Basically never happens in basketball wow.

If you look at how SEC teams like LSU, Georgia, Auburn, Arkansas & Alabama have been able to recruit the past 3-4 years you will soon realize recruiting is still dirty
Very much not complicated.
This is why recruiting didn't change much for LSU despite their allegations. Still believe KU is mostly unaffected. Some kids do care but not many. The main thing is HC stability. Look at Louisville and Arizona. One bad recruiting year then when things were stabilized, boom it picks back up.
I do think it's likely Kendall Brown and KJ Adams flip flopped due to the situation. This might even end up working out for KU. With Nolan Hickman, Kentucky decided they wanted him. Do we really think the situation at KU matters for that? It SUCKS but I don't think so.
I was thinking the same as Texas Hawk but the preseason hype has me wondering a little bit. Should probably stick to initial evaluations but sometimes those look foolish.
@approxinfinity I'd take that minus the helicopter parent. White sure got around.
@jayhawks2010 said in Self talking about the team:
We could easily go 4 guards and Thompson/braun could play back up pg and tgf, wilson, and Tristian will get quality mins from a 4 guard lineup.
That sounds awful from a ball handling perspective.

Update on the 2021 cycle.
9 of the top 20 remain uncommitted. I didn't include Michael Foster who'll very likely go pro.
10 remain open from #21-50
6 remain open from #51-100
6 remain open from #101-125 (#125 being the last 4 start ranked).
Hunter Salis remains the top ranked prospect that KU was/is still recruiting. However there's no expectation he ends up at KU.
Daron Holmes at #39 I guess would be next. No idea if the staff is active with Mac Etienne #44 or Trey Alexander #62
138 Sam Ayomide looks set for Memphis.
Roster is young, I think Self can afford to hit the transfer market hard in the spring for something he may need. It seems unlikely this cycle is going to be anything great.
Might only need a grad transfer guard, we will see.
Imo KU isn't adding anyone mentioned here. Sallis to UK, Holmes to well not KU, not really after Alexander and yeah Ayomide to Memphis but we have enough project big guys already.
@FarmerJayhawk NGL I'd be very happy with that. We'd almost be log jammed at bigs if Dave also stayed. Good problem to have lol.
@Crimsonorblue22 Yes

@nwhawkfan what's wrong w/Chris Jones? Again?
Groin injury. We need him healthy for games that matter.
Linebackers are the biggest issue. DBs have held their own w/o Breeland.
And let them right back in it.
GREAT DRIVE.

Lots of KU connections here.
Losing to the Patriots practice squad. Unreal.
@Kcmatt7 said in Self talking about the team:
Someone is not going get the minutes they want.
TGF, Enaruna or Wilson.
I just donβt see a way you play all of them. Braun played so well last year heβs going to get minutes. Thompson is supposed to be our ringer. Ochai is Ochai. Garrett is Garrett.
So one of those three is likely to have a few DNPs
Completely agree. Regardless of what we think Ochai is locked in as a starter with Garrett and Dave.
Thompson and Braun both play.
Harris by virtue of actually being a guard will get some run.
That's already 6 and we can bank on Mitch playing some and hopefully Silvio depending on the situation.
Absolute best case is 9 are in the regular rotation. Which means one of Mitch and Silvio gets lean minutes (prob Silvio) and one of the trio you mentioned is on the outside looking in. Ngl I thought it was going to be Jalen but it's not sounding like that anymore. I could easily see the one it ends up being transferring out.
http://www2.kusports.com/news/2020/oct/05/new-look-jalen-wilson-one-few-early-standouts-kans/ β
The Jalen hype train is full steam ahead it seems.
Who did we lose to Memphis? We already have two bigs signed and a developmental center on the roster in Muscadin so it's hard to consider Ayomide a miss. He is not an impact player and might not even play much at Memphis next year, but I don't know their roster that well.
Kentucky will always out recruit KU with Cal and Nike. It's just how it is. They wanted Nolan Hickman so they took him. It sucks. They will get Hunter Sallis as well.

When you have a School such as Ku and the tradition , the fans the program , a hall of fame College Coach the 2nd winningest program in the history of College Basketball , the National exposure they get when playing at KU on National TV - -just doesn't add up. , Playing for a program that has been in the top 25 for how many consecitive weeks? - -you trying to tell me these kids don't look at things like that? - Players who want to play against top competition - -that's all right here. Sure the Duke's - -The UK - -i get that who can match them on a constant basis ? -- really no one , but other then that - your not selling me that other programs can offer a recruit better.
Only money matters.
@approxinfinity said in Self talking about the team:
@Texas-Hawk-10 the biggest question to me is "how good of a 3pt shooting team will we be?" The charity stripe won't be nearly the adventure it was with Doke on the floor. However, with Marcus on ball, unless he got a lot sharper from 3, the D can sag off and help. Yes, we will be good driving the ball, but good defenses can probably stifle our scoring, and since 3>2, with a bad tourney draw, could still amount to an early exit.
Last year KU was actually an average or even slightly above average shooting team. Of course we would like to see improvement, but I found that interesting looking at the numbers. It wasn't that bad.
It felt bad though, for sure.
@Kcmatt7 The nice thing about this site is that it's fairly well hidden (I heard about it from a friend) but it must come up on some searches.
Kendall Brown is the only recruit this cycle I would say KU really lost to the situation and he was immediately replaced. It does suck but I don't think it changed/changes anything with JD Davison, Hunter Sallis (Kentucky btw), Nolan Hickman etc... Never really have been able to go up against UK much in recruiting and win. Then even when it does happen it tends to backfire on KU, it's really remarkable tbh.
I hope you find the validation you are looking for in your life.

I think with the disaster of an offseason this has been I would expect Dave is more or less the player we saw last yr. There are things with him that I think will always be lacking. Hopefully now that he is the guy that has to lead that it brings out the best in him. Unfortunately I expect the frontcourt to be the weakest part of the team and that's not throwing shade but recognizing how good Doke was and how far the drop is to what returned
I think it's possible that we don't see any big with 25+ minutes a game. It's the last hurrah for Mitch and Silvio.
Udoka was incredible.
@Crimsonorblue22 Correct
@Crimsonorblue22 Coach talk imo. Remember Dedric was the best passer Self has ever had and Q was as good of a guard as Self has ever had. Different guys are handled differently and Bryce has a great attitude and work ethic.
Interesting to note Bill listed Jalen as one of the three shooters on the team that he "trusts". Maybe he plays more than we thought.
Do I want Trump to die from this? No. I could see the last part of my post being read that way and in hindsight it might not be the best word choice I just meant it would be typical if he had mild symptoms.
I also won't be sad if he does. :man_shrugging:
Yeah I just found out an older friend and his wife contracted COVID so pardon me if I laugh my ass off that Trump finally got it. Well deserved.
Of course knowing 2020 he's going to have no symptoms and in 2.5 weeks he's going to say Coronavirus is for pussies despite the fact that he's an elderly obese man.
@Kcmatt7 said in Baltimore Beat Down:
Lamar is a talent. But he's not Mahomes. I don't know how anyone who watches the actual games can think otherwise.
I think Lamar will have an issue winning the big one because he can't throw the ball. If I was Baltimore, I'd be drafting nothing but OL and defensive players if I was sticking with him. With Lamar the only way they are winning is old school. Elite running game and an elite defense. He's just not an elite passer and you can show me stats but my eyes tell me something different.
I want to see Lamar come from behind. Ravens have major frontrunner vibes to me. Cian Fahey did an article that I'm obviously not going to pay for but he shared some numbers that would have you believe Lamar is somehow a better passer. Sometimes advanced stats can be VERY misleading. If you simply watch Pat throw and watch Lamar throw it's not close. Did Andrews for Balti drop some? Yes but Lamar was still off on several throws.
All this said Lamar is a good QB as a total package, obviously. He's 21-4 in the regular season and a very good threat running the ball.
One area where Pat is a lot better than Lamar that might not be apparent to everyone is pre-snap reads. Mahomes is actually insane pre-snap.
@Crimsonorblue22 Andy is in the conversation for best offensive playcaller all time. Definitely some bag plays last night... The Sherman TD, the Fisher TD etc...
JD Davison done to Bama.
@approxinfinity said in Baltimore Beat Down:
What a show. I can't believe Lamar Jackson was held to 100 passing yards and one td.
Under 100 is insane but last year Lamar had 6 games under 200. Of course his rushing yards are a big part of his total yardage.
The absolute Mahomes slander lately is unreal. Can't imagine watching football and thinking Lamar is better.
Unless you think it will ruin Daniels by continuing to play him I like doing to to get him experience.

That was a brutal drop. Jalon made a good enough pass there.
Damn.
Jalon Daniels szzzznnnnnn.
I don't know but it sounds like KU isn't very interested either and Arky is the favorite.
Word is Oklahoma quit recruiting him. Okie State too but he really would prefer OU thus leaving them on the list.
@FarmerJayhawk I would be stunned by either. Davison stays in the South or does g league.

Pretty much this.
@Crimsonorblue22 I had to get rid of the last dog I had. Ignored her in favor of the cats and found out I'm really just not a dog person. It was the right thing to do I think, found her a good home.
@Crimsonorblue22 schedule is kinda wonky
Starts a week from today if anyone was wondering.
@BeddieKU23 Gershon to the Timberwolves was the most recent one. Basically no one left at 247 besides BSnow, lol.
Offensive line got completely worked. Didn't call holds when the Chargers were grabbing Jones and Clark.
Best kicker in the league.
