A few thoughts on the game. The loss of Kelce was very costly since it took the middle game away and the Titans could concentrate on the run and long ball. While on the subject, wasn’t the hit on Kelce the text book definition of spearing?

Why wasn’t the Mariotta fumble not a fumble?

Wasn’t Mariotta past the line of scrimmage when he threw the pass that came back to him?

Yeah, helmet to helmet hit. Nasty stuff.

Ref called it wrong. Should have been a fumble.

No.

In a different thread I had brought up for discussion possibility of Mitch red shirting next year. Looking at next year's roster and assuming Dok is back, simply going by talent level Mitch will be our 4th or 5th Big after Dok, Lawson brothers, Silvio. With this in mind and considering our deep guard situation it is safe to assume that Self will play 4 guard line up majority of times. Barring any unforeseen situation and/or injury one can assume that Mitch will not be getting more than 10 minutes a game.

Mitch is a great kid. He plays with tremendous energy and passion. But he is not very big, even Self said it after the game last night. This year Self has no choice but to play Mitch. The situation will be different next year. If his minutes will be limited why not take the opportunity and improve your game and becoming bigger and stronger and provide greater contribution to the team in years 3 and 4. We have seen this formula work with other players - Releford, Lucas, Morningstar, Traylor as an example.

Traylor had to redshirt due to academics. Just like BMac.

Anyway as I also mentioned in the previous thread we are very much on the same page here regarding Mitch.

I do think though that especially if Doke comes back we see a lot more 3/2 again. Though it will be very flexible since KJ and Dedric are very skilled 4s. KJ even played the 3 spot at Memphis.

Hopefully eligible for the ISU game.

Yep you Hawks are right. • Jan 07, 2018 04:36 PM

@Fightsongwriter Probably pretty close. Doke fouled out late enough to where Mitch was able to finish the game but had he needed a breather I believe Sosinski was next in line.

His name is Mitch. • Jan 07, 2018 04:35 PM

Do you think Mitch has the foot speed for short periods at the 3-spot?

No. But he will be totally fine at the 4.

@Kubie I don't think we have to worry about Mitch toughing it out or not. He is all KU, and that's why we love him.

It was a tale of two halves for mitch. He played great when it mattered. He finally stepped up in the moment when his team needed him with Doke on the bench. Game mvp. Sometimes a game like that can really turn the corner for someone who is playing spot minutes and struggling with consistentcy

Exactly. It was a miracle and thank goodness it happened because it was required. What was Self going to do? Play a walk-on?

Obviously the awesomeness is not for Chiefs fans. Ugh

I don't think anything will ever change with the Chiefs. Forever a loser franchise.

Remember @Jayballer54 we had more than 2 studs from LA committed but when other schools came calling we only held on to two and we also lost stud QB Clayton Tune. That said considering our record and that we have a lame duck head coach I'd say the early part of the class did quite well.

Also, other schools were still interested in Harris. He got offers and I think took a visit to another school while committed to KU . Football recruiting is funny like that. For whatever reason he stuck it out so he is a solid recruiting win.

I'm not sure KU will ever get to the point where we are big boy recruiting in football. And that's OKAY, it's probably for the best in fact.

Missouri and KState too.

@Jayballer54 Happens the other way too. Kids in basketball claim a KU offer when KU would not accept their commitment...

@BShark We have issues. We also have help coming in at some point. I think we have a real chance to be 10-3 in conference going into our 3 game monty beginning Feb. 17th where we play WVU and OU at home, and then we play at TT. If either one of our guys clears, I think we're looking at number 14 in a row. It's not going to be easy, but we aren't going to be a skeleton crew the whole year.

If KU starts 10-3 I will call it a Bill Self miracle. I would expect Silvio to be cleared to play soon.

@BShark that and fts was why it was even a contested game. We suck on the glass and it gets really bad when Doke on the bench. Mitch is like Mari was as a high percentage offense rebounder but don’t box out.

Yeah it's tough for Mitch to play center, he has a combo forward type body.

Self’s best team at KU • Jan 07, 2018 05:01 AM

Also mentioned Newman and Vick need to play better. Smart guy.

Self’s best team at KU • Jan 07, 2018 05:00 AM

Self in post game: "We don't rebound the ball worth a crap".

Quite accurate.

@BShark I'm going to smack you for saying that. Bite your tongue, Debbie Downer..lol.

LOL.

Honestly though I'm not sure I'd feel confident about this KU team smoking any decent P5 team. Mainly because of the rebounding thing.

I loved how they DROVE IT HARD. They didn't settle for the deep 3.

Did this against Tech too, at least in the 2nd half. Now if they can get the rebounding thing figured out...

@KirkIsMyHinrich Lol. They always play us tough.

Grimes 23/9/9.

Graham did a great job being a PG tonight.

Self’s best team at KU • Jan 07, 2018 04:45 AM

Nah. It's true I won't be surprised. This team can lose to or beat any other team in this league I think. Lard for ISU is very good! Jackson too.

Self’s best team at KU • Jan 07, 2018 04:44 AM

@KirkIsMyHinrich Somehow I won't be surprised if we somehow lose to 0-3 in league ISU on Tuesday.

This is a blowout if we can rebound.

Rebounding is still a huge issue though. TCU currently has more offensive rebounds than KU has defensive rebounds. KU is -14 on the glass right now for the game.

Yep. Rebounding might cost KU two games in a row.

Pathetic play calling second half -- second half of game looked like middle half of season. Dumb penalties, too. Over and out.

Yeah, where was Kareem Hunt?

mayjay said:

@BShark I believe the SEC got rid of pulled offers (grayshirt offers?). So the OleMiss offer probably could have been accepted at least. But I might not be talking about what you are implying.

Players report offers they don't have all the time.

Football offers are funny things. I doubt he could have actually committed to most of those schools if he picked KU.
