Yup been up since 4am eastern time. Took tomm off.
The Player Efficiency Rating (PER) is a per-minute rating developed by ESPN.com columnist John Hollinger. In John's words, "The PER sums up all a player's positive accomplishments, subtracts the negative accomplishments, and returns a per-minute rating of a player's performance
As the PER largely measures offensive performance -while the calculation seems pretty complex-, it has also limitations on the defensive side. Its creator, Hollinger freely admits that two of the defensive statistics it incorporates blocks and steals can produce a distorted picture of a player’s value and that PER is not a reliable measure of a player’s defensive acumen.
There's a bunch that goes into the calculation but it certainly appears Bigs can have much higher numbers then guards can sustain
boards, bigs also tend to shoot more 2's etc which lead to higher FG % on their usage etc. Dave's PER is actually lower then last year but obviously we wouldn't change a thing
Yup they also got the Georgetown transfer big that was supposed to be their best player but he ended up not qualifying for them, odd situation and now has been at Iowa St half a semester. So far it appears to be two quality additions for them. If Hunter sticks around they got pieces
With PER's its easier for Big's to have higher numbers. But agree stats go out the door with this game. It's mano vs mano and hopefully our dudes are better then theirs
Fuel to the fire my friend.
Hopefully he is in position to make plays. Manek loves to camp on the perimeter but if there is a lot of long misses you can bet every dollar you own he's going to get them. We haven't had a kid board like this since T-Rob
Bacot is going to play as much as he can.
I think its Love that we have to try and neutralize. He had a bad game against Baylor, even fouling out. If he's guarding Och I say Och should be aggressive early baiting him to foul.
Or as a team we can just make everything again it will be a mute point.
It's a good thing he's a non factor outside 8 feet from the basket as well.
You can see why their starting 5 has been successful in the tournament. 3 guys make a high volume of 3's then they have Bacot to do all the dirty work inside. They barely use their bench and they seem to have great chemistry together.
On a for reals level, Caleb Love seems like the key individual matchup. That guy has single-handily won the UCLA and Duke games with his big-shot making ability. Harris will probably guard Davis for a majority of this game so it comes down to the Och/CB combo to slow him down. Love can be a very streaky shooter but he's shown unbelievable confidence in his shot all tournament long. Manek, Bacot, Davis all big time players playing their best ball. When they have needed "that shot" though its been Love. He's put up 50 3's in the tourney and made 18 (36%).
As far as team matchup, rebounding is the biggest key. Bacot has been a monster on the boards all season long averaging 16.8 in the tournament which is an insane number. Control the glass and this game will be a lot easier
Iowa St has landed Temple transfer guard Jeremiah Williams. The 6'5 guard from Chicago averaged 9.5 ppg and 4.2 ast per game. Not much of a shooter at this stage but appears to have plenty of size to distribute the ball.
Word was when he left Wichy that he wasn't coachable. Wouldn't seem to be a recipe for success with Huggy
Yup but the distraction of work is doing exactly what I need it to do.
Updated going into the Championship Game. Let's bring it HOME!!
Ochai sits in #15th place all-time & would need a Wilt Chamberlain performance to get to #14th at this point. Incredible career regardless.
David sits in #45 place with a chance to move up 1 or 2 spots with another monster game.
Braun cracked 1,000 points
Remy needs 1 point tonight for 2,000.
