If Duke ends up having to play walk-ons I won't complain I guess.....
Bad call alert
Buckets Bragg
FLOPPPPPPIN
There is another universe where Bolden and Tatum are Hawks. Too bad really.
Good grief.....

When Dick gave Nick a standing O at the Texas game, he was ok in my book.
If he had a more normal voice, I think I'd be more okay with him.
@wissox said:
Some of you will be happy there's no Dicky V for our game. I don't care that much.
His voice just grates on me after awhile. I usually mute the tv and turn on the radio during Dukie V games. That will not quite be the same without Bob though!

Although I dislike Grayson more than I dislike Kentucky, but less than I dislike Cal.
Complex!
@dynomitehawk said:
Even if we start 0-2, these experiences will make us ready for March. This team is gonna be good. Look for Carlton to have a big night.
Amen.

I dislike Duke less than I dislike Kentucky and Missouri.
I can get behind this as well. Duke fans that actually went to Duke are usually decent. UK and Missouri are trash.
@BeddieKU23 said:
Good point they played together so they have familiarity.
The KU eligibility center going to be working some extra hours this spring lol
Gonna need more employees.
@BeddieKU23 said:
I know he visited for Late Night but it wouldn't hurt to get him on campus for a home game. When we get kids to games during the season that has seemed to be work alright
The game atmosphere definitely helps.
He is close with Preston fwiw.

Such an odd recruitment. If Coleman doesn't go to Duke not really sure this is a contest
Agree. Never know about recruiting in general but this is an EXTRA weird one. As of now Duke isn't even actually recruiting him according to Duke people. Which makes sense, they don't need to take the risk and Jackson may not be OAD.
Ha. I think this may be final though. He made it clear UA isn't going to push him that's for sure...
Edit: UA being Under Armor not University of Arizona.
Remove these chuckleheads from my screen already please.
Duke, Baylor, Zona, Seton Hall and....Kansas.
I just want the rest of this game to go by quickly. Stop fouling and stuff.
Bridges is the only player for MSU that belongs on the floor with the UK players. And it's not like he has been great tonight, since it's hard 1 on 5.
Kentucky is scary defensively.

This UK, MSU game is boring as hell, KSU was down 11-2 to Omaha a little bit ago.
They were struggling against some patsy in their first game too before they pulled away. Sneed and Wade are good, but that's about it.
So of course other players are leading the way for them today. Honestly Brown isn't a bad guard, but not particularly great.

@BShark Yes I do i thought he was primed at the end of his So. year to be great but it didnt end that way, still love Mari tho,
+1. Gotta love Mari, even if I felt Diallo should have played over him last year.

Final prediction. Stone cold lead pipe lock. Duke 88, Kansas 83
You predict we....lose? Seriously?
I mean...it sucks but I think it is what happens. Should go on a nice winning streak after though.
@wissox said:
@BShark Looks like it was a foul fest too, wasn't it?
These early games often are because RULES EMPHASIS until the refs ease back into their old ways before conference season.
Mute your tv fam.
@wissox said:
I don't want the facts to ruin a good narrative but look at the FT's attempted and fouls called the last time we played Duke.

Well if that happens again Duke gets rolled since they basically have 6 guys atm.......
Everyone remember that time Jamari destroyed Baylor's zone?
@kjayhawks said:
@jayballer54 Baylors size and shot blocking will bother us when we play but they still have Scott Drew so i like our chances
Might be more of a factor if they played man d. Traditionally, Self has the team ready to carve that deliciously soft and tender turke...zone.

Baylor does look good, but I think it is more of Oregon being subpar right now, especially without Brooks. Oregon is 3/21 from three - they might struggle shooting the ball this year. Can't really take much from these early games. And besides, it is never an indicator of how far teams will go in March. In '11 - '12 season, we lost to UK and Duke in the non-con and got what some would call an asterisk win over Ohio State without Sullinger in Lawrence, yet went to the title game. It's a long season.
Agree. At the end of the day, Drew gonna Drew/Baylor gonna Baylor.
I will never fear Baylor as long as Drew is there but this is a nice win for them.

ESPN headline right now : How did college basketball become Duke, Kentucky and everybody else?
Barrrrrrrrrfffffff
@HawkChamp said:
@BShark It really is quite remarkable. Indiana shot 50% on 15 made threes, we made seven and shot 33%; they outrebounded us by 11, and Landon, Carlton, Josh and Devonte did not do much, yet we were still in a position to win.
Yep. Gives me hope going forward.

I think the outcome of this game will be determined in great part by how the game is called.;quick whistles to key players could determine which team's starting players stay in longer. Logic would indicate that this type of scenario would favor KU since key Duke players will not be playing anyway; however, when is the last time refs did not favor Duke? In a close game, the refs will find a way to help Duke win; the only way to neutralize them is to keep a 20 point lead through out the game to prevent end of game shenanigans.
The refs are going to be swallowing their whistle so much that the NCAA hired some EMTs to be at the game to perform the Heimlich as needed.

I don't really care much for predicting the score as much as I would like to see our big guys and wings work their butts off for defensive rebounds. That means playing smart, like not standing under the goal. These guys are physically and mentally capable of putting their body on someone and pushing them out - that is pretty simple folks and requires no basketball talent to do.
+1
I'm just shooting the shit on the predicto.
Like you, I really just want to see the team look better on the glass, and moving the ball on offense. Even if it's a loss, as long as the quality of basketball improves for KU I will be happy. Remarkable that KU was in the game against Indiana tbqh.
Acuil isn't a frosh though. He's a JUCO that had to sit out last year for medical reasons. He is 22 years old and only has one year remaining after this.
Bit sloppy, but that's to be expected especially without their catalyst offensively.
The league needs this win. Go Bears!
Final prediction. Stone cold lead pipe lock. Duke 88, Kansas 83
Yep, nice 3-4 year kid (Wooten).
Grimes said awhile back that KU was the school that stood out the most to him. Mentioned that Self and other assistants had been to see him multiple times and that KU is a school he always liked. Said it to a UK reporter so that was kind of wild really. So I'd say there is definitely genuine interest but it's recruiting and things change of course.
Langford feels like Duke/UK to me.
KU is in a great position for the 2019 class but it's so early. Of course, KU was in a great position with Ayton so it's hard to count the chickens before they hatch. UCLA is already making a play for Sherfield. There are rumours that Robinson is a silent commit (to KU of course). I'd love to see the staff lock up Harvey early, just get that done. Leech and Hurt will be battles, but battles KU CAN win.
Duval is definitely legit. I don't think KU really chases him if they could have snagged Sexton or Young but with the situation the way it is, I think it's an option that could be great for both sides.
I do see Newman for sure being gone after next year. It can be tough to get talent but also 3+ year players. Wooten, like Garrett, would be a good get in this regard. It will be interesting to see where KU is at after the dust settles on this class.
It could be that 2018 also needs to be a big class and I can't tell if KU is leading for anyone besides Grimes (could easily change), Dotson (would go to UNC or Duke if he could) and Oturu (lock this kid down now Bill).
On the bright side, Jacobs seems like an absolute steal to have locked down already.
Yeah it's far from ideal, but when you swing and miss a few times this can be where you end up if you still want top talent. Rumour is Duval will suit up for whoever gives him the most coin. He will likely qualify, but may end up overseas anyway for the aforementioned reason.
To add, Preston much more of a qualification risk than Duval. We are talking about a kid that spent a lot of time at Prime Prep/API and in addition to the transcript issues also has poor grades in general.
@BeddieKU23 said:
Saw that Wooten is likely an early enroll player because he's ineligible to play HS ball this year. Could bode well for KU seems how they just happen to have an extra scholarship hanging around
Self has made Wooten a priority from what I have read. I think there is a very real chance that he visits KU and then it's over.
Garrett/Wooten/Preston/Duval/mystery guard would be a damn fine class. Provided Preston actually makes it to campus of course.
Predicting another L, then a crootin W, then a nice on the court winning streak after that.
KU = get em eligible U.
My 02. It's LESS than ideal that Lucas is starting at KU. Ideally, he is a career bench player. HOWEVER, at this point, it can't be helped. So let's hope he heals up, because Doke isn't starting.
They can easily win even if those three don't play. They STILL have a better post rotation and I am not joking.
I'm thinking Grayson Allen could kill a player on the court and not get a foul.
Frank was easily the biggest positive takeaway from the IU loss. The stuff like rebounding and D can HOPEFULLY be fixed but the fact that Frank is a reliable go to guy at this point is huge.
