Good effort, good passing, ends with missed threes both times unfortunately.

No Ochai and Dedric is scary as hell

Definitely our two best players, so this TCU run makes a lot of sense.

Wouldn't be the worst thing if Danny ended up back on the staff after this year.

Agree, he will be good in time. Starter material by JR year imo.

Dave still refuses to pass

He has a very long way to go but being forced into minutes could help down the road. That's the hope anyway.

I have no issue with KJ most of the time. He has his weaknesses as we have all seen. I haven't seen anything saying so but I'd like to know whether he is on track to graduate this yr given it's his 4th yr in College. That could factor into his own decision if his brother does leave. We saw how the Morris twins left together. The Martin twins at Nevada stayed even though one would probably be drafted but the other wouldn't. So theres a history of brothers sticking together and either staying or going as a package. I only gave a few examples but I think its difficult for those who are used to spending every day together and then bam one goes off on their own. Usually doesnt happen from what I've seen. Do we even land Dedric if we didnt take KJ?

Well said. I'd be fine w/ KJ on the team next year but it feels unlikely.

OH No Huggy • Feb 12, 2019 02:22 AM

Thought I posted in this thread but I guess it didn't go through.

First huge down year for Huggy there since 12-13. I expect their program will recover again.

Self had him play a lot of pt at USA games and he did pretty good but he just took everyone to the hole.

Yeah, he can't pull that off at the B12 level.

Agbaji/Next Year's Team • Feb 11, 2019 08:06 PM

@BeddieKU23 He's never playing the point at KU. But that was true of everywhere on his final list even Marquette with the assumption that he would be OAD. Now year 2 maybe Marquette lets him play PG. Certainly never happening at KU w/ Dotson here. Even Garrett is a better PG at this level.

I like Grimes overall still and think if he sticks around he can be a good contributor but if he wants to play PG he will have to transfer or play in a very low level pro league. He's just...not fast enough.

Agbaji/Next Year's Team • Feb 11, 2019 08:01 PM

@BeddieKU23 Based on what we have seen many times from NBA gms...I am inclined to agree.

Braun • Feb 11, 2019 07:59 PM

@BeddieKU23 Agree. He has weight/muscle to put on just so he won't be banged around by the tougher guards at the B12 level. That's his biggest area for improvement and on the bright side it's something that is easier to work on then say if he lacked basketball skills.

Agbaji/Next Year's Team • Feb 11, 2019 07:58 PM

@BShark

Where's Grimes going? Australia? Bosnia? China?

It won't be the states professionally

Ryan seems to think Grimes is draftable on the premise that some NBA GMs are mouth breathing troglodytes*.

*What he really said was that some guys will draft on pedigree, especially in the 2nd round. Assume it was just a bad situation in college and that their organization can get more out of the player.

Braun • Feb 11, 2019 07:56 PM

@BeddieKU23 Well Mitch is a C and lacks ball skills. I think Braun could certainly work as a small ball 4 if he gains a couple inches.

Braun • Feb 11, 2019 07:15 PM

@BeddieKU23 I suck at comparisons. It also really depends on where his height ends up. If he is 6'5'' he is a pure wing, if he gets to 6'7-8'' he could end up as a 4 that could play inside and out.

As things currently stand he reminds me somewhat of Tyrel Reed pre-injury. More ball skills though.

Agbaji/Next Year's Team • Feb 11, 2019 07:11 PM

So more about next year in general but Ryan posted on the phog that...

Dedric is gone

Silvio is gone unless there is a miracle where he gets to play next year in which case he would stay.

Doke's people will likely want him to start getting pro checks but his gut says Self finds a way to keep Doke for his SR year.

Grimes GONE.

Dotson and Agbaji staying.

KJ staying but says this one is just a guess, no info unlike the others.

Chuck likely gone.

Mitch and McCormack 100% staying, locked into the program.

NBAdraft.net is crap. DraftExpress doesn’t have him in their top 60 for 2020. He might surprise me, but I don’t think he’ll even test until 2020.

I hope this is the case. If we get to see the Dotson Agbaji duo as JRs, that could easily be one of Self's best teams at KU. Of course depending on how other things shake out.

He can make 3's so he will play next yr. Probably a small role as a freshman but at least he will be a guy that can stretch the floor for this team. Him and McBride make buckets

Shooters are mildly important as we are finding out.

@BShark so where should my expectations be, good as a Jr? I’m trying to keep them low. I don’t need another Grimes on my hands lol.

So let's bear in mind my own recent record here

Correct with initial (so, when they announced for KU and I watched HS/college games) assessment recent-ish players: Moore, KJ, Graham, Mason, Dotson, McCormack, Cunliffe, Dedric

Medium whiffs: Grimes (I was more down than some on him, but still thought he'd be better than this), Mitch, Lucas, Agbaji

Whiffed hard: Bragg (thought this kid would be great for us), Diallo

So, I'm right and wrong like anyone else I suppose.

I've seen Braun a couple times. He's a better athlete than many would probably think though if we keep seeing clips like that online, the secret will be out. Decent ball skills when you assume he will be a wing at the KU level. I wouldn't think he will contribute too much next year at KU but I said the same of Agbaji. Braun needs to get stronger but he can definitely be a solid player for KU after a year of hitting the weight room.

Agbaji/Next Year's Team • Feb 10, 2019 04:49 PM

The paradigm has changed. No way he is here 4 years now. Being projected as a lotto pick in the 2020 draft. A very pleasant surprise. Too bad jb isn't here to enjoy our sub 75 ranked nova type guy.

My take away from this game against OSU is that Meeotch gets up and plays above the rim more than DLaw. I have yet to see DLaw dunk with authority.

Mitch is a much better athlete than Dedric. Mitch unfortunately is 6'7'' and doesn't have freakish length.
