@drgnslayr right or wrong it seems like Bill is rolling with what we’ve got. I’m comfortable with what they’ve got based on the flashes we saw from Udeh and Zuby before his injury.

The TTU guy is not worth kicking Zuby or Udeh off the roster at all.

Maybe someone else hits the portal that’s worth it. But it ain’t him.

UNLIKE Calipari, Bill has ADAPTED. You simply do not need a back to the basket big in today's game. In fact it's very inefficient basketball.

That said...you'll like Harrison Ingram. I've watched a lot of his tape and seen him back down college players all the way from the three point line for lay-ups. He's not a true big and will play the 4 but he has that kind of craftiness to his game and is effective around the rim.

Bill really said we'd have to change to a zone to play Zach. I am HOWLING. PHOF!

@kjayhawks Took him a little bit to get comfortable with Bill's system imo

2023 Transfer Portal • Mar 22, 2023 10:50 PM

I don't think anyone will be too disappointed by anyone leaving. Maybe ONE guy, and he is the one that had a choice to come back. I wish them all the best at their next stop.

2023 Transfer Portal • Mar 22, 2023 10:49 PM

@kjayhawks whispers it's always been this way, but the old transfer portal rules meant more loyalty from both sides. It's purely year to year now.

Still believe one guy not in the portal is a done deal and would have a hard time believing we find three better guys but you never truly can say for sure until guys announce.

@BShark They clearly needed one this year. I don't think it is nearly as much of a need next year.

Next year the young guys should be a lot more ready.

Cuffe, Clemence, mj, one of Joe or Bobby

We gonna lose that 1 scholarship and still have room for 2 solid transfers with Marcus Adams reclassifying to 2023 otherwise we’d had room for 3 (someone confirm my math)

If we have 5 out we can take 3 in.

Juan/KJ/Zuby/Udeh/one of Bob or Joe/4 FR is 9.

@FarmerJayhawk said in Welcome, Marcus Adams Jr.!:

I have modest expectations here. It'll be a HUGE jump in competition and freshmen usually have a tough adjustment, especially now. No knock on Adams, it's the 23 class in general.

Yeah I think he can contribute next year. Not starting but as a solid bench piece.

I think Elmarko will start barring something crazy.

The other two guys are definitely development pieces. I think some people will be in for a surprise there with CJ because of his ranking.

Troubling to see Harris under 60%. He doesn't look like a confident shooter at the line. Something he will have to address this offseason

What's weird is that he was around 80% his first two years. Not sure what caused his dip in %.

Not sure how much it would impact him in regards to the FT line but he has been really banged up this year.

Assistant Coach Roberts was... "soft" • Mar 20, 2023 05:49 PM

@BigBad said in Assistant Coach Roberts was... "soft":

Every time a team loses in the tournament its:

The coach sucked - didnt adjust, didnt call timeout etc.
The players are not athletic enough.

The funny thing is, it always and I mean always comes down to making shots. The collective tournament has a 3 point % of 30. It's not coaching or athleticism, its shot making.

Agree.

Part of the sting is that was one of KU's better offensive games. Possibly the best one of the losses this year.

2023 Transfer Portal • Mar 20, 2023 05:24 PM

Don't know if we'd be interested in anyone but most Providence players and recruits will end up available with Cooley moving to Georgetown.

Usually is every year for Self teams

I mean worse than normal lol. Usually we are around 71-72% as a team.

We have had some odd cases over the years though. 2020 was a very good team but 67% from the line which was below the top 300. 2017 was a top 6 team from 3 point range but 68% from the line. Two of the worst FT shooting teams in the Self era.

Spoiled • Mar 20, 2023 12:38 PM

@dylans said in Spoiled:

This wasn’t even a bad loss. No head coach, no bench, short on top end talent. They over achieved in the regular season, because of the coach. Bill is amazing and we are extremely lucky to have him. The Robert’s intern coaching job just goes to illustrate how darn good Bill is.

Note: The worst tournament losses thread was not bumped.

Bill definitely overachieved with this roster in the regular season. Getting a 1 seed with 3 or 4 seed talent. Should have been coach of the year.

2023 Transfer Portal • Mar 20, 2023 11:39 AM

@wissox said in 2023 Transfer Portal:

I hate the portal. This idiocy has to stop. Make kids have to sit a year. It never made sense to me why they changed the rules. It's ruining basketball and it's going to cause coaches to leave. Not to sound like an arrogant blue blood fan, but why would a kid get a coveted schollie to KU and then leave?

It's benefiting KU greatly. Next year would be guaranteed to be unpleasant with the old portal rules.

The whole thing is a business and always has been. Contracts are year to year. KU definitely chose to not renew some contracts this year. Guys that should have been asked to leave after last season IMO, which we felt this year with the lack of a bench.

@AsadZ Agree.

Some players do come for the school but that is much rarer. It's typically about the coach in addition to $.

Can’t expect someone to go from under 200 minutes played + planted in the dog house to respectable starter.
Playing KJ next to Udeh is asking to not score ever.

The very definition of irony perhaps...since KJ played 178 mins last year and became a reliable starter? (Wasn't in a dog house, though, so I guess we can cut you a little slack!)

Doghouse part is definitely key. Advanced stats were good for KJ last year despite limited minutes. Plus Bill trusted him to close out the title game.
