Mar 06, 2019 02:03 AM #2

Och

Mar 06, 2019 02:03 AM #3

Hey, where'd everyone go?

Mar 06, 2019 02:04 AM #4

Franny's dream game. KU could lose the B12 conference for the first time since 2005. NOT TONIGHT, FRAN.

Mar 06, 2019 02:04 AM #5

Dave has to make that short little shot. So frustrating

Mar 06, 2019 02:04 AM #6

Turnaround J in the lane. Be nice to make those.

Mar 06, 2019 02:05 AM #7

Frans fired up for historic pm for streak to end

Mar 06, 2019 02:05 AM #8

@wissox Fat Tuesday perhaps?

Mar 06, 2019 02:05 AM #9

Can’t leave maniac

Mar 06, 2019 02:05 AM #10

This looks lackadasical on both ends

Mar 06, 2019 02:06 AM #11

Gotta make easy buckets

Mar 06, 2019 02:06 AM #12

Yet another Grimes weak-ass drive - falls away and throws up a prayer rather than trying to draw contact...

Mar 06, 2019 02:07 AM #13

Find shooters

Mar 06, 2019 02:07 AM #14

Good start

For Oklahoma

Mar 06, 2019 02:07 AM #15

OU peaking early

Mar 06, 2019 02:07 AM #16

Bricked an open 3

Mar 06, 2019 02:07 AM #17

Bill Self has set a records for TO's before the first TV timeout this season.

Mar 06, 2019 02:07 AM #18

Dont know why it posted 4 times but it was fine in the end. Zero energy and give a damn outta the boys in blue on the road again. I'm picking us to lose first round

Mar 06, 2019 02:09 AM #26

@kjayhawks I thought it was effective with the repetition!

Mar 06, 2019 02:09 AM #27

Final Four

Mar 06, 2019 02:10 AM #28

We start slow EVERY game

Mar 06, 2019 02:10 AM #29

Hard to watch this right now...

Mar 06, 2019 02:11 AM #30

Fran's line for the night "Final Four run"

Mar 06, 2019 02:12 AM #31

Our 3 pt attempts aren't anywhere closing to going in...

Mar 06, 2019 02:12 AM #32

OU getting cocky now and bricking shots

Mar 06, 2019 02:13 AM #33

Wow, this team looks ready to give up the streak right now.

Mar 06, 2019 02:13 AM #34

Marcus Garrett doesnt need to be standing on the perimeter...offers nothing

Mar 06, 2019 02:13 AM #35

Flop

Mar 06, 2019 02:13 AM #36

This lineup is embarrassing

Mar 06, 2019 02:14 AM #37

Wea ass play Rewarded by weak ass reffing

Mar 06, 2019 02:14 AM #38

@Woodrow I'm not embarrassed.

Mar 06, 2019 02:14 AM #39

Looks like these guy already quit, on to next season.

Mar 06, 2019 02:14 AM #40

KJ is in suck mode

32 minutes left. There's plenty of time.

Mar 06, 2019 02:15 AM #44

There's more of that stellar perimeter D.

Mar 06, 2019 02:15 AM #45

No effort at all tonight zero!

Mar 06, 2019 02:15 AM #46

I don't get nervous til the last minute

Mar 06, 2019 02:15 AM #47

Some of the most pathetic basketball I've seen

Mar 06, 2019 02:16 AM #48

@BeddieKU23 6 turnovers already...

Mar 06, 2019 02:16 AM #49

@BeddieKU23 EVER?

Mar 06, 2019 02:16 AM #50

lol

wissox said:

May be way over by then...if this continues

Mar 06, 2019 02:17 AM #52

I remember when we did this to UNC in the Final 4 in 2008.

Mar 06, 2019 02:17 AM #53

It's not fun when its the other side

Mar 06, 2019 02:17 AM #54

As this game started....I felt like we didn't have much to play for....compared to previous years, that is. yes...seeding is important and this game would help. But it seems like the players feel the same way.

Mar 06, 2019 02:17 AM #55

@BeddieKU23 True, the stakes are smaller right now however.

Mar 06, 2019 02:17 AM #56

DanR said:

@BeddieKU23 EVER?

Depends on if YMCA topped this or the tech game recently

Mar 06, 2019 02:18 AM #57

Darn, I was hoping they'd start showing gymnastics instead of this.

Mar 06, 2019 02:18 AM #58

I think some fans are projecting their own feelings and emotions. I'm pretty sure the players want to win this more than any of us do.

Mar 06, 2019 02:18 AM #59

Can we do a running clock

Mar 06, 2019 02:19 AM #60

This feels like an OU - KU football game...

Mar 06, 2019 02:19 AM #61

Yay, 16-0 run over.

Mar 06, 2019 02:20 AM #62

Maybe they will get 10 points in 10 minutes. Small goals

Mar 06, 2019 02:20 AM #63

We're going to make a game of it.

Mar 06, 2019 02:20 AM #64

We scored

Mar 06, 2019 02:20 AM #65

@DanR doesn't look like they care at all, never does laziness=give a damn.

Mar 06, 2019 02:21 AM #66

Some good shots being put up

Mar 06, 2019 02:21 AM #67

And none of them by the team we are rooting for

Mar 06, 2019 02:21 AM #68

@DanR KU is in suck mode.

Mar 06, 2019 02:21 AM #69

First bucket in about 8 minutes...

Mar 06, 2019 02:21 AM #70

Might guard Manek

Mar 06, 2019 02:21 AM #71

At least we can't blame the refs.

Mar 06, 2019 02:21 AM #72

Don't let maniac catch the ball

Mar 06, 2019 02:22 AM #73

Appropriately, I think I'll watch some recorded episodes of "What on Earth?"

Mar 06, 2019 02:23 AM #74

Don't care about a bank shot, Grimes needs to see shots fall even if they're lucky shots.

Mar 06, 2019 02:23 AM #75

Close the gap...then lets steal it in @wissox last minute

Mar 06, 2019 02:23 AM #76

I still think we're going to win this. If we're going to be on the short end of a 16-0 run, I'm OK with it if it's in the first half.

Mar 06, 2019 02:24 AM #77

Bwag said:

Or in the first 5 minutes of 2nd half and run away...I'm not choosy

Mar 06, 2019 02:24 AM #78

Not a charge

Mar 06, 2019 02:24 AM #79

I feel like Dotsons outside shot has regressed

Mar 06, 2019 02:25 AM #80

Of course if I'm OU I'm looking at empty sections in the stands and thinking what the heck fans, where are you? Of course, Fran runs his mouth. That was so NOT a charge.

Mar 06, 2019 02:25 AM #81

Garrett needs to take a break on the bench

Mar 06, 2019 02:25 AM #82

The spirit of Marcus Smart lives strong in this OU team

Mar 06, 2019 02:26 AM #83

Fran how bout some Jayhawks?

Mar 06, 2019 02:26 AM #84

We have 1 TO left.

Mar 06, 2019 02:26 AM #85

Back to the pits

Mar 06, 2019 02:26 AM #86

I was feeling good when we cut it to 8....right back to 12

Mar 06, 2019 02:27 AM #87

Baby steps

Mar 06, 2019 02:27 AM #88

After he runs out of timeouts should he just pick a fight

Mar 06, 2019 02:27 AM #89

Dedric apparantly is gonna just throw up guarded 3s....

wissox said:

Most Big 12 schools should thank their lucky stars that KU is in their conference, otherwise it'd be crickets in the stands for EVERY home game.

Mar 06, 2019 02:28 AM #91

Plus they gave tickets away

Mar 06, 2019 02:28 AM #92

@nwhawkfan True, it's not that great of an attendance conference. Too many football schools.

Mar 06, 2019 02:29 AM #93

Now I get it - HCBS is doing Kruger a solid - knows the conference streak is over and is handing OU a win that's necessary for them to make the tourney...

Mar 06, 2019 02:29 AM #94

Self should be on the trail looking for a dead eye shooter. Even if that’s all that person can do. Just someone I mean anyone that can shoot.

BeddieKU23 said:

use technicals to talk to your team?

Mar 06, 2019 02:29 AM #96

I quit worrying about timeouts the day Roy Williams left for North Carolina. That guy was obsessed with them. I never worried about timeouts before Roy. Bill doesn't use them at the end of the game anyway.

Mar 06, 2019 02:29 AM #97

This is the laziest team to ever play at kansas.

Mar 06, 2019 02:29 AM #98

Hard to make a run when you miss layups

Mar 06, 2019 02:30 AM #100

3 layups missed...

Mar 06, 2019 02:30 AM #101

I know ESPN has to know how much fans hate that split screen they go to to show the most pointless info.

Mar 06, 2019 02:31 AM #102

This KU team just can't shoot.

Mar 06, 2019 02:31 AM #103

Lol. That was our run. We cut it to 8.

Mar 06, 2019 02:32 AM #104

Baylor won by 30 here

Mar 06, 2019 02:32 AM #105

Big Dave not lawson

Mar 06, 2019 02:32 AM #106

Dont worry we are only down 17

Mar 06, 2019 02:32 AM #107

Congratulations Big12. You beat our JV team to break our streak.

Mar 06, 2019 02:32 AM #108

Clear the bench Bill, 3 damn times in a row we get beat up the floor. Lazy lazy, I'm out if can show any heart please everyone transfer

Mar 06, 2019 02:33 AM #109

If Bill uses all his TO's in first half does he get a full suite for the second/

Mar 06, 2019 02:33 AM #110

Stone cold

Mar 06, 2019 02:33 AM #111

Heat check we might score

Mar 06, 2019 02:33 AM #112

Beating a dead horse but KU is now

7-21 2-11

....

Mar 06, 2019 02:34 AM #113

They haven't doubled us up...yet

Mar 06, 2019 02:34 AM #114

Nope just 1

Mar 06, 2019 02:34 AM #115

BAD SHOT CHUCK

Mar 06, 2019 02:34 AM #116

Down 16...we got this

Mar 06, 2019 02:35 AM #117

Charlie not afraid to shoot

Mar 06, 2019 02:35 AM #118

Moore is like I gotta get on this action. I have a low field goal % to keep up

Mar 06, 2019 02:35 AM #119

@BShark We're now 2-13 from 3pt and one of those was a lucky bank shot...

Mar 06, 2019 02:35 AM #120

Only 6 points away from Texas tech

Mar 06, 2019 02:36 AM #121

@Bwag They did double us up when it was 36-18

Mar 06, 2019 02:36 AM #122

Dedric scored.

kjayhawks said:

Roy did that once early in the game...yanked all the starters and put in the bench. Starters got the message and won the game. Don't know if that would work on these guys.

Mar 06, 2019 02:36 AM #124

But we're winning the PF and RB margins

Mar 06, 2019 02:36 AM #125

Jesus, Grimes, force some contact

Mar 06, 2019 02:37 AM #126

Grimes has not turned a corner

Mar 06, 2019 02:37 AM #127

That was a turnover waiting to happen

Mar 06, 2019 02:37 AM #128

@Woodrow

2 games is a lot to ask

Mar 06, 2019 02:37 AM #129

Gma could've picked that off

Mar 06, 2019 02:37 AM #130

This team just can't play away from AFH.

Mar 06, 2019 02:38 AM #131

@Texas-Hawk-10 freshmen. They're pretty good, but still babes

Mar 06, 2019 02:38 AM #132

@Crimsonorblue22 Not my gma

Mar 06, 2019 02:38 AM #133

Afraid to take it to the hole

Mar 06, 2019 02:38 AM #134

Gotta love dedrick effort on d

Mar 06, 2019 02:38 AM #135

Wow grimes! Layups passing😞

Mar 06, 2019 02:38 AM #136

Self got a free timeout

Mar 06, 2019 02:39 AM #137

Only down 17

Mar 06, 2019 02:39 AM #138

@wissox it would've knocked her over

Mar 06, 2019 02:39 AM #139

Remember back in the day when we beat Tennessee and Michigan State?

Mar 06, 2019 02:39 AM #140

We are so gonna score at least one bucket before half

Mar 06, 2019 02:40 AM #141

OU did score 92 their last game against a depleted WVU, but other than that they haven't scored more than 74 pts in a B12 game this year - but we are making them look an offensive powerhouse...

Mar 06, 2019 02:40 AM #142

@wissox doke!

Mar 06, 2019 02:40 AM #143

@Crimsonorblue22 And good LG Vick

Mar 06, 2019 02:40 AM #144

The whole world is celebrating!😭😡

Mar 06, 2019 02:41 AM #145

We're shooting 29% OU is shooting 60%

Frankly, it could be worse.

Mar 06, 2019 02:41 AM #146

We're looking at a dreaded 5-vs-12 seed matchup in the tournament

Mar 06, 2019 02:41 AM #147

Our luck, isu and ou win sat.

Mar 06, 2019 02:42 AM #148

Fran throw Seth under the bus

Mar 06, 2019 02:42 AM #149

Mitch only takes charges wth

Mar 06, 2019 02:42 AM #150

@Crimsonorblue22 then we can still TIE. We're not losing this one.

Mar 06, 2019 02:43 AM #151

I'm more upset with Vick than anything this season. He just totally let this team down and his coach who gave him a 2nd chance. He could have acted like a senior who helped a team to the FF.

Mar 06, 2019 02:43 AM #152

Go!

Mar 06, 2019 02:43 AM #153

stop then a 3 and go into the half down by ten?

Mar 06, 2019 02:43 AM #154

Down 13

Mar 06, 2019 02:44 AM #155

D dot the wall?

Mar 06, 2019 02:44 AM #156

Are you serious Dotson. That’s awful.

Mar 06, 2019 02:44 AM #157

It could be worse

Mar 06, 2019 02:45 AM #158

Now they left us just intrigued enough to watch the 2nd half

Mar 06, 2019 02:45 AM #159

Still in it. Need to get the shooting average around 50% for the second half.

Mar 06, 2019 02:46 AM #160

Yeah, I've missed two of the last three games, and was really excited to watch and chat with y'all and then it's this bad. The chat is good though. My wife noticed I'm barely yelling at the TV. Nothing to yell at.

Mar 06, 2019 02:53 AM #161

@wissox This is pretty much what the OSU game looked like too. Really bad shooting for KU in the first half again.

Mar 06, 2019 02:56 AM #162

Expecting a KU run to start the half. Down 6 with 10 to play. Rock Chalk.

Mar 06, 2019 02:57 AM #163

Dotson, Ochai, Grimes: 3 of 14

Mar 06, 2019 02:58 AM #164

Well, I think our uniforms look nice.

Mar 06, 2019 02:58 AM #165

@DanR Ochai has been woefully short on every 3 he has taken.

Mar 06, 2019 02:59 AM #166

@Woodrow Is he hurt? He seems really off.

Mar 06, 2019 02:59 AM #167

A win tonight might have pushed us up a couple of spots. UK struggling and Purdue about to lose.

Mar 06, 2019 03:00 AM #168

@joeloveshawks I feel the same...but I also think it could be a manek 3, Lawson missed bunny, buddy heild lite 3, grimes clank, and some layup...and dowe by 21...but the good news is we would be out of tos and the pain suffering will end quicker

Mar 06, 2019 03:00 AM #169

@DanR I hate excuses, but it could just simply be the Freshman wall since he started so late. He’s had a rough 2-3 weeks

Mar 06, 2019 03:01 AM #170

Second half prediction: We'll foul more and Bill forces the play through Dedric every offensive possession. I hope he's up for it.

Mar 06, 2019 03:03 AM #171

I'm wondering if the streak ending will actually make this team play better in the B12 and NCAA Tournaments because there won't be much pressure on this team and the expectations won't be sky high like normal.

Mar 06, 2019 03:03 AM #172

Dedric has no business guarding Manek. Every time he switched on him, Manek drained a three. So ... hope that doesn't happen second half!

Mar 06, 2019 03:03 AM #173

Jeez

Mar 06, 2019 03:04 AM #174

@Kcmatt7 ESPN is so bad. I go to their website to see what you mean about the Purdue game. I click on NCAAM and it shows three top 20 womens games going on!

Mar 06, 2019 03:05 AM #175

Maniac can shoot but not a stud, stick w/him

Mar 06, 2019 03:05 AM #176

They can’t even must a run or any game pressure on OU

Mar 06, 2019 03:06 AM #177

I always wanted to get fouled and fall into the laps of the cheerleaders (don't tell my wife)

Mar 06, 2019 03:06 AM #178

Defense is nonexistent tonight. They’re turning misses into layups

Mar 06, 2019 03:06 AM #179

3-20 from 3

Mar 06, 2019 03:06 AM #180

What was that?

Mar 06, 2019 03:07 AM #181

And they’re just daring us to shoot. Because why wouldn’t you?

Mar 06, 2019 03:07 AM #182

We're the team everyone wants to face in March.

Mar 06, 2019 03:07 AM #183

what happened to Garrett

Mar 06, 2019 03:08 AM #184

See man see ball?

Mar 06, 2019 03:08 AM #185

@wissox we're good on neutral courts!

With Doke

Mar 06, 2019 03:09 AM #186

This team is ripe for the 5 /12 upset

Mar 06, 2019 03:10 AM #187

Winning on the road is fools gold.

Mar 06, 2019 03:10 AM #188

@Woodrow slow down, man. One loss at a time!

Mar 06, 2019 03:11 AM #189

This team is historically bad on the road considering we are likely to finish undefeated at home this season...

Mar 06, 2019 03:11 AM #190

If the committee based our tourney resume solely on the body of work since Dokes injury we shouldn't even make the dance

Mar 06, 2019 03:11 AM #191

Paging DOTSON. DOTSON? DOTSON?

Mar 06, 2019 03:11 AM #192

Technically the streak was still alive win this game began. The effort and energy this team came out with is a embarrassment to the KU program. If I was a former player I would be pissed off.

However, when you don’t really have any players that have bought into the program ( sans Mitch) not sure what you can expect.

Mar 06, 2019 03:12 AM #193

@Woodrow well, you're not a former player, so relax

Mar 06, 2019 03:13 AM #194

@Woodrow You can’t tell me Ochai doesn’t care. Nor that Dotson doesn’t try.

Mar 06, 2019 03:13 AM #195

The first time I tuned in it was 23-7. The second time it was 52-35. My blood pressure is fine, I won't turn back again. Good luck in the tournament boys.

Mar 06, 2019 03:13 AM #196

@dylans are you watching?

Mar 06, 2019 03:14 AM #198

This is turning into a cerealistic nightmare.

Mar 06, 2019 03:14 AM #199

Yeah, this team just sucks without Dok. Dedrick is a great trashman, but can’t carry a team as the primary option.

Mar 06, 2019 03:14 AM #200

Dedric might end up with 50 and the guards 10

Mar 06, 2019 03:15 AM #201

Fire the coach, hire Les Miles. (oh sorry, thought I was watching the football team for a second)

Mar 06, 2019 03:16 AM #202

@Woodrow If you want to sell me on Grimes not trying I’ll bite, but not those two.

Lots of time left. We’ll see how it plays out.

Mar 06, 2019 03:17 AM #204

@Woodrow you don't think d dot, big Dave doke, Marcus, none of then has bought in to our program? Ochai

Mar 06, 2019 03:18 AM #205

Just down 5 minus 15! Let's go!

Mar 06, 2019 03:18 AM #206

@Crimsonorblue22 frustrated fans everywhere want to know wtf?!? Lol we’re spoiled!!!

Mar 06, 2019 03:18 AM #207

Only dedric shoots from now on....the rest of the season included

Mar 06, 2019 03:19 AM #208

6-0 run!

Mar 06, 2019 03:19 AM #209

@Crimsonorblue22 No. I don’t think Freshman have enough equity to buy in yet. If they did you wouldn’t see this effort. This team can’t shoot, but defense is all effort and this team is exerting none.

Mar 06, 2019 03:19 AM #210

looked like a good block by Dedric

Mar 06, 2019 03:20 AM #211

That is the first time ever I have seen self just sit there when the team is coming to the bench

Mar 06, 2019 03:22 AM #212

Could you imagine this team in an alternate universe where KT seals the deal (legally) and Dok is healthy? How would you like to guard Dok and Zion?

Mar 06, 2019 03:23 AM #213

that was the worst series coming out of a time out that I have ever seen from a Bill Self team. Period

Mar 06, 2019 03:24 AM #214

He said he was embarrassed earlier in the game. I'm never embarrassed being a fan of a team that has won 14 titles in a row, has been a #1 seed every season seemingly for half a decade, has defeated this years #1 team, has a HOF coach, etc. etc. and it takes a major injury, a trusted senior flaking out on us, the NCAA screwing us out of one of our best players to make us lose our streak. Not embarrassing. Bad luck? Maybe. But no one is to blame here. And oh, one other non embarrassing thing. This team will play in its 30th NCAA tournament in a row, and barring an upset, will win it's 28th out of 30 first round games during that streak. Of course, it won't be embarrassing either when once again 16,300 fans show up Saturday and give them a rousing ovation for the great accomplishment of all these years.

Mar 06, 2019 03:25 AM #215

@wissox I guess this has been the most "embarrassing" season for KU fans in 15 years. Stay classy. Don't storm the court when we beat KSU and TTech at home next year.

Mar 06, 2019 03:25 AM #218

How bad does Doke want to play right now? :muscle_tone4:

@Woodrow not enough equity to buy in? I submit the name Josh Jackson

Mar 06, 2019 03:26 AM #221

I'm definitely embarrassed by this performance. Why wouldn't you be? It's ridiculous. It's one thing to have sub standard talent. It's quite another to lack effort. And another yet for it to plainly obvious this team has zero fundamentals whatsoever. Wtf do we work on in practice? Our suntan? When you don't have superior talent you focus on controllable things.... Fundamentals, defense, rebounding. And actually playing hard. It's beyond embarrassing that this team has failed to develop one of those items on a consistent basis. Completely thottled by a goddamn bubble team.

Mar 06, 2019 03:32 AM #243

Correct. This team has zero identity. It doesn’t do anything great. It has nothing to use as it’s crutch.

@kjayhawks if one mf'er on this team was paid 1 cent then the entirety of the staff should be shit canned. Tonight

Mar 06, 2019 03:34 AM #251

It seemed like the team had something to play for. Sure, OU got off to a hot start, but this team seems to have no resiliency. In their defense, it is a young team.

As good as D Lawson is, he doesn't seem to be the leader that is needed to take a team on his shoulders the way others have.

Mar 06, 2019 03:44 AM #285

@wissox because as a fan I don't like to accept getting beat by a worse team that simply plays harder, focused more on the task at hand. And hell yes. Just plain wanted to win more. And make zero mistake. That is 100% absolutely what has happened tonight. And on several other occasions this season that has absolutely caused the end of the streak. Not bullshit excuses about being 5 for whatever from 3 or this guy's was out .. waaaa waaaa waaaa. The ncaa screwed us. Blah blah blah. Getting hammered by 20 plus all night to a terrible team. That's right. Terrible... Not even a remotely good basketball team. I have pride in teams that play hard and overachieve I.E. 2012... And thus will be realistic about the opposite type of team. Hence. Embarrassed

@wissox we're all entitled to our own view bud. I respect you. But I don't buy that at all. You think Bill had top ten talent at Tulsa and Oral Roberts? How did he take those teams so far? It wasn't talent. It was fundamentals, defense, and effort. I don't care if this team loses. I'm not embarrassed by losing. It speaks to the character of team, the players, and the coaches to lose in that manner. That's my view

Mar 06, 2019 03:52 AM #297

8 assists on 27 made FG. This team is easy to defend when they don't share the ball like tonight. It's been a problem all season for KU. They have very seldom assisted on 50% or more of their made FG's this year.

When that happens, it makes a team extremely easy to defend because there is no ball movement.

Very very proud of the streak. It was a phenomenal run. It's sad to see it end by losing to subpar teams rather than someone who is just plain better. But even more sad to see that it will probably actually end a year shy for ncaa violations.

Mar 06, 2019 03:56 AM #302

Gotta get Dotson back on track and see what will happen in the tourney(s). With these freshmen, I'm just going to enjoy what's left of the season. Big Dave is coming along. Keep in mind, we would probably have at least 5 more losses if this was our team from day one (No Doke, No Vick)

Mar 06, 2019 03:57 AM #303

@cragarhawk we are a subpar team, dude. Not a subpar PROGRAM, but this particular team has 4 freshman starters.

Mar 06, 2019 03:57 AM #304

Welp, I stand by them when they win and I'll stand by them when they lose.

They need to find their mojo soon if they want to find some silver linings in this season. I'll keep watching and hoping there's a rabbit up Self's sleeve.

Mar 06, 2019 03:57 AM #305

Jay Williams gave KU a standing ovation for the streak. First time I can remember KU getting a non-condescending standing O after an ass whoopin’

Mar 06, 2019 04:02 AM #306

I think the most frustrating thing is this team just never really got better as the tear went on. Clearly Dave is becoming more comfortable and has improved, but I’d make a argument that Grimes, Dotson, and Ochai have regressed as the season ( short season with Ochai) has gone on. That is just extremely out of character for a Self coached team.

I just don’t remember a team as fragile under Self. Obviously there is a lot going on around the program right now and I’m sure that’s part of it, but hoping up flat tonight with all that was on the line was sad to see.

cragarhawk said:

I see what you mean, but if we are losing to subpar teams, then it means we built the streak by beating subpar teams. True, it's not the ACC or B10, but dissing the other teams unintentionally degrades the accomplishment.

If I'm not mistaken, of all the teams in the B12, OU is the only other that has reached the Final Four... They have a great coach. Yeah, their record isn't great, but their SOS is 10th.

We are not an experienced team this year. We're going to finish 3rd or so.. It is what it is.

Mar 06, 2019 04:04 AM #308

@DanR we are subpar to the normfor this program yes. But we are not subpar to several of the teams we've lost to. Not even from a talent stand point. Look it up....

We lack many qualities that good teams have, talent not withstanding, but have failed to harness the controllable qualities of what makes a good TEAM.

4 freshman? Really? Sorry but that's an awful excuse. Look around the country sir... Clear back to the fab five.... And before anyone says "but they were paid" people who live in glass houses shouldn't throw stones

Mar 06, 2019 04:08 AM #309

@bskeet no that isn't what it means. The streak was definitely accomplished by scratching and clawing for years against some stiff competition. And vs teams with players of the year and so on. It is not to diminish what's been done. It's how that actually was done. Lots and lots of effort. Which you didn't see largely this season. That's the point.

I mean seriously? This OU team is actually better than KU this season? And by 20 points? West Virginia is better than KU this season? Uh... No sir

Mar 06, 2019 04:10 AM #310

Our 4 frosh are pretty comparable to the fab 5🤔

Mar 06, 2019 04:11 AM #311

Well, the evidence suggests we are a Jekyll and Hyde team.

At home things we can look great; on the road, we are not good... possibly bad.

But we will see soon enough how we perform on a neutral floor.

Mar 06, 2019 04:13 AM #313

On the bright side, since the streak is over, the rest of the Big 12 will not "want it more" for the next 15 years. They can have their one-game home season championship against KU and then forget about the rest of the year.

Mar 06, 2019 04:15 AM #314

Woodrow said:

Technically the streak was still alive win this game began. The effort and energy this team came out with is a embarrassment to the KU program. If I was a former player I would be pissed off.

However, when you don’t really have any players that have bought into the program ( sans Mitch) not sure what you can expect.

?s=21

Mar 06, 2019 04:17 AM #315

Such a funny saying for something you don't believe exists. Even though it's proven over and over again throughout time. SMH. You think wanting it more is a cliche? Or damn me... Could it possibly mean doing more of the things that actual win... Focus, effort, energy, scouting, practice, fundamentals.... Things of that sort. Nah surely those things don't matter. If I work harder than you that absolutely can't mean that I want it more. Lol. Ridiculous

Mar 06, 2019 04:18 AM #316

Also, teams shot out of their minds against us this year. It's happened in passed years too, but it seems like every other game our opponent gets into the "can't-miss-from-3" zone and someone has a career night.. Maybe that's because our defense is bad, but maybe it's a bit of bad luck too.

Mar 06, 2019 04:19 AM #317

@bskeet it's both but let us not forget that chance favors the prepared mind.

Mar 06, 2019 04:19 AM #318

@cragarhawk If you're replying to me, yes, I think "want it more" is the stupidest cliche in sports. I've pointed out a few actual reasons why we played poorly, but if you think it's just that OU "wanted it more" then go be a coach and scream that at kids.

Mar 06, 2019 04:24 AM #319

@cragarhawk I agree that chance favors the prepared mind.

I think @DanR equates "want it more" to doing all it takes to win, including having "a prepared mind". It didn't look like we were fully prepared for this game.

That's a rarity in the Bill Self era. I saw a few Roy Williams teams show up like that and he would call a time out, scream "dad-gum-it" and sub out all five starters.

Mar 06, 2019 04:25 AM #320

@DanR I have coached plenty of kids, most of which would tell you they miss having me as a coach. It isn't about screaming. It's about getting the maximum potential out of them. We beat and competed with a helluva lot of teams that had way more talent than us. I suppose it was just luck by your standards. Or then there's that other option. We simply worked harder. Talent without effort will not beat effort with a purpose.

If that's not a thing... Then why the cliche Grande's every year "KU is everyone's Superbowl" "we always get everyone's best shot" blah blah blah bullshit. What does that mean if not that? It means they tried to work harder and work as hard as they could to beat us cause we're KU. Not "oh we bottled all of our luck up all year for this one game". I mean wth

Mar 06, 2019 04:26 AM #321

It’s not even debatable that many times this year on the road KU came out flat, no energy, not prepared, etc...

Mar 06, 2019 04:29 AM #322

Idk how to help anyone that thinks me working hard than them can't yield a more positive result. I mean that's the guy that shows up late to work, stands around half the day, and does nothing to improve his situation bitching about the neighbor who has a new truck, a nice house, a hot wife, and kids that aren't fuckups cause he actually has put effort into his life.

Mar 06, 2019 04:31 AM #323

@bskeet I equate "want it more" with fans complaining, that's it.

I've never heard a player from any sport say, "well, I really didn't care about this game. I'm just here to get my degree in art history. I guess they just wanted it more." Goes off to smoke some weed.

Mar 06, 2019 04:36 AM #324

Anyone that thinks this KU team plays hard should be checked into a mental hospital. Simple question: Teams that are playing hard seldom get beat down the floor? True or False? We got beat down the floor for layups at least 10 times tonight.

Mar 06, 2019 04:42 AM #325

@DanR so you actually watched the game tonight. Decided that the KU players "wanted to win" as much as the OU players and then dismissed the result as OU was simply a better conglomeration of players. A better team. Is that right? Wow

Mar 06, 2019 04:45 AM #326

I'll damn well be the first one on here saying our kids are playing their hearts out on the nights they do. So no. "Wanting it more" is absolutely not just something for fans to complain about. It's absolutely real. And it translates to everything in life. Far beyond basketball

@cragarhawk I'm not going to play the rhetorical game beyond this. I've said repeatedly that "wanting it more" means jack sh*t to players. It's a fan thing. Fans want it. They don't earn it. They don't work for it.

Did KState play hard in Lawrence last weekend? It looked like they were playing pretty hard to me. They probably even wanted it more (big goal for the season to beat KU at Lawrence). They might even have more talent and definitely more experience. How did they lose? It just makes no sense! Clearly "wanting it more" means nothing. Nothing.

@DanR KSU stood around on offense and didnt move the ball so no I dont call that playing hard. OU shot well yes but if KU just hustled down the floor to prevent wide open dunks and layups (which would've lessen that%) they would've had a chance to win. Read Jarred Hasse's book floor burns and watch tape of him then rewatch this game, I'll bet you'll change your mind. No team plays hard all 40 but playing hard for 4 wont win anything this time of year.

Oklahoma had some decent players before the Trae Young circus came to town. Lon's a Hall of Fame coach. Can't win em all.

Mar 06, 2019 05:57 AM #330

@kjayhawks 10 times? For dunks or layups? Hmm . Bout 20 points there huh. Interesting.... Must have been sheer luck.

I mean if I was playing idk... Defense, and wanted to actually give effort I may have tried to stop the ball or get back in defensive position. But clearly wanting to do that isn't a thing. Obviously I should stand there like a bottle of piss and let luck and divine providence handle the outcome without trying to create a different result.

Mar 06, 2019 06:01 AM #331

@cragarhawk I know right? The players cant control running back on defense. Wide open layups and dunks are like roulette, who knows where they are gonna end up.

Mar 06, 2019 06:05 AM #332

@kjayhawks ya remember. Forrest Gump had it all along. Basketball is like a box of chocolates... You never what you're gonna get. So just be there and let the chips fall where they may. If you just do that... Somehow you'll be an elite program by the grace of God or something. Don't try. That's shits overrated. It really doesn't affect anything

I honestly get the feeling we dont win again til November. I could be wrong but I just don't see it happening.

Ahh, bitch-slapped by Oklahoma. How nice.
For those of you not paying close attention, this is an Oklahoma team that lost at home to Baylor by 30.
At the very least this team should be able to put up a fight on the road.
I laughed the first play of the game when Dedric gave up a baseline dunk for lack of give a shit.

— Grimes should feel lucky if he hits the rim from deep. There’s simply no telling where his shot will go.

— Ochai has hit the wall.

— We would have a chance most games if Dedric could start hot.

— Big Freaking Dave with an awesome left handed post move hook in the lane!!! Loved that.

— Big Dave is not a good rebounder yet. He needs some Hudy time.

— Grimes the Giant Pussy, Example 799: three minutes left in the first half...open (ish) lane on left of the rim for a dunk...weak, missed toss up layup thingy. Fail.

— Doolittle, player of the year! Oh, wait, no. Hmmm.

— Manek, player of the year! Oh, wait, no. Hmmm.

— OU was smokin hot early, and KU was ice cold.

— I kept thinking if we could get it to 10 by half or the 10 min mark, we had a chance.

— More Chris Teahan!

— seriously, why not more Chris Teahan? It’s not like he could be worse on defense, right? Vick played no D. Shoot the rock!

— I guess this is what happens to a team with four freshman starters.

— I know I’m currently blue, but I don’t see next year being much better.

— I would not be sad if anybody but Dotson and Ochai left this team.

— I remember way back in the day when OU came to town, me and my buddy would sneak down from the stands to check out the OU cheerleaders in the hallway. Smokeshows galore! A sight to see back then! :)’

— our defense needs work, or effort.

— The Streak is over...

One team played for their tournament life- the other cake walked it.

Mar 06, 2019 08:27 PM #336

The guy that covers our local sports here and has been for 40 years, a KU grad and fan, said that was the most dead man walking team he had ever seen at KU. He said their body language before tip looked like a team that didn't want to be there at all.

Mar 06, 2019 09:12 PM #337

@DanR I would really disagree. The "wanting it more" thing is really related effort and desire. Showing that in your play. It's what Roy used to refer to as "want to." It's evident with teams in dugouts, on the sidelines, and on the bench. Different teams have different character. This team is what @kjayhawks just mentioned when referencing a sports talk guy -- they looked like dead men walking. They really do sometimes. It's a state of mind. It's why coach Self tries to instill effort first and foremost. That guides the ship.

But I know what you're saying, I think. That our guys, in their minds, may really want it too. But it's the objective display that is really telling.

Mar 06, 2019 09:15 PM #338

@DanR I disagree with you but I still you like you ole friend

Mar 06, 2019 09:25 PM #339

I mean, part of it is that this team just doesn't have anyone good enough yet to lean on. Dedric is good. But he's not T-Rob good. Dotson isn't Sherron (yet). This team has nobody good enough to be a de facto leader. A closer. Someone who, when we get punched in the mouth, is capable of punching back.

This team is just simply missing that leader. I think they WANT to win. I think they try hard. I didn't once think that the team last night wasn't trying. They were just not good, and everything compounded upon on itself. A missed 3 with a long rebound was basically an outlet pass. And we had like 17 of those. We had a few nice drives, only to not see them go in the basket and that miss turned into a 4 on 3 break routinely. Conversely, they made shots, which forced us in to half court sets. We missed shots. They got the ball. And that was the cycle for the entire game. We couldn't finish a layup, much less hit a jumper. And, no matter how hard you try on defense, if the offense isn't there sometimes it doesn't matter.

But, again, I never thought anything about effort. I just thought "We kind of just plain suck at basketball."

Thought it was interesting the announcers talking last night and saying that the Oklahoma radio guy heard that the athletic dept at Oklahoma had gotten a message from EVERY Big 12 school wishing them luck to end the streak. - mercy some envious sniveling little Bitches out there - -to that I say - Hate the player - -no the game
