2017 04:26 AM #151

@Crimsonorblue22 I saw some of the end of the first half at lunch I think.

Was glad to see they won going away.

The narrative at halftime was they have flamed in past years.

Mar 18, 2017 04:37 AM #152

As we are done with opening round here I think there really wasn't a normal number of upsets. All seeds 1-5 won besides Minnesota, which played a underseeded Middle Tennessee and were well over seeded themselves ( thought MT should've been a 10 and Minnesota a 8/9). Usually a 3 and or a 4 seed goes out in the first round. Kinda interesting...

Mar 18, 2017 04:45 AM #153

And South Carolina gets their 1st tournament win since I was a HS junior in 1973. Bill Walton's junior year in college and the second of his championships at UCLA. Nixon was fighting Watergate investigations, but would last over 16 months.

The Royals were considering a young 3rd baseman to replace Paul Schaal, but sent him to the minors until August that year, when he was brought up. He only batted .125, though, so none of us knew we were awaiting the beginning of George Brett's Hall of Fame career.

A long freakin' time since SC won a game, which was back when they were still an independent after leaving the ACC -- but they were coached by Frank even back then, McGuire, that is.

@Crimsonorblue22 I watched the Baylor game. They didn't play great in the first half. Definitely had me nervous as I have them going to the sweet 16

@Crimsonorblue22 Your fav coach demonstrated how classy a human he is after last nights win.

@dylans I don't see the problem there. Many people thought WSU was likely underseeded, so of course that punishes the team they play, too. Should have been a weekend matchup.

@mayjay 🤦‍♂️

@dylans That just came up as two squares with diagonals? Looks like Division or Battalion markers on a military battlefield map.

You must use an ipad or iphone. My android doesn't show those. Now I know what all those squares have meant. Glad to frustrate everyone!

@mayjay I need that statue for my front yard. I live in KSU wildcat country.

@dylans

Very unfair to both teams. WSU was a true 5-6 seed and should have been playing a 11-12 seed and not a 7. Likewise, Dayton got royally screwed, instead of playing a true 10 seed the had to play a higher seed.

@JayHawkFanToo He's so humble and gracious in victory as well as defeat. Classy guy!
